Not impressed.......2007-10-03
I am not sure whether my negative perception of this book arises more from my disliking the book or the subject matter, but I felt like I had trouble learning from it as well as I have from other textbooks. I generally rely on the text to clarify anything I missed from a professor's lecture, but this one was not that helpful for me. I'm sure this is related to the fact that I am absolutely horrible at accounting, but I was hoping that the textbook could save me and teach me whatever I was missing in class... no such luck!
Good starting book for Managerial Accounting.......2007-02-26
Clearly written. Although it assumes some basic knowledge about accounting, the writing technique is such that there is very little background knowledge that you have to go refresh yourself with in order to make sense of the new information. For a novice at accounting like me, this was easy to understand, with good examples and illustrations.
It is really useful in real business world!!.......2006-11-16
I am a MBA candidate in US and will return to Japan next year.
My background is engineer in Japanese manufacturing company.
Even now, this textbook teaches us powerful tools and especially in factory accounting. The knowledge for budgeting and how to evaluate it will help me in the future.
I will bring this book back to Japan and try to use it in the real world!!
Excellent book.......2006-10-11
The writing may not be perfect, but it's still a great textbook, probably the best you can find.
After all, there is a reason that so many colleges use this book. You will learn a great deal whether you use this book for a class or for your own study.
Poorly written.......2006-02-15
This is a poorly written textbook; rambling and fragmented information is presented on a piecemeal basis rather than in a clear, concise and well-organized manner. Important information belonging to one subject-matter chapter, is often presented as "aside" information in other chapters on wholly different subjects. This textbook appears to have been written by an author who forgot to take his ADHD medication. This "substandard" quality has become common place with this particular publishing company, Prentice Hall, to include its many subsidiaries (Pearson, Thompson, Southwestern, etc.), to the detriment of the education system.
Book Description
As the long-time best-seller, Garrison has helped guide close to 2 million students through the challenging waters of managerial accounting since it was first published. It identifies the three functions managers must perform within their organizations-plan operations, control activities, and make decisions-and explains what accounting information is necessary for these functions, how to collect it, and how to interpret it. To achieve this, Managerial Accounting, 11/E, focuses, now as in the past, on three qualities:
Relevance: Every effort is made to help students relate the concepts in this book to the decisions made by working managers. With insightful chapter openers, the popular Managerial Accounting in Action segments within the chapters, and stimulating end-of-chapter exercises, a student reading Garrison should never have to ask "Why am I learning this?"
Balance: There’s more than one type of business, and so Garrison covers a variety of business models, including not-for-profit, retail, service, and wholesale organizations as well as manufacturing. In the eleventh edition, service company examples are highlighted with icons in the margins of the text.
Clarity: Generations of students have praised Garrison for the friendliness and readability of its writing, but that’s just the beginning. Technical discussions have been simplified, material has been reordered, and the entire book carefully retuned to make teaching-and learning-from Garrison as easy as it can be. In addition, the supplements package is written by Garrison, Noreen, and Brewer, ensuring that students and professors will work with clear, well-written supplements that employ consistent terminology.

Well Written.......2007-09-24
The book is very concise & well written. It has helped me tremeendously in my Managerial Accounting class, and is very easy to understand.
Everything as expected!.......2007-02-16
The items arrived as expected; the price of the book was below the university bookstore.
Fair.......2007-01-10
The condition of the book when I received was not as good as stated. I did expedited shipping but it was just as slow as the regular shipping rate.
Not worth the money.......2007-01-03
This book was required for the class I took. The Ready Notes is a bound set of Powerpoint slides (3 per page). The instructor did not use the entire set of slides. I could have taken notes during the lecture and saved the money.
Good book .......2006-11-14
It is good book to learn managerial accounting and it also good to keep it as a reference.
Book Description
Through five editions, Managerial Economics has been among the leading texts in the field. Maintaining its hallmark clarity, abundant use of real-world examples and cases, and strong coverage of international issues and technological change, the Sixth Edition has been rigorously updated and revised, adding six entirely new chapters and an innovative student Web site.

