Seeker of Truth.......2007-07-26
I thought this book was an excellent resource for research into the origin of Christianity and the Bible. As one who has believed in Christ from an early age, I have, however, always wondered if the Bible is truly reliable for everything pertaining to life. The christian books and studies I have been involved in for years leaves no room for depth spiritually, of which I crave. This book has opened the door for expansion from the narrow views I have had thus far. The book is well written, the pictures are great, and the meaning the author gives for the images and what they represent was an amazing eye opener for me. I would refer this book to all who are thirsty for more spiritually. This is a good place to start.
Knowledge.......2007-05-12
This is a great book for anyone that wants to begin learning the history of the Black race as a whole. Even if you're well learned in the area, I still recommend this one to you. Buying it is a great investment. WARNING: It will challenge traditional Christianity's teachings.
LOVE THIS BOOK!!.......2006-08-08
This book has so much information on African history. EVERY AFRICAN AMERICAN or of African descent should READ this book and take it seriously. I would give this review 100 stars if I could. If you wanted to know something about your history, this book is a good place to start. Anthony Browder gives you a great deal of information about Egyptian (Kemetic) civilization.
This book gives you information on how the Kemets were the originators of astrology, sciences, mathematics, geometry, medicine, masonry, etc. Anthony also talks about the Bible and how the Kemetic people worshipped.
I am so glad that I purchased this book. I simply just LOVE this book and it will always be a part of my collection.

Excellent Book! Please add this to your libaray!.......2006-05-11
This is a good beginner book brothers and sisters that are beginning to learn more about our history.
The material in the book was written in very plain, common sense that the average person can learn and build on. This is a must for your libaray and good material for our children to learn about our rich history.
But this is only the begining for those who are in search for more light (knowledge).
Peace,
Mr. Orange in Miami, FL.......2006-03-20
As an African American male, I give a standing ovation to the contents of this book. Mr. Browder states, in very simplistic and understandable form, many of the contributions that the Ancient Africans have made modern civilizations all over the world. To any African American who wishes to know some about people from which they came, I highly recommend this book. TEACH THIS TO YOUR CHILDREN AS WELL!!!!!!!

As the population bulge of the Baby Boomer's children arrives at the teen years, publishers and librarians are scurrying to meet the radically different needs of the Net Generation. This collection of essays, talks, editorials, and rants by Marc Aronson are sure to dissipate inertia and frustration, even as they rejuvenate the perennially young at heart.

Book Description
Now in paperback, Barbara Seaman's groundbreaking book that blows the lid off the wholesale use of estrogen to treat menopause.
Over the last sixty years, millions women in the United States were prescribed estrogen, but did they know all there is to know about this powerful hormone? In this groundbreaking book, Barbara Seaman traces the history of estrogen use and misuse and investigates the pharmaceutical manufacturers who pushed aside any negative findings on estrogen to insinuate their products into the lives of women, old and young. Seaman turns up essential, often shocking, information that should have been part of public awareness but, only now, is coming to light.
Customer Reviews:
Seems Barbara Seaman was right all along.......2006-12-17
In a NYT article by Gina Kolata (12/15/06) Barbara Seaman's life long research and obsession were proven right. Breast cancer rates dropped 7% in 2003 - a year when many women stopped taking estrogen after a stude showed that estrogen created a small increase in breast cancer .
This book provides a detailed and amazing history of hormone products. It is written with a normal person in mind. No medical background is necessary. Barbara seems to make the medical jargon easy to understand.
For any woman it is an interesting read, and a necessary one.
Estrogen Myth.......2006-08-11
I think anyone reading this book would appreciate the indepth research and Barbara's long legacy in the area of women's health.
Then I would keep the following in mind:
- hormones are primarily the result of life processes, not their cause. A healthy female body will produce the amount of estrogen best suited to her constitution. External estrogen "success" is merely based on the 'high' provided versus any real correction of the female hormonal status or balance.
- hormonal substitution or augmentation is (at best) a crude method of furnishing the desired hormones. It is impossible to supply the hormones at the natural rate of grandular secretion, or to know exactly what secretions need augmentation in order to balance the entire female endocrine system.
- there is no discussion of the nutritional toll external estrogens have on the body, thus further reducing female reproductive health and hormonal balance.
