I find this book very easy to read. I am a beginner and the book is very friendly describing the info. Go ahead. You will not regret paying the $$$. The good thing that every keyword in the text is blue-colored. If you read the fist part (5 chapters) you will understand the PM very well (if you are a novice). Good for students and professionals too. The CD attached for practicing is very easy too. I am happy.

This book is well written and clear with lots of follow along activities. While I'm pretty new to Project, I still found the pace exhaustingly slow. It's a bit hard to skip ahead as you don't really know when the good stuff is going to come in. It's done this way to allow you to work either from start to end, or jump from topic to topic.
I can't fault them for this, but as I was trying to learn everything about the program, I found the pace so painfully slow that it was a bit discouraging.
I think this book is best for either a person who does not have a lot of computer experience and really wants their hand held at every step, or someone who just needs a reference to look up particular techniques. If you are fairly savvy and are trying to learn quickly, you may find this a bit of a drag.
4 Stars because it's good at what it does, but not 5 because for some it'll just be too dull.

This book was a solid introduction to Excel 2003. I have used Excel since about 2000 and found the first parts of the text to be information I already knew. Even so, I went through every single exercise and picked up a few shortcuts - mainly right click tips along the way. The introduction to PivotTables was helpful. Also, importing and exporting data is a good introduction. Toward the end of the text, as expected, the exercises get a little more challenging. The breadth of the text is good. I'd recommend for beginners. The back of the book says for Beginning to Intermediate users, which is accurate. There are very few typos in the text. Opted to buy Excel 2003 Inside Out for more advanced Excel knowledge.

I think this is one of the best books you can buy to update or improve your knowledge of Excel. I feel confident that even a novice could learn how to use Excel.
Best Excel Training Book.......2007-06-20
This book was required by the University of Tennessee's MBA Program to get those who were not experienced with Excel to an experienced user level. I considered myself an intermediate user before the program; however, the book was an excellent supplement to the program. Frye does a great job of illustrating click-for-click moves along with graphics--in addition, the CD included really helps bring the learning home.

This book is well written and provides very exacting details to ensure a firm understanding of Microsoft Access. I found the CD-Rom with the example files to be extremely helpful as well. I had previously purchased Microsoft Office Step-By-Step and Microsoft Office Specialist Study Guide. I bought Word SBS along with Excel SBS, Access SBS, and PowerPoint SBS hoping that they would be more in depth for a novice user like myself who wants to build my skills and learn the intricacies of MS Office. Imagine my surprise, when after opening the CDs to all and loading them onto my computer, the exercises are the same as in the first two books I bought. They can't be sent back since the seal is broken on the disk packaging.
Apparently the easier concepts of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint are collected into MS Office SBS and the more difficult concepts are collected into MS Office Specialist Study Guide.
On a good note, this series is easy to understand and not difficult to use. They really do provide step by step instructions.
However, I wish this series would allow the user to take a project from start to finish. I don't think just following the directions in the exercises has provided me with the skills to complete projects on my own.
The moral of this story is: If you are looking for a book to provide the basics of Word (and Excel, Access, PowerPoint), save your money and buy MS Office SBS and Office Specialist Study Guide. They are to only two books you really need. If you want books that provide more details or are more skill specific, look for something else.

This is certainly as dry as a computer manual, so Microsoft could have included this as at least a PDF with PowerPoint. So did not do that and now they want you to buy this separately. That itself is reason to not buy this book and look at other alternatives.

This book is very good as a refresher manual. May be a bit complex if you are not familiar with it. Yet, overall, its a great reference book.

Even though I have used Microsoft products for a number of years, I found this book helpful. This book gets you started using the basic features of the different Office products. The explanations are detailed yet not boring. The diagrams are easy to read and relevant to the text.
I do wish that before the step-by-step excercises they would briefly explain what is about to be done.

"In browsing through this I was amazed to find out there were so much more that could be done in Office 2003 than I ever knew" ?!
This is true only if you're totally, absolutely new to any edition of Microsoft office not just 2003, that is you've never or barely used Microsoft office before.
If that's the case, then any book including this one here is a great one. But if you have minimum knowledge about Microsoft office don't waste your time and money, I'm saying this because I've been teaching Microsoft office for years now and I can hardly recommend this book for a beginner level.
There are much better books out there, try the Special Edition(Que) or the Inside Out(Microsoft) series.
5 stars for this book is a misleading review and aims only to boost the bad rating this book have.

First of all, the CD did not have all of the Practice Files I need to actually USE the book. Second, the features it runs through are so basic as to be useless to anyone who has ever used Word, Excel, etc. There's nothing on how to creat mail merges in Word, for example. This was a complete waste of $20. Only buy this crummy book if you know absolutely NOTHING about Word, Excel, etc.
A Good Starting Point.......2005-09-30
Take a quick dip into Microsoft Office 2003 with the well-organized lessons in Step by Step. I specifically purchased the book to learn how to use FrontPage. Within one week, I had my web site published online. The next week, I was able to use the Access lessons to set up files for my customers and customer inquiries. Within a few more days, I was enhancing my web site with educational PowerPoint presentations.
In order to arrive at the intermediate level of knowledge, you will probably need more than just this book. I reinforced the lessons in Step by Step with the free online training on the Microsoft site, which filled in some blanks.
The practice exercises were helpful--I would never have remembered the lessons without the hands-on training. For some reason, I was unable to open the Outlook practice exercises, but all other practice exercises worked fine.

This is a well-written and easily understood intro to Visio, which does a good job of covering diagrams, flowcharts, Gantt charts, floorplans, and the like. But, it has absolutely no information on building database diagrams with Visio, for which I deducted a star.

Don't buy - no longer a supported program........2007-02-23
I purchased this book and the software a year ago. I found out a few months ago that Microsoft is no longer supporting this software and has come out with a new program. Of course microsoft did not notify any registered users of this. I am now out the money for the software and the book. Microsoft instead of changing this program so that extensions are no longer used, came out with a brand new program which cost $299-.

I never got it. The FrontPage 2003 that I ordered in September 2006 never arrived.
I sent you a message about it, and apparently you have on your records that I re-ordered it.
In fact, you supposedly sent a replacement copy. In fact, you sent a 2nd FrontPage Step by Step
instruction book, which I had also ordered in September and received at that time. So, I have
2 instruction books, no software, I've stopped payment on my Visa for this purchase, and I've given up.
I will likely NEVER order from Amazon.com again.

I ordered this book as well as Special Addition Using Ms FP 2003 The only FP2003 book you'll ever need. This is the book to get!! The microsoft book does not really do a good job of fully explaining the topic. To me it was very confusing. The other book I just mentioned is 3 times as thick and goes from very basic to very advanced. So as you grow the book will be there for all the information. I will be returning this book and keeping the Special Addition.
