Book Description
In this era of globalization, outsourcing has emerged as a key strategy not only for achieving competitive advantage but also for survival. However, despite widespread adoption, there are few practical guidelines in the market regarding how to optimally manage outsourced projects. Global Outsourcing with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System teaches managers, developers, and SQA professionals how to successfully execute outsourced projects. Providing best practices guidelines based upon empirical experience of leading practitioners in the outsourcing industry, the book shows how to construct result-oriented development processes for mitigating execution risk, improving quality, and increasing efficiency. A fine technical overview programmers will relish........2006-11-05
Jamil Azher's GLOBAL OUTSOURCING WITH MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 2005 TEAM SYSTEM tells how to manage outsourced projects using Visual Studio 2005, which engages developers, project managers and team leads alike. GLOBAL OUTSOURCING takes it examples from the real world also: it examines typical outsource management issues, applications, and problem-solving in a fine technical overview programmers will relish.
Excellent Book.......2006-08-30
Global Outsourcing with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System is an excellent book and informational resource. The format is easy to follow, intuitive, and simplifies gaining an understanding of both the concept of global outsourcing as well as the software.
A Software Assist to Communications........2006-08-23
This book is indeed about global outsourcing, but it deals with the outsourcing of software not athletic shoes or kitchen ware. Specifically, as you might guess from the title, it concentrates on the use of Microsoft's Team System version of Visual Studio 2005. Other Microsoft products such as Project and Excel from the Office suite are also shown as a part of an integrated management system.
There is little question tht outsourcing is here to stay. The cost savings are simply to great to be ignored. A programmer with a few years of experience in the US is paid an average of $55K, in India $15K, and in China $9K.
There is also no question that outsourcing brings its own problems in terms of management, control and especially communications. Many of these problems are specifically discussed in the book, and it goes on to show that the Microsoft tools can assist in these areas. The tools will not, of course, guarantee success but they may help to make a project a success.

Explains more than 20 design options and associated replenishment techniques so that you can custom fit your kanban system. Is the only text that thoroughly deals with both the design and implementation of a kanban system -- all in a single source. This book will provide you with design options and implementation methods so that you can create and apply your own unique -- and successful -- kanban system.
Customer Reviews:
Another Insightful Book by Mr. Louis.......2006-10-11
This is an outstanding book if you are planning to implement kanban. It breaks down the kanban system into 25 design options where you select kanban technique based upon your environment. The techniques selected work together in forming a kanban system that is designed for your plant. This is an exceptional book.
Practical Application of Kanban.......2006-10-03
This book was exactly what I needed to improve productivity in my business. It was not a one size fits all kanban design process but rather guided the reader in the appraisal of their own unique environment. After reading this book, I realized that kanban in and of itself does not make a world class system but rather it is selecting the appropriate kanban techniques for the specific environment that creates a great system.
Great for those in kanban management positions.......2006-10-01
This book is without question the most thorough and insightful work on designing a kanban system that I have read. The implementation aspects of this book are truly powerful as it not only explains the appropriate implementation steps but also demonstrates how to determine the anticipated inventory levels prior to implementing kanban. As someone who has personally managed a kanban replenishment system, this book is a must read.
Book Description
Written for non-experts in jargon-free language, this work shows how to create systems within organizations that preempt the monetary, strategic, and emotional costs associated with on-the-job conflict. Its clear and simple approach translates advanced concepts into practical how-tos and provides readers with four guiding principles they can follow to create conflict control systems of their own. Amply illustrated with real-world examples, it details the policies, procedures, and practices that make for successful control systems and tells precisely how to implement them.
Customer Reviews:
Using collaboration to meet the challenge of conflicts........1999-03-02
This work offers an approach to controlling costs through building collaborative strength for prevention and early intervention. The authors show that there are four basic approaches, each appropriate in given circumstances, but only one-collaboration-that holds the potential of win-win outcomes. However, most organizations over-use approaches that employ avoidance, authority and power, which tend to prove costly, rather than develop and employ systems that promote collaborative resolution and end conflicts from escalating into expensive disputes. The authors take a highly realistic approach to their subject. The book is rich in substantive ideas and method. It provides detailed guidelines for building a system and applying the principles the authors champion. An excellent contribution, worthy of your attention.

"
Customer Reviews:
Great Project Book.......2004-01-12
This is, out of several project engineering books I have referred to, the most straightfoward, well written, logical, and useful texts about projects, and project engineering. It does not get into complex project theory (useless bull), but rather gives good, in depth, practical advice, in a relatively small book. This book is not only good for the information about computerized management system, it's good information about projects in general.
Great reference for project managers........1998-01-01
This book is a great refererence for anyone who is responsible for managing multiple, small, concurrent, fast-track projects. This is a very understandable and well written book. Westney gives thurough detail of all of the basics of project management. He shows how project management software packages can be used to organize and simplify the complex network of aspects that must be managed in projects. One of the best things about this book is that the author avoids being product specific in regard to software application.

Book Description
This book covers the design and improvement of single and multistage production systems. Following the standard production planning and scheduling decision hierarchy, it describes the inputs and outputs at each level of the decision hierarchy and one or more decision approaches. The assumptions leading to each approach are included along with the details of the model and the corresponding solution. Modern system concepts and the engineering methods for creating lean production systems are included.
Customer Reviews:
very good book for Production.......2005-09-16
This book is very good, Askin defines very well what Lean Production Systems are (page 352 and on), don't believe the above reviews, they didn't read the book in detail. Of course the book has a broad range of things, because is oriented for Industrial Engineers. I have it as one of the guide books for one of my courses and it fits very well.
Lean Production??.......2005-08-30
This is more a text book with a general approach. The focus is not on Lean.
The formulas in the book are given with very little explanation; I would hate to be in a class where this book is used as the basis for instruction.
I hoped to find a lot of detailed information about Lean production systems but the book has too much other topics to be valuable as an aid to design and/or implement Lean production systems.
The title is misleading and the practioner looking for either theoretical or practical information about Lean production systems will be dissapointed in what he finds in the book.
A Handbook of Material Management in Lean Production.......2002-11-30
This book contains a lot of formulas and its origin. Many examples are used to explain the formula in detail. Besides that, there are many study cases in the end of every chapter. This explanation on the formula, its origin, examples and study cases is the streght of this book.
The weakness of this book is that it discusses a broad topics, From inventory to forecast, from supply chain to Just In time.
This broad topic makes this book has no focus at all.
Furthermore, this book doesn't define the definition of "Lean Production Systems" well. After I read this book, the question of 'What is a Lean Production Systems' is still not clear.
The other weakness is that this book emphasises on the material flow very much. Shortly this book is rather logistic management (in internal company) than manufacturing / process management.

What you can do with overhead ?.......1999-10-20
This book gives us a good idea from the advanced industries nowadays. How they could have a competitive advantage? It can help you to look the world outside. Of course that if you want to apply this concept you'll need something deeper. However, if you are a beginner, you can have good moments from recent news and concepts of the companies.
