Take your time.......2007-09-10
One chapter at a time. I recommend that you read the quizes then the chapter to find key points easier. Great study material! Sybex is always the way to go.
Informative.......2007-07-12
The book is quite informative and up-to-date. It covers all new A+ examination areas (really comprehensive). The bundled stuffs are very helpful too. It comes with lots of practice exams. The electronic flashcards are handy and refreshing. With the bundled compact disc, you can read your book anywhere, anytime with any portable device that support .pdf file format. Good book.
Thank God..........2007-06-24
Finally an A+ book that doesn't drown itself in tech terms without actually explaining what it is they are trying to convey. This is as user-friendly as one could hope to get in a study guide. It doesn't go over one's head, if it the subject matter does the author brings it down to earth.
The companion CD is pretty good as well, offering the whole book in .pdf form for downloading on one's iPod or PDA.
A+ Complete Study Guide - Sybex.......2007-05-17
To begin the book is well organized and well written. The flow of the book is easy to understand, and easy to take notes from. The CD-Rom includes an electronic copy of the book (which in my opinion is something that all paper copies should come with these days) which is very helpful for working professionals whom commute.
Cons: Unfortunately the book will miss a thing here or there as it relates directly to the exam itself. As an example: You will find that the study questions, while good at reinforcing the material you just read, do not line up with the flow, format or difficulty of the actual exam questions. They are really there to cement what you've just read and reinforce that to you.
Another example is the Professionalism and Communications section does not go over enough material in detail. It rather uses broad terms and concepts to go over that particular domain.
Conclusion: I feel this is a very good primary study guide. I would recommend however that you use supliments to your studying such as Transcender exams to help prep you for the actual testing enviornment as well as the Exam Cram book to compliment and really drive home the material.
The book is definately worth the purchase and you will be 75%-80% read to take the exam after completetion of studying.
Excellent exam preparation.......2007-05-14
This book does cover A+ exam objectives, moreover the chapters are arranged well according to the objective which made me feel easier to find the topic of interest or the topic that i need to study further.
With the chapters arranged and written according to compTIA objectives, I found it easier to review what I should study more after I take the test, since the test result will give you explanation in which area you need to review.
As I was an experience technician, I did feel it easy to follow and understand this book and pass the exam just by using this book, but i think this book lacks in the troubleshooting area. The author does give you quite a lot of troubleshooting example from his experience, but ff the author can give a lot more real world example of problems and solutions, i think this book will be perfect for exam preparation as well as on the job reference.

Customer Reviews:
good book.......2007-08-27
I would say the book is good but I would not bother spending the extra money on the deluxe edition. The videos are completely useless, it's only the most basic stuff. From my perspective, the videos are for someone that knows nothing about computers and if a person really doesn't know this stuff then they should spend some time cracking open some computers (which is the only way you are really going to learn) and pick up a more basic book to start out.
Good reference for the A+ tests........2007-08-17
I find this to be a good reference for the A+ exams. One error... Centronics was never a subdivision of Wang? Not sure where that came from.
Great Book!.......2007-07-25
This book is a great read; it is very informative and the CD's included are a big help. It teaches a lot to experienced and unexperienced, all you need it a will to learn. I would recommend this book to anyone aiming to take their A+ exam, as it will definitely help them pass.
Good book.......2007-05-25
So fur I like the the book. It has some nice features and enough resources to prep the cert exams.
Good book, with a few errors..........2007-04-18
I bought this book to make sure that I knew what I needed to pass the A+ certification test, even though I know most of the material. But there are a few errors that I came across in just the first few chapters, specifically in the Chapter Review questions. For one example, there is a review question for Chapter 2 that reads:
19. Every computer has a diagnostic program built into its BIOS called the __________.
A. CMOS
B. BIOS
C. POST
D. DNS
The answer is definitely C, ACCORDING TO THE LETTERS GIVEN, but the answer to this problem given is:
"B. Every computer has a diagnostic program built into its BIOS called the power-on self-test (POST)."
In my opinion, the correct answer should be C, and when I used the electronic test engine that came on the CD (which does work), it came up wrong when I put C with the same annotation.
So I would recommend this book to somebody on the condition that they were on their toes when they read it. I hope that they do a better job further down the line in the book with keeping the errors to a minimum.

