Customer Reviews:
Best book ever written.......2007-09-14
This was the most thoroughly informative, entertaining, and magnificent piece of literature I have ever read on any subject. Richard Doernberg sheds light on some of the most difficult concepts in U.S. tax law. His clever insights and piercing intellectual observations will make you reconsider your thoughts on life, the universe, and everything. Doernberg is truly the best thing to happen to international taxation since the check the box regulations.
Wonderful overview of international tax.......2007-06-21
The International Tax Nutshell is a wonderful overview of international tax. As some comments have indicated, it is a tough area, but Doernberg does a great job of guiding people through the various twists and turns.
Not for laymen, indeed.......2007-02-21
Disregard reviews criticizing the technical nature of this book. I became a fond user of the Nutshell series when I was in law school; I don't think that these books were ever intended for use by the Average Joe. By its very nature, the subject matter is technical and can only be simplified so much. There is a reason why there is no such book as "International Taxation for Dummies" or "Brain Surgery for Dummies".
These books are great to use as a springboard for further research and study of the issues covered. I would recommend the book to students and practitioners of accounting, business, and taxation.
Sooo dull.......2007-02-18
It a good book in terms of what to spect from a "in a nut shell" book, but the topic is reeaaally boring.
Too technical for somebody just wanting to get an idea of this subject.
I'm not employed by a tax lawyer.......2006-02-28
This would probably be a great book for a law student, but not for a lay person. I consider myself to be fairly intelligent, but I had a bit of difficulty wading through this to find the little bit of info that I needed. I'm sure it's also a great book for someone with a tax background.

Product Description
This book is written as a review for students taking the first course in business organizations. The authors emphasize explanation, focusing on explaining the basic concepts covered in class, providing a business and practice context for those concepts, and showing how the concepts are consistent, and sometimes inconsistent with each other. The book is organized around the life cycle of a business, beginning with the choice of business structure, ending with the choices of possible "end-games" for the business and its owners, and covering the common legal issues in running and growing a business.
Customer Reviews:
A little nut of knowledge.......2007-03-30
I bought this book to help me get through Business Associations/Organizations in law school. I found it to be an easy read and very helpful in explaining nuanced business concepts. However, if your business course is like mine, you will spend the bulk of your time on Corporations. To that end I would suggest purchasing the Nutshell's Corporations book as a companion to Nutshell's Business Associations. Best of luck in your business legal studies!
really helpful.......2006-09-04
I took Intro to Business Associations and this book was very helpful. It is short enough that reading the whole thing is not a task, yet long enough to be helpful. It provided many clear examples and was easy to understand. A.

Book Description
The need for an understanding of accounting is now even more critical than ever for lawyers practicing in many areas including securities and corporate law and litigation. In addition, over the last several years, the Financial Accounting Standards Board has made some landmark changes in the accounting rules in areas of interest to lawyers, including the accounting for mergers and acquisitions. The Second Edition of Accounting and Finance For Lawyers includes important material on such areas as accounting for stock options and derivatives and the elimination of the pooling of interests method of accounting for acquisitions. There is a discussion of the accounting implications of the use of so-called special purpose entities. Finally, a chapter on international accounting issues reflects the increasing globalization of business and accounting. As in the First Edition, the basic building blocks of accounting are covered so that the material is accessible and useful to those with any level of accounting knowledge.
Customer Reviews:
Does its job: Teaches you accounting.......2004-12-08
After fruitlessly attempting to learn accounting from the truly awful casebook we were using in an "Accounting for Lawyers" class, I bought this book off of Amazon after hearing it made the subject approachable. I've generally been impressed by the quality of West's Nutshell series, and this one is no different. The subjects are arranged in a rational order, the book is edited well, and I understood the material after one read-through. This is a typical nutshell book- no superfluous examples or problem sets that no professor actually assigns, just straightforward doctrine. If you're taking an Accounting for Lawyers class or are a solo practicioner looking to delve into some financial statements without hiring an accountant, this should get you by just fine.

Having taken Land Use Control Law at the University of Wisconsin - School of Law in 1984 I found this book an excellent review. It doesn't replace case law but the overview that it provides is excellent.
Now serving on the Planning and Zoning Board in the city in which I live it is indespensible and easy to read. I am very glad that I purchased it.

Customer Reviews:
Great Study Aid.......2007-05-12
This book is a fantastic study aid, whether you are getting ready for final exams or are an attorney wanting to brush up. It really makes the subject clear and concise, which is a miracle considering the horrible tangle that has been made of the law. Collins does a nice job explaining the cases, and their realtionships to one another, and to 1983 doctrine. It doesn't cover 1981, 82, or 85, which is unfortunate because they are usually taught together with 1983. BUT, since 83 is more common and more complicated, this is still a great book. Highly reccommended for students!
View from a pro se .......2007-02-25
This book show that the subject is somewhat complicated. It is good to read just to get an idea of what your attorney is up to. If you can find an attorney. Unless there is a chance of substantial settlement, an attorney is not going to be interested in your case.
The book is not that hard to understand. Not a lot of latin.
Collins KNOWS this stuff.......2000-04-24
Each year Section 1983 litigation makes up by far the bulk of the civil work of federal courts. Section 1983 has produced some of the most confused and confusing doctrine in the law, largely because it operates at the frontiers of some very serious conflicts between competing and perhaps irreconcilable constitutional mandates. Collins, a professor at Tulane Law Schools, KNOWS this material better than most of the judges who will decide 1983 cases every day. He practiced in the area for a number of years, and teaches a course specifically on 1983 at Tulane (as well as civil procedure and federal courts courses). He's also one of the clearest writers you'll find in West's Nutshell Series. Make no mistake, this material is tough, and it's extremely helpful having someone as bright as Collins guiding you through it.