I think its safe to say estrogen produced by a healthy female body is not the problem here - per Ms. Seaman synthetic estrogens are, additionally I would say because bio-identical estrogen (balanced or not) still provide an artifical interference with the wisdom of the body, in no way provide for the corrective production of hormonal status or balance, and would also be a problem.
But women should read Ms. Seaman's information and then judge for themselves whether the medical community has provided the whole story or even an accurrate one to support the practice of prescribing hormones (synthetic or bio-identical).
Only part of the whole picture.......2005-10-17
In The Greatest Experiment Ever Performed on Women, Barbara Seaman aptly describes how hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has been given to women for decades in spite of mounting evidence of the detrimental effects on a woman's body. She goes into painstaking detail of how women have been wrongly led to believe that HRT would restore the hormones their ovaries once made. She aptly points out how estrogen out of balance with other ovarian hormones is unhealthy. Unfortunately, she does not discuss that estrogen in balance in with testosterone and progesterone is a healthy balance.
Ms. Seaman does not discuss bio-identical hormones.......2005-03-26
Although I agree with much of what Ms. Seaman writes about synthetic estrogen, (made from mares' urine,) and progestin, (synthetic progesterone), I strongly disagree that all estrogen is potentially "dangerous" to the female body. (Pls. see Dr. Uzzi Reiss's comments on bio-identical estrogen in his wonderful book, Natural Hormone Balance for Women, in which he, (Dr. Reiss), states:
"Currently estrogen is "under attack" as a major risk factor in the epidemic of breast cancer. I find this ludicrous. Estrogen is the hormone that distinguishes women's unique gender. After 2 million yrs. of human evolution, could the female hormone suddently have turned into a serial killer? Would nature suddenly decide to create a one-gender species? Of course not. Incriminating estrogen is as logical as saying that your liver is the cause of liver cancer." (p. 28 of Dr. Reiss's book). I thoroughly agree with Dr. Reiss. I, (along with something like 70% of women in menopause), had terrible symptoms of insomnia, lack of energy, lethargic depression, muscle/joint pain, and minor anxiety. It took me two yrs. of physical symptoms to finally discover bio-identical estrogen, and I consider it a "lifesaver." It has literally given me back my sense of who I was before menopause. Within 1-1/2 hrs. of taking the hormone, I became in control of my mind and mood again, regained my stamina, slept better than I had in 2 yrs., and within a few days started to lose the excess wt. I had gained. My recommendation is that in addition to Ms. Seaman's book, readers might like to read Dr. Reiss's book, (from a purely clinician point-of-view,), rather than just a political one. Hooray for Tri-Est!! (name of the bio-identical estrogen formula I used).
Regain confidence in your intuition.......2004-12-28
Barbara Seaman's work is a women's must read because it encourages women to take complete ownership of their health and bodies.
Seaman details story after story of why women should question their doctors and pharmaceutical companies. From taking drugs that destroyed their babies to taking cancer provoking concoctions, women have served as uninformed guinea pigs for years.
Accordingly, Seaman gives women a reason to say "No" to new drugs and new therapies that promise to make our lives easier in the ever popular crusade to ease "woman problems".
The female physique is inundated with mystique. That which is not understood faces constant scrutiny and treacherous attacks. Seaman sends a message loud and clear to all women- Take control of your own health because there are thousands of people out willing and waiting to experiment with your well-being while hailing promises of new found youth and renewed vigor.
I suggest your cross read The Greatest Experiment Ever Performed on Women with Uzzi Reiss' Natural Hormone Balance for Women. Reiss claims that estrogens have a "bad" rap because studies such as those covered by Seaman only address synthetic hormones or those derived from horses. I did not find Reiss' arguments compelling, it just offered another view of the women's hormone scene.
Book Description
Reclaiming Our Health is best-selling author John Robbins biggest and most important book to date. Elaborately researched and fluidly written, Reclaiming Our Health is a provocative and crystal-clear commentary on one of the most complex issues facing America todaynational health care. In an epic look at the human and financial consequences of the polarization of traditional and alternative medicine, John Robbins calls for nothing short of a revolution in the basic beliefs on which traditional health care is provided.
Robbins has written a masterpiece that will be as popular with people unhappy with the medical establishment as Diet for a New America is with critics of the meat industry. Although we spend $1 trillion each year on health care, the toll in human suffering from degenerative disease continues to rise and many in our country cannot afford basic health care. Meanwhile, women are growing increasingly frustrated with the care they receive from a male-dominated system; and the incidence of dangerous communicable diseases is growing.
