CAN'T BEAT THIS FOR THE PRICE.......2006-05-15
I recently purchased the Lean Pocket Guide (published by MCS Media, Inc. i.e., The Lean Store) and found it to be the most book for your money that is on the market. This book set the standard for good, informative information on Lean. The illustrations and explanations were perfect for the folks on the shop floor, as well as my supervisors.
A Lean book that practices what it preaches!
What you need on the shop floor:-).......2006-03-30
Hello, this little booklet is excellent. You get all information on lean concepts in your palm and right where you need it -not at your desk- but on the shop floor.
Even better would be customized country versions to spread the lean culture widely amongst companies;-))
Regards
Ralf Lippold
OUTSTANDING!.......2005-08-20
The Lean Pocket Guide is undoubtedly the best value Lean book ever written. All the Lean tools are clearly defined, along with good, simple illustrations. The Key Points at the end of each section provide additional insight into Lean applications. All our employees have one of these. It was very rewarding to see - on the day following giving these to our employees (there was an employee that did not particpate very often in our teams) having The Lean Pocket Guide opened on his bench to the Standard Work chapter. I need say no more!
The Greatest Lean Book Ever Written.......2004-09-04
This is by far the best and most comprehensive book on lean terms and concepts in the market. The group of authors certainly understand and know the ins and outs of Lean. The illustrations, graphs, directions, key points are superbly explained like no other book..and I have read them all. Fantastic job authors!

Customer Reviews:
Small Business Must Have for your Tool Box.......2007-08-31
I can't say enough good things about this extremely useful tool. Duct Tape Marketing (or as Brian Small and I refer to it as "DTM") breaks the paradigm of what most small business owners "think" marketing is all about.
I've consulting small businesses in the way of marketing for years as well as worked to keep my own business(es) on track with marketing. Now it's as though I've taken a good tool in my toolbox and turned it into a hyper-drive power tool.
If you're thinking about starting a small business or have a well established small business then this book will make any time you spend on marketing much more effective.
This book was recommended to me by my friend and business com padre by Brian Small (www.briansmall.com) and in the last month I've recommended to many other small business owners. If you don't take time to work "on" your business then you're going to fall short of your potential. Make it a priority to read this book in a 4 week period.
Kyle Dreier
A Good Book on Marketing and Worth the Price.......2007-08-06
Although this book is not in my top ten of marketing books, it is still a good book with some useful ideas. There are many keys to successful marketing. Unfortunately, if one or more keys is missing, the total marketing effort can be wasted.
This book covers many of the keys. I wish it showed better how the pieces fit together to make a complete sale, but it does a good job on the keys it does cover. If you are a small business owner, read the book and use the ideas. You will see positive results.
One of the best books on marketing that a small business owner can read.......2007-08-03
To say "Duct Tape Marketing" is a great book is an understatement. As an entrepreneur who has founded two small companies, I found John Jantsch's approach to help customers to know, like and trust you more to be intuitive, yet very powerful.
He got my undivided attention from the point he proposed having you first identify your ideal clients (as early as in page 5) and asking you to fire about 20 percent of your past customers, if they no longer fit into the picture of your current business. Now THAT makes sense and it is SO powerful: I could recall the occasions when I was spending time pursuing projects that were not a good fit for the goals of our company, but we still pursued them ("Hey! It's business!"). Since I read that section, I've felt more comfortable not pursuing distracting projects.
He then proceeds to walk you through the discovery and delivery of your marketing message in a way that speaks to the heart of those ideal customers you identified early on. The rest of the book is packed with tactics to get that message in front of your target audience and help them contact you and refer you.
These easily are the best 300 pages I have read since I became a small business.
Love it!.......2007-07-23
This book has WONDERFUL, thorough advice for the small business. It really gets the creative juices flowing. I highly recommend this book.
Want More Customers? Then Read This Book!.......2007-07-17
Regardless of what you already know about marketing a small to mid-size business, this book is for you. It's a powerful tool that focuses on your specific marketing needs and your specific capabilites. John Jantsch doesn't merely tell you what to do, he explains how and why to do it. The information is clear, concise, and surprisingly thorough. John covers a broad spectrum of important marketing issues, starting from the basics of defining your customer, to a well-written summary about the power and value of effective Internet marketing. If you're smart, you'll read this book and then keep it handy as an ongoing reference tool.

