Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars A bible for programmers.......2007-10-01

This book is targetted for software programmers. It advocates that the primary goal of the developer is to manage complexity, and I fully agree with that! It discusses several topics while providing good and bad examples: naming, coding style and organization, code tuning, refactoring, requirements and planning, testing debugging. I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars The Programming Bible.......2007-09-27

This book is quite simply a must read for anyone in the programming field. The chapter on debugging is worth its weight in gold. My copy is riddled with sticky notes marking key topics. McConnell's writing style is entertaining and very educational; he says what he needs to say and doesn't bore you along the way. There is really no other way to put it: if you must buy one programming book this is it, at least until the third edition comes out.

5 out of 5 stars Live IT.......2007-09-21

Buy it. Study it. Live IT. Your career will take off because of the insight provided.

4 out of 5 stars Thorough coding advice.......2007-09-16

If you're looking for a humorous, clever tome about coding, this is not your book. If, however, you are looking for thorough, well laid out, research-backed coding solutions and advice, then this book is an excellent addition to your library. The examples are based upon C, but suggestions are readily understandable by coders using any OOP compiler.

5 out of 5 stars Great stuff..........2007-09-01

My only disappointment was to find that some coding practices I've been using for the last 10 years or so he is now recommending against. Actually a few of them I would be glad to give up (large comment blocks at the beginning of scripts) but others are well ingrained. I can see his argument, but it will take a while for this old dog to relearn those new tricks.

5 out of 5 stars the complete book of maps & geography.......2007-05-23

we have started this book, but what we have seen so far is very informitive and interesting. which makes learning a big plus!

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend.......2007-03-29

When they say complete-they mean COMPLETE! It is wonderful. The book is recommended for 3rd-6th grade, but my 6yr old is using it. I homeschool and my children love to work on this book (even for fun). It thoroughly covers maps, U.S. Geography, the U.S. Regions, North & South America, Grid maps, Global Geography, compasses, latitude & longitude, time zones-like I said everything. For the most part it is self teaching, the kids only come to me if they have a question. It's well worth the money!

4 out of 5 stars Map work.......2007-01-10

This is a pretty good step-by-step tutorial on maps, able to be used over several years. Starts out with fairly general concepts, defining them and moving on to developing good map skills.

4 out of 5 stars good resource, nice intro to Geograhy.......2003-08-12

I am using this book, along with an inexpensive world atlas, as a Geography course for homsechooling my 1rst grader. My only warning would be that the exercises would be too easy, and thus boring, for any child beyond third grade. I certainly recommend the book for homeschoolers in 1rst-3rd grades.

4 out of 5 stars An excellent introductory geography workbook for grades 4-6.......1999-10-07

I teach geography to homeschool groups and I have found this to be an excellent beginning level book. It establishes a foundation for understanding the basics of the 5 Themes of Geography: "location, place, people & environment, movement, and regions". Any student (and parent!) who truly completes this workbook will have a solid grasp of the essentials of geography.

3 out of 5 stars Often Humorous; Has its Moments.......2005-06-07

This is an overly turgid work that suffers from constant rewrites; there have been nearly one-hundred editions issued, each slightly different from the last. There are times when the entire book seems self-contradictory. For some reason, for example, the authors feel compelled to follow the elegant and simple statement that "gross income means all income from whatever sources derived" with endless, often monotonous exceptions.

Significant parts of this work are relevant only to those with special interests, while other parts are likely to be universally appreciated (or depreciated, as the case may be). While often eminently practical, there are times when the authors become incredibly vague (they never seem to define "ordinary and necessary", for example, yet insist on using the phrase an inordinant number of times) and other times when they become downright mystical (for example, they spend some time, particularly in the accompanying regulations, talking about "disregarded entities").

Still, despite its flaws, I'd recommend that everyone read this book. By April 15.

An excellent resource and worth every penny. I work extensively with the Hispanic migrant community in south Georgia, and the insights gained from this book have proven time and time invaluable.Sure some of his translations are shoddy at best, but he doesn't claim to be a linguist. I have spent a lot of time on the border and on the other side, and and wrapping up a degree in Spanish, and am frequently complimented on my cultural fluency. The book does deal in some stereotypes; however, honest people will admit that there is truth in stereotypes else they would not exist.View this book as a door opener to a wonderful world.

      1 out of 5 stars A Mexican opinion if you don't mind.......2005-05-26

NTC's dictionary of Mexican cultural code words (ISBN 0-8442-7959-5) by Boyé Lafayette De Mente in 1996 is terrible. I can well make my commentaries because I am Mexican by all sides and know Mexico. I will mentions chapter 120 mostly since it may be the worse one. The rest of it is just bad.

