Book Description
Trying to trade stock, bond, commodity and currency markets without intermarket awareness is like trying to drive a car without looking out the side and rear windowsâvery dangerous. In this guide to intermarket analysis, the author uses years of experience in technical analysis plus extensive charts to clearly demonstrate the interrelationshps that exist among the various market sectors and their importance. You'll learn how to use activity in surrounding markets in the same way that most people employ traditional technical indicators for directional clues. Shows the analyst how to focus outward, rather than inward, to provide a more rational understanding of technical forces at work in the marketplace.

Must Read.......2006-04-13
This is a book that everyone should read. Even if you don't trade this is a great book about economics and will help anyone to understand what moves the markets and why. There are numerous charts in this book comparing different markets to each other in a plain easy to understand format. As a technical book goes this one is easy to comprehend will give the reader a much greater knowledge of the markets and the economy in general. As a trader myself this is one of the best books out on this subject I know of and one of the best books I have read on trading period. As an example a few years ago lots of economists were talking deflation. If you had of read this book you would have known that we were not heading into a period of deflation but inflation. What is presented in this book is not an exact science but will give the reader insight to what the future economic situation will be.
If you liked this book, you'll love his new book...........2004-01-09
Those who were reluctant to accept the benefits of intermarket analysis after reading Intermarket Technical Analysis (1991) will find making the paradigm shift much easier after reading his latest book published in February 2004 called Intermarket Analysis. Murphy has the benefit of some monumental market events in the last three decades to demonstrate his case and he uses them to great effect.
As John pointed out in an interview for Stocks & Commodities magazine I did with him in December 2003, it was his original goal to write the quintessential intermarket book but then found the topic so involved that each chapter could have become a book. There is just so much to discuss. Attempting to cover anything but a small snippet in a review is sheer folly. It is also impossible to do the book justice.
Markets have become so interdependent in the last decade, a correlation that continues to strengthen with time. If those who suffered financial ruin between 2000 and 2002 had read Intermarket Technical Analysis, how many of them could have avoided huge losses and even profited from what occurred? We will never know for sure but is it a risk they anyone can afford to take, especially when considering that the cost of avoidance (cost of the book) is less than $50? For those serious about making money in the market and keeping it, his new book, Intermarket Analysis is an absolute must!

The textbook on market forecasting.......2003-11-05
You'll learn a lot from this book. Most investors sit obsessively focused on the market averages. They'll cut on their TV and see the ticker on CNBC be in the green and feel elated or else they'll see it red and get worried. Murphy's book will show you how a study of the bond, currency, and commodities markets along with an analysis of the stock market will help you see the big picture and get a better feel for where the economy and all of the markets are going. The past 3 years has proven to us that just because the stock market has a rally doesn't mean we are on the verge of a big economic boom or a new bull market.
Murphy demonstrates how each of these four sectors interact with one another and the business cycles and if you can grasp the lessons he teaches you then you'll have a clearer understanding of what drives the financial markets. Once you understand these cycles you will be able to forecast the intermediate term trend of the markets. It really isn't that complicated.
The only negative about this book is that it reads like a textbook. It takes a theory of how these markets rotate with one another and demonstrates it with example after example. It takes work to get through the book, but the payoff is well worth it. In fact the lessons in this book are critical to anyone who wants to become a successful investor. In today's environment of rapid boom and bust in which market timing is critical they are more important than ever. Even though it is 10 years old, this is the best book on the subject.
Covers insights many miss.......2003-06-01
This book and its concept dwells into the area of the financial markets and how they affect each other. Its theory meshes with various other market theories in that if one market goes up, another may respond differently. This is one of the handful of books i would recommend to anyone beginning to get serious about the financial markets. I first picked this up in a state library, much to my amazement it was brand new and never borrowed, much like a lot of the information in it.
Badly needs updating & poorly executed.......2002-11-18
This book is old (1991) and does not cover the important
facet of sector rotation or how to intrepret this book into a meaningful stock play. Murphy in this book does not even hint at it, thus allot of this information is not truly useful. The concept is superb but the execution quite flawed.
Instead get the other Murphy book:Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets: A Comprehensive Guide to Trading Methods and Applications OR Martin Pring's new edition to his updated Complete Technical Analysis. Even Murphy's chapter in New Thinking in Technical Analysis: Trading Models from the Masters
was better than this book, despite its short 25 page conciseness.
Funnily his video on this topic DOES update the book and cover Sector Rotation so Murphy obviously is aware of the oversight.
This book is boring with no payoff. There is too much repitition with no real payoff (sector rotation); if you are truly interested in this important field of study look elsewhere.

