I really like this book...........2006-01-21
I'm only about a 1/4 through this book and I have to say I've learned a lot of valuable information. It's an easy read and it's not as time consuming because it's not taking you through every minute detail peice by peice. She's giving you real-life information that is useful in making a basic beginners website. Highly recommended.
Pretty Basic Except Where I Needed the Basics.......2005-07-24
This book contains a number of tricks and tips to make a more animated and inviting web site. Adoption of the techniques described will definitely lead to a more professional appearance of the finished product. In that respect, it is quite a useful volume, especially for a neophyte like myself.
Where it falls down a bit (just a bit) is on the explanation of how to do things and what is going on behind the scenes. Examples are given and these are helpful. They make the included exercises work. A little bit more difficult is applying the techniques to your own page with your own designs. I suspect that part of this is because the book was written with a prior version of DREAMWEAVER in mind but I do not know that for sure.
The enclosed CD is helpful in working out the examples and saves a lot of typing. Also helpful is the presentation. You can just look for what interests you and do not have to go through all the previous chapters.
It gives plenty of ideas to explore but expect to spend some time figuring out how to make them work for you.
Great for adding special features..........2005-01-26
This book is really great if you'd like to add a few special features like photo albums, pop-up frames, etc. It explains how to configure them in plain english, and gives examples to practice. You can jump to any chapter immediately to get the info you need without having to spend time reading the entire book. Definitely worth the money!
Great book to kickstart your website!.......2004-02-25
This is a great book if you are computer savvy, but not Dreamweaver savvy. It covers all the "how do they do that" topics, as well as the "hey, that's cool" topics. If you are going to build a website, buy this book!
Great beginners manual.......2003-10-03
I am a beginner Dreamweaver user. Of the several books that I have purchased, this one seem's to be the best. Very easy to understand.

This is the latest Spanish course developed by the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of State. This course was originally developed for intensive classroom instruction by U.S. government officials, diplomats, military personnel, FBI agents, DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) agents, CIA agents and other government personnel that must learn Spanish quickly prior to traveling abroad. However, the independent learner of Spanish that seeks an intensive self-study course can also use FSI Fast course Spanish effectively. The original FSI Fast Course cassettes have been remastered for enhanced digital sound quality.

How to Communicate with Spanish Speakers Not Only Learning their Language But their Customs and Culture too.......2006-09-04
As the editor of the Learning Spanish Products Reviews (LearningSpanishProductsReviews) site, one of my responsibilities is to review learning Spanish courses, books, and software. I am also a native Spanish speaker and a professional private Spanish instructor.
FSI Fast Course Spanish, also known as Spanish Familiarzation and Short-Term Training, is the most recent Spanish course developed by the Foreign Service Institute (U.S. Department of State), recent in the sense that it was developed in 1983 compared to the other Foreign Service Institute Spanish courses which were developed in the 1960s.
This vendor has taken the original FSI Fast Course Spanish and remastered the audio for enhanced digital sound quality. At the time of this review, the vendor provides the course's written material (over 500 pages) on a disk in pdf format instead of an actual book. Although I did not find this to be a major inconvenience, I would have preferred an actual book instead of a pdf disk with all of the written material.
FSI Fast Course Spanish is not as popular as the other FSI Spanish courses (FSI Programmatic Spanish, Barron's Mastering Spanish, etc.). I wonder why because this is actually a very good course. Depending on your needs, it may (or may not)be better for you than the other FSI Spanish courses. This course was designed for intense Spanish study. The course was designed with the person in mind that needs to learn how to speak Spanish as soon as possible, perhaps a diplomat that will need to communicate with government personnel in Spanish speaking countries or a person in the military that will be relocating to Spanish speaking country.
In a nutshell, the objective of FSI Fast Course Spanish is to teach the student Spanish for getting around in the Spanish-speaking world. FSI Fast Course Spanish covers various situational dialogues in order to give students practice with coping with a wide range of
Spanish usage.
FSI Fast Course Spanish consists of 38 lessons called cycles which have been prepared for use with accompanying audio recordings. The course was originally intended to be used as the basic material in an intensive 10 week program involving five or six class hours per day. However, if necessary, the course can be successfully used on a less intensive basis, either alone or in conjunction with more traditional materials.
The book's preface states that the course is not designed for self-study. However, after thoroughly reviewing the course it was apparent to me that nothing could be further from the truth. This course is indeed an excellent course for self-study.
Some of the practical dialogs that this course prepares the student for are greetings, signs and phrases useful for the airport, changing money, countries and nationalities, addressing bellhops at hotels and placing outside calls from your hotel room, days of the week, months of the year, seasons, weather, telling time, ordering meals at a restaurant and tipping, giving instructions to the babysitter, getting around outside (asking for directions), getting around inside (directions involving office numbers, floors, right and left, etc.) talking on the phone (including taking messages, leaving messages and dealing with misdialed numbers), using public transportation, using the familiar form of "you," meeting people, placing long-distance calls, calling the physician, social courtesies, small talk, reserving a hotel room by phone, local holidays and customs, shopping, discussing sports, sight-seeing, looking for a house or an apartment, paying a maid or deliveryman, buying concert tickets, opening a bank account, and much more.
This course actually does more than teach Spanish. It prepares the student for living and working with people whose language and customs differ from native English speakers. This course even has helpful information and advice about attending Christenings, including advice about bringing gifts. There is also a section on how names are composed in Latin America.
FSI Fast Course Spanish turned out to be my favorite among all of the FSI Spanish courses because it quickly prepares the student for practical conversations for living and working with people in Latin America and because it teaches a great deal about the customs of Latin America. My only complaint is that some of the situations that the course prepares the student for are outdated. The course covers making long distance calls in the 1980s. A current version of the course would probably include a dialog for making calls from an Internet cafe. But even with that minor issue, this is a course that I highly recommend for quickly learning not only the language to communicate with the people of Latin America, but also for quickly learning the customs and culture to communicate with the people of Latin America.