A Reference for Training Departments.......2006-04-21
This handbook is a collection of ideas from companies for designing employee training and learning systems. It covers such areas such as creating the "learning organization", outsourcing, electronic performance systems, interactive multimedia training systems, diversity training and development, training for global operations and benchmarking for best practices.
This comprehensive handbook helps trainers design classrooms, self-study and computer and web based training programs. While delivering the latest information on how adults learn best, it shows trainers how to prepare lesson plans, create visual aids, and deliver dynamic and powerful presentations.
Classic reference for Training & Development Professionals.......2002-02-09
The Handbook is arranged to cover almost all aspects of Training & Development. The topics are carefully selected and their authors picked from among the top names in their respective fields and therefore, the chapters are focused, targeted and provide the right mix of information and practical guidelines.
Each chapter addresses a single topic (like corporate universities, customer service training, leadership development, etc.) and is written in a straight-forward manner at the right depth making them easy to read and the perfect introduction to the topic without losing it's functionality as a reference.
No T&D professional should go without this book whether as a reference and a quick source of information when memory will just not oblige or an informative and valuable resource for information and ideas.
The Handbook is divided into 5 Sections:
1) The Training & development Function - Covering such topics as the learning organization, history of training and cost accounting for training.
2) Program Design & Development - The chapters on ISD; HPT; Adult Learning; & Evaluation are brilliantly written. I keep on going back to them again and again.
3) Media & methods - Includes some good case studies as well as Thiagi's excellent chapter on instructional games.
4) Training Applications - This is a brilliant discussion of almost all training topics that you might come across.
5) Resources - While these might be a little dated, they are still quite useful.
Check the table of Contents and some of the samples in the pages so obligingly provided by Amazon.com and don't be deterred by the length or the price of the book. This book is worth every cent and will last you long after you have forgotten the cost.

Customer Reviews:
One-stop gateway to the telecom world, but don't stop here........2000-07-30
I am the officer technical lead for a 50-person military intrusion detection operation. I read Mr Green's book to get a broader understanding of the telecom world, of which network intrusion detection occupies a small but highly visible part. This immense book (774 pages of text, plus URLs, acronyms, and a glossary) addressed nearly every topic I had encountered reading communications magazines, speaking with the telecom industry, and researching the Web. While no single book can provide the depth needed for truly understand a specific technology, Mr Green's work provided the foundation for future research. For example, after getting the context for SS7, I may now buy "Signalling System #7, 3rd Edition" by Travis Russell. I didn't give the book five stars, as I was not completely comfortable absorbing the material. This is the sort of book that requires you to read the whole book twice in order to appreciate the early chapters. References to technologies like ATM or frame relay in the first half of the book make much more sense after reading chapters dedicated to those issues. If Mr Green had given me slightly more to grasp while reading the early material, or had perhaps organized the book with the telecom novice in mind, I may have given five stars. Nevertheless, if you're looking for one-stop shopping for telecommunications, I highly recommend this book. Don't be fooled by the "business" classification on the dust jacket -- this book is a technical volume, with protocol headers and other details included. Great work Mr Green!
Technical and Readable.......2000-04-01
The Irwin Handbook of telecommunications is both technical and readable. It is an excellent text for telecommunication students, managers, and vendors. The field of telecommunications is rapidly evolving. In the future ,jobs and fortunes will be won and lost by those who apply winning technologies. Consider this book a score card. You cannt tell the players without a scorecard.
The best book on telecommunications I have ever read........1999-10-17
I read this book about a year or so ago, and I have been looking for it since then. It is the best book on telecommunications I have ever read. It goes into great depth of Switching, SS7, VMBs, PBXs, Centrex, ISDN, etc. Definitely a good buy.
A Great Reference For Telecom and Data Technologies.......1998-06-20
This book covers all of the existing and developing technologies in voice and data communications.

