Network Security Bible.......2006-03-21
The material nicely complements the network security studies in my Cisco Academy courses. I think it will be a very useful book.
Great Book, But.................2005-05-31
This is a great book; it goes in great detail about security in all aspects of the computer industry. However it lacks one critical aspect, how do I do that? Like all network and computer professionals, I do not know everything, so when you tell me I should do something a certain way I'd hope that you will also tell me how to do it. With this book I found myself saying, maybe they will tell me what to do later, over and over, never happens. If you want to buy a book that's a reference manual, this is the one to get. If you are looking for a "how to" as well as a "what to look for" book, consider looking elsewhere.
Excellent .......2005-03-14
I have seen Eric Cole numerous times at SANS conferences. His talks are great, and so is this book of his
You donot want to miss this.......2005-01-13
This book covers in-depth security issues in networks ranging from theoretical aspects, their practical implications to solutions adopted. The authors have done a good job in covering all aspects of security in modern day networks. It is an indispensable handbook for a security professional at any level.
Only the best from the best!.......2005-01-13
This book is a great overall, comprehensive review of network security. It covers a wide variety of issues in detail that security professionals face everyday. The author team is some of the best in the industry and as usual they delivered a great book!

Already finding ideas for my job from this book........2002-10-28
Network security is fast becoming a most important job. It is imperative that you know the right way, the best way and if your equipment is Cisco, the Cisco way. This book may very well the bible for Cisco Security policy.
The authors have put together some of the best work on ACL and firewall using PIX. The detail is nothing short of amazing and their ability to make the subject matter is also a plus for this book.
One area that I am not all that familiar with is the CISCO AAA, but after reading the 70 pages, I was amazed at amount of information included and also how important AAA is to creating a high secure network.
There also detailed coverage of VPN technologies, the only thing I found strange was that networking basics is at the end of book rather than the beginning. There are review questions at the end of each chapter and about a half dozen labs to work with.
Not written o any specific exam, this book can and should help with all Cisco security exams as well as several industry exam like Security+. Overall some of the best reading and learning I have all year.
Excellent book.......2002-10-17
With so many books on Cisco products it is difficult to decide which one to buy. Believe me...this one is the best.....While most books concentrate on one kind of Cisco products...this books talks about all....so u don't need to buy 2 or 3 books if you want to know about all the products....And the best part is that this book has the configuration and installation procedures for ALL products......
Excellent WIDE coverage of MANY areas........2002-03-27
This is a great value and thus a must-buy. It's unfortunate that Amazon doesn't have a TOC, so people can see all the numerous topics covered (and the topics do seem to be covered in good detail). I think it covers every of a couple dozen relevant topics. There are 2 chapters at the end (appendix?) which cover the basics of networking, which is either a plus if you can use this, or just ignore them if you're a "heavy". And there's an interesting substantial QUIZ chapter/appendix.
I'm SURE you'll be glad you bot this one!
An excellent book on Cisco security.......2002-03-18
This is an excellent book on Cisco security. The book has number of real-life examples and scenarios. The book provides concise information on almost all security products available. A great book for Network administrators!
Bible in real sense. Thank u Authors.......2002-03-15
I am a network administrator and really found it difficult to find all security related information in one book. There have been times when I have ended up purchasing various books but in vain. This book is a bible in real sense. It provides security information right from basics to advanced topics. Gives a network administrator strong understanding of concepts. Thank u authors.

From A to Z.......2003-02-21
each chapter give you a step to start an online Investment
it give you all small detail.
it can be a starter even for the beginner in Trading.
Encyclopedic coverage with high readability.......2001-01-25
This fine (and fat) book is just the thing for people who currently trade online or those who are considering it. It provides a nice assortment of screen shots of useful sites to become familiar with and concludes each chapter with a concise summary in list format. The book is 823 pages long but still doesn't go far enough on specialist topics. But this book is a comprehensive and carefully constructed primer on the entire waterfront from Stocks to Bonds to Mutual Funds and of course to the particulars and precautions of setting up an account, making trades, gathering timely information etc. I like that it doesn't take an AOL-centric point of view because that would be too limiting. If you are interested in Online Investing, buy this book and supplement it with a subscription to "Online Investing" magazine (monthly) which would bring you up to date on new developments and also cover special topics with more depth.