Managerial Economics Text book.......2006-11-03
It was the text book of this course.
It's not really needed to buy it to catch up with this course,
but this book has good samples and cases to read.
hip business economics.......2006-05-16
This is not your average dry and boring managerial economics book. The writing is great, it covers all the major topics, and there are plenty of real life applications. THIS BOOK ROCKS.
A new age economics book.......2005-11-01
This book is leaps and bounds more impressive than most managerial economics books. The newest concepts in economics like auctions, moral hazard, sophisticated pricing and adverse selection are given full chapter treatments. Not only do the authors clearly explain these concepts, but they show how they are applied in the business world.
I was also impressed with their revised game theory chapter. Instead of the usual dry mathematical treatment, the chapter uses game theory to illustrate the importance of strategic principles. I found the chapter more helpful than any other treatment on game theory.
The authors are professors at The Wharton School and use the book in their class. I can see why Wharton is a top ranked business school. Their students definitely have an advantage in learning from this book.
Wharton Rules.......2005-09-08
My first reason to buy this book is that i always felt a lack of knoledge in general economics, than you must consider the autors. Its easy to read and interesting. Full of examples and written in a way that teach you.
For me its one of the best books i ever read.
I love it.
A significant improvement.......2005-03-14
I reviewed the 5th edition of this book and thought it was good. This sixth edition is significantly better and in my view is the top book in managerial economics. The authors are from the Wharton School of Business, one of the top ranked business schools in the world. They have designed the book to show the reader how to apply various concepts to real world applications.
In this edition, the authors have completely revised the chapters on pricing. The book covers both simple and sophisticated pricing models. The chapter on sophisticated pricing models (e.g., two part tariffs, bundling, price discrimination) is terrific and useful to both students and managers.
Other improvements include a brand new chapter on game theory and a new chapter on adverse selection. The chapter on game theory is well written and clearly illustrates important strategic principles. I tip my hat to the authors for providing the reader with a clear understanding of how the theory works and why it is important. The chapter on adverse selection is also well written.
I have looked at several books because I am trying to choose one for the course I teach. After reading this book I look no more. This is the best book for those who really want to understand how to use economics in the business world.
Customer Reviews:
outrageous price.......2006-11-21
This is perhaps the most expensive book besides collectables. Judging from the size and amount of information, it probably worths $5 - but I had to buy it simply because the professor uses it as textbook.
Granted that this is a book for business management professionals or to-be's, but this does not mean the book should be this expensive. You'll know what I mean when you see the book. I think they they are taking advantage of that fact that most people buy this book get reimbursed - my self for one will get reimbursement from my company, but I resent the fact that I have to buy such an expensive book and waste my company's money only because I have to. This is robbery - it's not printing book, it's more like printing money.
Excellent book.......2006-08-01
This is a short and concise book . I used it in one of my graduate courses, and found it very helpful.
Essential Reading.......2006-02-25
I used a previous edition of Ms. Munter's book as a text in a graduate course in management communications. The latest edition adds some new subjects and is still one of the best books on the subject. If you could only have one book on this subject this would be a good choice. Even though this book covers a broad base of communication skills (strategy, written, verbal and non-verbal, typography, graphical and prepresentation skills), each subject is covered in considerable depth. This book should be on the office shelf of every manager who needs to communicate effectively.
