...and then throw out all your antidepressants. There's a book for every emotion one can go through in life. One caveat, however: If you're easily embarrassed, don't read these books to yourself in public. You will piss your pants with laughter.

This book was a joy to read with both of my dearest friends. We all got more than a few good laughs at some of the pictures and captions. I would recommend this book as a gift for a good friend.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

He's right about inflammation, you know........2007-10-06

I just finished this book. It was a light and interesting read. I gave it five stars because I believe that despite how the material was delivered -- it is an extremely important subject that is, overall, quite esoteric. Thus, for his field one can't criticize too harshly.

The book itself I felt like it could, as other reviewers have said, had a little more emphasis on an actual plan. Instead of giving a plan he demonstrated it with *ideas* for meals. I really wanted some more specific nutritional content instead of an overall "index." But hey, maybe I'm just a little bit of a science geek at heart. (Give me real numbers, not made up units!) Though, clearly, this book was intended for the common man -- for the nation -- not for a scientist at heart.

One thing that surprised me is how little supplementation of omega 3 EPA he recommended. Perhaps this was because he expected us to be getting it from the better meals we would be eating? Some studies on depression/bipolar, among other things recommend supplementing as much as 2 GRAMS of EPA per day, many of which have impressive outcomes! (Can this amount be achieved simply by eating "right?" Perhaps this high ammount is therapeautic)

But the important things that were introduced to me in this book that despite all of my reading of scientific studies, and prowling around on the net for information on inflammatory disease, I had never run across comes from the insightful review of the effects of arachidonic acid -- an insidious omega 6 fatty acid in our diet responsible for much of our immune problems as a nation, and the effects of an important supplement I'd entirely neglected to ever look into: borage oil.

Over all, this book had great information in it that even an otherwise well-informed guy like me could use! For all of it's shortcomings it offers something that's great, and I think, could stop a LOT of misery in this world! If I have any criticism, it is that it felt geared a little too much towards the average joe! But this isn't a bad thing... it just serves a bigger purpose and that is helping the common man, instead of being simply of academic appeal.

What the authors say about inflammation and arachidonic acid is true and significant, but the lask of mention of other causes of inflammation is hard to forgive. Not a word is said about toxins, homocysteine, infections, oxidants, or inflammatory vegetable oils. among many causes of inflammation. YOu might try THE INFLAMMATION SYNDROME, or HONEST NUTRITION.

interesting reading, not perfect.......2007-03-10

Very interesting take on diet and metabolism that I have not seen anywhere else. I recommend the book for that reason. Even so, it has a couple of shortcomings. Firstly, Chilton is a researcher and he mentions conducting six research studies on AA. But he gives no details (although one paper is attached as an appendix) - no high-level overview of how the pieces came together, how the studies proceeded, how many participants, nature of the results in each study. Secondly as other people have noted, his plan of action is rather vague. He is absolutely clear about two foods to avoid - farmed salmon and eggs. He then gives a table of every food that has been measured by the USDA for its AA content and lists them in order, but it's less useful than you might think, with weird listings like chitterlings and pork skins. And the main text is also vague - at one point (p.95) he mentions beef and lamb as being low in AA. But his food pyramid shows beef and pork, no lamb. No mention of whether industrially farmed meat/eggs are worse than naturally raised. Worth it for the info about AA though, speculative as it is at the moment.

Need to be a NY Nutrionist.......2006-10-09

I bought this book in an effort to help myself w/fibromyalgia pain. I actually bought "WInning the War" which is the newest book, which Prevention Mag. sent a free copy to review before buying. After coming on line here, one reveiw indicated it was nearly the same as Inflammation Nation. I went to local bookstore, found inflammation Nation there for far less than the $40 Prevention/Rodale books wanted for his Winning the War book. These are just about as identical as 2 books can get. I find the book contains much information and is well written. However, like many who wrote, it's almost not a book to be readl but rather studied. I find I have had to take notes of this and that, and these AA's and so much more that the general public most likely wouldn't understand. I was disappointed that there is not a list of substitute type foods, esp. in my case, where I don't eat fish at all. Overall, a good book for reference on which foods carry more inflammation, but I think I need to focus on seeing a nutrionist more, who can work with me one on one per se, and make any adjustments I may need. I just found it very involved, and somewhat complicated for one who's not dieted per se before for inflammation sake.

disappointed.......2006-09-01

I was very disappointed when I opened this book. I thought I was reading his other book, WINNING THE WAR WITHIN, with a new cover. Essentially I was. There is not enough new information in this book to justify buying both. It should have been published as a newer version of the old book, not a totally new book. Sorry, it is well written, an awful lot of good and well presented information, but feel like I was charged twice for the same book. If you don't own the War Within, then by all means, buy this book. If you do, then I'd pass. Thank you.

