Practical book but lack of depth.......2007-01-11
1. The book gives useful knowledge for beginners but if you have more than 2 years of industry experience you can forget it.
2. Cases are limited to serveral and lack of Asian perspective.
3. A great text book for new comers to real estate development.

Will use again.......2005-09-19
Book came quickly, in good shape, what more could you ask for?
Good information.......2005-09-11
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for thorough information on public relations. It's worth the purchase and good to have on the bookshelf.
Complicated PR: A thing of the past.......2005-04-07
This is a fantastic do-it-yourself guide to public relations. I didn't see myself as the "for dummies" kind of person until i read this book. The book covers topics including change management, communication, marketing and issues management and makes them look easy. A must have for anyone wanting to know more about PR.
Excellent for a PR Starter.......2005-02-26
The real reason I purchased Public Relations Kit for Dummies, is for my interest of pursuing a career in publicity. All of the Dummies Series books that I've read are based on the fact of the readers being at "beginning level." I like that, because it allows us that don't have the experience or knowledge, gain more insight and wisdom on the particular subject. If you are a intermediate or very experienced PR professional, maybe you shouldn't purchase it. But I find the works of Eric Yaverbaum and Bob Bly, really great. I'm happy with my book, and plan on keeping it on my desk! Thank you...
Save Your Money.......2004-07-30
The Public Relations Kit For Dummies by Eric Yaverbaum and Bob Bly should be called The Public Relations Kit For Blooming Idiots. I cannot think of one thing I learnt from this book. If you have a basic ideal of how to create a press release and grammar skills above a forth grade level you do not need this book. Here are a few items the authors did not cover in this book:
1. How to organize a press kit for any occupation such as an actor/actress, an author, ........... There should be AT LEAST A BARE BONES BASICS OF AN ORGANIZED PRESS KIT IN THIS BOOK, OR ON THE WORTHLESS CD AND THERE IS NOT.
2. There is VERY LITTLE INTERNET RESOURCES IN THIS BOOK. Shame on you two for that!
Save your $20.00. There is NOTHING in this book you cannot find on the internet in one evening of research.

Fundraising Plan.......2007-04-23
Great tool for fundraising planning. Workable model for creating a donation and fundraising plan for nonprofit companies.
Plan, plan, plan!.......2004-12-30
The Fundraising Planner does a nice job covering the "particulars" of planning without losing sight of the bigger picture. Like other titles in the Jossey-Bass series, this guide is helpful in structuring an approach and strategy for raising funds. Practical and well-written.
Good Intro Book.......2004-01-31
This is a pretty solid introductory book to fundraising, donor management, proposals, etc. If you are new to the business I would definitely recommend it, though more experienced people might not find it quite as helpful. (though there are still a some good nuggets of information)
A "real" working model.......2001-05-24
Terry & Doug Schaff have provided a virtual road map in The Fundraising Planner. The information is presented in a clear and well thought out manner presenting information that can be seamlessly inserted into your current programs. The planner illustrates how to develop, plan and implement the strategies necessary to conduct successful and accountable fundraising activities.
This book truly has something for everyone. From the neophyte to the seasoned professional, the Schaffs have provided a tool that will take your plans to the next level. As a Development Director I found many applications within the planner that I can utilize to complement my planning activities. Customer Reviews:
The Handbook of Strategic Public Relations and Integrated Communications.......2005-09-27
I think this is one of the most comprehensive and cientific book on Public Relations and communications.
As a practical PR professional I have learned through this book from the ABCs of PR to some of the most advanced subjects on PR and communications.
It has been very relevant for me to have the historical background of PR in order to understand the fundamentals of my professional practice as well as to become concious of the breath of the PR and communications application to business and government.
The nature of change.......2005-04-07
A fantastic overall look at the history of public relations. This book looks indepth at public relations as well as the more recent developments of issues and cris management.
