I've been selling on ebay since July 2005. Part time. I've read 8 books on ebay. This is one of the Best. I have not had time to use the info in it. But have tried to impliment some of the tips. It is full of great ideas and sources of the kind of information one needs to be successful on ebay. I highly recommed it.

5 out of 5 stars And I thought I knew a lot about Ebay.........2006-04-11

I have been selling on Ebay for over 2 years. But after reading this book I realize how little I knew about marketing my product. This little gem contains very valuable information about making the most out of Ebay's competitive marketplace. This book is interesting to read and gives clear step by step instructions for changes you can make to Market your Ebay items. Like I said, I thought I knew a lot about Ebay but I was surprised by how much I learned from this book!

5 out of 5 stars It should be called: 8 essential steps.......2006-02-22

Buying this book should deffinitely be one of your steps on your road to eBay success. One page at a time, I am getting there...only about a month with eBay selling and I, put up a store front, created my about me page, customized my settings for invoices and emails to customers, and made over $400 dollars in sales...not bad for a rookie just getting through the details. Hope it will flow smoother once all the details are out of the way. [...]

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Good info.......2007-05-29

Excellent and informative book. A couple of items I questioned, but overall well worth the purchase! Good for beginners AND advanced users (like me 10+ years selling on the web).

2 out of 5 stars Maybe good for beginners.......2007-05-07

I was disappointed in this book. As the previous reviewer indicated, you were led to believe that the book was based on the experience of internet experts, but that was obviously not the case. I would hesitate to even offer this book to someone new to internet business.

3 out of 5 stars Good for beginners.......2007-04-02

This book is written in 'coaching-style' which is not for everyone! 'Remember you have to'...'What do you think is'...'It is all about'...Don't forget to..., those phrases made it for me hard to read, as I expected new information and not to be taught constantly. I expected the authors were internet-insiders, what the title suggested - but I can't see that. If you are familiar with the basics of internet marketing look for something else, if you are a total newcomer go for this easy to read book.

4 out of 5 stars Thank you for making the online maze understandable!!!.......2007-01-12

I've learned quite a bit and it is truly an ESSENTIAL book for website owners. This is not a "techie" type manual and the authors make it easy to understand the inner workings of the website/blogging game. It's not so scary and overwhelming afterall! Thanks!

5 out of 5 stars Review from an Experienced Marketing Manager w/ an MBA.......2002-03-14

This book is a must read for any Executive through manager in a company that is entertaining a CRM implementation. The book covers many helpful hints and constructs that will help save time, money, and human capital. In today's business climate of collaborative solutions pitched by the major competitors (SAP, Siebel, PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards, etc.), many of their software offerings, solutions, and web sites are geared from their perspective. It's not too hard to get lost in all of their jargon. This book shows the other side--from an business point of view--to implementing a knowledge CRM business strategy. The book covers how to evaluate people for the team and progress throughout the project. The tables throughout the book are outstanding as they compare, contrast, list critical success factors, metric measurement, audit questions and methods, etc.

Book Description

Search Marketing Strategies focuses on how to make the most from the search engine industry. Concentrating on the strategic element rather than the procedural approach, the author demonstrates how to adapt the tactical techniques, such as paid search, site side optimization and analytics packages, into search strategies in order to achieve marketing or corporate objectives such as branding, sales and customer acquisition.

* Focuses on search marketing strategy rather than search optimization
* Acts as a toolkit for adapting tactical techniques into search strategies
* Written for marketers, therefore the consideration of the topic of search is wholly relevant for the marketing function

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars concise about branding and bidding for search terms.......2006-01-18

This book might be compared to a recent one by Moran and Hunt, "Search Engine Marketing". Colborn's text is a little more concise. He aims it at a marketing reader, whereas the other book was also directed to someone who knew HTML. Colborn skips any discussion of how to write actual HTML pages in a way suited for search engines to rank well. Instead, he talks more on branding your site and isolating useful words and phrases associated with it, that users might ask a search engine about.

