Praise for the Classic Guide to the Bond Market
"This is simply the most comprehensive, useful look-it-up book on municipal bonds I've ever read (said with all due respect to The ABC of Municipal Bonds my dad wrote in 1937 when I was nine). Read Fundamentals cover to cover. I'm keeping mine in my briefcase, under my arm, at my fingertips. No accountant, financial advisor, attorney, new bond salesman, reporter, regulator, test-writer, cautious, suspicious first-time investor in municipal bonds, or dinner guest is ever going to catch me again with a question about municipal bonds I can't answer."-Jim Lebenthal, Chairman, Lebenthal & Co.
"Judy Wesalo Temel gives us the Rosetta stone of the municipal bond market, the key to unraveling the many mysteries of `muni's.' Her book, a fresh take on the old standard Fundamentals of Municipal Bonds, updates chapter and verse on everything from investing to underwriting, from over-the-counter to over-the-Internet. The style is clean, crisp, and as simple as this complex subject can be. Are you a novice who wonders how to invest in bonds? She lays out the basics. Examples are easy to follow-even the mathematical ones that are critical to explaining how municipal bonds work. At the same time, there is plenty of meat for the pros. Whether you need to start from square one and learn all about municipal bonds and how they work, or need a ready reference for specific technical questions you run across as a market professional, this book is for you."-Kathleen Hays, Economics Editor, Credit Markets Reporter, and "Bond Belle" CNBC
"This is a must-read for every scholar, banker, and public official concerned with local government finance in the United States. Judy Wesalo Temel has done the impossible: she has clearly and insightfully explained how we finance the development of the nation's vital public infrastructure. This is an important book, one that will be required reading for professionals responsible for planning, designing, and evaluating publicly financed projects-the health care, transportation, and educational facilities that all citizens rely upon. The bond market is an essential element in the life of local and state government, and this book makes it understandable to all Americans."-Mitchell Moss, Henry Hart Rice Professor of Urban Planning and Director, Taub Urban Research Center, Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University

A very well written book........2001-04-11
After a few years in waiting, I am glad to see that the Bond Market Association has released the 5th addition of The Fundamentals of Municiple Bonds. The author of this book did a great job capturing the signifigance of the municiple bond, and exaplining it clearly with graphs and charts. I highly recomend this book and give it a 5 star rating.
WOW!.......2001-03-02
This book was amazing. Not only was it a great read (I couldn't put it down) but I learned more about derivatives and muni bonds in this book than i could have in any classroom or read in any other book on bonds.

This book was amazing. Not only was it a great read (I couldn't put it down) but it was also very informative. I learned more about derivatives in this book than I could have in any classroom or any other book on bonds.
Book Description
When used in conjunction with corporations, the term “public” is misleading. Anyone can purchase shares of stock, but public corporations themselves are uninhibited by a sense of societal obligation or strict public oversight. In fact, managers of most large firms are prohibited by law from taking into account the interests of the public in decision making, if doing so hurts shareholders. But this has not always been the case, as until the beginning of the twentieth century, public corporations were deemed to have important civic responsibilities.
With The Failure of Corporate Law, Kent Greenfield hopes to return corporate law to a system in which the public has a greater say in how firms are governed. Greenfield maintains that the laws controlling firms should be much more protective of the public interest and of the corporation’s various stakeholders, such as employees. Only when the law of corporations is evaluated as a branch of public law—as with constitutional law or environmental law—will it be clear what types of changes can be made in corporate governance to improve the common good. Greenfield proposes changes in corporate governance that would enable corporations to meet the progressive goal of creating wealth for society as a whole rather than merely for shareholders and executives.

Health Economics and Financing review.......2007-05-16
I am very happy with the purchase transaction. Delivery was speedy and as ordered. The book is easy to read and being used for a college course. Thanks
The perfect introduction to health care economics........1999-06-21
I wrote a paper on managed care competition for an economics course. This book proved invaluable. Without any previous knowledge of health economics, I was able to read, learn, and understand a fairly complex subject in a short amount of time using this book. The text covers everything but remains at an undergrad level. The arguments and examples are simple, clear, interesting, and easy to remember. I definitely found this to be the best introduction and overview to health economics, after having read six or seven books on the subject.