Helpful, thought provoking.......2007-10-02

This book relates the personal journeys of two women, Carol and Laurelee, with their struggles to overcome obsession with food, dieting and negative body image. In the course of telling their stories and the stories of many women they have worked with, a very powerful set of lessons unfolds. I read the book over a period of months, reading, re-reading, putting it down and then picking it up. There are meditations and exercises in the book that are very helpful. For example, they have an exercise in the book about sending loving thoughts to parts of your body that you dislike. What a concept! The basic message is that an eating disorder is a way of coping with life and by looking deeply at your relationship with food you can learn what it is you really need in life, pursue that, and food will get back into a normal perspective. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has issues with food or loves someone who has issues with food. That includes just about everyone I think!

End Your Obsessions.......2006-11-17

While the authors specialize in dealing with people who have issues with Overeating, I felt that the book was very useful in helping me address my issues with anorexia. The book challenges you to dig into the issues behind why you're involved in a practice of eating (for me, restricting) and to understand how you're using food to substitute for other methods of dealing with your problems. I would highly recommend this book to anyone on the road to recovery from and Eating Disorder.

The Book Changed My Life.......2006-11-17

This book was a gift given to me by a friend years ago. I own and have read about twelve books on the topic. Out of all of them, this has been by far the best. By the end it feels like a journey inside yourself has taken place and you arrive to a new destination--on your insides. The feel of the book is one of love and support. Not the self-centered type, or author as guru type, this one has the experience of two professional therapists that shows in each chapter. If you have any eating issues then this book is a worthwhile read.

Does not help at all.......2006-10-21

I actually returned this book because it had very little , if anything, to do with WHY you actually compulsively eat. it did not go into or even explained the psychological factors that influence C.O. all this book talk about is how women's self-image is polluted with diet ads etc, etc. it does not deal at all with how to actually stop, in an effective way.

same thing as Overcoming Overeating. the whole point of the book is to stop dieting and to stop having a dieting mentality. also it doe snot deal with the actual cause of you overeating ( which is not dieting)

if you really want to overcome overeating and end your obsession with food, you need to know why you are physiologically addicted to food. why you find so much pleasure in it. and for that you have to read books with substantial research, not just a feminist sound-off.

read : the pleasure trap, LIfe is hard- food is easy , to name a few good ones.

This book is full of good information on why a person overeats. It isn't a book you can read in one evening. It will take some time to read it thoroughly.

Written by Elaine C. Kamarck, a former senior policy advisor to the Clinton administration, The End of Government...As We Know It: Making Public Policy Work is a nonpartisan examination of the failings of bureaucratic government models with newer, leaner, and more creative approaches in keeping with the fast-paced and ever-changing information age. Chapters address the problem of homeland security and why bureaucratic thinking has failed to solve it, tools for reinventing the public sector such as waivers, applying the reinvention of government to the problem of welfare dependence (one such positive example is the use of an electronic benefit card to supplant food stamps - since food stamps can be used like cash and are thus more susceptible to corruption) and much more. A plain-spoken, serious-minded plethora of twenty-first century solutions to problems compounded by bureaucratic quagmires left over from the twentieth century. Highly recommended, especially for anyone active in local, state, or federal government.

The book is huge and bound in a beautiful leather cover. The pictures and illustrations are no less than amazing and are definitely worth the $$$ you're going to spend. I am a big fan of "The Art of..." type books, and they are usually great fun and add to my enjoyment of the movie. "The Art of Pirates of the Caribbean", however, sets a new standard for quality in this type of book. From the faux-leather cover and binding, to the quality of the paper and the standards of the printing and color reproduction, this is the BEST book of its kind I have ever seen. Filled with fantastic art from all three movies, lavishly laid out...two page fold-out spreads; framable quality full page paintings and sketches..this book has it ALL. If you're a fan of the movies; appreciate great Pirate Art; or simply enjoy a lavishly produced movie book--BUY THIS BOOK (or as Capt. Jack would say--"Just go and steal it!")

The Art of the Pirates of the Caribbean is a 160-page hardcover priced at a hefty $50. Although the art covers all three movies, it is mostly sketches and concept art without explanatory text or behind the scenes discussion. As such, it's good eye candy, but not much else.

This is a book you can set on the coffee table for friends to flip through. However, as a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, I was ready to devour this book and came away somewhat disappointed. The drawings are a mix of black-and-white and color of the characters, ships, scenes, and such. Some of the drawings are storyboards and there are a few fold out pages.

