Customer Reviews:
Best book on FSA I have ever read.......2007-09-28
I like its strategic focus and case-oriented approach. The FSAP is terrific. In this book, financial statements finally found its correct place: describe the strategic decisions made by management. This book is never dry. Instead, it is vivid, fascinating, and a great reading for anyone who is serious with a career in equity research.
Worst textbook ever!.......2007-04-30
After three years of graduate school and two Master's degrees (MPH/MBA)I have to say this was the WORST textbook I was unfortunate enough to encounter. I wish I could get a refund for both the cost of the book and the pain and suffering I endured while trying to read it. If a professor tries to get you to buy this book please say "NO"!
HORRIBLE BOOK EVER.......2007-02-22
I am in an MBA program too. I have to use this book as a textbook for the course, Financial Statement Analysis. I have taken Managerial Financing before and done a very good job on that course. But it doesn't help me a lot to understand this terrible book. It isn't that course's fault. I appreciate that I have taken some financing course before I use this book. I can't understand this book very well totally because this book is terrible. Both textbooks for Financing and this course are published by the same publisher, Thomas?..I couldn't believe how different those two books are.
In this book, Pepsi case keeps confusing most readers. Most equations are not highlighted so you can not find them easily and quickly. Homework is not designed for the students who are studying this book but for the authors themselves. Fortunately, our professor sends his master copy to us. It will help us understand homework more, but unfortunately after we have handed in our results.
If anyone who teaches FSA, please do not use this book as your textbook for your students. Pls, pls, pls..Even though you are an expert on accounting or finance, your students will still suffer from your course and almost learn nothing from this TERRIBLE book.
This book sucks if you're learning for the first time........2006-09-26
This book is TERRIBLE. I am an engineer in an MBA program. The book is supposedly for non accountants, but I don't see how it's possible to understand this book if you're not an accountant. If you're unfortunate and have to use this book, find a good book that you can actually read to supplement the subject.
There's a lot mumbo jumbo using technical terms that could be much easier stood with a table and reference to specific numbers in the table. There has got to be a better way to learn finacial statement analysis.

This complete and easy to understand financial accounting book covers the following topics briefly, yet comprehensively: economic decision-making and business in the United States; balance sheets; income statements and statements of owners' equity; economic management; the accounting system; long-lived depreciable assets; inventory accounting; cash flow statements; and a close look at financial statement analysis. For readers needing a book that will allow them a basic understanding of financial accounting.

Book Description
Financial Accounting: A New Perspective embodies an approach to teaching that has been developed by author Paul Solomon for over 30 years. The perspective is student-centered in that it motivates students by truly acknowledging them as business majors first-by taking them out of the preparer mode yet still emphasizing how they cannot be successful in business without accounting. Solomon begins not by talking about business and accounting in the abstract, but by introducing a realistic, concrete business case that students can count on throughout the book as a controlled environment in which to learn new concepts.
Solomon's text presents principles of financial accounting through a framework using the entrepreneurial running case, Cards and Memoribilia Unlimited, which is fully integrated throughout the text. This case engages the student while exposing them to the use of financial accounting statements and information in developing a new business and their role in business decision making. Early on in the book, corporate financial statements are introduced along side those of CMU. Solomon covers debits and credits but delays their presentation until chapter 9 - which may well prove to be preferable to skipping them altogether. Students are more prepared to cover debits and credits later in the course and professors are able to at least introduce these important concepts to their business and accounting majors.

Valuing A Business, 4th Edition
ASIN: 0471694371 |
Book Description
Disputes over valuation issues fill the court's dockets and for good reason, fair market valuations are required frequently by the law. The authors believe that approximately 243 sections of the Code and several thousand references in the Regulations explicitly require fair market value determination. Consequently, taxpayers file an estimated 15 million tax returns each year reporting an event involving a valuation related issue. It is no mystery, therefore, why valuation cases are ubiquitous. Today, valuation is an important and highly sophisticated process. Valuators need legitimate guidance to perform their work. The objective of this book is to provide knowledge, and guidance to those who do the valuations as well as those who are affected by them.
This unprecedented text provides:
- Clear guidance and perspective on business valuation from two of the nation’s top authorities, Hon. David Laro and Dr Shannon Pratt.
- Insightful perspective and discussion on critical issues, procedures and law pertaining to business valuation.
- An overview of business valuation procedures
- Law and techniques of Fair Market Value Opinion from the Hon. David Laro and Dr. Shannon Pratt who express their unique and critical views.
- The business valuer with everything from the basics to the sophisticated. From definitions to valuing complex business interests, what you need to know about business valuation.
- Everything from empirical market evidence to credible expert business valuation testimony discussed and analyzed by the Hon. David Laro and Dr. Shannon Pratt.

Straightforward, bright, and accessible.......2006-11-10
I bought this book in conjunctioin with a business planning course taught by the author. I'm usually not a fan of most law books, but this book presents valuable content in a manner accessible to both law and business students.
book is targeted to lawyers doing valuation.......2006-10-26
This book is targeted towards Lawyers who are doing valuation for tax purposes (have a court case where valuation is disputed). This book is full of references court cases which is not what I expect from a Valuation book. The "and Taxes" should have given it away but I figured it had to do something how valuation changes due to taxes. I would not buy this book if you actually need to do valuation. No examples whatsoever.
Buy it if you are a lawyer working on a Valuation case. Otherwise this book not for you.

