Summary with no meat.......2006-08-06
The book is simply a summary outline of the material for the CFP test, which can easily be obtained on the Board's website. Without sufficient detail, I can not imagine how it could be helpful.

You get what you pay for..........2006-03-19
Just took the CFP exam yesterday. I'm a quick study, have been in the industry a while, am a CLU/ChFC, so I hoped I could find a condensed study guide that would serve to refresh my memory and allow me to skate through. I'm CHEAP too, so I was hoping I could save some $$$ by not enrolling in a review course.
Fortunate for me, a buddy that passed the exam last year and paid $1,200 for a BISYS review course heard I was taking the test and loaned me HIS books (all 2500 pages) as a supplement to this study guide. Those materials SAVED MY HIDE!!! I would have failed if I relied on this book. The tax data is all outdated and critical to the exam. Even if it were updated, there is still a HUGE amount of material missing that you need to know. Didn't even work for me as an outline. This is a hard test, so don't fool yourself like I did.
Great book!.......2006-03-10
I'm finding this book very useful and i'm happy that it was available at a much cheaper price. Thanks.
Please Don't Waste Your Money Like I Did !!!!!!!.......2005-10-25
I recently spent a bunch of money to take one of the several well established review courses. I purchased this book since it was relatively inexpensive and I thought I would check out the materials as a portable outline.
The book has not been updated since 2003. So much of the material is outdated!! Big problem!!! Need I say more!
Further, Amazon doesn't have a worthy return policy since I purchased this. I might change my review if the price were $5 because it isn't worth anymore.

Overly brief.......2005-08-06
This book is too brief to be helpful. It is mainly an outline, with not much more detail than the CFP exam topics list. It doesn't serve as a very helpful reference resource because the Table of Contents is too simplistic, and has a very minimal index.
Product Description
This book focuses on the way to structure a practice to ensure financial planners are concentrating on their clients' needs. A specialist in financial life planning, Diliberto challenges the notion of asset centered financial planning in favor of the client centered approach. He uses stories, personal examples, and wisdom from his career to discuss how to plan holistically, asking the questions who is your client and what are their personal goals and needs? Not focused solely on the relationship with the client, Diliberto shines a bright light on the practice itself. He examines how a firm is structured, who is part of the financial planning team, compensation, and effective and reasonable marketing for the financial planning firm.
Product Description
The leading edge of the baby boomer wave will pass through age 60 this year. Retirement looms large for them and the 20-year generation that follows. Although many in the generation have saved to supplement their retirement, they will probably live longer in retirement than any previous generation, so they must grapple with questions about how to manage that money and make it last. The purpose of this book is to present the author's groundbreaking research into this topic, presenting new material as well as an update of the original research in a comprehensive, authoritative form.
Customer Reviews:
A must read for anyone thinking about, approaching or in Retirement.......2007-08-16
This is an easy review to write so I'll make it short and sweet.
This book is probably worth more to me that every other book I have ever read on retirement planning (and I have read several dozen). Bill Bengen is a genius in the area of retirement planning and a pioneer in developing models to determine sustainable withdrawal rates. His work is considered by others (financial planners included) as the "gold standard". I cannot say enough about how much I learned from reading his book. It's simply a "must read".
You would be remiss (bordering on negligent) in not adding this tremendous work to your library.
A must read for retirees.......2007-05-08
Every retiree concerned about making their assets last in retirement should read this book. It is ground breaking research that was originally done in the early 90's with all the data brought up to date combined with much new information that supplement and confirm the so called "4% solution". It will give you a clear understanding of withdrawal rates and how they affect the longevity of your invested portfolio based on real historical market data. It also gives good insight into how various investment vehicles impact overall returns and hence the ability to increase your withdrawal rate. It is a pricey book but if you read it carefully, it is more than worth its price and can provide valuable lessons for the remainder of your life. Though not a book about accumulating wealth, it is a very throughly done research about how to spend your wealth in retirement effectively. Very highly recommended.
Great Advice.......2007-01-23
Plenty of good research. Easy to understand. Very helpfull for our retirement planning. A best buy book!

