Did this book even have an editor?.......2006-10-21
There may be useful information in this text, but it's hard to trust anything that's so poorly written.
Page 32: ". . . the answer to each question is provided by one of financial statements."
Page 42: "Investment activities include such as purchasing, financing . . ."
I noticed an average of one error per page, although this seemed to get better as I read past the third chapter. (Maybe I just lost the ability to tell!) Now, I haven't noticed any substantive errors, but it's quite possible that one of the frequent mistakes in language caused the meaning of a sentence to change. In addition, the errors are just distracting! Imagine reading along, and not being able to get through a single page without doing a double-take because a sentence doesn't scan. And I'm not even trying to proof-read, just trying to understand the text!
All that being said, this seems to be a thorough treatment of the subject, and I guess I can infer that my professor thinks the content is reliable. But this text reads like a product manual that's been poorly translated from another language!
Very Good........2003-06-23
This is an excellent text for an engineering economics class. It concisely explains and demonstrates basic ideas and financial concepts in a logical manner. The only draw back I could detect was the author's nomemclature, which he introduces at the first of the text. If you don't memorize it early on, it becomes difficult to understand quickly. The professor who taught the Engineering Economics class I took was none other than Chan Park himself (guess what the required text was!).

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

A "must have" for design/manufacturing engineers.......2000-02-12
I teach Product Design Engineering at Ohio State and I can honestly say that Bralla is absolutely the best single reference for working designers and manufacturing engineers that I've found. An incredible compendium of useful info on just about any manufacturing process you can think of, and plenty you HAVEN'T thought of, plus chapters on Design for Assembly, materials, economic considerations - you name it. The book is a bit pricey, but considering the amount of useful information packed into it, it's a steal. Bralla far exceeds McGraw-Hill's regrettably low standards for their handbooks - this one is a keeper!

Useful to the student and the professional.......2007-08-19
Just as engineers must accurately model technical solutions to a problem, they must also model the economic impact of those technical solutions. This is a very good book for both the engineering student and the practicing engineer. Unlike many texts on straight economics, it is not just filled with narrative. It has many well-explained formulas and examples using those formulas throughout. The numerous exercises included throughout the book involve open-ended problem statements and iterative problem-solving skills, which are the real-world skills you'll need on the job. Various engineering disciplines are presented. FE exam-style questions have been added to help prepare engineering students for that milestone examination. Passing the FE exam is a first step in getting licensed as a "Professional Engineer" or PE. A good companion to this book is the Schaum's Outline on Engineering Economics. This is one of those textbooks where having the latest edition is really better, since the laws of finance are man-made and do change over time. The following is the table of contents for the latest edition:
FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGINEERING ECONOMY.
1. Introduction to Engineering Economy.
2. Cost Concepts and Design Economics.
3. Money-Time Relationships and Equivalence.
4. Applications of Money-Time Relationships.
II. ENGINEERING ECONOMY IN ACTION.
5. Applications of Money-Time Relationships.
6. Comparing Alternatives.
7. Depreciation and Income Taxes.
8. Price Changes and Exchange Rates.
9. Replacement Analysis.
10. Dealing with Uncertainty.
III. ADDITIONAL TOPICS IN ENGINEERING ECONOMY.
11. Evaluating Projects with the Benefit/Cost Ratio Method.
12. Engineering Economy Studies in Investor-Owned Utilities.
13. Probabilistic Risk Analysis.
14. Capital Financing and Allocation.
15. Dealing with Multiattributed Decisions.
Appendixes.

I first used this book as a student-I found it useful then, today I insist that all managers reporting to me review, and use, the concepts and techniques provided by the authors.
The book is useful, in that concepts are well explained, the examples are relevant, but most important for me is that it provides managers who have little or no experience in determining project costs with a handy means (including formulae and worked examples) of doing so.
I have tried to get copies of the most recent edition, the popularity seems to be such that the book is sold out. I most readily recommend this to anyone who needs to justify capital expenditure, who needs to do project costing, and who has to prepare proposals for submission to the boss (or the board of directors)in order to obtain funds for capital expansion, refurbishment or simply equipment upgrades.