Book Description
A powerful new way to navigate today's unprecedented market conditions
"Bill Williams' pioneering application of chaos theory to the financial markets is leading technical analysis into the twenty-first century and beyond. New Trading Dimensions presents a complete, highly original, and intriguing trading method with clear, detailed illustrations, and challenging practice pages. Bill's wisdom, technical expertise, and skillful teaching style make this a revolutionary must-have new book for stock and commodity traders." -Tom Bierovic, Product Manager for User Education, Omega Research, Inc.
"Bill hits the nail on the head. The essence of successful trading is a combination of knowing who you are and allowing the market to reveal its secrets. Bill Williams has the gift of explaining these concepts better than anyone I know. This is a compelling work that belongs in every trader's library." -George Angell, author, Profitable Day-Trading with Precision
"Bill Williams is one of the great educators of our time. He freely shares his knowledge and experience in this inexpensive book. This book is required reading for all market technicians. The principles are sound as we have tested them with our software." -John Hill, President, Futures Truth, Co.
"Bill Williams has always been an excellent teacher, taking complex terms and concepts and translating them into a clear, commonsense approach to trading. This book provides a complete trading program that reflects Bill's years of wisdom and experience in the marketplace." -Darrell Jobman, Editorial Consultant and former Editor-in-Chief of Futures magazine
As today's market environment continues to change dramatically, more and more traders are discovering that traditional forecasting methods-pure technical analysis and fundamental analysis-just do not work. Sending out contradictory messages, these opposing schools of thought leave investors baffled about the future direction of the market, and consequently, at a loss as to how to tailor their trading systems. As a result, many practitioners have now turned to a new forecasting "cocktail" that combines traditional charting methodologies with chaos theory and human psychology. In this groundbreaking book, Bill Williams, a seasoned trader at the forefront of this dynamic new approach, explains exactly what it is, how it works in current stock and commodity markets, and how to use it to your advantage.
Based on human nature rather than the vagaries of the market, the new trading dimension works on the premise that we trade not the market, but our own belief system. By assessing what your personal biases are, you can determine how they influence your ultimate success-or failure-and then adjust your trading strategies accordingly.
Written by an expert in the field who has been featured in Futures, Worth, Success, and other prominent publications, New Trading Dimensions takes the latest in scientific knowledge about human behavior and applies it directly to the fields of stock and commodity investing and trading. With straightforward guidelines, it shows you how to adopt the right attitude toward the behavior of the market and use the right tools (ATTITOOLS) for profitable trading. Packed with practice exercises, specific applications to different types of investments, and a detailed review of important market signals, here's where you'll learn how to:
* Discover what the market wants and align your own beliefs with the direction of the market
* Apply chaos theory to trading and investing
* Use Williams' "Market Alligator" for analyzing and profiting from the markets
* Employ a multidimensional trading program that includes such tools and techniques as fractals, oscillators, AC signals, psychological zones, and balance lines
* Exit trades in a timely fashion to reap high returns
Drawing on the author's more than forty years of experience as both a successful trader and seasoned trainer, this invaluable guide offers a breakthrough method that has proven its ability to turn investors into consistent winners.
Customer Reviews:
One of the keys to becoming a better trader..........2006-05-15
I've read all three books by Bill Williams and I think this is his best work.
I'm not sure if I agree with every trading tool that he presents, but, like any new information: you apply them to your own objectives. However, make no mistake...his ideas are important and he's done extremely well to lay them out in a readable manner.
This is just my own opinion, but I feel that you can't dismiss other aspects of technical analysis. Combining a few important technical rules with non-linear trading techniques will produce excellent results as long as you apply them correctly. Further, I've read many books on linear mechanical trading models and usually they don't describe ideas that lend themselves to you as a trader adapting efficiently to changing market conditions.
Put simply, if you read between the lines, he suggests a way of thinking that is non-linear and constantly changing: the crux of the markets.
Worth reading.......2006-04-16
It's not the trading methodology that makes this book valuable. Whenever I reread it I completely skip that part. As a matter of fact, in his next book "Trading Chaos Second Edition" Bill pretty much admits the system underperforms in current market conditions and makes the very significant refinement of using a counter-trend signal that he refers to as a "divergent bar" for first entry. He says without saying it in that book that those following the method in this book will be "late and have a difficult time making any money."
No, the reason I have held on to this book, instead of selling it with the others, is the psychological stuff, and the innovated way he ties physics in with successful trading. It is very introspective, thought-provoking, and yes, quite helpful. To quote the book, get out of the win vs. loss mindset and get into the here and now process of noticing what is happening and being in tune with the market.