Best Book on Panic I Own.......2007-08-28

I have been plagued with panic attacks for 5 years. Despite medication and therapy, the anxiety of having another panic attack remains with me 24/7.
This book was recommended to me by my therapist, and it is truly excellent. Do not plan to breeze through it in a few evenings, though. It has questions to answer, things to ponder, and requires more involvement than "quick fix" books that you've probably already tried. You must truly commit to going through the book and doing the exercises - and making that commitment can be difficult.

It is working very well for me so far. I just recently got the book, (probably a week ago) and it has helped me significantly. I am now not experiencing any more panic attacks and I feel very good.

A good empirically-based treatment workbook.......2002-02-24

This is a sound approach to treating panic and anxiety. The exercises are based on the clinical literature and the author's experience as a therapist. The book is in workbook format with large pages and very long lines of text across the page, which makes reading it difficult for some clients. In addition, the client has to be fairly well educated to benefit from the text. It would not be very useful to those who are not very good readers or those who have little formal education (e.g., high school dropouts with little interest in reading). Nonetheless, the ideas are useful for therapists who can incorporate them into their work without using the text per se.

TRULY AN ACTIVE GUIDE IN OVERCOMING PANIC.......2001-09-11

I have read many books and seen many therapist over the last 8 years, and this book proves to place the reader in an active role in overcoming their anxiety. Not that other books were not helpful, but this one made the other books about anxiety all come together to reinforce what I was doing. The best advice is to have someone help you to be accountable and do what the book says because only practice will help you change.

Real, workable solutions........2001-08-05

I've read many, many books on treating panic disorder, but this is the ONLY book that helped me overcome my panic disorder. I only wish I had read it years ago. Panic pretty much ... my life down a black hole -- I was so agoraphobic that for two years I rarely left my bedroom, even to go down the hall to the kitchen. A cognitive-behavioral therapist gave me a copy of this book and took me step by step thru it. It took 8 months of hard, scary work but today I can go anywhere, with or without anyone, and do anything, for as long as I want, whenever I want --not a medication in sight and not a twinge of inapropriate panic. Two years ago I couldn't even contemplate walking to the end of my driveway. I just can't recommend this book highly enough. It was the light at the end of my tunnel.

There's a lot of good information in this book...for 1998. Breast cancer treatment and survival has come a long way since then; this book should reflect that. Also, was surprised at how much stuff they covered that *wasn't* post-treatment. A lot of what this book covered was in other books for the newly diagnosed and those going through treatment -- I wanted more about actual life after treatment, not more recaps of breast reconstruction.

I've been reading and researching breast cancer on and off for 4 years. A year ago my breast cancer metasticized, and it's hard to find honest information (or any information) about metastatic disease. The title to this book is misleading, because it doesn't mention the fantastic, updated metastatic information. It is by far the most comprehensive, readable treatment of this I've found. I'm ordering several copies to give away.

My daughter was sitting with my husband and myself in the office of my radiation oncologist. She spotted "Living Beyond Breast Cancer" on the bookshelf. She like myself was so lost when we found I had breast cancer. Neither my husband, daughter or myself knew what was going to happen. She began reading the book and could not put it down. When the Dr. came into the room he made comment about the book she was reading. She was so elated with all the facts, which are printed in such simple language that we could understand. The Dr. saw her enthusiasm and offered for her to take it home. Since that time I have not been able to seperate myself from this book. As I progress thru my mastectomy, I find new items of interest. It also helped me understand what my partner, my husband, was feeling. I read one of the chapters to him, at our breakfast table. We sat and cried and agreed that the way he was feeling was as written in the book. I never realized just how much he hurt and how comforting it was to him to know there was a book written that could tell me how he felt.

I have since recommended this book to others. If you cannot get out to support groups or are afraid to go, this book gives you all the support you could ever ask for in the comfort of your home or office. I am 62 years old and a very active business woman. I wondered if my business life was over. The book proved my fears to be very wrong.

For myself and my daughter, it is our lifeline! Thank you Dr. Marisa Weiss and also Ellen Weiss. You have done a tremendous favor to women like me.

This is the type of book I've been wanting. It offers wonderful support and needed information. The authors are empathetic and straight forward, guiding us to reach beyond (hence the title, of course) the psychological boundaries that women who have survived a bout with breast cancer put on ourselves. It offers clear, concise suggestions for what to do now and for facing the future, which may or may not include a recurrance of breast cancer. There are sections which are not applicable to me, but this is bound to be true when a text is so comprehensive. After checking this book out of the library three times, I have realized that this is a book all women who have had breast cancer need to own for themselves.