There are answers to these problems and the myriad others that we face, but the dogmatic and monopolistic beliefs held by modern medicine are preventing us from finding the. Reclaiming Our Health presents a brilliant, refreshing, and uplifting new vision of what health care might be.

A Heartbreaking Look at Modern Medicine.......2007-08-21
I have been a "health nut" for years and wary of the medical establishment, but I always hoped that the mainstream approaches, though ineffective, were a result of ignorance or narrow mindedness.
In Reclaiming Our Health, John Robbins has exposed the greed and pride of a male-dominated medical community in bed with the pharmaceutical companies. Reading about the witch hunts (past and present) against alternative healing practices outrages me, but what hurts more is reading how modern medicine treats its patients. People, at their most vulnerable times, are trampled upon by doctors and nurses.
The section on how medicine has historically regarded women is eye opening (or would be if you had never dealt with a male obstetrician). Having just given birth to my son, accompanied by a midwife, and knowing what an amazing and challenging time that can be, I almost cried reading the horror stories of children's births.
John Robbins has written a phenomenal book. And as always, he has brought his caring, compassionate passion to an issue that is literally crippling our nation. Thank you, John.
I thoroughly recommend this book.......2003-09-08
I read this book first in sections, but then decided to read the whole thing as my interest progressed.
I already knew some of the persecution of the chiropractic industry by money-hungry conventional doctors, but some of the stuff totally shocked me. I've seen some of the statistics that chiropractors have come up with, extensive studies that show that it has extremely low health risks and helps a lot more with lower back pain than conventional "give me the pill" medicine. However, this book totally blew the cover off the...American Medical Association, an organization I once took for granted to be dedicated to my health and well-being.
If everyone in the waiting room of a doctor's clinic were to read this book, all health care in America would be for the better.
Furthermore, the interesting sections on women and fertility totally blew me away. I was furious at the stuff they were doing to hurt and control women who went to doctors for real health reasons, hoping to get better, only to be subjected to the standard system of running tests and being tied to one position. I myself was delivered by C-section, and having been abandoned by my mother, I can also attest to the ugly and disgusting nature of conventional birth documented so well by John Robbins. The persecution of midwives, who have near-flawless records for safe delivery of newborn babies was also shocking. I had no idea that women giving birth at home do better than in hospitals, in terms of mortality rates.
The final section is worth reading alone if you have cancer. It states very clearly using facts and actual experiences how deliberately and unfortunately the medical establishment has been "treating" people (if I may use that word) with cancer, without realizing that the only goal of a person with illness is wellness and wholeness, not merely to eradicate and destroy an organism that seems foreign and toxic. It also exposes the "fact" that there have been cancer treatments with possible cures, existing for decades, which have been blocked by the cancer establishment out of hope for conventional therapies, blind ignorance, or fear of malpractice suits (you can be sued for not using "technology" to treat an illness ... but what if you just want to get better?).
The beauty of John Robbins' words inspire me. It's hard not to be moved by good stories of good doctors helping to make things better. It's hard not to believe that things could also be better if we changed our current system. Always true to form, this book discusses ways in which to reform health care that would truly work, and at minimal cost.
If you're a nonbeliever of universal health care, low-cost medicine, or just out of luck with personal illness, I highly recommend this book.
Read This Book BEFORE You or Someone You Love Becomes Ill.......2003-08-28
Over the past thirty years I have read about 100 books on the subject of health. Among the very best of the books I have read are two of John Robbins' other books, Diet for a New America and The Food Revolution, but I don't feel the need to review these remarkable books; they have been well reviewed by others, and I recommend you check them both out in Amazon. However, I simply had to add my voice to the reviews of Reclaiming Our Health.
This book is predominantly about the medical establishment, what has gone wrong with it, and what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones (if you can get them to listen to you). It is not a condemnation of all things conventional nor an endorsement of all things alternative. Some of the greatest heroes of the book are M.D.'s practicing both conventional and alternative therapies. This book seeks to guide us to the best of both worlds while warning us about the dangers to be found in each. However, the worst dangers by far appear to be in the conventional medical establishment where the admonition "first, do no harm" seems to have been long forgotten.
This book made me cry. This book infuriated me. It is filled with one outrage after another. But wouldn't you rather read about them than be subjected to them (or watch your loved ones be subjected to them) by not being informed beforehand? I know I would.