Product Description
History: Fiction or Science? is the most explosive tractate on history ever written - however, every theory it contains, no matter how unorthodox, is backed by solid scientific data. The book is well-illustrated, contains over 446 graphs and illustrations, copies of ancient manuscripts, and countless facts attesting to the falsity of the chronology used nowadays, which never cease to amaze the reader. Eminent mathematician proves that: Jesus Christ was born in 1153 and crucified in 1186 The Old Testament refers to mediaeval events. Apocalypse was written after 1486. Does this sound uncanny? This version of events is substantiated by hard facts and logic - validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources - to a greater extent than everything you may have read and heard about history before. The dominating historical discourse in its current state was essentially crafted in the XVI century from a rather contradictory jumble of sources such as innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts whose originals had vanished in the Dark Ages and the allegedly irrefutable proof offered by late mediaeval astronomers, resting upon the power of ecclesial authorities. Nearly all of its components are blatantly untrue! For some of us, it shall possibly be quite disturbing to see the magnificent edifice of classical history to turn into an ominous simulacrum brooding over the snake pit of mediaeval politics. Twice so, in fact: the first seeing the legendary millenarian dust on the ancient marble turn into a mere layer of dirt - one that meticulous unprejudiced research can eventually remove. The second, and greater, attack of unease comes with the awareness of just how many areas of human knowledge still trust the three elephants of the consensual chronology to support them. Nothing can remedy that except for an individual chronological revolution happening in the minds of a large enough number of people.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

With damaging viruses and intrusions in the news almost weekly, an increasing number of organizations are choosing to hire full-time security specialists. They won't, however, hire self-proclaimed "experts" or even general-purpose consultants who reckon they can learn digital crime-fighting on the job. Organizations will hire people who can prove their competence with a certification like the Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Security Professional rating, which is what CIW Security Professional Certification Bible provides you with the background to earn. The book does a snappy job of conveying the tested facts and concepts, and though most readers will wish for coverage of security under Windows 2000 and Windows XP (there's none here), those operating systems aren't on the test yet and we can't fault the authors for that.
Some of the advice on how to defeat attackers is entertaining, like the authors' suggestion that you give your Windows NT administrator a user name other than "Administrator," then create another account--one with no access rights--with the "Administrator" user name as a sort of straw man to sap crackers' energy. Other advice makes up more of a litany of technical best practices and policy rules of thumb. Still other sections focus on tools, both offensive (like L0phtCrack and NetBus) and defensive (like Syslog and SuperScan). There are also multiple-choice assessment questions--with annotated answers--and lab exercises accompanying each chapter. --David Wall
Topics covered: The subjects you need to understand in order to pass the Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Security Professional Exam (1D0-470), which is accredited by the Association of Internet Professionals (AIP) and the International Webmasters Association (IWA). The authors cover general security principles (everything from user-rights management to physical safety of equipment), and the specifics of attacks and defenses on several popular operating systems.
Book Description
CIW Security Professional Certification Bible follows Prosoft Training's curriculum and objectives for the CIW Security exam, while providing information to help security professionals on the job. It details areas such as encryption technologies, types of incidents and attacks, system and network security, TCP/IP, managing the network boundary, implementing firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention. This book also covers securing the operating system, securing user accounts and file resources, assessing risk, auditing, scanning and discovery, defeating network penetration, creating security control procedures.

GET THIS BOOK PRIOR TO A CIW BOOT CAMP.......2007-03-04
I enjoy the Bible series of these books and this one is no exception. It screams through everything you wanted to know about the material and it reads more fluidly than other books approaching the subject. I found it an easy read and a great reference for other things. I would recommend this book as the 'one' book to own if you could own no others on the subject. This new and up and coming cert keeps with the traditions of the other things that CompTIA is known for, most importantly their vendor neutral stances on stuff. This book adequately covers the material but I wouldn't use it alone. Find a CBT online or a boot camp to goto when seeking this certification and the Security+ works great in conjunction with this kind of stuff.
If I could put more into this book, I would add an entire section similar to the Exam Cram Series and a CD-ROM/DVD that has a class room instructor lecturing on the materials as well as an installable flash program that tests the crap out of you on this. So consider this a prep, and use the Exam cram for testing.
I Should have know better & they should have known better.......2003-03-02
No wonder Hungry Minds fell apart (and got swallowed by Wiley) [see hungryminds.com]. I guessed I had much to learn about data security but it became clear the authors and Boson quiz writers (on accompanying CD) know little about the subject or are incredibly careless or both. I've found errors and inconsistencies both in the book and in the Boson quiz on the bundled CD without hunting for them.
Good reference book, covers exam topics.......2002-05-15
I found this book to be good. It covered the exam objectives and topics quite well. It also makes for an excellent reference guide to have whether you are taking the exam or not. It did however have a few editing errors, but you would be able to get the point of the authors. The test engine from Boson Software is OK. It does have a few errors (Questions that were answered correctly were marked incorrect, etc.). For a good practice test, try MeasureUP.com. Do the labs that you can, they help reinforce the lessons that you learn. I passed the exam with this book, but I also have the work experience and other training that helped too.
Not just for CIW Security Exam review.......2001-11-12
This is book is not just for those people who want to take the CIW Security Professional test. This book covers many topics in the area of information security including: network security, intrusion detection, and operating system security. The CD includes many cool security tools.
If you want an all-around good security book, this is the one to have on your shelf...