A Very Comprehensive 'HowTo' for experienced XP Power Users.......2006-11-07
If you are a complete XP novice, get familiar with XP before trying these techniques. They are not difficult, but you need to be at least familiar with XP. This book offers a wide variety of important, but hard to find, techniques that are indispensible to XP Power Users.
Keith Underdahl takes you through many techniques to accomplish incredible feats of control and configuration using a step-by-step instruction method that is very easy to follow. This book covers everything from installing and booting multiple Operating Systems, calibrating battery percentage (on notebooks), Managing, protecting and customising nearly every XP feature and interface, and enhancing the power of the system with free add-ons and easy user adjustments, tweaks, and techniques - Keith even covers how to make home movies on your PC!
This book is a "must have" for every XP power user. As a Developer, I've got dozens of books on XP tweaks, tricks, and technical magic - but none of them have this much immediately useable information, or contain as many useful Power-User techniques. This is my all-time favorite XP Power User book.
There's lots more you can do with XP than meets the eye!.......2004-09-17
I'm no expert with computers or Windows XP, but after reading this book I feel like I'm getting there. The techniques described are truly fast and useful. I don't have much time for reading, so I go through one or two new techniques each morning. This has been time well spent, and has made me much more efficient on my PC.
Book Description
Understanding how to give a winning presentation is an absolute necessity in today's world. Sooner or later, everyone has to give a presentation, whether at work (a sales call, a briefing to the boss, participating in a seminar) or in personal life (a class report, speaking at a community organization, leading a program at church or synagogue). Yet the idea of getting up in front of others is absolutely terrifying for many people. This handy guide shows readers how to overcome their fear and create a great presentation quickly and easily.
Customer Reviews:
Helped me give a great presentation!.......2006-02-07
Even though I have to give a lot of reports, I was asked to speak to a somewhat larger audience that I was used to, and I bought this book because I've really liked other books I've had by Rhonda Abrams. It helped me focus and decide on my "core message" and I really liked the concept of a "building" for organizing my key points. I found this book to be very helpful, easy to use, I liked the graphics. Because I'm already strong in PowerPoint, I didn't really need the sections on how to use PowerPoint -- although they looked like they would really be helpful to someone who was new or who wanted to add a little extra zip to their PPT slides. I also liked that the book helped me figure out what to leave out of my presentation too. And, believe it or not, it helped me improve my presentation in much less than a day -- the time the title promised.

Great for beginners.......2000-06-07
I train beginning level users, and this book has been perfect for them. There are lots of pictures and very little technical text to read. It wouldn't be suitable for someone who was already experienced with Windows, but for the novice level, I highly recommend it.
What is that 'Windows' thing?.......2000-03-29
The most basic of tutorials. Big pictures of everyday use of a window's type operating system. Might as well apply to '95 or '98. If you've used either of these before you do not need this book.