I am well aware that it's not up to NTC and Boyé to publish one point of view or another. But they must publish quality works. So, wat wuld yu tink if one of iour writers wrote as I do in thys sentense? This dictionary is full of orthography mistakes and bad translations all over. Let's see some examples of words and famous sentences around Mexico:

By the way, Boyé's translation is BT, Actual Meaning is AM and commentaries is CM

BT: It is not a shame to kill; but to kill and get caught is a shame. (Chapt. 37)
AM: Stealing is not a shame. Stealing and get caught is shame
      CM:
1)The meaning is depressing, but far less immoral.
2)The real saying is a bit different

      " " (originalsentence not showed)
BT: Respect (for all people) is the foundation of peace.
      Pag. 264, chapt 119
AM: Respecting others people's rights is the peace.
      CM:
The Original sentence is "El respecto al derecho ajeno es la paz"

      Vacile, relajo, relajientos
      BT:
-Vacile: to vacillate, to dilly-dally, to never make up one's mind, to avoid responsability.
      -Relajo: chaos.
-Relajientos: people who introduce a caotic element into everything they do, ....and to be more interested in human relatios and spiritual things than in hard work and sticking to projects they start.
      AM:
-All of these terms are synonyms.
Vacile is used especially when poking fun at someone in an easy way, NOT in a mean one. They do imply some chaos, but they simply mean having fun; nothing to do with spiritually at all. We use normal terms for the meanings attached to these ones: irresponsible and disorganized. -It's vacileo This term is regarded today as childish and you'll hardly hear it. It's like goophy or teasing in English.
-Boyé got this definition from Mexicans, but from anthropologist ones. Intellectual are not good in dealing with reality.

Boyé never showed much real contact with Mexicans. It even seems that he was thye typical foreigner in any nation that self-segregates to his/her own community or contact the locals very little. It even seems that his single one friend was someone called "Mike" who as any other rich Mexican worships rich countries (or any foreign nation) I don't exaggerate when I say "worship". One of the readers at Amazon.com made really harsh judgments of Boyé since he didn't mention a single Mexican woman amongst his many commentaries of them. But as I read the book I found she was right, Boyé's bases are extremely weak. I can almost say that whenever he doesn't base his information with Mike's knowledge, he relies in intellectual's opinions that he doesn't even mention often, barely one big name like Octavio Paz, let alone a bibliographical reference. And as I said in the former table, intellectuals usually can't see reality. The incredibly bad translation of "relajiento" is a very good example; the anthropologist who state its meaning blew things out of proportion. It was like saying that "having fun" means being promiscuous, taking drugs, etc. Yes, "having fun" can mean that but only in strange exceptions; it has a saner meaning, like when a mom drops her kids in school and tells them, "have fun".

Not only Boyé didn't show good knowledge of Mexico, he didn't show it of USA either. He said in chapter 120,
Americans and other Anglos, on the other hand, have been programmed to regard personal responsibility as a positive attribute.

Sorry guys, it turns out that I have also been to your nation and I always strove to get to knows American people unlike the typical foreigner self segregated foreigner. I even married one of you! -that's why I bother to look for a book to explain Mexico to my wife. Not only this, I also lived in Illinois, the tort state where people have sued for things like a hot coffee! So, please don't publish such works from people pushes others to use a derogative terms like "egg-heads" And remember, the sentence above is just one example of very doubtful opinions.

The best indication that he didn't melted with us is that at the beginning of the book he mentioned that we over agree. I've heard it in two other publications as well. That's wrong, but I think that's the first impression of foreigners in USA and Mexico. I also had that impression of Americans when I just arrived there. As I got to know you more and more I found out that it's almost all the other way around. It's the same with Mexicans.

In short, Boyé's book has the worst of the two current American trends, liberalism and conservative. Like a liberal he pretends to understand foreign things but ends up focusing most in the bad side of people -the best example are feminists- And as conservative he appeals to baseless or even hypocrite righteousness. His is too liberal biased on his views of Mexican history. Why did he disagree with a huge group of Mexicans in USA (Chicanos) for trying to take American culture when most of book is about the worst of Mexican people? Saying that they were rejected is a bad answer. Again, I know it's not up to NTC to check an author's views, but for the same freedom of expression I write this letter. A negative book can be published about any nation.....well except France `because they're expert brain-washers (just read "French or Foe?" or Culture Shock: France)

Boyé might well be right in his negative views of us (easy job to look at defects) I can tell that since I know it since birth. Yet, you must do things right. This book is a freshmen scratch work, it's dishonest to sell it.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good One.......2003-04-07

I'm a mexican who after reading some of the captions on the site bought this book for my dutch boyfriend and another dutch friend who is living in Mexico now, It has been very helpful for them to understand why we mexicans behave in a certain way. I don't find it insulting or dimishing the mexican culture. It is funny to see how others see us.

