Medical Manager student edition.......2007-05-06
Im so happy with the book that i recently purchase. Its quick and reliable delivery. Whenever i need a book i always check amazon coz i know i can get it from here. The books are really nice, good and reliable.
Non-Working Disk.......2006-10-10
The disk that came with the book is a data disk only, and does not contain the program that created the data. That is why the data disk is not a workable disk, unless you have The Medical Manager installed on your computer! The book is too geared to be used with the Medical Manager Software Program, and is difficult to read it as a stand alone book.
Version 10.0 is in print now and comes with a CD-Rom which is suppose to have the complete software program and data files so it can be used as it should be, and teach medical billing and office proceedures.

Medical Manager review.......2006-09-16
I am an instructor for the Medical Manager class and have been for over 5 years. I have used almost every version possible with the Medical Manager. This is a fairly good book for students to learn from. As long as the person reads the instructions and then looks at the exercises, they should have NO problems. However, if the person just looks at the exercise and does not read the material, they may have difficulty. Some of the exercise/pictures are different then the actual reading part but not too many. Overall this book makes it fairly simple to learn this program.
not very good.......2006-03-26
Confusing to follow instructions for data entry.
Difficult when errors are made... the student has to get back into the previous units and figure out the correction.
There is an instructor's disk that can bring the correct data in... the student then can continnue from a specific point.
Errors in the student and instructor's text.
Book Description
Companies expect managers to use financial data to allocate resources and run their departments. But many managers can’t read a balance sheet, wouldn’t recognize a liquidity ratio, and don’t know how to calculate return on investment. Worse, they don’t have any idea where the numbers come from or how reliable they really are.
In Financial Intelligence, Karen Berman and Joe Knight teach the basics of finance—but with a twist. Financial reporting, they argue, is as much art as science. Since nobody can quantify everything, accountants always rely on estimates, assumptions, and judgment calls. Savvy managers need to know how those sources of possible bias can affect the financials—and they need to know that sometimes the numbers can be challenged.
While providing the foundation for a deep understanding of the financial side of business, the book also arms managers with practical strategies for improving their companies’ performance—strategies such as “managing the balance sheet” that are well understood by financial professionals but rarely shared with their nonfinancial colleagues.
Accessible, jargon-free, and filled with entertaining stories of real companies, Financial Intelligence will help nonfinancial managers be smarter and more confident in their everyday work.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book ... for beginners only.......2007-06-10
If you have some understanding of finance - even basic - don't expect to learn anything out of this book. I was expecting much more than that given the target audience - "managers" - and the publisher. I doubt that in today's world, a manager wouldn't have some sort of understanding of finance. Nonetheless, the book is well written, explained and organized. I had my analyst read it as an introduction and he liked it a lot.
Clear, interesting, fun.......2007-03-30
I had to buy this book for a fiscal management class. It is probably one of the best management books that I've read. It is really clear. I don't really have a head for finance, but this book makes it simple and entertaining. There are lots of examples from real life. This is a great book if you want to know more about financial vocabulary and basics. Also might be a good brushup, though I was starting from scratch so I wouldn't know.
A good beginning..........2007-03-10
This is an overview of what to look for in balance sheet and income statement as a manager. However, better information resides with cost based accounting around activities(ABC/M). This book is an excellent read for simple information. Not bad for the price!
Fun with managerial accounting.......2007-01-09
I really enjoyed reading "Financial Intelligence" by Karen Berman and Joe Knight. The authors use a fairly casual tone (often humorous) to combine a semester's worth of managerial accounting with a healthy dose of private sector application. The book is a quick read and should be great as an introduction to managerial accounting or a refresher for anyone responsible for managing a P/L at any level.
Very valuable!.......2006-11-11
I highly recommend this book! It's an easy read for non-accountants! This should be in every manager's desk for quick reference. This has helped me a lot in making day-to-day decisions.