Book Description
This book contains economic experiments designed for students who have not previously taken any economics. While this book can supplement any microeconomics text, it can and has been used by itself to teach principles. Unique in the marketplace, EXPERIMENTS WITH ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES: MICROECONOMICS is an extension of the groundbreaking work in Experimental Economics of Vernon Smith. Bergstrom and Miller are two of the most highly-regarded researchers in the creative world of Experimental Economics. FEATURES 1. A new chapter on public goods (ch. 6). 2. A new chapter on network externalities (ch. 9). 3. A new Part V on essential concepts of economic principles. 4. More problems and tie-ins to economics in the news. 5. More discussion of economic concepts. 6. More modular organization for easy custom-publishing of instructor's own selection of experiments. 7. Streamlining some experiments. 8. Improved layout of homework exercises allows faster grading. 9. Improved layout of personal information sheets in Instructor's Manual. 10. Convenient class preparation kits for instructors. Engaging approach.......2006-07-28
I took a course that used this book (taught by one of the authors) to fulfill an economics core requirement. Since then, I have studied economics on my own and know that I have retained a lot of the information that I learned in that first introductory class. In contrast, I've forgotten much of what I learned in standard lecture-style courses. I disagree with the previous reviewer in that I think this book is great for a beginner. You may not learn all of the mainstream technical terms and how to do economic busywork, but it does a really good job of teaching key concepts: supply and demand, market vs. regulated prices, etc... Conceptual understanding is extremely important in any field, and encourages the student to think creatively. Most importantly, this book encourages learning and instills an interest in economics.
Experimental Economics ... not as cool as it sounds........2000-12-24
I had the fortune of being in an introductory economics class where the experimental approach along with this book is used. I already had lots of microeconomics background and scored a 5 on my AP micro and macro eco exam. I believe that experimental approach to economics, although can be interesting at times, is not suitable for students with little or no economics background. It is essential for students to have a solid grasp of important economic concepts such as marginal cost/revenue, opportunity cost, and the experimental approach lacks in that respect. I tried this course and this book, because I wanted a different angle on something I already knew, and I didn't get much out of it. If you're new to economics, and perhaps want to continue into more economics courses later on, this book/course is not the way. The chapters are no more than explanations of the experiments done in class. Very little reference material exists, and everything is over simplified. By the end of this book, students will not be able to draw the MC/MR/TR/TC curves for perfect competitions/monopoly/oligopoly/monopolistic competiton. I got an A in the course, not because the book was so helpful to me, but because I already knew the stuff before I even registered for the class.
Book Description
This text by one of Europe's leading economists covers a wide variety of public economics issues with great clarity and precision, illustrating them with a wealth of carefully-chosen examples and problems.
Starting from theories of general equilibrium analysis, Laffont considers issues of market failure, collective decisionmaking, and distributional equity. He analyzes the important informational and motivational problems involved in planning solutions for market failures, and provides a rigorous justification for the theoretical foundations of public economics.
Topics include the theories of externalities, public goods, collective choice, consumer surplus, cost-benefit analysis and/or theory of the second best, incomplete markets, and nonconvexities. For each Laffont begins with the classical foundations, moves on to consider the topic within a simple model of the economy, and concludes by integrating results from recent journal articles into this simple framework. In this way students are led to understand the classical tradition in the context of modern general equilibrium theory.
The book concludes with eight problems with solutions, each interesting and rich enough to be considered a case study, and nine exercises without solutions; together they provide an excellent review of material covered in the text. The basic approach in each problem is to set up a general equilibrium model, discover the market failure by calculating the unfettered equilibrium, and develop an explicit planning solution.
Jean-Jacques Laffont is Professor of Economics at the University of Social Sciences at Toulouse. Fundamentals of Economics may be used in either an advanced graduate-level course in public economics or in conjunction with a second volume forthcoming by the same author in a course in advanced microeconomics.

It concludes with suggestions for further research.

Book Description
Public sector orientations to planning, community and social development, or local economic development often overlook the money end of the project and focus almost exclusively on the social good. Unfortunately, plans do not materialize without money. This book takes a "hands-on" approach as it guides the reader through the steps of securing the funds necessary to meet community needs for cost effective services and facilities. It examines the fundamentals of financing local economic development from the perspectives of both the private and public sector. It shows how to link public community funding and private marketplace funding and describes how private development can incorporate community programs as an asset to a development project or programs. An easy read, the book includes numerous examples, eight real-world cases, a glossary of terms, and a model local economical development business plan.