Book Description
Master all the powerful features of Oracle9i using the exclusive information inside this indispensable resource. Written by best-selling Oracle Press authors Kevin Loney and George Koch, this volume explains how to implement all the components of Oracle9i. This is a must-have reference for all Oracle professionals.
Customer Reviews:
Everyday Usage.......2007-01-09
I'm a Oracle DBA and this is a great reference book. I use it so much that it does not get back to the bookshelf. A book to learn how oracle works it is not but a complete quick coverage of everything that an oracle 9i database can do. The only thing I have found better might be Oracle's own docs. But when you are setting in front of a console with no internet access oracle's docs won't help. Or just thumb tab a few pages that you use for speedy look up. It is a reference not an instruction manual and a lot cheaper then printing out Oracle's docs.
My opinion.......2006-03-10
This book was written for anyone to read. I have read many Reference books and none of them are as easy to read as this.
Helpful but not complete.......2005-08-03
I used this to supplement my study while working on OCP certification exams (Oracle 9i database). The book has good information but not everything you want to know about Oracle. Frankly, the books helps but it is not complete reference. It would not be a bad idea at all to own a copy of it.
I give 4 stars.
Not very thorough.......2004-02-25
If you are looking for a brief overview of everything, this book is for you. An developer/administrator looking for detail on any one topic will not find much use for this book.
The Best book to Start Learning Oracle.......2003-10-22
This is the book to start learning Oracle. This book assume that you know nothing and from there it builds your Oracle Skills. Oracle is very vast but this book has nicely covered all the basic aspects of Oracle that you will need in your day to activity. No doubt that this book will not make you an Oracle Expert but definitely you will learn to move forward. This is the starting point.... This book will make your base for Oracle.

Applications software may get all the glory, but it's the hardware and operating systems that do the heavy lifting in any computer system. Technicians who have earned CompTIA's A+ certification are recognized as qualified to solve complicated hardware and OS problems and can earn a good living doing so. A+ Complete Study Guide aims to prepare you for the two exams that you have to pass in order to become A+ certified, and it does a good job of communicating facts (like the function of a printer's corona wire and the differences among different Microsoft Windows filesystems) and procedures (such as how to install Microsoft Windows 2000 and how to examine a printer queue in Microsoft Windows XP). Though author David Groth uses the published outline of exam topics as a guide, he shares lots of other wisdom, so readers put this book down ready to work, not just pass the test.
Groth's teaching style combines explanatory text--which he writes clearly--with screen shots and procedures. He also makes use of brief sidebars for factoids, and tables for such data as command-prompt commands. Lots of readers will like his inclusion of sample exam questions at the end of each chapter, which come complete with annotated answers. A companion CD-ROM includes test simulator software, as well as a (searchable) copy of the book in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. --David Wall
Topics covered: Those subjects that CompTIA says you must understand in order to pass the Core Hardware (220-301) and Operating System Technologies (220-302). Essentially, this book is all about Microsoft Windows and the Intel-compatible hardware on which it runs.

Customer Reviews:
Comprehensive but marred by poor test engine.......2007-01-20
This was a very comprehensive book that covered more than what was actually in the A+ exams. I went through it with a fine-tooth comb in less than three weeks and passed with a 785 in the Essentials exam and an 855 on the the IT Technician exam. I was until last year a Mac user, am just of average intelligence, and this book has been very helpful for me. My only problem with it was with the tests on the CD. There were literally DOZENS of errors on it, and I wondered how it went to press without anyone testing it. Other than that, the book is five stars and the CD is one star.
Like other custmer, my Ebook doesn't wont........2006-12-22
Tried to install on multiple computers so I could study while at work and not have to lug around that heavy book. Disappointed. I'm going to end up having to purchase the updated Myers All-In-One for the new tests anyway.
Good Book.......2006-03-24
I think this book is worth buying. It builds on a foundation of basic computer knowledge and takes you into more advanced topics. It covers all of the objectives for the A+ exam but I would recommend that you use it in conjunction with other exam readiness material. Again, this book is not a waste.
Terrible study material for the exam.......2006-03-18
I can't believe others gave this A+ Complete Study Guide great reviews? This book was horrible. I had to study other textbooks and materials so I can pass the real exam. If I just study this book alone, I would fail the actual exam. The book is so wordy! Blah! Blah! Why do I want to hear long sentences. Just get to the point! And the sentence structure was terrible. I don't understand what was going on most of the time. Just focus on the subject without the jargon. Not enough on Windows XP and networking, but many questions had these on the actual exam.
Not as advertised.......2006-02-11
I am sure that this book will serve the needs of most of the buyers as a competent treatment of the subject area. I am studying for the exam and wanted two things: A large set of practice questions for drill purposes (the cd had 30 questions) and a portable reference copy of the book. The ebook included can only by read from the cd according to the text file that comes with it, but in fact for me the book was totally unreadable from the CD on a PC or a Mac with serveral different versions of the adobe reader that I tried. I am not interested in reading a 900 page book just to pass an exam and found that the dummies book plus the testking questions were enough. This book did not suit my needs at all.

