Customer Reviews:
Great Reference Book!.......2007-08-13
Being new to any Microsoft Office product, when I purchased Office 2007, I was pretty lost. Microsoft's on-line tutorials were useless, so I purchased Office 2007 for Dummies, thinking I would use it mostly as a reference. It was so well written and easy to understand, I actually read the entire book, and am looking forward to using Publisher and Power Point (I initially purchased Office for Word and Excel). I found working with Office 2007 easy after reading this book, and have had to utilize the book as a reference very minimally. Utilizing the table of contents and index, I can quickly locate what I am looking for. I am sure this book saved me hours of frustration by laying out the concept behind the Office 2007 design, and showing me how to quickly hunt for commands that I know are there (from reading about them in the book). I am sure my learning time was greatly reduced. Great job Peter Werverka!
All in One Desk Reference for Dummies-Office 2007.......2007-07-29
Excellent reference guide for the new Microsoft Office 2007. Without it I would have been stumbling around trying to figure out some of the functions as this new edition is very different.
Great Product!.......2007-07-10
Mail delivery was faster than I thought - and the reference book is being used every day. The manual we got with the program did not explain half of what I needed and this reference is easy and fast!
Extremely Helpful Book!.......2007-06-26
The Office 2007 All-In-One Desk Reference for Dummies is very helpful for someone trying to weather the transition from previous versions of Microsoft Office to the new Microsoft Office 2007. This book not only covers common office applications, but gets into more detail for each program (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, etc.) I would highly recommend this book to anyone who needs an easy-to-follow guide to the new software.
good reference for Office 2007.......2007-06-02
I don't consider myself a "dummie" but this was the 1st book of the dummies series that I have purchased. I purchased it to get acquainted with the new features in Office 2007.
I like the fact that the book has so much information on all the programs in Office 2007; tips, reminders, and warnings.
I won't sit and read the entire book but see using it as I take on projects using the new programs. I did not purchase the on-line version but I am considering that option so I can access the information even when I am at school/work.

Book Description
Quickly learn the most useful features of Microsoft Office 2007 with our easy to read four-in-one guide. This fast-paced book gives you the basics of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access so you can start using the new versions of these major Office applications right away. Unlike every previous version, Office 2007 offers a completely redesigned user interface for each program. Microsoft has replaced the familiar menus with a new tabbed toolbar (or "ribbon"), and added other features such as "live preview" that lets you see exactly what each option will look like in the document before you choose it. This is good news for longtime users who never knew about some amazing Office features because they were hidden among cluttered and outdated menus. Adapting to the new format is going to be a shock -- especially if you're a longtime user. That's where Office 2007: The Missing Manual comes in. Rather than present a lot of arcane detail, this quick & friendly primer teaches you how to work with the most-used Office features, with four separate sections covering the four programs. The book offers a walkthrough of Microsoft's redesigned Office user interface before taking you through the basics of creating text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases with:
- Clear explanations
- Step-by-step instructions
- Lots of illustrations
- Plenty of friendly advice
It's a great way to master all 4 programs without having to stock up on a shelf-load of different books. This book has everything you need to get you up to speed fast.
Office 2007: The Missing Manual is truly the book that should have been in the box.

All-In-One Office Reference.......2007-08-09
'Office 2007: The Missing Manual' by Chris Grover is an absolute gem of a book. With 850+ pages of material covering Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and so much more, this is the definitive reference item for all heavy Office users that want to ramp up as quickly and efficiently as possible. Broken up over 34 chapters, this book logically separates the different applications and uses of the Office program suite. Focusing heavily on not just the use of the apps but the difference with the "ribbon" changes of the 2007 versions, this is another grand slam by the 'Missing Manual' line of books.
The only person that I really couldn't recommend this for is if you are a user of a particular application in the Office suite. For you I would recommend on picking up one of the particular books that delve more into detail than this book does.
Awesome books, incredible job by one of the best book lines out there today.
***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Customer Reviews:
Too many errors in an otherwise good book.......2007-07-13
I had to purchase this book for an on-line class that (unknown to me) expected the students to have a certain level of familiarity and experience with both Microsoft Access and Excel. I have some with Excel, but little with Access. I still managed to grasp what we were learning all right, but no thanks to the book.
The parts that are discussing the programs are well written and the included exercises appear to be well planned out step-by-step guides.
However, once you start doing the exercises, you run into major problems. All during the first chapter (on Excel) I kept finding that commands did not make sense and did not work the way they were supposed to. You are directed to the wrong cell, wrong row, or wrong figure for an example. Some figures that show what you should see in your work have the wrong information.
Luckily, in Chapter 2 (Access, which I am less familiar with than Excel), There aren't quite as many errors, but by that time I was wary of everything.
Continuing on, the errors are not as prevalent as in Chapter 1, but they keep sneaking up on you. Chapter 6 (as far as I am now) has some real doozies. In one long line of a financial formula, the book has a period where there is supposed to be a comma.
All in all, I would say that the errors in the book, and trying to work my way around them without the benefit of being in a classroom with a teacher that can help right away, has added anywhere from 25% to 50% more time onto going through the lessons. The instructor even had to change the due dates on the assignments because of all the errors.
One good thing is that, due to having to spend so much time examining the code and the structure of the lessons, I think I have learned the lessons better than if I just had to follow along the steps without really understanding what I was doing.
All in all, if the publisher does a better job of proofreading and corrects all the technical errors, this would make a good book to use. Since the on-line class is almost completely on your own with little input from the instructor, a step-by-step book like this would be one of the best you could use.
I tried going to the publisher's website to find a list of corrections, but was unsuccessful.
This book has a copyright of 2006 and no edition number associated.
