Book Description
Whittington/Pany’s Principles of Auditing, is a market leader in the auditing discipline and the only text in this market which uses the balance sheet approach (vs. the cycles approach). Until October 2002, Ray Whittington was a member of the Audit Standards Board and prior to Ray being on the ASB Kurt Pany was on the board. This has had a major impact on this revision of the text as Whittington has been involved in the audit standards creation process. Principles of Auditing presents concepts clearly and proactively monitors changes in auditing making the relationship between accounting and auditing understandable. The 15th edition maintains the organization and balance sheet orientation, while adding and enhancing topics of Risk, Assurance Services, Fraud, E-Commerce, and the latest auditing standards to meet the needs of the current marketplace.
Book Description
Messier employs the audit approach currently being used by auditing professionals. This approach is a direct result of the demands of Sarbanes-Oxley, which has changed the way auditors do their jobs. The approach emphasizes understanding the entity (i.e., the organization or business being audited) and its environment (i.e. industry), and then assessing the business risks faced by the entity and how management controls those risks. This audit process focuses on business processes instead of accounting cycles. This unique and innovative approach has been developed in response to changing market dynamics. The systematic approach, referred to in the subtitle of the text, reflects the early introduction of three basic concepts that underlie the audit process: materiality, audit risk, and evidence; this allows Messier to build upon this model in subsequent chapters. These are central to everything an auditor does and a unique feature of Messier. As such, this approach helps students develop auditor judgment, a vital skill in today’s auditing environment.

Book Description
The Science of Getting Rich is a classic inspirational and financial book authored by Wallace D. Wattles. This book works as a guide to individuals who are interested in uncovering the secrets of getting rich through strategies and case studies. A timeless title such as this one should not be passed up by anybody who is interested in learning how to become wealthy. This book has often been compared to the Napoleon Hill book, Think and Grow Rich, and works well as a companion to that title.
Download Description
This book will without any doubt change your life, by changing your mind about the concept of "money". So many of us were brought up with the idea of money as a finite resource, which you had to compete for. This book is desgined to release every preconcieved idea that is holding us all back from wealth. The basic premise of this book is that becoming wealthy is a science, that once understood, and replicated will create wealth in everyone's life. Wealth is as infinite as the creative mind. Create ideas, take action and abundance will flow.

This is it........2007-09-21
I have long experienced aspects of this teaching without ever realizing it. When you finally get into the whys and hows of this idea, you too should see very clearly what I am suggesting.
I particularly like the references to Christ and his teachings. It may seem contrary at first, stick to it. Jesus told us we could do these things if we only had the slightest bit of faith.
Enjoy.
"If your day is a failure...then you are a failure.".......2007-09-03
I am a huge Secret fan & good thing Byrne only took a few excerpts from this book/CD otherwise we would have people depressed convinced they are a failure. Not enlightening, not inspiring.
quick delivery.......2007-08-21
haven't got a chance to read it yeat but it came in the mail very quickly.
No more Excuses.......2007-08-13
Now there are no more excuses to getting rich as it is all here in black and white. I have seen some negative reviews here about this book, But I have to believe those writing negatively on it have not grasped the positive simplicity of what Mr. Wattles is trying to convey. Yes, maybe it is 100 years old, but I would have to say if the book was as irrelevant as some people are claiming that it would no longer even be in print. I also did not see as some others did, that all you have to do is visualize wealth and it will automatically come to you. No, if it were that easy we would all have tons of cash on hand. Visualization is a very important part of the puzzle, according to Wattles, but you cannot just sit around expecting your bank account to grow. I believe he stresses the fact that you need to go out and do the footwork once you have visualized the desired result. Your intention on getting rich will set the universe in motion to bring the right people and circumstances to your door, but if you are not there to open the door and meet the universe halfway, then you will not get anything, let alone rich. I believe this book is as vital and timely now as when it was first published.
Nice to believe BUT NOT SO SURE.......2007-07-27
I do believe most of us have the ability to get rich if we want to (with dedication and work) BUT The Secret and The Science of Getting rich is a bit sketchy. At first I loved it I thought it was wonderful and did everything to a T. I had positive results, but they use techniques that will work: Visualize your goal; Of course if you put focus in your goal it will benefit you. BUT TO SAY THERES THIS STUFF FLOATING AROUND THATS MANIPULATED BY OUR THOUGHTS???
It's nice to believe we can just sit around and visualize and have everything we want these aren't book's there entertainment! I do believe human potential is unlimited BUT there more to it then just believing.

