Book Description
Workflow is the glue that binds information worker processes, users, and artifacts. Without workflow, information workers are just islands of data and potential. Workflow in the 2007 Microsoft Office System details how to implement workflow in SharePoint 2007 and the rest of the 2007 Office System to help information workers share data, enforce processes and business rules, and work more efficiently together or solo.
This book covers anything you're likely going to need to know -- from what workflow is all about, to creating new Activities; from InfoPath forms to ASP.Net forms; from the Rules Engine to the object model. There's even a section on integrating Office 2003 clients with SharePoint 2007 workflows. You'll come away from reading this book with solid knowledge of how to implement workflow in the new world of Office and SharePoint.

Crutial Information about Asp.Net Task Forms is missing.......2007-09-14
Wanted to know about aspx forms dev-n-dep for sharepoint 2007 workflows. Found no code samples online [all samples online talk about infopath :-(]. From the table of contents thought that this book will be good BUT unfortunately it is NOT. It is missing a crutial information about dev-n-dep of .aspx custom TASK forms.
This book explains about custom TASK forms using InfoPath BUT NOT USING ASPX!!!
Otherwise this book is excellent from Asp.Net dev-n-dep viewpoint.
Nice person.......2007-07-23
I read half of this book over the weekend when I didn't have the possibility to connect to the net and then it is useful. But it is a little bit to much screen dumps etc. and we inherit from this class and I don't know why or "I am not a good programmer" so for someone that wants a first introduction to Workflow in Sharepoint then this book or do some free web training can be recommended. For a deeper understanding of workflow this is not a book. Maybe that Sharepoint workflow book is not written yet.
Some good points that I like is the connection with Sharepoint Office and what the vision is as I am still having my customers running 2003 that is useful...
All the Essentials.......2007-04-27
I agree with many of the reviews already written. This is a well organized and to the point tutorial on workflows with the Office system. I skimmed through once to get the high level overview, and dove into chapter 6 to get into designing workflows in visual studio very quickly.
As was pointed out in another review, the author is 'conversational' but I didn't feel like it hurt the book at all. I guess that is a matter of personal preference. Overall, this book was very helpful and I would highly recommend it.
Fantastic WF+MOSS 2007 reference.......2007-03-27
I struggled with workflows, especially integreating the webified versions into MOSS 2007 Forms Server going back to the very early beta days. While I was able to get them to work, some concepts were hazy to me. David's book brought it all together with some fantastic examples. If you're new to WF, this first section will address the core concepts... no need to go out and get another workflow book. The three chapters on creating a custom activity, creating a sequential & statemachine workflow, and making it available over the web via Forms Server are fantastic.
Only reason I'm not giving it a 5 out of 5 is because the book is very conversational. A book of this type should be more reference, not "chatty."
Outstanding coverage of a difficult topic.......2007-03-14
I have been creating workflows in SharePoint 2007 since early in the beta. The process is challenging and - at times - frustrating. David has done an excellent job providing the details and examples necessary for developers to be successful. You will find answers in this book that are not available from any other source.

Office 2007 Inside/Out.......2007-09-26
This book is pretty good for somebody that doesn't know anything about using Microsoft Office. If you are an advanced user, this book is too basic.
The eBook is GREAT!.......2007-08-28
I find myself buying the InsideOut series, even if I have other books on a topic, because of the included eBook. I love the fact that I always have the information on my computer and can search it for whatever I need. This book is not very detailed, but it helped me with relative references in Excel just last week. I opened the eBook, searched for "relative reference" and found what I needed. Paid for the book, in my opinion. Oh, and I use the hardcover to page through and look for new information, when I have the time.
All You Ever Wanted To Know About Office 2007.......2007-05-12
This is a very comprehensive and detailed reference book for Office 2007. I have found it invaluable as a reference tool when I can't get Office to do something I want it to do. Just check in the index, read the very clear description and instructions and I am on my way!
VERY thick manual that is a book for both the beginner as well as the advanced user of Microsoft 2007
Book Description
Work at your own pace through the easy numbered steps, practice files on CD, helpful hints, and troubleshooting help to master the fundamentals of working with Office 2007, including how to navigate the new user interface. With coverage of core Office programs, and highlights of new programs, you will learn how to create professional-quality documents, powerful spreadsheets, and compelling slide presentations. You will also discover how to get your Web site up and running, how to take notes electronically, and how to manage your e-mail communications and workday. Youll even step through the fundamentals of working with Microsoft InfoPath forms and collaborating with Microsoft Office SharePoint, Microsoft Office LiveMeeting, and Microsoft Office Groove.

Microsoft Office System Step by Step.......2007-03-23
This is a wonderful book for someone with little experience with any version of Microsoft Office. It is very basic. However, if you are already very comfortable with, say, Office 2003, you may want to consider buying a more advanced book.

