Book Description
Workflow is the glue that binds information worker processes, users, and artifacts. Without workflow, information workers are just islands of data and potential. Workflow in the 2007 Microsoft Office System details how to implement workflow in SharePoint 2007 and the rest of the 2007 Office System to help information workers share data, enforce processes and business rules, and work more efficiently together or solo.
This book covers anything you're likely going to need to know -- from what workflow is all about, to creating new Activities; from InfoPath forms to ASP.Net forms; from the Rules Engine to the object model. There's even a section on integrating Office 2003 clients with SharePoint 2007 workflows. You'll come away from reading this book with solid knowledge of how to implement workflow in the new world of Office and SharePoint.

Crutial Information about Asp.Net Task Forms is missing.......2007-09-14
Wanted to know about aspx forms dev-n-dep for sharepoint 2007 workflows. Found no code samples online [all samples online talk about infopath :-(]. From the table of contents thought that this book will be good BUT unfortunately it is NOT. It is missing a crutial information about dev-n-dep of .aspx custom TASK forms.
This book explains about custom TASK forms using InfoPath BUT NOT USING ASPX!!!
Otherwise this book is excellent from Asp.Net dev-n-dep viewpoint.
Nice person.......2007-07-23
I read half of this book over the weekend when I didn't have the possibility to connect to the net and then it is useful. But it is a little bit to much screen dumps etc. and we inherit from this class and I don't know why or "I am not a good programmer" so for someone that wants a first introduction to Workflow in Sharepoint then this book or do some free web training can be recommended. For a deeper understanding of workflow this is not a book. Maybe that Sharepoint workflow book is not written yet.
Some good points that I like is the connection with Sharepoint Office and what the vision is as I am still having my customers running 2003 that is useful...
All the Essentials.......2007-04-27
I agree with many of the reviews already written. This is a well organized and to the point tutorial on workflows with the Office system. I skimmed through once to get the high level overview, and dove into chapter 6 to get into designing workflows in visual studio very quickly.
As was pointed out in another review, the author is 'conversational' but I didn't feel like it hurt the book at all. I guess that is a matter of personal preference. Overall, this book was very helpful and I would highly recommend it.
Fantastic WF+MOSS 2007 reference.......2007-03-27
I struggled with workflows, especially integreating the webified versions into MOSS 2007 Forms Server going back to the very early beta days. While I was able to get them to work, some concepts were hazy to me. David's book brought it all together with some fantastic examples. If you're new to WF, this first section will address the core concepts... no need to go out and get another workflow book. The three chapters on creating a custom activity, creating a sequential & statemachine workflow, and making it available over the web via Forms Server are fantastic.
Only reason I'm not giving it a 5 out of 5 is because the book is very conversational. A book of this type should be more reference, not "chatty."
Outstanding coverage of a difficult topic.......2007-03-14
I have been creating workflows in SharePoint 2007 since early in the beta. The process is challenging and - at times - frustrating. David has done an excellent job providing the details and examples necessary for developers to be successful. You will find answers in this book that are not available from any other source.

Customer Reviews:
The Practical Side of Quickbooks.......2007-09-26
Intuit products, such as Quickbooks, have excellent pull-down Help, among the best written in the software industry. Information is well indexed and clearly written with step-by-step instructions. Quickbooks also has an excellent set of video tutorials, which take about 90 minutes if you view all of them (which I recommend).
But what the Help and the video tutorials can't really do is give you advice on how to use the accounting system works in practice. How do the individual parts fit into the big picture and what are your choices, depending upon your business, for handling things like Vendor Bills, Customer Sales Receipts, petty cash, etc.? Why would you want to choose one method over another?
This is where this book comes in. Ivens answers the very practical questions that everyone has starting out. For example, should I log deposits against customer sales, or should I treat deposits as a lump sum? Why would I want choose one method over the other? This book answers this, and many other practical questions, clearly, with step-by-step instructions for each method and the rationale behind it.
I would highly recommend this book to supplement the pull-down Help and the video tutorials to answer the many practical decision that you will have to make about how to set up your system so that it will work best for you.
QuickBooks 2007.......2007-07-29
QuickBooks is well designed for use by the financial manager of a small business. This "Official Guide" for the 2007 edition is well written and well organized.
QuickBooks 2007 The Official Guide.......2007-05-29
I am only doing the basic functions with Quickbooks including automatic downloads from my bank. I have not used this book at all and frankly have trouble finding what I need. I feel the small guide that comes with the software and the online tuorials and 30 day free 24/7 support is adequate.
A Disappointing Guide.......2007-05-23
Although I haven't gone very far with the Guide, it is generally a disappointment, at least for this Mac user of Quickbooks Pro. (It is possible that the Guide is intended for Windows users, but it was sold by Amazon as a package with Quickbooks Pro for the Mac. While this difference might explain problems with suggested keyboard shortcuts and depicted windows that aren't the same as those in the application, it does not excuse the shoddy index.)
The procedural sections (e.g., Do This First in the appendix) are passible. However even here, the instructions are often incorrect. For example, in Creating Accounts, the Guide instructs the user to press CNTL-A to open the accounts window, whereas the actual keyboard shortcut is Shift-Apple-A. Moreover, the two windows shown in the book to create an account are really just one (different) window in the application.
My major problem with the Guide is my inability to use it as a reference manual for answering specific questions. For example, finding specific pieces of information (e.g., how do I enter To Do Notes as Reminders?) is impossible. Even more frustrating, entries listed in the Index are incorrect. For example, if one looks up "Accrual-based accounting, About", one is directed to p.153; unfortunately, there is no reference to accrual-based accounting on page 153.
All-in-all, for those wanting more information on how to use Quickbooks Pro, I'd recommend using the Help feature in the application or the material on Intuit's web page.