A+ Guide to Hardware: Managing, Maintaining and Troubleshooting, Fourth Edition
ASIN: 1418020230 |
Book Description
The Complete Guide to Servers and Server+ is more than just an exam guide to the CompTIA Server+ Exam. It's also a blueprint for a career in server management. With its easy-to-read style, The Complete Guide to Servers and Server+ serves as a good training manual and will serve as a valuable reference after obtaining your certification. This book takes the approach that a good server manager should know the ins and outs of building a server from scratch. With this emphasis throughout the book, The Complete Guide to Servers and Server+ is an essential part of any network manager's library.
Customer Reviews:
Caution, Do Not Rely Solely on this publication.......2007-05-31
I too have just completed the Server+ exam, the previous day, and like the other reviewer I also thoroughly agree, there was considerable information on the exam that was not covered at all in this book. Things like NAS/SAN, iSCSI/FCIP, fibre channel and service tools. Plus, although the author did touch on UPS's, there were questions asked that he did not cover and subsequently were not represented in this book.
What I really find galling though in light of past publications that this individual has written (A+ and Network+ to name a couple) is the numerous grammatical and or missing words I came across while reading this book. We have all heard of Intel but why was AMD called American Micro Devices and not Advanced as it should be? Clearly, either this tome was rushed into publication and the publisher didn't bother or had a rather piss poor proofreader in looking over this book. Consequently, I'd be hard pressed to want to use a future write from this author and/or use this publisher again (Thomson).
It's clear, DO NOT EXPECT TO PASS THE EXAM IF THIS IS THE ONLY PUB YOU PLAN TO USE. Previous hands on experience working with servers is very much going to be in one's favour!
Not enough and hard to read.......2007-02-19
I just got back from the Server+ test, and I passed the exam. However half of the questions on the exam were not mentioned in this book. This book touches mostly the hardware, and the writer clearly has this background. However there is so much more then hardware, no matter how great his passion about server hardware is. This is why this book is not enough for the exam. In-depth information is missing about the server and the network, and too much information is given on things not needed for the exam. Also, though the book is written in a loose attitude, the writer is actually sometimes hard to understand in what he writes. Even though this book gives a lot of information, I can now hardly believe this is a Comptia approved studybook for the Server+ exam.
Good Book, Bad Supplemental Material.......2006-12-09
I'll make this review short and to the point -- the book itself is a great learning tool, and is a very easy read. However, I was quite disappointed to see that only odd-numbered questions have solutions to them in this book. It appears that you need to spend ANOTHER $20+ to get an e-resource CD that includes all solutions. At $75, this is an absolute ripoff. Unfortunately, there aren't many other Server+ books offered at this time.
In summary, buy this book to review all the Server+ objectives, but look elsewhere for practice questions.

Complete Review Guide for State and National Examinations in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.......2006-12-12
This has got to be THE number one quick review book out there for the massage exam! Every single question asked in this book was on the exam and if not in question form it was in the easily formatted reading sections. I liked the space in the borders for writing on and used it for notes. The other book by ashton is good too. I used both and aced the exam!!!