A Classroom In A Book.......2006-05-29
The way Keith Dawson handles the materials is well-written and concise. He does not waste much time going into more than just a couple real-world applications for the technologies he is explaining, but he does set your mind spinning about how they can be used to suit your needs. The information on VoIP and IP Telephony are a little dated and an updated edition would obviously expand a lot on those technologies (which were just emerging when the book was written but have become very popular in the industry now). Not only does he discuss what technologies are available (like AVR, IP-PBX, Recording, Call Queuing, etc.), he goes into a brief discription of the more traditional PBX system, if only to point out their flaws compared to today's newer technology but not failing to point out their merits as well. A good book for someone who is just beginning to integrate themselves in the field and the tech.
THE CALL CENTER: SELF-SERVICE OR SELF DELUSION?.......2005-07-31
Chances are that you already have this book in your IT library. But, you probably don't have the 5th edition of the book. Author Keith Dawson has done an outstanding job of presenting the complete guide to starting, running and improving your call center.
Dawson begins by showing you his Six-Stage Model of Call Center Development, which is has to do with the way the call center interacts with the rest of the company. Next, the author discusses how you are going to have to find a place or location for your call center. Then, he covers some of the important factors that go into a call center successful design. Dawson next discusses how you have to be very careful in choosing the toll free and long distance services for your call center, because they will be very expensive. Next, the author also covers the automatic call distributor, which routes calls and manages information with respect to those calls. Then, he examines predictive dialing systems, which automate the entire outdialing process, with the computer choosing the person to be called and dialing the number. In addition, Dawson then examines the pros and cons of computer telephone integration. Next, the author looks at interactive voice response, which always captures information in an accurate manner. Then, he researches speech recognition system technology as an autoselector tool for the call center. Dawson continues on by exploring the Web as a tool to automate all of the call center functions without human interaction. Next, the author discusses some of the interesting new tools available, including CRM and the new theories of multichannel access for customer contact. Then, he gives some very serious thought about putting a video in your call center. Dawson then discusses that the best way to route a call to the agent most capable of handling that specific call, is routing based on an agent's skill or combination of skills, like language, training, experience, or any mix of those and other factors. Then, the author explains the importance of customer relationship management (CRM). Next, he shows you why order processing systems give you power over your inventory and pricing. Dawson next reminds you why display boards and readerboards are a stable versatile technology, and an inexpensive way to quickly improve call center performance. The author also explains why headsets are a key ingredient in every call center. Next, he discusses the on-hold messaging queue. Dawson also explains the importance of workforce management software, and how it is the art and science of having the right number of agents at the right times, in their seats, to answer an accurately forecasted volume of incoming calls at the service level you desire. Then, the author continues on by explaining why monitoring is a critical part of the process of teaching anew rep how to deal with customers, how to handle difficult situations, even simply how to follow a script and read a screen full of complex information. Finally, he goes into how to make call center careers meaningful.
With the preceding in mind, the author has done an excellent job of making you, the reader, understand the value of surefire ways to motivate your reps; realize the value on the front line; outsourcing; disaster and contingency planning; and, telecommuting agents. At the end of the day, you'll know whether the call center is self-service or self-delusion.
you don't learn anything.......2002-04-25
Buy it only if you are a beginner.

By the way, get a Call Center Magazine subscription to continue the information flow started by reading this book.
A good general guide.......2000-11-28
This is a good book to people who want to have an overview at a glance about call centers features and problems. But, according to new economy habits, it is not a technological issue. So, if many points are discussed, such as human resources, real estate, organisation, hardware and products, none of them is focused in a detailed way. It is surely a very good introduction to people starting a new job in call centers environments, but do not expect too much by readin it.
Product Description
This comprehensive Handbook provides a synthesis of current work and research in media management and economics. The volume has been developed around two primary objectives: assessing the state of knowledge for the key topics in the media management and economics fields; and establishing the research agenda in these areas, ultimately pushing the field in new directions. Edited by three well-known and widely published scholars, the Handbook is the definitive source for study in media management and economics. Its chapters are organized into parts addressing the theoretical components, key issues, analytical tools, and future directions for research. Each chapter offers the current state of theory and scholarship of a specific area of study, and the volume contributors--all well established in their areas of specialty--represent domestic and international scholarship. With its unparalleled breadth of content from expert authors, the Handbook provides background knowledge of the various theoretical dimensions and historical paradigms, and establishes the direction for the next phases of research in this growing arena of study. Standing alone as a thorough summary of existing theory and research, the Handbook of Media Management and Economics will serve to stimulate future thought and research in the media management and economics disciplines. As such, this volume will be a required reference for students, professors, and industry practitioners for years to come.

Increases Confidence.......2006-06-29
I know I probably should wait until I finished the book before I write a review, but I have gotten my money's worth already. I'm purchasing my first investment property and have tons of questions. As I read this book the cloud of uncertainty continues to clear and my confidence is increasing substantially. Knowledge is power and this book provides excellent information in an easy to read format. Plus it came with a CD of the forms you will need as a landlord. This was a plus because other books required an additional purchase from their website and the files are not even in common software format such as Microsoft Word. You also get additional access to other forms on the Socrates website with purchase of this book. Great on to add to the collection.

I'm a new landlord and this book has invaluable information for me. I can understand in easy terms what I've gotten myself into and also use it as a reference for the experiences to come. It would be a useful guide for new, existing and future landlords.

This book has everything I needed to know organized in an easy-to-understand format. The process of buying property isn't difficult, and this book spells out every single step.
Don't buy your first property without it!