There is also a quick runthrough of bidding strategies on various search engines. Well, realistically, only Google and Yahoo matter. The bidding is for those words and phrases that you defined in your branding.

3 out of 5 stars Good overview for starting search marketing. Needs meat........2005-12-02

PROS:

- Covers the broad spectrum of topics related tto search marketing. Includes terms, vendors, technology, fraud issues, metrics, and glossary. Mostly focused on paid search strategy, terms and tactics.
- Brings you up to the level of strategy and down to the level of tactical implementation of pay for performance tactics.
- If I were starting a position in Search enginge marketing, this would be the book to read. It's like sitting down with an expert teaching me the job of search engine marketing. Great for newbies or executives to get a comprehensive overview.
- If you need to "speak the language" of search engine marketing and be conversant in strategies and tactics, this is the book for you.

CONS

- Would love to see more `insider' tips and case studies. For that, go to MarketingSherpa.com.
- Could be organized better. Didn't flow for me.
- Good overview, but not a lot of information about natural search engine optimization.
- Overpriced at $37

This book gives businesspeople the know-how they need to do business on the Net. Author Larry Chase divides the book into two parts: one for using the Net within your business and the other for marketing it on the Net. Chase shares his extensive experience, offering solid advice to help even a novice approach the Net with savvy.

In short order, Chase shows you how to integrate the Net into your business, using Net services to cut costs and get information fast. He displays dozens of ways to reduce overhead, from sending faxes over the Net to distributing documents by e-mail instead of print. An excellent chapter lists the finer points of using the Net to locate and recruit employees. The book also features the best ways to make use of the Net's information gold mine, including how to gather corporate intelligence on your competitors. The author thoughtfully presents ways to keep yourself anonymous while looking at the competition.

It becomes clear that the author is a seasoned professional when he describes how to bring your business to the Web and how to market it. He advises you to avoid the temptation of spam and to keep the splashy graphics on your Web pages to a minimum. He also addresses sales support, public relations, selling retail, promotions, and more. The book ends with a dozen useful closing tips. --Elizabeth Lewis

    3 out of 5 stars Don't expect too much.......2001-07-01

The book is useful, but very basic. If you are a true web nerd ;-), you probably already know most of the stuff in this book. It's still worth reading it, but don't expect too much.

5 out of 5 stars This guy knows his stuff! And he can tell it!.......2000-06-12

What an education can be found in this book! Larry Chase, already well known in the field, has written THE book to have on web strategies. Forget all those Johnny-come-lately web books out there, whether you're B2B or B2C, this book is 4U! I think it's incredibly clear, well-written and presents timeless strategies in an easy-to-use manner. Wow!

5 out of 5 stars Implements strong marketing principles relevant to the net!.......1999-10-28

No whiz-bang gen-x mindset stuff here. Useful easy to understand business and marketing practices that are current and relevant to the net. This book will give you a practical and educational edge. Definately useful, easy reading helps too.

4 out of 5 stars Very good, especially for business folks new to the net!.......1999-10-25

Chase is obviously savvy and yet writes in a style easily assimilated by the novice. Perhaps his use of novice Nancy Hangar aided him in his "beginner-friendly" approach.

5 out of 5 stars Chase Packs Net Mktg Expertise in New Book.......1999-08-09

Larry Chase's email newsletter, Web Digest for Marketers, has long been an essential read for both experts and newcomers to e-business. His new book does an excellent job of packaging his expertise on the complex and fast-chaning topic of selling and marketing online. As the author of a popular book on the subject myself -- Net Results: Web Marketing That Works -- I appreciate the clarity of Larry's insights about the Net's power for competitive research, customer data mining, promotions and more.