A must-have book for laymen working for practices and groups.......2003-04-19
As a layperson frequently called upon to assist physicians and surgeons in communication and marketing efforts, Dr. Marcinko's savvy book has been invaluable in educating me and advising my work. He is successful in describing and actually bringing to life both the macro and micro of this increasingly vexing enterprise of achieving profit in this pressured sector, where doctors are required not only to wear many professional and societal hats, but also to portray many conflicting roles as expert, helper, compassionate advisor, master technician, astute businessperson, educator, Hyper Time operator, lifelong student and so many others. His mastery of the subject or rather subjects provides an undertone of finiteness and even assurance to a field that is confusing and even exasperating to many in it. More than anything else, Dr. Marcinko illuminates by establishing explicit and useful displined organization to the sprawling and apparently boundless subject of how to stay afloat and persevere in a useful and effective practice. Highly recommended.
deceptive chapter titles.......2002-02-01
The 1st third of the book provided enlightening ideas about starting a medical practice. However, the remainder of the book was disjointed and was not helpful to one considering starting a private practice.
Attention All Medical Colleagues!.......2001-03-10
Dear Medical Colleagues,
This book is a must read for all of us who are practicing in the current managed care environment. It is not important if you are an MD, DO, DDS, DPM, DC, vet or PHD, we are all negatively impacted, and the editor and his contributing writers explain why and what we all can do about it. Although it won't be easy or fast. Medical students will be astounded at the complexity of contemporary practice, as well.
The book is divided into three parts: qualitative, quantitative and the futuristic aspects of healthcare practice. But, I must warn you that if you are an employed doctor, rather than an empolyer physician, you will feel left out since you are a captive agent. At least the independent doctor still has some control left over his or her destiny; for now. Accordingly, Dr. David Edward Marcinko; MBA, CFP, and his team, explain how you can increase your revenues, decrease your expenses and operating assets, to increase your office's Return On Investment (ROI).
In the first section, number crunching, spreadsheets, managerial and cost accounting techniques rule. Normally, somewhat mundane, it is interesting how the author make these numerics "come-alive" when real dollars are attached to the figures.
In the next section on the other hand, the qualitative aspects of medical practice are reviewed. Such topics as negotiation skills, managed care contracting, IT systems, case management and UR are given their due, along with billing, legal, anti-trust, IPA, CPT coding and asset protection issues.
Finally, the authors project their opinions about healthcare in the future; which does not look good for any of us. In fact, I won't reveal their prognosticatons about the standard of fiscal care, medical ethics, or doctors acting like passive lemmings, but they are indeed so chilling that you will just have to read this thought provoking book for yourself.
If you are a doctor, and think you know all about managed care, you will be humbled by this fact filled tome. Not reading this book definately places your practice, profession and living in peril. Do not miss it. This editor is a real doctor and business professional.
Buy it!.......2000-12-07
As both a doctor and an attorney, I work on both sides of the fence. I enjoy relationships, both socially and professionally with clients of both professions. Through these sources, I was referred to Dr. Marcinko's book.
I must say, being savvy is not what it used to be AND Dr. Marcinko has explained that. This author, and his authorities who have written chapters and supplements, take time to teach professions how to become 2000 savvy and actually expand rather than stagnate. The ideas are practical, not hypotheticals as we pose at trial or deposition. For my medical bretheren, the book looks at managed care through the eyes of one of us and exhibits the skills we will need to prosper in a speculative medical amangement environment.
For either profession, the insights are a wonderful addition for providing peace of mind.
HELPING DOCTORS AND NURSES.......2000-10-26
Doctors are Not Business People-They are Physicians
It is well know that doctors and nurses, like many dads and moms, work hard at helping others but are poor business people themselves; especially in the new world of managed care, HMOs, PAs, etc.
Well, this doctor-editor, and his friends from the professions of health-law, medical-accountancy, insurance, securities, management and the investing and financial services leaders from Wall Street, have written a book to help out.
Not only does the first section of this book review medical office practice management tips, but it also teaches physicians how to profit more from their toil. Then, the book relates best practices to invest hard earned money in the sectors of risk management, budgeting, housing, automobiles, college educaton, taxation, investing, retirement and estate planning. URLs and information resources abound, and the CD-ROM is a fabulous guide giving 'real-life' examples for the above topics. Physician and healthcare provider specificity makes this major textbook a 'must read' for all medical professionals.
After all, my mom (a nurse) and my dad (a doctor) say that if doctors and nurses can't make an honest living, they will leave medicine for more lucrative jobs, and then who will help us when we are sick?

Through the years I have visited the financial section of book stores, somethimes purchasing a publication that looks interesting, only to find that I would need a degree in finance to understand it. What a pleasure to find "Funding Your Dreams". A book that is written so that one can understand its concepts without all the 5 dollar words that send me to the dictionary every other sentence! Carol writes with knowledge, compassion and understanding of the lay readers needs. Most of all she gives sound, solid advice with suggestions for practical application. I wish I had had this book twenty years ago but it's never to late to start. This book is a must read for everyone, regardless of monetary assets. I also appreciate the balance that Carol presents to the reader. Yes we need to save, yes we need to plan for our children, our aging parents, and our own retirement, but we can also need to give ourselves permission to set aside some funds for our own enjoyment. Carol obviously has a zest for life and her energy comes through in her writing. This book should be on the coffee table of every home, and should be read by every generation that lives with that coffee table! This book would make a wonderful gift for young couples ( or graduates) starting out as well as those of us in the baby boomer generation. Thanks Carol, for writing words that I have needed to read for years!