This is one of those rare books that is truly empowering. That's what John Robbins does so well. He does the intensive research that most of us neither would nor could do. We are blessed by his enormous contribution to mankind.
And my fellow women, you will be shocked to read some of the material in this book on how women have been treated in society and how this has influenced the way we have been treated by much of the medical community. I have shared a bit of the information with co-workers and have actually seen jaws drop open. We have not been told the complete story of how dreadfully many women have been treated in our history. It is an abomination. (Written with apologies to all of the sincerely wonderful men out there.)
Rest assured that among the very bad news of this book is a good deal of hopeful news about prevention and treatments that are out there now, but this information will probably be a long time coming to the general public. It is only through leaders like John Robbins that we are blessed to know about it now.
Read this book before you or someone you love becomes ill. Read it and pass it on.
10 stars Articulate accurate and timely.......2003-04-20
Since I own and have read other books the author has written I was curious to see what he would share in this book on a subject that is so important to me and many Americans. And he certainly hasn't let me down.
The parts or chapters I liked so much and thank the author for, from the bottom of my heart are Part Two where he goes into great detail about the patriarchal medical system. It is worth the price of the book alone. I also like Part Three where he starts out with a quote from a signer of the Declaration of Independence (Dr Benjamin Rush) who said "Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize itself into an undercover dictatorship". And he offers so much documentation of where and how the big boys of the AMA (American Medical Association) have even gone after their own members who dared not walk the party line. On page 185 he shares how from homeopaths, to midwives, and other nontraditional medical forms, the AMA has been the bully boys who wanted their monopoly and none others. On page 1996 onward he describes once again how the feminine professions which nursing was up until the 1970's, were main targets of the male member run AMA.
Now I was aware that one way the male physicians made midwifery which had been the norm well into the 1900's, illegal was to accuse the women delivering babies of being everything from witches, pagans and even communists. Yet delivering babies in the safe and secure environment had been good enough for Moses, Jesus, George Washington and most heroes and heroines but because the AMA had discovered there was big buck in babies they did everything in their power to make their way the only way to deliver babies and feather their nest along the way. And as the author notes on page 322 that while birthing centers and midwives are persecuted by the AMA the actual cesarean rate here in the United States is outrageous and is a procedure that the rest of the civilized world shuns.
On page 327 onward the author skillfully lays out documentation that shows that many of the plagues the world has suffered have not been cured by AMA style medicine but by common sense approaches like clean water and sanitary toilet system. Washing hands and handling food in a clean manner. And that malaria is kept at bay with more preventive means than medical ones.
I could go on, but I would prefer that you buy the book and if possible buy a copy for your local library if it does not have a copy. That is how important this book is.
Everyone should read this book..........2002-12-20
"Reclaiming Our Health" is turning out to be one of the most influential books in my life, and I plan on giving every woman in my life a copy for Christmas this year.
Robbins explodes the myths and outright lies surrounding conventional medicine, alternative medicine, the American Medical Association, the tobacco industry and cancer research. And he doesn't just make wild accusations, he supports his work with a library of footnotes (some of which I've followed up on) and studies. I am honestly stunned and amazed at the horrible decisions made by America's medical community - shunning and destroying alternative approaches over the years, unleashing scare" campaigns to keep us supporting conventional medicine (and our doctors' wallets) and ignoring crucial medical data from alternative sources.
Did you know that the American Medical Association used to be a huge supporter of the tobacco industry & even while our Surgeon General had proof that smoking was horrible for you, they still refused to speak out against smoking... because then they would lose the financial support of the industry (and this didn't just go on for a year or two)? Did you know that chemotherapy & radiation, for most forms of cancer, do absolutely nothing in terms of life-span (sometimes even shortening it)? Did you know that infant mortality rates in the U.S. are higher than most developed, and even some "3rd World" countries, and that most C-sections & hysterectomies are completely unnecessary? Or that midwives have a much better track record (for infant mortality & complications), yet the AMA basically outlawed their use over the past 30 years?
Honestly - I think every single American, especially women and those in medical fields should read this book. It's not a conspiracy theory book, nor is it some crazy person spewing accusations at everyone - it is a brutally honest look at OUR HEALTH, and what is more important?