Book Description
Too often, finance courses stop short of making a connection between textbook finance and the problems of real-world business. Financial Modeling bridges this gap between theory and practice by providing a nuts-and-bolts guide to solving common financial models with spreadsheets. Simon Benninga takes the reader step by step through each model, showing how it can be solved using Microsoft Excel®. In this sense, this is a finance "cookbook," providing recipes with lists of ingredients and instructions.
Areas covered include computation of corporate finance problems, standard portfolio problems, option pricing and applications, and duration and immunization. The second edition contains six new chapters covering financial calculations, cost of capital, value at risk (VaR), real options, early exercise boundaries, and term structure modeling. A new technical chapter contains a potpourri of tips for using Excel®.
Although the reader should know enough about Excel⢠to set up a simple spreadsheet, the author explains advanced Excel® techniques used in the book. The book includes chapters dealing with random number generation, data tables, matrix manipulation, and VBA programming. It also comes with a CD-ROM containing Excel® worksheets and solutions to end-of-chapter exercises.

Exploring Microsoft Office 2003 Vol. 1 by Robert Grauer.......2005-09-27
Book as described and in good condition; received it in a timely fashion. Would buy from again.
An Extended Handbook to Microsoft Office........2005-05-03
EXPLORING MICROSOFT OFFICE 2003 VOLUME 1 is a textbook that is basically an extended handbook on Microsoft Office. The book has what I would consider six major sections: basics of Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet and the world wide web, and some essential computing concepts. The sections dealing with Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint contain all kinds of helpful hands-on exercises. The Internet and essential computing concepts sections don't have quite as many exercises and contain a little more book rather than hands-on knowledge. To be completely honest, this book is rather boring to read and work through on one's own. However, when used in conjuncture with a class, it makes a great tool.