It is a bad book. Yes, it is that simple. .......2006-01-15
It is a bad book. Yes, it is that simple. If I were to write in the stile of the book, I would say something along this line:
"I tested the theory on super mainframe personal computer to realize that it is wrong for our times."
No, I did not make a mistake. Author actually alleges to test his theory on super computers at some places and super mainframe computers at others. As far as I know, when mainframe computers were the main part of computer departments super computers were not. Super computers cost millions of dollars and were not available to business people for trading testing. Our days, of cause, most PC (personal computers) are much more powerful than old mainframe computers. Servers in IT departments use PC based technology working on the networks. So, why does the author used this archaic terminology instead of telling you to test it on your home computers? Did he what to empress you or instill the need in his "super mainframe computer" service?
OK, so author is not exactly on the cutting edge of technology. But maybe he knows trading as it applies to chaos theory? No, he does not. The book uses moving averages crossovers and a variation of MACD (as difference between two moving averages) as the base of the trading method. Of cause moving averages are transformed into the alligator and MACD into some new indicator. How innovative is it? He also uses a variation of high point definition with a chaos name of a fractal. Well done! Now most of us will think it is a trading chaos book.
If you are not familiar with MACD and moving averages there are better books on the subject. Do not buy this one.
Don't be fooled ... simplicity is bliss.......2006-01-06
This is an excellent book. The gator, oscillator and history principals are all sound. Add to this Martin Pring's approach to technical analysis and you are on your way! The prinicpals are the important thing and not any one trading system or method. This book was once cutting edge. Now it's a classic!
Starts Slow But Ends With A Bang!.......2005-09-01
The book is very good after the first couple of chapters. The author makes an attempt to tie the book's content to chaos theory but the connection is not that solid. All the trading dimensions are excellent and I believe the book should focus more on them instead of random references to chaos theory.
Book Description
A groundbreaking collection on currency derivatives, including pricing theory and hedging applications.
"David DeRosa has assembled an outstanding collection of works on foreign exchange derivatives. It surely will become required reading for both students and option traders."-Mark B. Garman President, Financial Engineering Associates, Inc. Emeritus Professor, University of California, Berkeley.
"A comprehensive selection of the major references in currency option pricing."-Nassim Taleb. Senior trading advisor, Paribas Author, Dynamic Hedging: Managing Vanilla and Exotic Options.
"A useful compilation of articles on currency derivatives, going from the essential to the esoteric."-Philippe Jorion Professor of Finance, University of California, Irvine Author, Value at Risk: The New Benchmark for Controlling Market Risk.
Every investment practitioner knows of the enormous impact that the Black-Scholes option pricing model has had on investment and derivatives markets. The success of the theory in understanding options on equity, equity index, and fixed- income markets is common knowledge. Yet, comparatively few professionals are aware that the theory's greatest successes may have been in the derivatives market for foreign exchange. Perhaps this is not surprising because the foreign exchange market is a professional trading arena that is closed virtually to all but institutional participants. Nevertheless, the world's currency markets have proven to be an almost ideal testing and development ground for new derivative instruments.
This book contains many of the most important scientific papers that collectively constitute the core of modern currency derivatives theory. What is remarkable is that each and every one of these papers has found its place in the real world of currency derivatives trading. As such, the contributing authors to this volume can properly claim to have been codevelopers of this new derivatives market, having worked in de facto partnership with the professional traders in the dealing rooms of London, New York, Tokyo, and Singapore.
The articles in this book span the entire currency derivatives field: forward and futures contracts, vanilla currency puts and calls, models for American exercise currency options, options on currencies with bounded exchange rate regimes, currency futures options, the term and strike structure of implied volatility, jump and stochastic volatility option pricing models, barrier options, Asian options, and various sorts of quanto options.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent choice of papers!.......2001-08-18
DeRosa has picked excellent papers. If one reads the papers in detail, the currency derivatives literature, as well as related derivatives literature, becomes very easy to understand.
Comprehensive.......1999-06-19
This book presents highly technical papers on diverse topics from variuous academics. It would be very helpful to anyone looking to understand theoretical aspects of FX derivatives. Since most papers are written by different authors, notation is not consistent. In addition, academics do not always write like Hemingway. Nevertheless, the book covers everyhting from vanillas to exotics very well.
Book Description
In addition to discussing financial and commodity futures and options, this book links them to the physical economy at large, a linkage which is particularly important when one is thinking of physical commodity markets. The book looks at not only the futures of derivative markets, but it also explores the physical markets and the underlying economy.
l Written by leading authors in the field of commodity markets
l Contains numerous up-to-date examples, case studies, and scenarios to assist in gaining an overall understanding
l Covers all aspects of commodity trading, including the inter-relationship between the different functions
Customer Reviews:
some good information, but better avilable elsewhere.......2003-12-27
This book has some solid information, but it is all available elsewhere except some studies on Point & Figure profitability. However, tests in 2002 by djbaker suggested that the profitability of these signals had broken down, so i'm not sure how useful this book really is. Like the previous reviewer, i'd recommend reading the Dorsey book first.
Not the best, but has some nuggets.......2000-07-29
This book outlines, in excruciating detail, how to manage basic point and figure charts. The only part of the book that can't be found on the internet contains subjects on optimizing the charts and recent (ca. 1994-97) analyses of profitability of the charts.
Read Dorsey first (Point and Figure Charting), and if you want to really get deep, read the last couple chapters of this book.