4 out of 5 stars CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION!!!!!.......2002-06-28

Great book but the SAME EXACT BOOK with a different cover can be bought !!! "There's a Word for It in Mexico" by the same author!!! I was the idiot who bought both!!!

5 out of 5 stars Accurate and entertaining as well as educational.......2001-08-17

I have lived in Mexico for 2 years. Although some seem insulted by this book, I have found it extremely helpful in aiding my family and I to understand how Mexican's think. It differs from our cultural view of things. It contains an excellent history of Cortez and the influence of the Catholic church which still plays a major role in the daily culture of the people. I am purchasing a second copy today. It's worth every penny. I also have NYC's Dictionary of China's Cultural Code Words. Mr. De Mente does an excellent job of capturing the flavor of a culture.

I wish the Complete Book of Algebra and Geometry had been available when I was in the sixth grade. I really could have used this worktext.
This text takes you through the basics of algebra and geometry in a fun, engaging format. This is a great basal worktext for homeschoolers. It can also be utilized as a worktext over the summer to prepare for school in the fall.

This feels like something haphazardly thrown together over a few months of noodling (including Donlevy's noodled illustrations throughout). Donlevy can be very dark and funny-- see "The Ginger Man" and "The Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B"-- but here he's only hit and miss. And the pointed obscenity might have raised eyebrows in the 70s, but seems forced here. If you're new to him, read the good stuff and give this a pass...

5 out of 5 stars The funniest, most cynically pointed book ever written.......2002-08-17

This book was reviewed at the time as "The SOB's Emily Post" and I can't think of a better short description. Absolutely the wittiest and most laugh-out-loud book I've ever read -- and I've read a lot of books. Donleavy careens from one social faux pas and calamity to the next... "On being caught with your best friend's wife"... "On determining that you are on an aeroplane that is about to crash"... and provides true Looking Out for Number 1 self-preservation, the-world-can-bite-me advice. Beautifully crafted, as is all Donleavy's work, sometimes shocking in its juxtaposition of words, and deriving its true impact by couching its directives in the stilted language of the 1930's English Country Folk -- I must advise you: Do NOT read this book in a room or situation that requires silence; otherwise you will try to restrain laughter to such an extent that you'll give yourself a thrombosis. It's the only paperback book that I've guarded and kept for over 20 years.

      5 out of 5 stars I found it funny.......2000-04-07

I found it funny. If one likes Donleavy the book will not disappoint you. If you don't - probably stay away...

5 out of 5 stars Best Book on the Subject.......2005-11-21

I learned a lot from the Complete Book of Electronic Security. I highly recommend it to anybody. The book's explanation of how electricity works is easy to understand.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book.......2002-07-28

I own Bill's other book, "The Complete Book of Locks and Locksmithing", which is the best I've seen about locksmithing. His Electronic Security book is an excellent companion book. It's easy to understand, and gives a lot of good information. The chapter on how electricity works made me understand that better than ever before. A lot of the information is basic, fundamental stuff. Over a dozen top experts contributed technical articles to the book. I highly recommend the Complete Book of Electronic Security.

3 out of 5 stars The author has written more gripping books........2002-07-27

The author's similarly-titled book on locksmithing is of exceptional quality. That's what makes this book's average-ness seem so much less adequate. I didn't return the book, but could have found the same information with a few Internet searches.

I doubt this book would be of much use to someone learning electronic security, although it would probably make a great resource for a high-school student writing a report for some class or other. Perhaps I'll donate my mostly-unread copy to a local library, where it can be put to good use.

      1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.......2002-05-03

I was looking for a book that would help me upgrade our home security system. This looked like the one. NOT!

To say it was superficial would be to give it too much credit. The section on installation was 3 pages long. It's chock full of fluff, nothing is covered in enough depth to be of any use.

I was hoping to find out how the pros pulled wires into walls -- what tools they used, what tricks they used, etc. NOT!

I was looking for a book that would discuss the features available in various systems and which ones were useful. NOT!

Save your money. I sent my book back, but I still had to pay the shipping both ways.

      I was so disappointed!