Book Description
This highly successful undergraduate corporate finance text is recognized for its tradition as the best corporate finance textbook at teaching finance. Block and Hirt's approach focuses on pedagogy and how students learn. With the Ninth edition, the authors' careful writing style and step-by-step explanations make the text easy to understand. They also have presented a strong real world emphasis throughout this new edition. Not only will students find real-world emphasis in text examples using "hot" companies recently mentioned in the business press, but there are also Finance-In-Action boxed readings that give an in-depth look at real business decisions, and consistent placement of real company logos in the text's margins. The Ninth edition continues to present a simple and understandable story of finance for students. All of these features come together to present a comprehensive story of finance.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Self Study.......2005-08-13
The text is very easy to read and simple to follow along. The self study guide that comes with it is very handy to get a full understanding of the mathematical equations. I was disappointed that the weblink provided in the book to get more up to date information from Standard & Poor's was not working. I had to order the 11th edition for my second finance class but that was by order of the university. When the 11th edition arrived the weblink in that book worked. I really enjoy reading the book on my commute to and from work. I recommend this book to even the curious person who wants a better understanding of retirement and pension plans.
I will always refer back to the two texts for all my finance needs.
Foundations of Financial Management, 10th Edition.......2003-09-28
Delivery was terrific. I received the book 6 days after I ordered it and it's brand new!
Very Good, But Not Excellent.......2002-07-12
As an undergrad taking his first finance class, I have have found this book to be quite useful. The concepts are explained in simplified, less-complicated ways and make reading each chapter less frustrating than perhaps some others (compared to some of the econ texts that I have had to use!).
It is well-written, concise, and employs some very straightforward, easy-to-follow graphs/diagrams. Also, both the formulas and the exercises at the end of each chapter are quite useful.
The only reason that I did not give it a 5-star rating is because some of the chapters did not use enough "real-world examples" or hypothetical situations in some of the more challenging lessons. This might better aid those students who are new to finance or simply need another angle to better grasp the idea.
A comprehensive, well-written finance textbook.......2002-03-02
This text is characterized by its extreme simplicty in explanation and presentation of its material. The flow of presenting the contents of each chapter is so sequentially logical that it makes the reader grasp the financial concepts very fast and effectively. Colorful illustrative diagrams are employed extensively to facilitate a high level of understanding and help the learner develop the necessary conceptual links between inter-related topics and items. In addition, it is very comprehensive and intensely supported with a "luggage" of real-life cases .I recommend this excellent text to everyone who needs to take an introductory course in corporate finance.
An excellent book for those who do not wish to learn finance.......2001-06-04
I used to be "illiterate" in terms of finance and I thought that this book would help me to comprehend the basic principles of corporate finance. Unfortunately, the content of this book is completely implicit. The authors wrote a book without taking into account the nature of the audience. Consequently, this book does not address to financial managers or to any kind of managers or even students. The only people who can really understand the content of this book is the authors themselves!
After having read many books regarding corporate finance and financial management, I have become familiar with this discipline. There are hundreds of well-structured remarkable books that you can purchase at a lower price...

Customer Reviews:
No university/college should use this.............2007-08-19
I had to use this book for an online course while earning my bachelor's degree. This book was horrible. This group of 3 authors did not do a good job. The ideas and points did not run smoothly together from one point to another. It seems like the 3 authors did not work very close together to make sure their ideas connected and related directly with each other's ideas. It was as if the authors went from talking about point A, skipping all the way to point F, then going to point C, then back to point F, etc. etc. Their ideas did not flow in an understandable sequence. I also agree about the examples. The examples were no help and they were not thorough examples of material that you would run into the real-world. The examples needed much more details in them.
Huge waste of money.......2007-07-06
Horngren makes a notoriously dry subject even worse. It is filled with long winded verse and practically devoid of dynamic examples. Accounting is something that 'works' and can be worked out. It's best learned when applied to real world situations...this book aims to have you memorize boring definitions and then support those definitions with scarce examples. Even our professor said he's been lobbying to get this book out of my school's curriculum...too bad that didn't happen BEFORE I came along.
Introduction to Management Accounting.......2007-02-19
This book was not at all what I expected and was not very useful.
Introdution to management accouting.......2006-09-02
Very good. Cover is a little worn. Some pages have been written by pencil.