Customer Reviews:
Cahill's Environmental Auditing Textbook Review.......2007-09-09
Overall, it is a very useful textbook offering a generic approach to environmental audits which can easily be expanded to health, safety and security issues. The author(s) does a very thorough job in discussing the activities and protocols involved with the 3 phases of the auditing process: 1. Pre-audit Phase; 2. On-site Audit Phase; and 3. Post-Audit Phase. The textbook utilizes the input from several different authors which results in some duplication of information, but repetition is good in this much changing field.
Needs to be updated and expanded with respect to a few more current issues: Impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley law, current ISO 14001 issues, plus some others. A more detailed chapter on Root-Cause Analysis would be beneficial with more examples. This type of analysis seems to be the most prevalent in deciding upon Corrective Actions and Recommendations needed to mitigate future deficiencies of a similar nature.
An instructor's manual containing some general or specific discussion questions for each chapter would also be helpful. The references contained within each chapter are useful. Placing current "Insights" - articles or case law relevant to the chapter material would also enable the authors to keep current with fewer new chapters in subsequent editions. More sample examples of Audit Instruments (checklists) and detailed suggestions for Corrective Action follow-up would be useful.
This textbook is currently being used at the Master's level assuming little or no pre-requisite knowledge of the auditing process. It is being taught in on-campus and on-line classes.

The Best Auditing Book Available.......2004-05-19
During the 16 years that I have taught Financial Auditing at the university level I have been constantly on the lookout for the best available book. I chose Whittington & Pany because (1) it is succinct, (2) it presents auditing concepts clearly (although the authors do sugar coat the accounting scandals of the past 20 years and fail to give credit where credit is due by naming the firms involved in them), (3) the page layout is attractive and easy to read, and most importantly (4) my students preferred it over other texts (one student told me that she chose my class after looking through the assigned texts for all of the Auditing sections, an excellent idea).
The current (15th ed.) has been brought up to date with a limited discussion of Sarbanes-Oxley and the PCAOB.
The material is obviously dry, but I found that it was possible to make my classes more interesting by incorporating newspaper accounts of the more egregious audit failures in the assigned readings, and by being honest about the arrogance, greed and stupidity that are all too typical of the accounting profession today. This practice has brought complaints by the local offices of the major firms, to which my department head replied that they are welcome to come speak to the classes to explain their side of the story. To date, they have not accepted the invitation.
Whittington and Pany ROCK!!!!!.......2001-05-08
Let me tell ya! What do you get when you combine Whittington, Pany, and Auditing? It's just a boatload of accounting fun!!! These guys know how to put together a book on auditing. This thing is a real page turner. Damn! Attestation really rocks but Assurance Services will just blow your mind. Even if your're not an accountant, this is a great read. I understand the 13th edition is already a red hot item, so grab a copy today before they're all sold out. This is the one book you'll definitely want to have with you if you're traveling and you have room in your back pack for just one book. Read it, then read it again and again. Seriously, you can't put this thing down. It's THAT good! You'll be talking about it with your friends and family for years to come. Can't wait for someone to turn this puppy into an offering for the big screen. That would be sweeeet!!!

Great Book for Targeted Learning.......2007-10-03
The CISA exam is written in a way to reflect the choices an auditor faces. What's best, what's the most preferred, etc., tend to be the types of questions one faces. (The CISA exam is not going to ask the test sitter, what is the best in a given environment, as that would be too ridiculous to measure.) As such, people often find the test confusing, because they want to read too much into the questions.
I picked this book up the week before the CISA exam and targeted my reading toward those areas in which I had the least experience (e.g. SDLC, etc) and I passed. That was it! Although not perfect, the book is readable and focused. There are some decent example questions at the back of the book that will prepare one for the types of questions on the test.
Good CISA study guide.......2007-09-11
This book is easy to read and it helps to study for the exam especially if you have CISA exam question CD.
I highly recomend it (and exam question CD too).
Good book, used it and passed Dec 2006 Exam. I am a CISA thanks to this book.......2007-08-15
Good book, used it and passed Dec 2006 Exam on my first attempt. I am a CISA, thanks to this book. The details are just what you need, the authors a did a good job, i recommend it to my brother and friends for Dec 07 Exams, and i talk about it to whoever care to listen.
A book does not need to be a hard core to be good, simple easy and straight forward that is why i like it. it gives you the details,it is a good manual.
Used it to pass the June 2007 exam.......2007-08-10
I just found out that I passed the June 2007 exam. I used 2 items to study.
This book and the question and answer database from ISACA.
First, do not try to use this book alone.
Second, dont even waste your time with the practice questions at the end of the chapter. You will never see questions like those on the exam.
Third, I would recommend the question and answer database. You will see questions like those on the exam.
After using this book and the Q&A database, the test was not that hard. I was not surprised by any questions.
Good study guide, but not enough for the exam.......2007-06-23
I took the exam two weeks ago and did really good. I would recommend studying ISACA's CISA review questions in addition to this book. Reading this book alone will not help you pass the exam. The concepts are well explained but the questions in the book are nothing like the ones in the exam.
Good luck