The best financial book ever!.......2001-05-31
This is the first book that really made a difference for me financially! My family and I have met several times to discuss and plan our dreams and funds. We have been able to brainstorm and come up with ideas financially for each family member, with two of their dreams already accomplished. Even my nine year old is happy (he got an increase in allowance) and is telling all his friends to have their parents get the book!
I loved how the author "speaks directly to you" rather than just giving financial information. I hightly recommend this unique book that is simply put, direct, and actually affects changes in your financial status! It's a must for single parents like me!
Funding Your Dreams Generation to Gernation.......2001-05-20
Carole touches on important and weighty subjects, yet presents them to the reader in a friendly, accessible, easy to understand style. From the very beginning we think of her as `Carole' rather than Ms Akright, feeling that we are not facing a stranger, but, instead, listening to someone we know who cares about our problems. Not only does the book convey great generosity of spirit, but it also offers practical information that can benefit any family. The book is devoted to showing that dreams can indeed come true, and helps the reader understand `that money can and should be used as a family resource' that can help with dream fulfillment. Carole covers the dreams and needs of each generation, including basic issues such as retirement, long-term care, children's education, even meeting the bills. But she does not forget the vacations, adventures, life styles, purchases that one might also dream of. As she says, `You have the right to go after what you want in life.' According to Carole, inter-generational dream funding leads to a greater closeness of families, a greater sharing of values, and offers more emotional support, ideas and energy, as well as larger financial resources to call upon. This is a book to read, think about, and then perhaps read again in order to learn how to make dreams come true.

Book Description
Simplifying and understanding health care in America.
In 2004, Congress created Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) with the intention of putting the brakes on runaway health care costs. The concept was simple: Get people to start thinking about health care expenses the same way they think about other goods and services they buy. But what started as simple idea has proven to be difficult for many to understand and implement. This book simplifies HSAs and their corresponding HDHPs for business owners and managers alike.
Covers how HSAs and HDHPs work, the pros and cons of them, how to install them, strategies for getting the most out of them, and how paychecks and taxes are affected
U.S. health care costs were nearly $1.7 trillion in 2003.
According to a national survey, 81% of large and 78% of small companies are considering implementing HSAs by 2006

Customer Reviews:
Surprisingly Poor.......2005-03-27
I generally like the Idiot's Guide series, but this book is suprisingly poorly written. My first objection is just a pet peeve. The authors have that strange affectation you hear sometimes from people tryin' to fancy up their vocabulary: they use the word "monies" all the time when they mean "money". Granted, that's just me, but the repeated use of a gimmicky word made the whole book feel sort of cheesy.
My other complaints are substantive. The book is really designed for folks with bad credit or other "qualification hurdles". There's a whole chapter on "If You Don't Fit the Mold", i.e., if you don't qualify for ordinary mortgages and have to be a bit more creative. Plus this same material is repeated in most of the other chapters as well. Fair enough, I'm sure lots of folks out there have credit "hurdles" and need some good advice. But by reaching for this niche market, the authors have made a choice to include 20 or 30 pages that aren't useful to the majority of home-buyers who do Fit the Mold. I riffed through all this extraneous material but was disappointed to find there simply wasn't much of use to me.
When I was looking for real, concrete tips, I found little more than bland generalizations. With the complicated and articulated mortgage market these days, it would be great to get some advice on how to identify, solicit, and sift through all the dozens or hundreds of mortgage lenders out there. Instead, Chapter 2 merely tells me that there are several types of lenders out there (um, yes, I could tell that by the several types of spam that hit my e-mail account every day), and that I should interview lenders before selecting one. Well, that's not real helpful.
The book feels hastily-written. The authors seem competent. They eagerly explain all about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and try, in their haphazard way, to describe some of the details of the loan process. But at the end of the book, I still have dozens of unanswered questions about my own case.
My recommendation: take a pass on this book. A better and more informative buy is Ilyce Glink's "100 Questions Every First-Time Home Buyer Should Ask". Glink provides more comprehensive, more recent, and more useful information, as well as websites and other background materials.
Nobody explains money like Edie Milligan.......2003-10-10
Absolutely noone explains money issues like Edie Milligan. This book explains everything you ever wanted to know, plus a lot of things you never knew you didn't know.
Wow! Solid Information, presented very well........2003-09-14
Anyone new to the mortgage field must have this book. I'm not new, but I would categorize myself as in the early stage of my mortgage career and this book explained a lot that I didn't know. I especially like the sections that explain the Truth-In-Lending Statement, the Good Faith Estimate and the HUD-1.