Old book.......2007-01-16
With the new format for the CCNP tests i would advise getting a newer book. Although you will find very usefull information in this book the new tests require updated information that just isnt located in this book.
so over all its a good book but not so good for studying for the CCNP tests.
Don't waste your money.......2006-10-23
I bought this book for my CCNP recertification. I ran into a bunch of stuff on the exam that was not covered in this book or was in greater detail than was covered by this book. I used Sybex books before on my original CCNP certification and I passed. If I try to recertify, it won't be with one of those books. I'll use Cisco Press. Live and learn.
Great Book for CCNP, with a few errors.......2006-08-17
Once again, Sybex has come through with a great resource for CCNP studies. I have trained hundreds of students in pursuit of their CCNP certification with this book.
As the IT Mentor CCNP Boot Camp instructor, I selected this book library years ago as my primary resource for the class. My students find the books easy to read and full of usefull information. The labs are very good, and overall, the book is great.
Once again, my only problem with Sybex is that their books have a large amount of typos and errors in the first few editions.
adequate as a review resource.......2005-07-23
Having all four CCNP topics in one book seems like a good idea. It only works as a review resource though. If you don't already know the material this is not the book for you. It doesn't go into enough detail on enough topics to cover everything that you need to know for the exams. It is a good resource to review before you take the exam.

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic book........2005-11-11
"I have to say that I really do think this A+ book is very well written and easy to follow. The hands on exercises are definitely a plus and should be incorporated into all texts. My current text, while adequate, doesn't provide near the exercises that this text does."
David E. Cooke
Heart of Georgia Technical College
"(Schmidt) includes many of the labs students will complete, eliminating the need for an additional lab text. There are enough questions at the end of the chapter to allow me to choose those that I want emphasize when I cannot cover all material in the classroom."
John Washington
Texas State Technical College
"I really like the review questions and student exercises at the ends of the chapters. I take many of my exam questions from them. They are superior to those found in other texts I have used in the past.
The Complete A+ Guide to PC Repair 2005 Edition is an excellent A+ prep book. Even after almost 15 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing computers, I still keep a copy handy for reference. If a student (or anyone preparing for the A+ test) buys only one textbook, this should be it!"
K.C. Moore
Tidewater Community College
"The layout is excellent. The labs are incorporated into the book instead of requiring students to buy a separate book for labs only. It is a great concept that I'd like to see from more authors."
Zoltan Szabo
Richland College
Great book!.......2003-04-13
Thank you for the teacher's material on the Complete Computer Repair 2nd ed. Textbook. This material has made teaching this material from your book the most helpful of any material I have ever used. I have been teaching for 20 years, and this is the most complete and user friendly information I have used. Again thank you and keep up the good work. Loren Niemeyer, Sauk Valley Community College
I am very impressed
We have already adopted Schmidt's 2nd edition for use with my class at Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, MA, and I am very impressed with it. I like the updated information and the addition of some review questions in Chp 6 on Troubleshooting. The end of the chapter exercises make preparing classroom activities much easier.
What a joy to have found this book.
I own every book, it seems, on computer repair. At last, I have found a book that is well written and easy to understand. Ms. Schmidt's explanations are straight forward and well illustrated. What a joy to have found this book.
Great book! this book will enable me to better instruct my students because the labs/exercises will save me many hours fine tuning labs that I have prepared. Other instructors in the same boat know how very difficult and time consuming it is to prepare and test lab exercises, and, be successful in ensuring that labs provide a positive learning experience. The chapter reviews and tests are reinforcement and well written and cover all important topics. I feel overwhelmed knowing that, finally, I will have such an excellent instructional computer book for my students. Please share my thoughts and thanks to Cheryl A. Schmidt. Jody Campbell Pima Community College.
I like this book. Explanations are easy to understand., September 29, 1998
Reviewer: A reader from VA
This is the only book my teacher assigned and I think it is very good. It's easy to understand and the lab exercises are good, too
The Best Technician's Handbook,