Book Description
Until as recently as the late 1970s, the main channel for oil distribution was the integrated system of the major oil companies, while the volume of spot trading was limited to roughly 5 percent of the total oil trade. Today, spot and spot-related deals account for 80 to 85 percent of internationally traded petroleum, and have ushered in a new era of petroleum trading. In this work, Hossein Razavi and Fereidun Fesharaki offer a detailed study of the workings and issues surrounding today's oil trading market as they apply to all parties involved in the production, distribution, and consumption of petroleum. They provide a complete description of petroleum spot markets, futures, and options trading, and their interlinkages with contract sales. Razavi and Fesharaki cover a wide range of topics, and challenge the generally accepted view that spot and futures trading have wrested the power of price setting away from OPEC. They claim that prices are still determined by supply, which OPEC continues to influence. The book is divided into four sections, beginning with an overview of recent developments in spot, futures, and contract trading. Section two provides an analysis of spot and spot-related deals, while the third section describes the mechanics, organization, and evolution of petroleum futures markets and options trading. The work concludes with an in-depth section on interlinkages, examining the interactions among various segments of the market, including spot and futures trading, petroleum stock building, and OPEC. This book will be a valuable resource tool for libraries as well as a wide range of users, from oil industry professionals and financial analysts to students of energy-related topics.
Customer Reviews:
Not my cup of tea.......2001-06-13
I was looking for an explanation of financial instruments in the petroleum market - APO's, calendar swaps, etc. At best I was hoping for some quantitative background, at worst I was expecting a listing of instruments. This book provides neither.
This book is a short history of petroleum spot and futures markets. Fine if you need it, but terrible if you don't.
Book Description
Combines the expertise of a registered commodity broker and a systems analyst to bring readers up to date on candlestick charting methods. Goes a step beyond existing literature to discuss practical applications of this technique and recommended strategies. Integrates candlestick charts with Western technical indicators and trading methods such as stochastics, Elliott Wave, moving averages and oscillators. Features significant treatment of computer analysis of candlesticks.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent book.......2000-10-01
I also have Gregory Morris, Candlestick Charting Explained published by McGraw-Hill. Morris's book was good, Wagner's book is better. Each of the authors present an analysis of each candlestick and the probable forecast of the future stock/commodities/market trends. While Morris provides interesting background data on each candlestick, the symbols are rather small. Wagner's efforts are directed more toward actual application...using the candlesticks from day to day in our attempt to fathom the next stock or market move. Wagner's charts are large--four symbols to a page. Wagner goes on to advise the reader of the need to run certain other programs (Fibonacci numbers, Bollinger bands) to confirm your interpretation of the meaning of the candlesticks. Where Morris provides a table of specific candlestick frequencies of occurrence, Wagner provides many pages of software code. I applaud the author's intention to enable us to utilize a computer in the process of reading the specific candlestick from a bar chart. However, the code appears similar to what was taught in college in our first class in computers (basic)? A code using Excel or even Lotus 1-2-3 would be more helpful. The book is almost outstanding.
Not worth the paper it is printed on!.......1998-10-14
This book is a lead on for you to buy the authors software program. The software program is worthless and doesn't work. You would be better off spending your money on lottery tickets. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!

Good book for a feel on cross-rates. Unfortunately written before the advent of the EURO, therefore partially osolete nowadays.
Don't spend your money on this book .......2005-06-02
There are better books out there to spend your money on. The copy I have was printed in 1993 and a lot of things have changed since this first edition.
It is useless for individual traders.
You would be better off to buy John Murphy's books; Mark Douglas' books and John L. Person's book.
Just my humble opinion.

All that I got out of reading this book is the idea that the author is a smart, successful person. I haven't the slightest clue as to how anything contained in the book can be used in my (or anybody else's) trading. Also, it is much less than an entertaining read.