Earth-Shaking Paradigm Shift from a Very Prominent Biologist.......2004-10-28
Ruth Hubbard is a professor emerita of biology at Harvard and a member of the Council for Responsible Genetics, a prominent national bioethics board. In this book (co-written with her son-in-law, Elijah Wald), she takes everything you think you know about genes, genetic health care screening, DNA fingerprinting, the Human Genome Project, and the search for a gay gene and other behavior-related genes, and blows your mind by explaining, point by point, exactly how unreliable, meaningless, and discriminatory each of these much-lauded technologies is. After reading this book, you'll never read a newspaper article about the latest genetic study the same way again. Don't miss it.
Rhetoric Against a Needed Science.......2001-11-18
Ruth Hubbard uses the rhetoric of exaggeration to try to convince us to abandon genetic research. But if genes didn't matter then monkeys could talk and if environment didn't matter then we wouldn't have schools. Obviously they BOTH matter.
Let us use the objective methods of science to document the specifics of what is genetically determined and what is environmentally determined.
Any serious AIDS researcher knows that without genetic research we have no chance of defeating AIDS. Obviously we need to study genetics to maintain progress against disease.
A brilliantly written book.......1999-10-28
Dr. Hubbard gives her readers much to think about, and she backs up everything she's written. She explains how the popularly-held reductionist view of genetics does not tell the whole story. Her book explains how the public often only hears one side of the story when it comes to the potential of the latest genetic technologies.
The work of a good scientist, an abysmal social commentator.......1999-08-29
Hubbard does deserve credit for throwing some skepticism on "the next big thing" in science, genetic technology. Unfortunately, she combines her skeptical analysis with her hopelessly egalitarian political views, obscuring any positive contributions this book could have. Hubbard goes through every expected cliche - Nazi imagery (social pundits never tire of this), playing the "race card, and discouraging scientific progress as "unneccessary". Read this book only if you wish to glimpse the future of awful politically-correct rhetoric.
The author breaks ranks to reveal the truth about genetics........1998-10-02
A 5-star book. If there weren't so much hype about gene therapy there would be no need for this book. But bad science and misinformation coming from those with commercial or political interests has given the American public the idea that gene therapy has possibilities. To date, gene therapy has not cured one disease. Ruth Hubbard finally breaks ranks to reveal the truth about genetics.
Book Description
Cate Bramble has devoted her career to highlighting the differences between 'feng shui-lite' as a fashionable pursuit in contrast to the original intentions of the Chinese masters. Here she presents the authentic principles in a technical, no-nonsense pocket book specifically for architects.
As clients become more demanding and the competition for projects heats up, the architect is well advised to have many strings to their bow. This practical guide includes line illustrations that present the principles of feng shui, the Chinese art or practice in which a structure or site is chosen or configured so as to harmonize with the spiritual forces that inhabit it, and their application in architecture through planning principles, services, building elements and materials, in an accessible, easy reference format. The feng shui-savvy architect can also benefit from feng shui's ability to match structures and land, and the peculiar capacity of authentic feng shui to forecast development-related concerns including cost overruns, quality issues - even worker injuries and trade disputes!
The author explains feng shui from archaeological sources and evidence of practice in the east, contrasting it with what passes for feng shui in the west. She analyses the practice in terms of such concepts as western systems theory, viewshed, space syntax and the 'pattern landscape' theory of urban planning. For the first time, the Sustainable implications of feng shui design are explained with reference to the latest developments in behavioural and cognitve sciences, evolutionary biology and other western viewpoints.
* The first 'how to' guide on feng shui specifically written for architects
* Contains numerous technical illustrations to define and analyse the genuine design elements of feng shui, for quick and easy reference
* Supplies knowledge of the scientific, ethical and ecological principles of the original Chinese system, to impress your clients

Building Professionals Beware!.......2007-08-24
If you are an architect, designer, or other building professional looking for a guide to feng shui, something that will help you incorporate the principles of feng shui into your daily work, this is NOT the book for you!
This book is little more than a sophistic exercise devoted to convincing building professionals that the mysteries of feng shui are so deep, a "professional" must be hired; it's purpose is NOT to guide them through the principles so that they can use them on a daily basis.
I was deeply disappointed that I had purchased nothing more than 200+ pages of sophistic argument devoted to convincing me that an understanding of feng shui was beyond the reach of those of us who had not devoted our lives to monastic studies of its fathomless mysteries.
