The Sears' Family are geniuses.......2007-09-04
Absolutely LOVED this book! What a great way to raise your child and feel like a great parent too! Every new parent needs to read this incredible book the Sears. I've continued to add every new book they come out with to our library!
Don't misinterpret the meaning of attachment parenting..........2007-06-18
I have noticed by reading a few of the negative reviews for this book people are misinterpreting "ap" as letting your child "rule the roost" and have no boundaries. That is absolutely untrue! The premise of attachment parenting is to follow those instincts that are innate to every parent! I did not, by any means, rub my choices in anyone's face, but because I did practice AP I received a lot of flack from strangers, family members, coworkers etc. It's like the concept intimidated them! My children have strict rules and guidelines and are extremely respectful. They also share better than most children their age and I am a firm believer it is because of the way they are raised. Through attachment parenting we have provided a POSITIVE, well structured environment where both children and parents live in harmony. We don't have to get stressed out as parents screaming and yelling, or setting rigid guidelines because of the mutual respect we share for one another. This book is worth the reading. If not for anything simply "step outside" of our box here in North America and look at how other cultures raise their children...to most of them attachment parenting is a familiar concept.
Loved the book!.......2007-06-07
The Baby Bs of Attachment Parenting guided me when I needed reassurances and information about choices my husband and I already made. While this book explains the importance Baby Bs, such as breastfeeding, babywearing and co-sleeping (if you doubt its safety read this book), it also recognizes that not all Bs fit every family. You have to customize the advice to fit your family's needs. (There is actually a page with tips for AP friendly bottlefeeding.)
The Attachment Parenting Book also addresses discipline somewhat, which should NOT be mistaken as the let-your-child-have-everything approach. And the book warns against moms burning out, telling moms to take care of themselves, take breaks, involve the dads, etc.
This book is great to begin reading before the baby is born or when the baby is tiny, but can be enjoyed at any point up to and into toddlerhood, if you need guidance. I read this book when my child was one year old because I had co-sleeping concerns. This is the only Sears book I read, and now I wish I had read more! I love the Sears' values.
Attached and Loving It!.......2006-11-15
This book gave my husband and I the confidence to follow our hearts rather than the well-meaning albeit but misguided advice of friends and family. Prior to the birth of our son I whole heartedly agree with "crying it out" and other methods touted by baby trainers. However after his birth, we quickly realized that we could not use such heartless methods and began looking at attachment parenting. Dr. Sears encourages parents to trust their instincts which often have a biological basis. This book changed my perspective about babies and parenting. I am so glad that I read this book early on. If you are a new parent or parent-to-be I encourage to read this book and visit Dr. Sear's website (askdrsears.com).
Okay, but duplicate material from Sears' The Baby Book.......2006-11-10
A good concise book, but you can find most of the same material in the Attachment Parenting chapter in Sears' The Baby Book, a much more comprehensive book of the same price.

If the pace of your life or depths of your depression leave you lacking in body and soul, this book can help you feel whole again. Jennifer Louden encourages you to assemble and draw on personal rituals, journals and sanctuaries that can add comfort and breathing space to your life. Some are obvious (herbal baths, flowers) or seem too silly, New Age, or time-consuming to tickle every fancy (blow bubbles in traffic jams, chant affirmations). Many more seem sublime and creative. But that's her point: pick and choose what works best for you, but do take some actions to make your life happier.

much needed.......2005-11-20
I am another who bought *another* copy of this book...someone borrowed mine and I never got it back. Sometimes we need reminded of the little things. This is full of ways to do that and some may sound silly but it works. Have it on gift lists for a few people I know.
writing instructor for healing and self-discovery.......2005-02-28
I keep buying this book over and over - I have given it to friends in crises and at turning points. I can't say enough good things about The woman's comfort book. It is a resource that you will never tire of!!
A treat!.......2003-05-20
I must have given this book half a dozen times as a gift to friends or family members who were in need of a little nurturing, or who needed an excuse to spend a little more time on themselves. This book has dozens of ideas for activities to help you through a day, and even a little categorized index to look for a project based on how you're feeling at the moment.
A real treasure! Give it to a loved one by itself, or in combination with a nice journal or blank book and a couple of fun pens (I recommend purple), and she will know you care about her. Better yet, buy one for yourself.
Wonderful book!.......2000-03-29
This book helped me through a very difficult time in my life. It offers simple ways to learn to treat yourself well. Often women don't give themselves the time they deserve---this book definitely helps. Every woman should own a copy of this book.
Everyone ought to have this book!.......1999-11-18
This book was referred to me about 6 years ago by my psychologist I was seeing at the time. It is the most wonderful book I have ever owned. Guidance on how to comfort your self, mind, and soul from what you will need to get started, whether it is a candle, bubble bath, etc. To how to do the comforting! I have given a copy to all of my girlfriends! (I highly recommend all of Ms. Louden's books) Enjoy!