Excellent Concepts.......2004-05-04
While there is no disagreeing that this book is written at an advanced level, it does clearly present key concepts that are often difficult to understand apart from each other. I used a newer version of this book in Merino's class, and it really is the best book in its class.
Some of the more complex topics like multi-attribute analysis and risk management are presented well. After-tax analysis is not presented in as much depth as I would have liked, but after going through the examples the topic becomes clear.
Overall this book is excellent. It is a must read for those aspiring to go into management or get an MBA one day.
This book does not live up to its name!.......1998-06-21
Having used the book in the course taught by Merino, I have noticed that the examples given at the end of each chapter are erroneous in nature. Many a time, I have found that the book lacks the basic elements of engineering economics. This book is definitely not for undergraduates.

Ridiculous.......2007-01-21
I think there is probably a chance that this is the most poorly written textbook I've ever encountered.
I was going to hold off giving it a bad review until I got through the class, but at this rate I'm not even totally sure I will. I've just re-read the difference between nominal and effective interest for (no hyperbole) the 10th time, and I'm no closer to understanding it. Bad examples, useless derivations, poor explaining. I only wish I could give it a zero.
Helped me earn an A.......2006-10-15
I don't understand where all of the negative reviews are coming from. The 6th edition of this textbook was used in my Financial Aspects of Engineering class my final semester. Officially it is a 400 level course, but in reality it is more like a 200 level course. I literally skipped half of the lectures (remember, it was my final semester) and still earned an A in the class. I think grades were based on a bell curve like most engineering courses, so it's not like everyone received an A. Since I missed so many lectures, I had to rely very heavily on the textbook to learn the material.
I sold the book after the course was over to get some quick cash, but I'm regretting it. I can't remember anything now, and the subject matter of this textbook is starting to be more relevant in my personal and professional lives, so I'm going to buy it again. I highly recommend it as a reference and introduction to real world economic and financial problems.
"How to make a good student want to drop out of college".......2006-06-19
As someone who loves to learn, this is the most incomplete, illogically written textbook I've ever encountered. As a disclaimer, usually I have better things to do than review books online for complete strangers, but thankfully I can vent here, or I may have been compelled to use it to shatter my living room window, which wouldn't be good.
At best, it meanders back and forth between actual formulas and their complementary Excel formulas, which leaves the reader wondering why they should learn the real thing when Excel can do it for them anyway; but its Excel teachings follow the incomplete style of the book, so there's little chance of improving your Excel skills either. To be fair, on page 671 it lets you in on a brilliant secret: that you can obtain help from Excel by "left-clicking" on the help bar...but even fails to mention the F1 key...par for the course!
At worst, the questions at the end of each chapter (which affect ones GPA and entire future) vary just enough with the examples in the chapter, that it is impossible for the student to solve them without using outside means, like contacting the professor 24/7 which I may have to.
If you think I'm being unfair or have any bias, I'll put it to you this way: Suppose you had never driven a car before, and I wrote a book on how to open the door, turn the key, put it in drive, etc. and then gave you an exam on how to rebuild the engine.
I'm so disgusted with this book, I'd rather be spending this semester in North Korea, where I'd definitely learn more.
Horrible Book.......2006-02-01
This book doesn't explain anything. It just shows a bunch of formulas and doesn't give any hint about when and how to use them one. One of the worst textbooks I've encountered in college (and I'm in my last semester). I wholeheartedly agree with all the negative feedback.
A comprehensive and easy going book! .......2005-09-19
This text is superb. It contains the basic principles of the economic analysis for its application in decision take process, with a conscientious and dynamic presentation of ever chapter, carefully designed with appropriate problems that permit to capture the real essence of the whole containment.