Selected as workbook for UC Santa Cruz class.......2007-01-04
For the future presentations of the University of California Extension Sarbanes-Oxley class, we selected this volume and CDROM as the workbook. The earlier textbook was too high-level and theoretical. The head of the Finance and Accounting department was quick to approve the change. The participants in the class include both accounting and IT professionals; they will appreciate the very practical nature of this volume.
Toolkit That More Than Pays for Itself.......2005-09-20
One of the unintended consequences of subscribing to a Sarbanes-Oxley Listserv is seeing how many auditors, and companies, are struggling with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. There has been a lot of uncertainty for auditors, and companies, as what is required and how to go about setting up an effective audit plan and making compliance repeatable, sustainable reality. I have seen more calls of help for toolsets in this Listserv than I wish there were, but that has been the reality. However, there is now an outstanding resource to help external, internal auditors, and companies get their acts together by streamlining the 404 compliance process.
Michael Ramos, author of the excellent "How to Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404: Assessing the Effectiveness of Internal Control", has now written "The Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 Implementation Toolkit: Practice Aids for Managers and Auditors" (357 pages, John Wiley and Sons, 2005, ISBN 0471712256. This is not a book to sit down and read. This is a book that, from cover to cover, provides worksheets, sample documents, and decision criteria for their use. It is a book that comes with a CD-ROM of the entire documentation contents that will more than pay for itself from the first day you have it in your hands.
It is hard to look at a book like this and say "I like or do not like what the author has to say", or that "I really like the author's writing style". What you need to look at in deciding whether or not to purchase this book, is a series of questions.
Do you have to conduct Section 404 audits as part of an external audit or as part of a control self-assessment? Do you need ready to go and completely customizable templates to help you in this process? Do you want to use tools developed by an experienced Certified Public Accountant, instead of having to sit down and spend days on end developing your own toolsets and work paper templates? How much non-billable time are you willing to spend developing these tools? Do you want an easy to understand methodology that can easily be taught and passed on to other employees as part of a knowledge transfer and enablement program?
If you are like me, these questions will give you the easy answer of "Yes!". All of the documents provided on the CD ROM are in word format, and the disk also contains a Microsoft Word document viewer and a copy of Open Office. Each form comes with a purpose statement to understand its use, as well as instructions on how to use them. Ramos starts with the general work program and takes the process all the way to the end with management reports. There is also a sample general audit program.
Who Should Read This Book
The purchase of this book should be a no-brainer for internal and external auditors, managers, and consultants doing SarBox work. I add this latter group because there are too many consultants out there who are telling clients things that are not quite accurate. This book should help them provide better services.
really a practical guide.......2005-08-24
this book provides very detailed content for SOX issues. Since the Act itself is quite complicated, so more detailed the better. I think this book really helps.

If You're Jumping Ship from ACT!, this is for you ! .......2007-08-28
Lon Ornstein might have co-authored a Dummies' book, but he's no dummy. His company is a well-known third-party developer of CRM enhancments - first with the ACT! product line and now Outlook 2007/BCM. Like all Dummies' books, this one is easy to read and understand, and gets right to the "meat" of using BCM. Highly recommended if you're trying to make the switch from ACT!, or if you need to extend the capabilities of Outlook 2007 for a small-midsize business.

The author send you the certificate as promised.
36 hours?.......2007-05-02
Business Basics Bestseller 1: The Easy, Interesting, Open-book Look at the Game of Business Numbers! 2nd Edition
If the prospect of spending 36 hours going over finance and accounting stuff in the privacy of your own home doesn't excite you, but you still want to get into F&A, consider this option -- "Business Basics Bestseller 1."
This gem of a book, at less than 150 pages (with sketches!), can give you a basic start on understanding business and its numerical underpinnings -- F&A. You'll find that BBB#1 is clear, concise, and easy to understand and you can finish each chapter in 30 - 60 minutes (there are six chapters). The author doesn't assume you know anything more about business than what you would if you opened checking and savings accounts and owned a car. The book is not simplistic, just straightforward. Don't consider the BBB #1 book a replacement for 36 good hours with McGraw Hill, just take a look at it first -- you can always buy both.
Great book, worthless on-line exam close to fraud.......2007-04-11
The book is great, and a big thank you to the writers. When it came to the on-line exam and certification, I am still strugeling with the Mc-graw hill support. After sending them two emails I finaly got to the exam on the internet: [...].
BUT, after I finished the exam, they basicly just said thank you and good bye. What I wanted when I passed the test with 90% was a form where I could enter my adress so they could send me the certificate, but no no. Two emails later, I havent heard a word from them yet. Mc-graw hill - this sux and if feels like you are close to commiting fraud when it is so difficult to first find the exam and impossible and close to impossible to get the certificate. This was not what I expected when I saw "Earn certificate of achievement through the free on-line examination" on the book cover. Without this trubble, the book would easily get five stars.
A good start.......2006-11-16
Very helpful for the student thinking of pursuing a degree in finance. If you have no finance or business experience, this is a good place to start.
Not as bad as a root canal.......2006-08-31
I'm not a finance person nor do I plan to be one in the future. Will working in sales for the past 10 years I have become more aware of what I don't know and finance is surely one of those areas. This book covers the basic's of the financial world without putting you into a comma. The homework at the end of each chapter gets to be a bit of a pain since I was looking for the "concept" not trying to become an accountant. The best part of the book is it starts basic and builds off of that throughout the book which helped me understand some of the more complex financial terms. Good book for someone trying to get up to speed quick.
Book Description
This book has two significant advantages relative to other books and software on the topic of valuation. First, the expository approach of the authors is very user-friendly, with a pedagogy designed to build confidence. They begin with a very simple, but complete example in the first couple of chapters that takes the reader through the valuation of a company. They repeat the analysis for a slightly more complicated company in chapters 3-4. A repeat of the analysis is then completed in chapters 5-8 for an even more complicated company. This iterative approach allows the reader to absorb digestible amounts of material before moving on to the next level of complication. The second pedagogic advantage is the structure of their spreadsheet valuation model. They show the reader how to get real world data, and how to cut-and-paste it into their spreadsheet. The spreadsheet simplifies the complex accounting found in most actual companies' financial statements and condenses it into a simplified set of standardized financial statements. This allows the user to concentrate on the fundamental economic forces that underlie a company's value.