Exploring Microsoft Office 2003 Vol. 1 by Robert Grauer.......2005-09-27
Book as described and in good condition; received it in a timely fashion. Would buy from again.
An Extended Handbook to Microsoft Office........2005-05-03
EXPLORING MICROSOFT OFFICE 2003 VOLUME 1 is a textbook that is basically an extended handbook on Microsoft Office. The book has what I would consider six major sections: basics of Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet and the world wide web, and some essential computing concepts. The sections dealing with Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint contain all kinds of helpful hands-on exercises. The Internet and essential computing concepts sections don't have quite as many exercises and contain a little more book rather than hands-on knowledge. To be completely honest, this book is rather boring to read and work through on one's own. However, when used in conjuncture with a class, it makes a great tool.

disappointed.......2007-10-06
The content of this book is fine, but the quality of the book itself is poor. Pages are falling out already and I've only used it a few times.
Paste Excel into Word?.......2007-08-24
This book is the only Word/Excel related handbook that actually discusses the merits of various ways of pasting Excel charts into Word documents (pp. 142-151). Wempen's Using Word book discusses it and gets it wrong. The Word Inside Out book doesn't bring it up.
I'm rating this book on this fact alone, so it is not a complete assessment.
Excellent for Basic Reference.......2007-07-14
I want everyone in the office to have a copy (and actually read it!). I would recommend this for students, as well.
More than just a "How To".......2007-05-26
As a Microsoft Office programs training instructor in my own business, and a part-time Office Programs Instructor for two local Community College Workforce Dept's., I find the Advanced Microsoft Office Documents 2007 Edition Inside Out to be a very comprehensive book that is very helpful to even experienced users, as well as new users. The written and graphic details are very simple, yet concise, and make the learning process much easier. It is a book that I not only recommend to my students and clients, but, it also has a home on my own desk.

Stephanie understands MS Office software. But, better than that, she understands people. People want results. People need properly created documents. People need help.
Ms. Krieger's other book was a knock-out (Microsoft Office Document Designer). In less than 200 pages, she addressed the task of proper document design. In this book, she takes this to a much higher level.
As a full-time software trainer, I have seen that people only use a small percentage of the features that programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint offer. Is this due to a lack of ability? No, it's due to a lack of knowledge.
Stephanie's book will provide the reader with the knowledge required to assemble a "proper" document. Filled with advice, information, and the perfect mix of programs, the pages glow with a light that removes the sometimes dark areas of document creation.
For users of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint who do not read this book, they will continue to struggle, using "band-aids" to hide the cuts and bruises their documents contain. For those who read and apply the information in Stephanie's book, they will not need a trip to the emergency room to save their creation.
Book Description
Microsoft Office is the number-one selling software for the Mac; the Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Entourage applications are more dominant in the Mac world than they are among PC users. And Microsoft has greatly improved and enhanced Office 2004 to take advantage of the latest Mac OX features. In short, Microsoft Office for the Mac is wildly popular and better than ever. But as incredible and powerful it is, the Office 2004 suite comes without a single page of printed instructions. That means you're left to forge your own path through its countless innovative and useful new features and tools--until now. Office 2004 for Mac: The Missing Manual is the manual that should have been in the box. It's the map that clearly and easily guides both beginners and veterans through this new suite. Mark H. Walker, Franklin Tessler, and Paul Berkowitz deliver all the practical information you need to master the basics and make the most of all four Office 2004 programs--Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Entourage. It's four books in one! According to Microsoft's own research, the average Office user taps into less than fifteen percent of the suite's features. With first-rate writing, a handcrafted index, and the trademark humor and clarity of every Missing Manual, Office 2004 for Mac: The Missing Manual will change that. Because this isn't an authorized book, Walker, Tessler, and Berkowitz candidly point out which features are gems in the rough worthy of your focused attention--and which are junkware that you best continue to overlook. Whether you're an Office beginner eager to master one or all of the applications in the suite or a longtime Office user looking for detailed coverage of what's new (and what's removed) in Office 2004 and hoping to implement power-user techniques for better and more efficient work, this funny and friendly, comprehensive guide will prove indispensable.

Office 2004 manual.......2007-09-01
A big, heavy book that I wish I could read in bed but it weighs too much on my stomach. It has a lot of stuff and I will use it as a reference when I have a problem converting my old Word 2000 text to the newer 2004. I'm new to the Mac computers.
make it work.......2007-03-12
Frustrated by the continuing changes-for-the-sake-of-change by the software moguls?
Here's some help.
Highly readiable and still helpful book for the windows challenged who would just like to make it work.
Excellent book.......2007-02-19
I have never been disappointed by Missing Manuals and this one is no different. Many, many tips are revealed and locating these is very easy. Great book!
A Must have for OS X users.......2007-01-05
Great book for OS X users. You can easily troubleshoot with this book. Saves time and money. Should never have to call for manufacters help again.
Disappointing.......2005-12-26
This book was a disappointment. I had expected a reference of the caliber of David Pogue's Mac OS X Tiger manual. Among problem areas: a hard-to-navigate and incomplete index, fuzzy photo insets, and incorrect cross-references. The manual has the feel of something put together in a hurry without proper proof-reading, and borrowing heavily from canned sources. I learned some things but had to work harder to glean the information than I should have. I would not recommend this manual, unless it's the only game in town. I don't think it is.