A Tough Read.......2003-08-29
Evidently, this book does not target people starting out in Public Relations. I am a VP of Marketing in a start-up company looking to get some feel for the value of PR. I found this book utterly unintelligible. I was also irritated by the constant reference to `clarity of communication' - advice that the author clearly ignores. Why is `plain English' considered to be such a crime? After reading this on a 3 hour flight from Denver to New York, I was none the wiser about PR and given the significant weight of the book, decided to leave it on the plane. This is a text for PR academics.
Wide-Ranging and Super Informative.......2002-08-21
The Handbook of Strategic Public Relations and Integrated Communications is a thorough piece of work that covers the entire gamut of the public relations industry, from dealing with clients to dealing with the media, from crises to working with marketing.
An extremely useful guide, it is not quite as up-to-date with the latest in the technological age. For that, Michael Levine's Guerrilla PR: Wired is an excellent supplement. Not as wide-ranging as the Handbook, Guerrilla PR: Wired zeroes in on cost-effective public relations strategies and tactics.
The Handbook of Effective Public Relations and Integrated Communications has numerous well-respected members in the public relations and marketing fields contributing their wisdom and experience, letting everyone know what the higher ranking people have learned, the tools to success.
A GREAT BOOK FOR EVERYONE IN THE BUSINESS.......2002-01-16
The Handbook of Strategic Public Relation & Integrated Communications gives simple and understanding examples for every chapter; It even explains the historical background of public relations which helps a lot to understand the evolution of the PR industry.
The book describes, in a superficial but clear way, every activity in the PR business; From investor relations to crisis management, The Handbook of Strategic Public Relation & Integrated Communications will give the basics for the PR profession.
Book Description
In America today college professors cringe at the lack of writing skills displayed by their students, business leaders bemoan poor communicative skills among their employees, and people themselves recognize that they (and their children) have a problem and want to do something about it.
This inviting book introduces readers anew to the eight parts of speech and common grammatical problems -- such as the case of pronouns depicted in the book's title, the tension between nouns and verbs, the controversy of the active vs. passive voice, and the power of a verb-based style. Then equipped with a knowledge of the parts of speech and the power of the verb form, Good presents his theory of style and the craft of sentences -- including those important marks of punctuation.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-09-10
The title alone will sell you. I must hear people misusing "I and me" 100 times a week. I wish I'd had this book in high school. It lays out usage in a clear and understandable manner and doesn't bog you down with information that you don't care about.
Terrific reference book for non-English majors.
Yes, Buy This Book!!!.......2007-07-08
The fact that you are reading this review indicates that you are interested in grammar. That means you should buy this book, as it is certainly one of the better books on this topic. What I especially like is that it does not treat you as a grammarian and it reviews many basics of sentence structure - and it is an enjoyable read. Yes, you still should have a copy of "The Elements of Style" by Strunk and White if you're serious about good writing, but this book is a clear, single source, winner to me. I write articles, books and websites. I routinely seek good reference advice. That includes this book.
A Good Introduction to Grammar.......2007-05-13
Mr. Good laments the fact that grammar is no longer taught in schools and he has taken the effort to introduce novices to it in a fun way. I am truly enjoying his book and I am learning much along the way! Thank you, Mr. Good!
Finally - a grammar book written for the rest of us!.......2007-04-11
I am always trying to ensure my grammar is correct (a habit I picked up from my father.) I've not been able to find a book that explains common grammar problems in a way I would remember. This one is easy to use and I will always keep it with my dictionary and other reference books.
Our Most Important Subject.......2006-08-28
This is an excellent book for learning or renewing our knowledge of English Grammar. There is a conspiracy in this country to dumb down the attendees of public schools, and it began in the early part of the last century with some wealthy industrialists and government officials. Leaving Children behind began before Bush and he is a prime example of it. Let's all fight back by speaking English properly, as well as reading and writing excellently. This book is a good place to start! Then, on to Phonics!
