The seller sold me a broken and dirty book which was claimed as a new one through a very slow shipping method.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book of Business Law.......2000-08-31

I bought this book a week ago. I am a foreign-educated lawyer and I have decided to compare Business Law of my country with Business Law in USA (learned at the US colleges and universities). I was pleasently suprised and also very satisfied with this buy. I appreciate very much the complete coverage of business law topics - especially integration of ethics, social responsibility, economics, historic issues into the presentation of business law topics as well as international topics. The book is written using clear language without problems of understanding as well as for non-native English readers. It was a perfect idea to include TOTALAW CD-ROM which provides access to 30 updated acts and statutes. I appreciate it. I would say the book worth its price and I highly recommend it to everybody who is in any connection with business law. I thank the author for unbelievable excellent work on this third edition of Contemporary business law book.

      Book Description

Today's most pressing environmental problems are planetary in scope, confounding the political will of any one nation. How can we solve them?

Global Environmental Governance offers the essential information, theory, and practical insight needed to tackle this critical challenge. It examines ten major environmental threats-climate disruption, biodiversity loss, acid rain, ozone depletion, deforestation, desertification, freshwater degradation and shortages, marine fisheries decline, toxic pollutants, and excess nitrogen-and explores how they can be addressed through treaties, governance regimes, and new forms of international cooperation.

Written by Gus Speth, one of the architects of the international environmental movement, and accomplished political scientist Peter M. Haas, Global Environmental Governance tells the story of how the community of nations, nongovernmental organizations, scientists, and multinational corporations have in recent decades created an unprecedented set of laws and institutions intended to help solve large-scale environmental problems. The book critically examines the serious shortcomings of current efforts and the underlying reasons why disturbing trends persist. It presents key concepts in international law and regime formation in simple, accessible language, and describes the current institutional landscape as well as lessons learned and new directions needed in international governance. Global Environmental Governance is a concise guide, with lists of key terms, study questions, and other features designed to help readers think about and understand the concepts discussed.

        Book Description

In the coming decades environmental issues will play an increasing role in China's economic development drive, internal politics, legal development, international relations, and regional development issues. While several books have appeared in the 1990s which describe tangible aspects of China's environmental degradation, this book concentrates its attention on management of China's environment within various contexts and represents the state of thinking on the subject by some of the world's key social scientists in this field. It contains an international perspective of environmental problems in China often lacking in books about the Chinese environment. Chapters discuss environmental degradation in Chinese history, organisation of China's environmental protection network, the legal framework for environmental protection, agricultural land issues, water issues, biodiversity, energy, pollution, public health, and business opportunities for foreign firms. While this book shows that there is lots of room for optimism, it also indicates that many environmental problems remain intractable and some are worsening.

          Book Description

Historic preservation efforts began with an emphasis on buildings, especially those associated with significant individuals, places, or events. Subsequent efforts were expanded to include vernacular architecture, but only in recent decades have preservationists begun shifting focus to the land itself. Cultural landscapes -- such as farms, gardens, and urban parks--are now seen as projects worthy of the preservationist's attention. To date, however, no book has addressed the critical issues involved in cultural landscape preservation.

In Preserving Cultural Landscapes in America, Arnold R. Alanen and Robert Z. Melnick bring together a distinguished group of contributors to address the complex academic and practical questions that arise when people set out to designate and preserve a cultural landscape. Beginning with a discussion of why cultural landscape preservation is important, the authors explore such topics as the role of nature and culture, the selling of heritage landscapes, urban parks and cemeteries, Puerto Rican neighborhoods in New York City, vernacular landscapes in small towns and rural areas, ethnographic landscapes, Asian American imprints on the western landscape, and integrity as a value in cultural landscape preservation.

Contributors: Arnold R. Alanen, University of Wisconsin-Madison • Luis Aponte-Perés, University of Massachusetts-Boston • Gail Lee Dubrow, University of Washington, Seattle • Richard Francaviglia, University of Texas, Arlington • Donald L. Hardesty, University of Nevada, Reno • Catherine Howett, University of Georgia, Athens • Robert Z. Melnick, University of Oregon • Patricia M. 5 out of 5 stars Landscape Preservation.......2001-04-23

This book is well worth your time. If you have any interest in preservation and /or landscape you should read this book. It is very thought provoking and intelligently written. It poses more questions than it answers...which I believe is the intention of the editors. Because this book raises many questions and issues, I would recommend it for a book discussion club or a seminar class.

              Book Description

In recent years, global environmental change has become perceptible in many regions of the world and affects the very foundations of tourism and travel. The first part of the book is devoted to an in-depth study of the effects of global environmental change for tourism in different environments, including polar regions, mountains, lakes/streams, forests, costal zones, deserts, and urban environments. The second part looks at some specific global aspects of environmental change affecting tourism, such as the spread of diseases in changing climates, the availability of water resources, and extreme weather events. It can be assumed that these developments will have concomitant detrimental consequences for the tourist industry as well as for tourists themselves. The third section will thus look at stakeholder perceptions of global environmental change. In particular, the perceptions of tourists, tourist industry and policy makers will be highlighted. Finally, a fourth section will look at adaptation. Contributions will seek to discuss the options of restructuring the tourist industry in a changing world.

5 out of 5 stars The Business Enviroment of Hong Kong in 2003 !.......2003-08-24

No doubt, the business environment of Hong Kong in this year of 2003. It is much better after August due there have some new policies for the local economy, they are including CEPA with SME and Free Personal Travels from Southern Provinces of China. Hence, more people can come to Hong Kong more easily than before. And they can carry some gifts and electronics from Hong Kong without Custom's Duty. In order to make more rapid growth for the Hong Kong's local economy, it is the only concerns for both SARHK and Central Governments. After the biggest demonstration on July 1, Hong Kong People are needing to have the right policies to re-build the business and economic's structures from the HKSAR Government. Now Hong Kong has the highest un-employment rate at 8.7% of the total working people; reckon it is not the good figure to analysis in the Business development in 2003. Although all the parties are hoping to help and decrease the percentage of en-employment, it is no way to avoid during the trend of globalization in this decade.
Of course, Knowledge Economy is the main road for us to run in 2003, but Hong Kong's People has learned the enough knowledge or not?