Book Description
The media is filled with stories of corrupt executives and financial officers manipulating the reported earnings of their companies. All business executives are under increasing pressure to deliver growth in earnings. So the challenge: how can I manage earnings legally? McKee's Earnings Management solves this dilemma by demystifying earnings management and providing readers with 28 reasonable and legal techniques. Executives will gain valuable knowledge about earning management concepts and tools. Other readers, such as investors, will gain greater insight into the management decisions that can shape financial statements and the underlying quality of the earnings.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Discussion of Important Topic.......2006-12-03
Dr. McKee's Earnings Management offers a great deal of insight into a highly controversial topic within the realm of accounting. The first third of this book explains the difference between ethical earnings management practices and fraudulent financial reporting. He points out that Generally Accepted Accounting Principles offer multiple opportunities for legal and ethical earning management and points out the benefits of such practices. An especially interesting section provides a model that can be used to measure the bankruptcy probability of a company based upon recent financial performance. Dr. McKee shows how the use of earnings management techniques can significantly reduce financial distress and legitimately strengthen shareholder confidence.
The final two thirds of the book includes specific examples of earnings management techniques used by various public companies in recent years. His explanations of these techniques are thorough, yet at the same time not overly-technical. The writing is straightforward and you will not need to be a CPA in order to understand exactly how your company can take advantage of these earning management practices.
This book is geared toward those involved in the management of public companies; however, I believe it will appeal to a much wider group of readers. It provides information that is useful to all users of financial statements. The ideas contained within it would be useful to CEOs and CFOs, but also to shareholders and creditors, auditors and financial reporting managers, really anyone with an interest in the accounting practices of both public and privately-held companies. Highly Recommended!

Customer Reviews:
A Most Valuable Tool.......2001-11-16
I highly recommend this book. In my work as a psychotherapist, I meet many women who have not yet come to terms with with their personal financial demons. A Woman's Book of Money & Spiritual Vision has provided me with a wonderful tool with which I can help them begin. The book is written in a personal style. The author shares her own story as she presents questions and worksheets to help the reader explore the dynamic of money in her history and in her day-to-day life. It can be used alone or with a group to help uncover the myths and facts behind one's financial attitudes and behaviors.
Women and Money: Despite Rumors, Made for Each Other.......2001-06-19
Rosemary Williams looks at money--crazy-making, delicious, necessary money--from every angle. She does the same with women's belief systems. Money is simple; it's our baroque beliefs that keep us from it. "Money is never neutral," she says. "It triggers powerful emotions and conflicting messages--especially for women. The 'money messages' we were taught can pop up at any moment, in decisions large and small."
This is "a workshop in a book" because that's how the author does her research. Her experience during years of leading women through the thorny underbrush of our misconceptions and false information could save the rest of us years of struggle and want.
A former banker and financial planner, Williams has constructed her book like a diary. This is one book meant to be written in, the pages covered in notes. I found that a relief ; somehow breaking that "rule" of my father's gave me the idea that other childhood "rules" were also about to be replaced by grownup liberations. It also called to mind the writing we do in school workbooks in the act of learning.
Something that may come as a surprise, says Williams, is that money and spirituality are not at odds. There are prayers and quotes scattered through this book. Somehow beginning this work by saying "Holy One, Sustainer of all things, give me the courage to look at my financial life with clear sight...." is a wonderfully centering process.
With "Women and Money" women can lessen their fear through dispelling ignorance, which is surely the root of all evil.

Principles of Finance with Excel: Includes CD
ASIN: 0072289988 |
Book Description
As one of the best selling financial principles textbooks over the past 20 years, Financial Accounting: A Business Perspective, 8th Edition continues to provide students in the first financial accounting course an understanding of how to use accounting information to analyze business performance and make business decisions. We use annual reports of exciting real-life companies such as The Limited to illustrate many of the accounting concepts.
The 8th Edition has two important features distinguishing it from other traditional principles of financial accounting texts:
An accounting recruiting focus
Ancillary materials written by the textbook authors
Enrollment in the accounting option is declining nationwide. Studies have shown that many students choose the accounting option based on their experience in the accounting principles courses. In the 8th edition, Financial Accounting: A Business Perspective takes an active recruiting focus. Backgrounds on careers in accounting are provided at the beginning of every chapter stressing the importance and versatility of an accounting degree.
The ancillary materials are written entirely by the authors. This significantly reduces confusing or inconsistent test questions, homework solutions, or instructor resource materials ensuring a more seamless learning experience for students. Ancillary materials available for the 8th edition of Financial Accounting: A Business Perspective include: test bank, solutions manual, instructor resource manual, and student study guide.
Customer Reviews:
Thorough, clean explanations.......2001-02-25
Financial Accounting is a difficult subject and Hermanson and Edwards do a very good job at bringing it down to the "understandable" level. They offer a multitude of ways to learn subject matter: from text, to graphs, to problems, to internet research (with web sites to visit) to real-world examples.