The only official guide to Quicken--the #1 personal finance software on the market
Fully endorsed and reviewed by Inuit, makers of Quicken, Quicken 2007:The Official Guide offers the time- and money-saving techniques you need to organize and manage your personal finances and master all of the new and improved features of the software.
You will discover proven tips for managing money and investments--including spending, savings, budgets, banking, and more. The book explains how to track income and expenses, automate bill-pay, reconcile checking, savings, and credit card accounts, create reports, simplify filing systems--and even save on taxes. Financial calculators, capital gains snapshots, investment tracker tools, and online resources are also covered. The chapters closely follow the software to help you find information quickly and easily.
Customer Reviews:
This book should have come with the software.......2007-09-21
I have used Quicken many years but was still using the 1999 version until mid summer this year. I decided I wanted some features that the new one has, plus that older one doesn't seem to like Vista all that well, so I bought 2007 Premier. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised to find there was no written user manual supplied with it as that seems to be the way with most software anymore.
So, I came looking on Amazon.com to see what was available. This one looked & sounded good from the descriptions with it's listing. I ordered it along with another and even paid for two day delivery! The book is billed as being the official guide and it seems like a well written user manual that SHOULD have been supplied with the book. I am still working my way through it but have learned a lot. There is a good, usable index which is very valuable in a book like this. I would say it is a good purchase for anyone and especially one like me who is jumping a few generations of the software to get to the 2007 version.
Macintosh Users Beware.......2007-03-24
I would have rated this book zero stars for Mac Users, but I was forced to choose a number ... so I chose 1 star. This book is totally directed toward Windows users. If you are a Mac User, check your CD for a Mac User Guide.
A basic instruction book if you need a hard copy.......2007-03-08
Most of the stuff in this book is there in the Quicken help file, but I am a person who likes to thumb through a hard copy in the evening and not have to sit at my computer. My one hesitation about this book is it tells you everything about Quicken, but it does not help you solve the many, many quirky problems that arise with Quicken during setup, data conversion, downloads, investment accounts, etc. I had to go to the forums for that info. If you want a hard copy operating manual that is complete but short on problem solving, this is an excellent book. If you want a book that will help you unsnarl Quicken's many quirks, this is not for you.
JR.......2007-01-21
Typical of all "Offical Guides" this book is complete, however, without any lightness. It tells the nuts and bolts wthout the humor of a "... for Dummies" book. If you plan on doing any advanced work, other than just keeping your check book, then an "Offical Guide" may be necessary.
Not so hot.......2006-12-25
A salesy, broadbrush book. Won't help you as much as you might hope. True, the very basic stuff is covered (so I give it 1 star instead of the hoped-for option, 0. When it comes to converting data files - like Mac to PC, neither this book nor the paid professionals at Intuit provide any help at all. In that sense, this book is a total waste.
Book Description
Microsoft Office is the number-one selling software for the Mac; the Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Entourage applications are more dominant in the Mac world than they are among PC users. And Microsoft has greatly improved and enhanced Office 2004 to take advantage of the latest Mac OX features. In short, Microsoft Office for the Mac is wildly popular and better than ever. But as incredible and powerful it is, the Office 2004 suite comes without a single page of printed instructions. That means you're left to forge your own path through its countless innovative and useful new features and tools--until now. Office 2004 for Mac: The Missing Manual is the manual that should have been in the box. It's the map that clearly and easily guides both beginners and veterans through this new suite. Mark H. Walker, Franklin Tessler, and Paul Berkowitz deliver all the practical information you need to master the basics and make the most of all four Office 2004 programs--Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Entourage. It's four books in one! According to Microsoft's own research, the average Office user taps into less than fifteen percent of the suite's features. With first-rate writing, a handcrafted index, and the trademark humor and clarity of every Missing Manual, Office 2004 for Mac: The Missing Manual will change that. Because this isn't an authorized book, Walker, Tessler, and Berkowitz candidly point out which features are gems in the rough worthy of your focused attention--and which are junkware that you best continue to overlook. Whether you're an Office beginner eager to master one or all of the applications in the suite or a longtime Office user looking for detailed coverage of what's new (and what's removed) in Office 2004 and hoping to implement power-user techniques for better and more efficient work, this funny and friendly, comprehensive guide will prove indispensable.

Office 2004 manual.......2007-09-01
A big, heavy book that I wish I could read in bed but it weighs too much on my stomach. It has a lot of stuff and I will use it as a reference when I have a problem converting my old Word 2000 text to the newer 2004. I'm new to the Mac computers.
make it work.......2007-03-12
Frustrated by the continuing changes-for-the-sake-of-change by the software moguls?
Here's some help.
Highly readiable and still helpful book for the windows challenged who would just like to make it work.
Excellent book.......2007-02-19
I have never been disappointed by Missing Manuals and this one is no different. Many, many tips are revealed and locating these is very easy. Great book!
A Must have for OS X users.......2007-01-05
Great book for OS X users. You can easily troubleshoot with this book. Saves time and money. Should never have to call for manufacters help again.
Disappointing.......2005-12-26
This book was a disappointment. I had expected a reference of the caliber of David Pogue's Mac OS X Tiger manual. Among problem areas: a hard-to-navigate and incomplete index, fuzzy photo insets, and incorrect cross-references. The manual has the feel of something put together in a hurry without proper proof-reading, and borrowing heavily from canned sources. I learned some things but had to work harder to glean the information than I should have. I would not recommend this manual, unless it's the only game in town. I don't think it is.