Used in MBA program - Intro to Accounting.......2006-04-06
I have had experience with accounting and found this book to be fairly basic. However, if you are a beginner with no knowledge of accounting, this is a good textbook. I read one of the other reviews about how there is a bunch of useless junk on each page and while this is partially true, it would be UNBEARABLE to read if there wasn't this so called "junk" on every page. Overall a good textbook that I will keep around as a reference for accounting basics.

Book Description
Cost Management" was written in response to changes in the global business environment. Unbridled access to information and intense competition has meant that cost accounting has become an increasingly important tool for managers and accountants alike. Most textbooks focus on content knowledge and then expect students to 'magically' demonstrate skills such as decision-making and critical thinking. "Cost Management" better prepares students for professional success by bridging the gaps between Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. Many students fail to recognize the assumptions, limitations, behavioral implications and qualitative factors that influence managerial decision-making. The dynamic, new author team focuses on cost accounting methods, techniques and the quality of cost accounting information used for decision-making to deliver a thoroughly modern treatment of cost accounting topics.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Economics Text.......2007-06-27
Clearly and concisely written economics textbook, with pertinent examples. An easy read as far as textbooks go. The CD is supplementary... powerpoint charts of the chapters are helpful, but not great. Better off just reading the text.
The best managerial economics book.......2005-11-18
Professor Baye's new edition is also one of the best economics book. This book can satisfy not only entry level reader but also more academic reader.

Customer Reviews:
Wow...that was fast........2007-10-02
Let's just say i was registered for a class on Friday that started on Monday and I got my book on Tuesday without paying an arm and a leg for expedited delivery. I'm really thankful for AMAZON :)
Nice book for beginners.......2007-10-01
This book helped me to understand accounting in a simpler way though my background is engineering. Nice examples and explanations are written in simpler language that everybody can understand.
Not impressed.......2007-09-29
I was not impressed with this book. I found it long-winded and text-y. I was expecting an Accounting-for-non-accountants approach but I couldn't have been more wrong. The more I read this book, the more I wanted to buy another book-- Accounting for Dummies. Thank God for my instructor's supplementary materials for without those, I would truly be lost. Her presentations provide more concise, to-the-point information.
If you are a non-accountant like me and you wish to understand accounting by your own terms, this is definitely not the book for you. Their exercises don't even have quick and available answers.
Excellent Book........2007-09-06
I scored an A in this subject due to the good quality of the book.
Terrible accounting text.......2007-02-26
The textbook is just poorly organized and doesn't begin to prepare you to solve the problems that are given at the end of each chapter. While it defines terms well it also leaves out explanations for most practical applications that are tested for in the problems. There is no way to check your actual work, since even the homework manager only provides solutions and not a detailed methodology as to how the answers were arrived at. It is amazing that this has survived to 7 editions without someone organizing the chapters and the material in some more organized fashion. Unrelated concepts are thrown in at the end of chapters with little explanation. If you want to learn accounting terminology this book is okay. If you want to learn how journal entries are actually recorded line by line look somewhere else. The explanation of debits and credits is perfunctory. This is not written as an entry level accounting text for non accountants.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent textbook for gaining an understanding of Finance.......2007-03-10
This text book is an excellent resource for understanding Financial Management. It was a required text in my MBA program and the book is easy to go through on your own. There are exercises, or self tests, at the end of each section in the chapters, as well as many types of problems and self test questions at the end of the chapters.
We had a mediocre teacher in my MBA program, so going through the text was imperative. The authors do a great job breaking down concepts and some of the examples at end of chapter sections have the answers.
I comes with a supplemental booklet to further help undertand the "Time Value of Money" which, according to the authors, is a difficult concept.
One big plus for this text is that it shows you how to figure out the problems using formulas, using financial caluclators, and using an Excel spreadsheet.
I highly recommend doing the examples and problems in the book, and ordering the study guide. The study guide has additional examples and problems to work through and is the perfect supplement.
This is one text I am going to keep!
Great Service.......2006-12-21