Customer Reviews:
More of an introduction than a handbook.......2006-01-10
OK as a starter, for someone who knows zero about media, but falls short of the mark for anyone who is a practitioner in a media-related industry. The first 100 pages are spent on "context" which might be helpful for readers who know nothing about marketing either (Ms. Katz feels it necessary to tell us what the 4Ps are...), but this leaves very little for anyone who actually needs to DO media buying, planning or research.
The Media Handbook a Handy Reference to Media Planning.......2003-06-19
Helen Katz' The Media Handbook is an easy to follow guide which will help a wide range of marketing/advertising students and practicioners gain a basic understanding of the media planning process. I feel comfortable making this observation as a former media planning executive at DDB Chicago advertising agency and now as instructor teaching two media planning courses at Loyola University Chicago.
This book begins with chapters on "What is Media" and "Media in the Marketing Context" then moves through the steps of the media planning process before it concludes with chapters on media buying and media plan evaluation/accountability. It provides a good overview of media planning yet spares the reader exhaustive explanations of media terminology and media math calculations found in may college media textbooks.
Author Katz has authored this 3rd Edition to stay current with the rapidly changing media environment. To a reasonable extent, she has succeeded although today's digital media technology changes are occuring at such a breakneck pace that any media textbook is somewhat out of date a week after it has been written.
A broad cross section of the marketing/advertising community will find The Media Handbook to be a useful reference source in understanding the role of media planning in the marketing communications process.
Book Description
City, county and school district elected officials annually deal with multi-million, sometime billion dollar budgets. But many have little, if any, knowledge about local government financial matters when first elected. Written in an easy to understand style, this book provides beginning and seasoned elected officials and public administrators with the fiscal awareness to confidently make good budget and financial decisions. Local government is more complex today and there are more opportunities for poor judgement, conflicts of interest, embezzlement and fraud. The best antidote is an informed constituency that insists on good government and accountability. Community members, homeowners groups, business people, unions, service organizations, public watchdogs and newspaper reporters who want to assess their local elected officials' performance will find this book invaluable. Each chapter begins with a real life story such as the city manager who used the city's credit card to go on an lavish shopping spree, the city that used debt to mask it's huge deficit or the school superintendent who sacrificed the district's solvency to create an award winning curriculum. Vignettes from over 77 different local governments across the country are used to buttress the suggested tips and techniques.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent budget, financial and treasury primer........1999-03-18
As an elected Treasurer and local government finance director for the past several years, I found this book to be an excellent primer for all elected and appointed officials. The practical advice offered by Mr. Wood is based on his experience and input from his peers and is extremely valuable. The book is written in a very informal and concise way and should be required reading for all elected officials. In fact, I gave this book to each City Council member and they have all indicated that this book provided excellent financial advice.
Excellent reading for the Government Watchdog.......1998-09-30
Len Wood presents Dollars and Sense in a practical manner enabling readers to absorb its content. A must read book for those that "watch" their local governments, school districts and elected officials. Written for fast reading, yet covers the subject matter extensively. If you want to be certain your local government is working at its fullest potential, Dollars & Sense can be a great help to you.
Great book for people interested in local government........1998-06-14
What a delightful book. The author has presented his subject in an understandable and capitivating manner. He does this by using lots of real life vignettes to make his points. People who want to know what their local officials should and should not be doing will want to read this book.
A Guide for Achieving Job Longevity in the Public Sector.......1998-05-06
Here is a "no holds barred" approach to describing "real life" shortcomings in handling public finances, and then providing tips to local government policy makers and managers on how to avoid a similiar circumstance.
Len Wood writes from first hand knowledge and experience. He describes the situation; outlines the facts; details the results; and provides the reader with suggestions to lessen financial risk and/or failure in the expenditure of public funds.
While the author's primary target is the newly elected official, the importance of this work to experienced elected and appointed public officals cannot be overstated. No one who has worked in the public sector can peruse this book without saying, "There, but for the grace of God, go I!"