There is not to much to say because the text explains it all. For those of you who have taken a class that requires this book you know what I'm talking about. Not only have I had the pleasure of owning this valuble textbook, I have also had the privilege of being a former student of Cheryl Schmidt's here at FCCJ in Jacksonville, FL.
Ms. Schmidt is one of the finest instructors I've ever had the honor of learning from. The one theme that runs through out her textbook as well as her classes is, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION, ......ALWAYS READ THE DOCUMENTATION.
Thank you Cheryl!
One of the BEST A+ books around hands down.......2002-09-17
I have spent several months of hard studying and in-home lab exercises in preparation for taking the A+ exam and this book is one I use every day. One of the best things about it is that it is peppered with actual lab exercises. This makes sense since this book is actually meant to be a textbook for college classes (I just wish it were also available in hardcover). At the end of each chapter are pages and pages of exercises to do to actually practice what you've learned. For those who don't have the money or space to set up an old guinea pig computer there are paper exercises that will get your brain matter really working. Don't dismiss the paper exercises even if you do have a guinea pig computer. A lot of them are not easy and duplicate some of the problems a repair tech will encounter on the job.
Which brings me to yet another aspect of this book I really liked. It has added emphasis on troubleshooting. I have a lot of A+ books - all the standard ones most people find in bookstores and none of them focus on troubleshooting to the degree this one does. Again it makes sense since this book is supposed to be a textbook for courses that help people get a job as a PC repair tech. People bring in their computers because something isn't working correctly, right? So troubleshooting becomes an essential skill. I recognized a lot of the troubleshooting techniques I use on my job and several new ones I didn't.
Hardware and Operating Systems are given in-depth coverage. Probably far more than you would ever be tested on. For the OS portion of the test everything from DOS/Win 3.1, Win95, Win98/ME, NT, 2000/XP is examined. Even things that A+ doesn't really focus on anymore are given good coverage. Mainly because on the job you'll likely face situations where it's good to know for troubleshooting older systems.
The one thing that this book doesn't have that most other A+ books do is a cd with practice test questions. However, there a plenty of websites available that let you take practice exams (or you could just buy practice exam software separately). The other downside is that since it is a college textbook the answers to the questions are not given (they're probably in the instructor's version of this book).
In a market full of A+ books studying any one of them thoroughly will be enough to pass. But if you want something that will help you on a job too - well, you can't go wrong with this one.

Great A+ Study Package........2007-09-05
Great Books to study from, there is Street Smart for the simple stuff then A+ complete pass. I read most of it and helped me understand a few things better.
All in one guide to the new CompTIA 2006 A+ Certifications.......2007-08-29
This setup saved me half of what the books listed for seperately. I had read PDF versions of the Fast Pass and A+ Complete books a few months ago and wanted to pick up the hard copies for a new employee. So far the "PC Technician Street Smarts" book is helpful as a Politically Correct (CompTIA standards) tutorial. The labs cover real world skills that a newly initiated employee would need in the first weeks and months of thier vocation. It starts out with installing memory and advances to installation of other internal components. It provides more complex lab guides as it covers PC maintenance, Networking and Troubleshooting. When I first picked this book up to glance through it, I was amazed at how much was in the little guy in comparison to the 900+ pages of the study guides. I believe this is one of the most real approaches I have seen on teaching the A+ skills for a beginner.
The "CompTIA A+ Complete Study Guide" is fantastic, not only is it full of more real world scenarios of what an A+ certified Tech should know, it comes with Flash cards! Flash cards have to be one of the most useful study aids there are and these are great. The CD that comes with the book has the full text in PDF format, the flash cards and practice exams. I highly reccomend the study guide over Mike Meyers', it cuts so much of the BS and teaches you using real world application.
The Fast Pass is great review of the previous 2 books and also comes with flash cards and 4 bonus exams.
In conclusion, this is a fantastic package for anyone who wants to pass the 2006 CompTIA A+ exams.

Daniel.......2007-01-29
This book was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. There were a few "zebra" questions but for the most part the questions represented a decent review. The explanations aren't as good as Appleton and Lange but many important points come across. I wouldnt use this book as the only review but it provides a nice question bank that you can use for extra practice and confidence for the big day.
Absolutely the worst of the PANCE/PANRE books!.......2006-03-14
It's not even a review - just Q&A. I bought it to access the "free" online Q-Bank ... only to find that you can only access the demo ... which you can do without buying the book! The demo lets you access only 20 questions at a time and you need to select a minimum of 2 questions for a quiz. Want to review the ortho questions online ... can't do it. There's only 1 question.
The layout of the book is incomprehensible ... spent more time searching for the right page for the answers. Have also bought/tried the Auth (too many errors) and Zarbock (older) books ... read their user reviews to make your own opinion. Finally settled on the A&L 2nd edition and "Boards and Wards" by Ayala & Spellberg.
The best products of all though are the programs from Challenger Medical (www.chall.com). Computer based learning, many areas of focus, THOUSANDS of images & questions/explainations. The FPPA (Family Practice PA) and EMPA (Emergency Medicine PA) titles offer guarantee board pass (or refund).
Too Many Zebra Questions !.......2006-01-22
I Found that this review book had a great section on how to understand the type of questions on the PANCE. The test questions however were not even closely related to that I found to be on the actual PANCE. The AAPA review guide is by far the best bang for your buck.