Invaluable.......2007-04-18
I bought this book before starting a quickbooks class at a local community college. I definitly got more from the book than I did the class. I continually use it as a refrence.

the book is somewhat limited in information as is the software, QB pro 2006 in application and functionality
Quickbooks 2006 - The Official Guide.......2006-03-20
A well-written and comprehensive guide to using the Quickbooks software. If you are a new user, this would be invaluable because of the simple way they explain things and diagram displays that you would espect to see. The actual Quickbooks Users Manual is also very helpful- but can be confusing to new users. This guide usually clears things up nicely if there is any confusion. It is a handy reference for "emergencies". Not a required item to have - but can be very helpful!
A lesson plan for customization.......2006-03-17
Easily learn Quickbooks features, from basic to more advanced business asks, and tailor Quickbooks 2006 for different uses with QUICKBOOKS 2006: THE OFFICIAL GUIDE. Here's a lesson plan geared to quick customization of forms and purposes, from running payroll and tracking accounts receivable to using budget tools and online banking. Black and white screen shots on every page lend to a format which can be used for either methodical course study or quick browsing reference.
Accounting for the uninitiated.......2006-03-09
Clearly, this is not for anyone who knows anything about accounting, as it is just about right for me. The Quickbooks guidebook does everything it says it will, complete with sequential pictures of the screens. It doesn't actually pay taxes or mail out invoices, therefore I cannot in good conscience give it a five, but otherwise fulfills its promise.

Not received the product.......2007-03-12
I have not even received the product yet. How am I to write a review!
ONLY book detailed on the Excel C API.......2006-02-02
This is the ONLY book that is written exclusively for the Excel C API. It is well written but the reader needs to have basic C knowledge first. Development of XLLs in C++ is a topic not well documented in litertaure except for the MSDN website which has an archived section on the Excel 97 SDK. In any case, the CD code that comes with the book helps a lot. For a quick start to build your own programs you may use some interface classes and headers from the CD.
Several quants purchase a separate software XLL+ for developing the Excel XLLs, but even the software is a series of headers and cpp files made easy. And when it comes to more complicated development like dialog or menus, the book is a useful reference.
learn to use the C/C++ API for Excel.......2006-01-30
In this book you get detailed examples of how to access and extend the functionality within Excel. It is clearly a hands on programmer's book. The languages in which you can do this are C and C++.
Microsoft has provided a rich API in these languages, with which you can get at many objects within the spreadsheet. Like a reference to the currently active cell. Or a list of all open Excel documents. Or finding the formula of a cell, returned as text. Or trapping various events, like a recalculation or a window selection or a keyboard action.
As the book's title suggests, many of the examples are taken from finance. Apropos, given that this is a spreadsheet we're looking at. But the methods given can be applied in any context that you need Excel for.
Very useful.......2005-06-09
It may be true that a lot, defintely not all, of the information can be found in various places on the internet, but the sources are all over the place, incomplete and often refer to older technologies. The book contains much more than just the bland facts from various sources. For a start, the fact that all of this information is in one reference is extremely valuable. (I bought hardcopy, which I much prefer for reference and reading). The book is full of practical help and notes so that you don't have to find out the hard way where the undocumented problems are. There are worked sections on name handling and multi-threading. There are well-presented discussions about memory management, data types and handling large data structures. I work in finance but still think that I would have found this book useful even if I was working in another industry where high-speed number crunching is important. I was able to write xll add-ins after a weekend when it would have taken perhaps months otherwise.
Not enough .......2005-06-08
I bought this in e-book format (it costs twice as much for some reason) and I did not get any of the code that comes on the CD with the hardcover.
I had written a scathing review of this book after reading the first four chapters which is simply VC++ documentation. Chapters 5-9 are a little more helpful though parts of it are also available free. Yet, I don't believe there is enough new material in here.
Book Description
PeachTree is one of the most dominant accounting software packages for small businesses and there are very few books which provide information not only to the use, but the installation and configuration of the software.
Customer Reviews:
User Friendly Workbook.......2006-03-31
Although I have been a Peachtree user for 15+ years, it was with Peachtree Complete (for DOS in a windows format). In the fall of 2005, I started making the switch to Peachtree for Windows, using Peachtree Premium 2006. While the basics of accounting in Peachtree were the same, the process used in the newer software was different and some things totally new. The Peachtree manual was of some help, but "Learn Peachtree Accounting" was REALLY helpful. This workbook is written in an easy-to-follow format. The author also gives helpful tips, along the way. This book is especially helpful for the first-time Peachtree user. She takes you through a well-organized, three-month process, step-by-step, making the transition from your current accounting system to the Peachtree software. Great for anyone in accounting. (Only drawback is that it covers versions through 2002; Peachtree is currently selling 2006. However, the majority of the information still applies to the newer releases of the software.)