Good.......2007-01-29
This was a good review only in that it did not come with the workbook I needed for the class as well. If the workbook would have came with the book then I would have rated it a 5.
A great book.......2006-07-16
I have been an auditor for the last seven years and I can assure you that Prof. Arens book is excellent. Even if you have a working experience with audits you will find that this book is not the usual "text book"
Very good textbook.......2005-06-24
No textbook is really worth 5 stars, in my estimation, because that is reserved for books that actually entertain me! Textbooks seldom do that. However, this auditing text is pretty darn good.
Each chapter is packed with true case studies, which are all interesting. The actual text material is easy to understand and read. There are HOARDS of questions, simulations, etc. in the back of each chapter. And the online materials the come with it are good as well, including some basic videos.
I came into my auditing class with little knowledge of that specific subject. I felt I left it some weeks later with a good understanding (good enough to pass the Auditing portion of my CPA exam on the first go around). So if you're assigned this text for YOUR auditing class, be happy. It's pretty good, and won't put you instantly to sleep...not many texts can say that!!
Book Description
Information Technology Control and Audit, Second Edition is an excellent introductory textbook for IT auditing. It covers a wide range of topics in the field including the audit process, the legal environment of IT auditing, security and privacy, and much more. This textbook first examines the foundation of IT audit and control, discussing what IT auditing involves and the guidance provided by organizations in dealing with control and auditability issues. It then analyzes the process of audit and review, explores IT governance and control, and discusses the CobiT framework and steps that align IT decisions with business strategy. This volume examines project management processes that ensure that projects are controlled from inception through integration. It continues by addressing auditing IT acquisition and implementation, describing risks and controls as related to the life cycle of application systems. It highlights the purchase and installation of new systems, as well as change management. The next section examines the auditing of IT operations in both standalone and global environments, covering types of IT operation, issues related to specific platforms, risk and control assessment, and audit methods and support tools. The textbook concludes with a review of emerging issues, providing undergraduate and graduate students with a thorough overview of a topic critical to organizational security and integrity.
Customer Reviews:
Not good for the CISA exam.......2007-10-02
I bought this book as an additional material to study for the CISA exam. However it didn't help me with the exam at all. Furthermore, in an attempt to cover many things, it did not cover anything in detail. This book is just an endless recollection of bullet points. On top of that, it misses very sensitive topics like disaster recovery planning.
Useful reference material.......2007-02-02
This book has some material relevant to the CISA examination based on the 2003 content areas, although it is not organized or focused as a CISA examination guide. If you are looking for CISA review material for the test, I would strongly suggest to stick with ISACA's combination of review manual and questions CD. I also searched everywhere for study aids for this grueling test and ended up using ISACA's expensive material, but it proved to be the best choice as I passed the Dec 2006 test.
However, as owner of a copy of this book, I assure you that this is an excellent reference of IT management, planning, implementation, risk assessment and control procedures for anyone in the IT business. Most of the material is still relevant as of 2007.
Finally a usable explanation of controls!.......2006-12-30
Audit is not the most exciting topic in the world, but this no fluff book really sets the standard. The care the authors took is obvious from the start, the table of contents is one of the most detailed I have ever seen, it allows the book to be used as a reference.
My favorite chapter was Quality Management, best job of making quality approachable I have seen to date. My least favorite was Project Management, it seemed to lack the application and lean to theory a bit.
I am not an auditor, but as an auditee, this book really helped me understand how they think. Recommended!
Too thin.......2006-03-24
This is a huge book but spends no more then 1 page on any topic. In my opinion the authors only have financial audit experience and little understanding of IT controls. This book shows the failure of the 'integrated auditor' as the authors are tyring to be IT auditors with little IT experience. They touch on some very good points in a few instances and, in general, the book is decent. The authors do not know much outside of the CISA, IIA and financial based certifications as they seem to think that the ISSA (Information Systems Security Assoc.) is sponsored by ISC2/CISSP's (it is not). Overall, I have not been impressed with this book.
Great resource.......2005-12-13
Not having much experience in the IT audit field, this book was a great resource and was easy to understand.