My wife and I found this book to be very exciting as it depicts how orphan children in China where provided with a home in an orphanage; how they were fed and clothes and taken care of. This - in and of itself - is a dynamic testimony of how Jesus Christ brings victory into the lives of these children. However, their experience of seeing visions and dreams of Heaven, of God, of Jesus and of angels is one to be envied. We strongly encourage you to read this book. You will not be able to put it down.

This is an essential read for those who want more of God.

Story of these Chinese orphans who experience a radical outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The book documents their experiences and visions which will stretch your brain and wreck your heart.

I rate this book very high as it offers hope for the Christian and even greater hope for the Christian missionaries. H.A. Baker's journal account of what the children in his orphanage experienced just confirms many of the testimonies of others in different parts of the world, even as recent as 2007. God is alive and He still reigns! Books like Visions Beyone the Veil are inspiring to motivate anyone with a desire, to Ask, Seek and Knock knowing that God will answer, you will find and He will open the door to understanding.

If one reads with thirst for the Truth, with an open mind, the reader will be excited as they read through this non-fictional account of the experiences of a missionary and his wife to China in the early 1900s. This is a long book, and as detailed as it gets, into the problem of the end times. No matter what your take on that subject, this book will answer many of your questions. Certainly it gives a thorough background into the way the early Christians interpreted the end times.

The gist of Currie's argument centers around what happened in 70 AD, which is frequently overlooked by other interpretations.

Jesus, in the Olivet discourse, very clearly promised that "this generation" (Matt 24) would not pass away before they had seen many signs and events. C S Lewis called the Olivet discourse, "'certainly the most embarrassing verse in the bible'" (p148).

Unless you take Jesus at his word. Then, as Currie painstakingly explains, those words are full filled when the Romans, in 70 AD, burned the temple to the grounds. This was exactly the way that Origen, Clement of Alexandria, and Eusebius interpreted his words.

The history and background of biblical interpretation are worth the price of the book.

It is necessary to take a leap of faith to in order to fully accept Christian doctrine.

There has always been within Christendom that group which does (take a leap of fatih) and that group (Apologists) that do not. This is NOT a Catholic v Protestant division.

This book is written from the Apologist point of view. I give it a three star rating for the research but do accept its conclusions. However it does contain some valid criticisms.

Evangelicals fall into error when their faith becomes presumption.

Regarding end times eschatology - no time table should calculated (and the instruction not to do this appears in Scripture) - that is the error -the mistake that many Evangelicals make.

It is not an error to believe by faith in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

For decades Christian Apologists taught that the prophesized rebirth of Israel was intended as a spiritual metaphor nothing more.

Well we all know what happened in 1948.

Absolutely fantastic - best book on end times I've read, and I've read a lot.

Read "Whose Right It Is" also.......2007-01-20

Any book that dispels the absolute foolishness of the "Rapture Theory" has to have some merits. I do not follow theories. I seek the truth that only the Spirit of God can reveal and confirm. You should read the book "Whose Right It Is" by Dr. Kelley Varner for a greater spiritual insight into these matters. He takes head on every argument the tribbers have. The prophecies of Daniel that are incorrectly used to support the "Rapture Theory" are clearly expounded on in his book. All of the writings of Paul that have been abused by those who preach the rapture are dealt with by Dr. Varner to reveal their true spiritual implications and the context in which they were given.

True spiritual growth is beyond the intellect. Those who truly seek to worship Jesus in spirit and truth will be led to the truth of the Word. The truth concerning God's purpose in the earth is repeated throughout the word. Just read Psalms 37. Search on the words "righteous", "righteousness", "wicked", "wickedness" and similar words in the book of Proverbs and you will see that God's purpose is to remove all wickedness and leave behind his righteousness. So I hope to God I am left behind. Isaiah 45:18 states "...God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited..." By preaching a physical "taking away" we are actually speaking against the very purposes of God. Jesus spoke in his model prayer to the disciples, "in earth as it is in heaven". Not to mention "the meek shall inherit the earth."

Once again, I highly recommend "Whose Right It Is" by Dr. Kelley Varner.

Rapture! - finally a book that dispells the myth.......2007-01-04

What a great read. It really lays out the scripture and it is tough to adhere to these phony baloney rapture claims. Good link with Daniel and the Olivet discourse in the Gospels to the book of Revelation. It is a bit slow and repetetive in the early chapters but it picks up a bit when you get to the destruction of biblical Isreal by the Romans (Europeans picking on the Jews? Who ever heard of such a thing).

So read and enjoy. Otherwise, stock up your supplies for 7 years of tribulations.