Windows 98 Fast and Easy.......2001-10-23
Being retired I decided to learn to use a computer and I needed some help and this book did just that. The book is easy to read and the diagrams are great.
Windows 98 ( Fast & Easy ).......2000-06-11
I first read this book at my local library. Since I am new to the world of computing, technical books left me confused. With this book at my side I was able to perform all the complicated tasks easily. I now want to purchase the book and keep it by my computer for those days when "Gremlins creep into the computer."

It probably my own fault.......2007-06-08
It did say Easy in the title, but I'm afraid it was a little too easy. I wanted more details. This is more like an XP for Dummies.
It's my fault though. I should have gotten something called "the Bible", although I would say that I looked for something like that.

Customer Reviews:
Get started with a different book... not this one!.......2006-07-07
For a beginner who is learning Databases, SQL and/or Oracle, this book is lacking.
I do agree that there are certain sections of text that are nicely done, explained, and illustrated. Unfortunately, they are wedged inbetween other sections where lots of confusing terminology and concepts are poorly explained. Normalization is squeezed into 5 pages. First experience getting signed onto SQLplus consumes several page or repetitive thoughts, but is not helpful in troubleshooting.
Get ready for the fire hose half way through Chapter 3 where the book covers varied types of table joins and subqueries without clearly explaining to the reader what's going on. It basically presents the syntax without explaining examples and situations where you'd want to use this feature. Table Joining is one of the most important concepts for report writers to master and the book fails to deliver.
Would have been better to delete Chapter 5 where the book takes a beginner through the rather advanced topics of differentiating between different types of indexes. bitmap versus b-tree versus function-based? If I'm just learning SQL, I'm not going to be making those design decisions quite yet. Use the extra pages here to better explain multi-table joins instead.
I also think they did a rush job getting this book out. Several of the chapter summaries just repeat, in a sentence form, the chapter's heading. The editing is horrible. The text is riddled with typos that will be confusing to the beginner. Example: Page 69 "test" should be "text" -- a significantly different semantic meaning for the sentence.
If you're a beginner, look for a different text. If you're an intermediate like me and need to brush up on what you already know, buy this book and see how many typos that YOU can find.
A great jumpstart for SQL.......2005-09-19
To people that are new to SQL, John Garmany proves that SQL does NOT stand for Scary Query Language. It is an excellent step-by-step primer to take the uninitiated from clueless to competent. What I think is most impressive, is Mr. Garmany's ability to quickly take the student from creating very simple queries to very complex queries without causing the user severe mental and emotional stress. In fact, the examples included in the book, while challenging, are interesting, and even fun. There are lots of SQL books on the market, but this one doesn't require you to be the office geek to get a LOT out of it. Get this book, work through the examples, and pretty soon you to can impress your co-workers, as well as your boss. Highly recommended!
Nice way to get started.......2005-07-16
As the editor for this book I appreciated the challenge of writing a book that takes a complicated subject and explains it in plain English.
Col. Garmany has done a good job with this task, and he strives to put himself into the mindset of the novice and explain Oracle SQL queries in easy-to-understand terms. The text has a sample database so that the reader can follow-along, and the queries start simple, with the more complicated SQL constructs such as sub queries being presented at the end of the text, after the basics are explained.
The real value of the book is the explanations of the SQL*Plus formatting commands for making reports with Oracle SQL. Garmany explains it is simple terms, and the reader seeds examples of the formatting commands and the corresponding output.

Kraig write one on COM+.......1999-12-02
If you really want to understand COM you would read this book. I was impressed by the elegance of the example code. The book basically illustrates it's concepts throught the iterative development of 2 examples. Most of the other books I have looked at that attempt to explain COM are fluff.
It's too bad the book is out of print. I don't know how people will understand COM without it.
Hopefully, Kraig can get it up one more time for COM+
the best and the worthest......print it from msdn and read.......1999-04-23
This book is big and heavy. I tear it into parts so I can carry it to work on daily bases. If one don't want its copy, pls send to me. I would appreciate a second copy of the book.
It is the best book because you can't reach com nervona without it..not even essential com. One must read it several times during different stage of understanding. It is lengthy by detail and author's style. It is dificult to understand. But it provide insight that no other books ever touched. This is not a book to teach you COm/OLE. It is a reference or an encyclopedia. However, just like ARM and "The C programming language", the reference you have to read cover to cover... eventually...