Learn the nurturing habit now.......2004-01-07
If you're not in the habit of practicing self-care, it's a habit you want to acquire right now -- while you are pregnant -- and this book will teach you exactly how to do it. I read and re-read this book countless times during my pregnancy. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Five stars!
It really is comforting.......2003-09-29
I have come back to this book time and time again during my pregnancy. It really enjoy that it offers a sense of humor and is light-hearted while it also is honest about challenges. It suggests writing assignments and self-nurturing home projects that I never was interested in doing BUT just reading about the common experiences of women was really helpful. Reading this, I never felt alone in what I was feeling.
One of her best.......2003-06-15
I have read a lot of Jennifer Louden's books, and I have to say this is one of my favorites. It speaks to exactly what a woman experiences during pregnancy. Highly recommended.
A wonderful pregnancy companion!.......2001-08-06
The Pregnant Woman's Comfort Book is one of the few pregnancy books out there that addresses the emotional tides a new mother goes through. Yes, it's vitally important to understand the biology of growing a baby, which so many books focus on, but this book has helped keep me sane, grounded, cool, and in love with my daily changing body.
Yuck! Too New Age touchy-feely........2001-07-02
I got this book as a gift -- I surely wouldn't have spent any money on it. It encourages self-absorption, which is never a good thing, and focuses on silly New Age "self-discovery" techniques. I suppose there are always going to be people who eat up this sort of thing, but I for one don't have time for such nonsense. This would be a great gift for a pregnant friend who is into cats, crystals and aromatherapy, but no-nonsense types are not going to like it.
Book Description
"Communicating with your children is at the very heart of parenting. Linda and Richard Eyre continue to reach out to parents with sage advice on nurturing the family's value system. Make a conscious decision to plug into your kid's world. You may not be the only influence in your child's life, but you have to be the biggest."--Dr. Phil McGraw, #1 New York Times best-selling author and host of the TV show Dr. Phil
"The Eyres have created a beautiful new language of natural, nurturing symbols that allow parents and children to communicate in a new and effective way. A truly remarkable book which 'strikes at the root.'"--Stephen R. Covey, Author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families
"Nurturing is not just for parents. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, or anyone who loves a child needs to read this book."--Jane Clayson, ABC News Correspondent
"Mothers have traditionally been the key nurturers in their children's lives. The Eyres' 'natural' approach to principle-centered parenting opens exciting new ways for all of us to nurture family relationships."--Marcia Ford, President, American Mothers Association
The #1 bestselling authors of Teaching Your Children Values show parents how to develop a nurturing environment for their children
All parents want to teach their children good values. But beneath that desire lies a greater need--for a bond of love and trust that keeps children safe, and lets parents participate more fully in their children's lives.
Linda and Richard Eyre, hosts of a monthly segment on the "CBS Early Show," help parents accomplish this in The Book of Nurturing, presenting tools for developing family relationships and turning a house into a home.
They have crafted nine powerful lessons based on stories and parables that can preserve family values and give children a sense of worth and self-esteem, based on:
- Commitment
- Praise, support, and positive affirmation
- Responsibility
- Awareness
- Communication
- Discipline (tough love)
- Consistency
- Security and identity
- Freedom and empowerment
Parents will recognize the wisdom of the nine natural laws and will appreciate the workability of the ideas and application methods. Children will love the images of animals and nature and will feel included and responsive to their parents' initiatives. In a sense, this is a whole new genre of parenting book--written both for parents and for children, giving them a common language of symbols that they can share and use together to build their relationships and strengthen their family.
Customer Reviews:
If "I" like it.... Just get this book-.......2003-07-24
...you won't regret it. I don't usually bother with these kinds of things- my wife bought this one- but this book I can highly recommend. The stories, the lessons the drawings...they are all wonderful. It's a self-help/parenting book for people who don't like self-help/parenting books.
I like the whole nature and animal twist-it "speaks" much better to me than most of these kinds of books (and I'll be honest- I like books with pictures- and so do my two kids!) It's a good book.
Worth Reading Every Year.......2003-06-23
I found "The Book of Nurturing" to be perfectly written and full of wisdom and common sense. Each chapter was profound enough to transform a troubled family, yet simple enough to be adopted with ease. It was delightful to read, yet very clear and concise in its guidance. I plan to read it each year as it will remind me of what is most important in my family.