This book came to me in great condition and the sender sent it extremely fast. The sender was kind and considerate and ensured that I recieved the book. I am very happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good Book.......2003-08-07

The Book gives the best insight for Information systems and its application to the real world. I congratulate the authors for this. I am reading the B.Sc. in Business and Computing at the University of Malta and I have successfully done two assignments and two exams on informatuion systems. The Help I got from this book is great and it is like having the tutor at home.

      1 out of 5 stars Not recommended..........2003-07-26

Did not like format of book and added-value from web-site is minimal. A study guide or comprehensive chapter outlines would be helpful - neither are available.

4 out of 5 stars Essentials of Management Information Systems by Laudon.......2003-07-18

I've taught approximately 34 sections of collegiate courses
including MIS, Law, Economics, Accounting, Statistics and
College Algebra. This text is a good general introduction
into the area of MIS. It explains basic definitions and
provides an organizational hierarchy or framework for
strategic systems, MIS, Knowledge-based systems and
artificial intelligence, operational systems etc. It is a
good introduction to MIS because students need an overall
framework to apply the technology. They cannot get this
framework from computer programming alone. The Laudon text
provides many diagrams, system flow charts, CD-ROM
supplements and a plethora of meaningful learning tools.
At the end of the work, the author includes a number of
fairly complicated case studies which provide random
operational facts which students must organize utilizing
the MIS technology taught in the Laudon text. My students
did well in the course and enjoyed the rigorous presentation.
This text is not for the mediocre student. It is geared
for the B or better student.

2 out of 5 stars Quick scan on everything related to MIS and computing.......2002-06-20

I read this book in order to find essentials of enterprise information systems (ERP, document management) explained to be useful for under-graduate students. This book however discusses everything related to computers and just covers lots of individual subjects without getting deep enough in any of them. The result is a mess that lacks focus. For university use this book handles things too generally. It also contains inaccuracies of some techniques explained which shouldn't be the case on textbooks. Some problems are certainly due to the fast development in IT industry and this books too large focus to have current facts right. This book is useful only to people with no prior knowledge of computers and information systems as an introduction to what all there is. Then they can buy books with proper focus individual subjects to really learn these things. I'd hate to work as an engineer in a company run by business people with MIS knowledge only according to this book.

1 out of 5 stars Don't be misguided by the Title.......2001-02-18

I thought this book is on investing on stocks in the internet. It is not. It is mostly a theoritical book talking about "internet stocks". It was not even clear to me what he meant by the internet stocks. I am sorry to rate it as single star. I am returning this book because it does not serve my purpose.

4 out of 5 stars A new type of stock requires new evaluation techniques.......2000-08-15

There is a new type of stock on the market, the Internet stock, which are unlike any other type of stock. You need new evaluation methods and analytical techniques to evaluate their potential and risk. In his book, the author gives you ideas on how to analyze Internet stocks.

5 out of 5 stars The Straight Dope.......2000-06-07

After a few spectacular boom-and-bust cycles it has become clear to most sensible observers that Internet stocks are real, and will be an essential part of the economy in the future, but also that many highly-touted stocks are terrible investments. The old accounting rules and valuation theories don't apply, but the new rules don't work any better. Companies founded and backed by people who were yesterday's success stories end up tomorrow's disasters. Other companies that break all the rules hit it big. Finally there is a book that offers every investor practical guidance on how to separate winners from losers. This isn't one of those play-it-safe books that tells you to look for companies so perfect you'll never find one; Professor Newton understands that you are buying Internet stocks to win big, and therefore have to take the chance of losing big. But this is also a book that takes risk seriously, and steers the reader away from the insubstantial stocks without sound business models. The book assumes nothing but some common sense, yet teaches an investment discipline that is every bit as professional as you will find anywhere on Wall Street or in Silicon Valley.

        5 out of 5 stars thoroughly informative.......2000-06-05

David Newton shows clearly his mastery of the methods and techniques of investing in growing internet companies. Not only does he provide an informative background on choosing where to invest, he shows numerous references to these ideas. The research is clear and up to date. An overall good book. Congradulations, David!