In depth.......2007-09-16
Great book. Really goes into detail. If you've read Essential Microsoft Operations Manager, you'll certainly be pleased with how this book expands on these concepts.
Should be required reading for anyone managing with MOM 2005.......2007-01-02
This is the book that bridges the gaps between product documentation, how the product works and how to use the product in a real world deployment.
As an avid MOM administrator, this is one of the rare books that is like having an experienced consultant with you to answer questions. MOM can be a complicated tool. Often people will be frustrated with attempting to deploy and manage using MOM. I highly recommend reading this book prior to deployment. The $60.00 price tag is nothing when compared to the hours you will spend tuning and attempting to understand MOM without it.
offers top level and fine grained control.......2006-12-22
The complexity of Microsoft Operations Manager is attested to by the sheer bulk of this book. Some readers must surely wonder why any text on any computer program can be so hefty? But to a large extent, MOM's complexity is a consequence of the complexity of systems administration of the Microsoft operating systems and the ancillary packages deployed on top of these, like SQL Server and Exchange. At tremendous effort, Microsoft has built up an entire ecosystem of packages and operating systems. And there are many books devoted to each component.
But MOM's remit is to offer an integrated top level, and yet fine-grained approach, to managing the entire offering. Typically, the reader of this book will be a sysadmin of one, and in fact usually several, corporate computers. If you just have a personal computer running a Microsoft operating system, you are unlikely to need MOM.
Readers from a unix background might recognise an analogy between MOM and IBM's SMIT. The latter was a GUI tool that ran on AIX (IBM's version of unix), and greatly eased the managing of the often intricate AIX commands. But SMIT only really dealt with running the operating system. MOM also offers control of those above-mentioned sundry packages atop the operating system. So MOM is far more complicated.
A quick measure of MOM's complexity is given in Chapter 14. Where MOM's intelligence is embedded in its rule sets. With the default rule set having over 5000 rules, that pertain to what is recommended (or not) for the platforms and applications. Strewth! Happy reading. :)

Product Description
CCH Accounting for Leases analyzes FASB Statement No. 13, Accounting for Leases, which was released in November 1976, and the numerous successive Interpretations, Technical Bulletins, and Emerging Issue Task Force consensus issues that have been issued since then. Since Statement's 13 issuance, the FASB has amended the Statement 18 times, issued 6 Interpretations, and 12 Technical Bulletins. Further, the EITF has addressed leasing transactions in more than 30 different Issues (excluding issues related to consolidations of special purpose entities). This publication delves into the complex nature of the criteria set through defining a lease and determining whether it should be accounted for as a sale/purchase or as an operating lease. CCH Accounting for Leases also includes various interpretations and commentary related to investment tax credits (ITC) in the event ITC is reinstated in the future.
Book Description
Global M & A activity continues at a blistering pace. However, a recent study of Fortune 500 executives found that postmerger integration issuessuch as culture clashes, style, ego, and change managementare the most common pitfalls that can derail otherwise successful mergers or acquisitions. M & A Integration meets that trend head-on, providing a practical framework for integrating acquisitions while helping managers direct each step in the volatile postmerger integration process.
Customer Reviews:
M&A Integration : A Framework for Executives and Managers.......2007-08-11
Well written ... a valuable tool for a CEO considering a Merger or Acquisition ... the "cultural integration" is very well done.
A helpful place to start with an important theme.......2003-02-26
Participating as a senior manager in my first large merger (Prudential/Wachovia), I found this book a helpful guide. It is a bit of a primer, so it will probably not appeal to old M&A hands; however, any MBA can tell you about discounted cash flow analysis, but few CEOs have mastered the art and science of integration, which is the focus of this book.
The glamor is in the deal making: late nights with the lawyers and bankers. But most (most!) mergers fail to yield their expected value because the unglamorous job of integration is largely ignored during the deal and often mishandled afterwards.
Schweiger's theme is that integration is paramount to ultimate success and it must begin at or before valuation and due diligence, and it must be integrally woven into every step and every process.
The book is readable, logically organized and helpful.
Clothing the Emperor.......2003-02-24
As David Schweiger is the first to admit, M&A activity often turns out to be a source of value only to shareholders in the acquired company. In other words, it is much easier to put a value on potential synergies, increased market share and cost-savings than it is to capture any of these items. This book, written with both pragmatic bottom-line sense as well as compassion for the millions of employees affected by M&As each year, offers an extremely practical guide to capturing that elusive value. M&A can be a bad case of the Emperor having no clothes - a strategy based upon benefits that simply won't ever materialise, something the individual memebers of the crowd may be able to see perfectly well but which they would never dare to admit. Here is an alternative to the cynicism that often accompanies M&A; following Schweiger's methodology might just end with the Emperor being more than halfway decent... There is also an excellent guide to personal survival in an uncertain corporate world. Every manager should have a copy.