Windows Vista(TM) Plain & Simple (Bpg-Plain & Simple)
It is hard to use this to start using Vista because the subjects are not in the order you will encounter them in trying to configure it. For example how to use multimedia and running gadgets are covered before "setting up" , "managing files" and customizing your configuration.
2007 Microsoft Office System Plain & Simple (Plain & Simple Series) .......2007-06-08
Well written, simple and precise, easy to follow and understand. Great to have a book that is non geeky. Excellent.
Not so plain, but yes, simple!.......2007-06-01
This is a great book for anyone who does not want any type of theory but just the information to get going on a project. Lots of great illustrations and just what this busy librarian needs who does not have time to go back to school for a computer science degree. The book contains easy to read page layouts with instructions on how to preform various task in a simple step by step manner. Who knew a marine biologist and former caterer could cook up such a book.

Excellent as a manual or reference book, generally you can go directly to a topic and learn all that you need to know about that topic without having to read previous sections.

Waste of money.......2007-04-12
Contains little information that is not covered by the help files. Don't bother with this manual or series.
Helped me come up to speed quickly.......2007-02-28
I bought this book after I read the Windows Vista Step by Step book. I really liked that book, but I like this one even better. There is so much information about Outlook in general and the cool new features of Outlook 2007--I've been using it at work and it's just amazing. I did have some trouble setting up the program at home, which is why I bought this book. I found the solution in Chapter 1.
One thing I like about this book, and I guess the series, is that it has not only the exercises and lots of pictures, but also some great tips and tricks that have helped me come up to speed fast.

Microsoft Office Review-8-2-06.......2006-08-02
I've only just begun reading this book, but have learned something on each and every page. I bought it at the suggestion of a colleague who attends seminars given by the authors. She raves about their knowledge and ability to easily give instructions on using software applications as they "write the manuals", and I can confirm that they "know their stuff."
A Great Book for Office 2003.......2004-08-19
This book is a great resource for both people who have used other Office versions and for those who are beginners. The explanations are just and the pictures really help you understand what is going on. I loved it.
Excellent business tool.......2004-04-12
Finally a book that explains the objective and not just what the software is capable of doing!
I would highly recommend this book to any person using Office 2003 in a business environment. Gini Courter and Annette Marquis had anticipated my questions and not only provided highly informative answers but extremely useful tips and advice. Additionally, the examples will assist readers from an entry level to expert.
My bookshelf is crammed with reference guides for application software. Recently I have purchased a number of titles written by Courter and Marquis as I find their writing style so easy to read and interpret. Once again I have not been disappointed with this title.

Best book on the subject but spends a lot of time on stuff 90% of us will never use.
Be carefull.......2007-07-16
All supplied material for review of this book said it was new and up to date but did not give the version number of Open Office that was covered. When I received the book I was frustrated and well into it when I found it was for version 1.1. The Open Office I have is 2.2. The data base portion is not even mentioned in this book. I found that I wasted a lot of time. If any of these books do not show the version number of the program they are working with I would not buy them!
good book .......2007-01-05
Pretty much of a getting started but does talk about many important points.
Though I am very skilled in Excel, Open office is still irritating.
I would buy it again.
Very good, but not as in depth as I would like........2005-09-02
The book covers the major aspects of the software suite, but it really doesn't get into the details of the programs. For that, I recommend a Dummies book on the Microsoft version, since they don't have an in-depth book on the OpenOffice.org version of the software applications. For what it is, an overview of the suite, it is very good. I highly recommend it as a fantastic starting point. I paid a paltry $7 for the book, delivered. How can you go wrong with a price like that? Truth be told, I believe it would have been worth the cover price of $24.99. It is an excellent book to start with, but you'll want to dig deeper after you make it through this book. I hope the authors will consider making full-blown Dummies books for Impress/Presentation, and Calc/Spreadsheet, and the Writer/Text Document applications, too.
I highly recommend OpenOffice.org to all non-profit organizations, as well as for-profit companies: save yourselves $200-$500, per computer, along with the upgrade/compatibility issues, and dump Microsoft. You will be glad you did. Cheers!
great book and a terrific resource for our organization.......2004-04-27
We are a company that pride our selves on being cutting edge, if not bleeding edge with open source software solutions. We had used MS office for years but as OOo has gotten more advanced we
started migrating over to it as a great alternative. One of my main job duties here is actually the OOo expert. I field any questions, do training, and I am basically the PR front for our now 800 users. I just ordered 20 copies of your book so I can lend them out to users with concerns and questions. It is a great book and a terrific resource for our organization.
