Horrible Review Manual.......2007-09-22
I would be embarrassed to put my name on this book. The layout of the book is completely out of order, who starts an engineering review with Fluids and doesn't cover the very basics of Statics until section 43? I understand that this is not a novel and doesn't need to read like one, but some logical flow of material would be nice. It would also be helpful if the review problem book that goes with this manual used equations out of this manual. At least 1/4 of the problems use formulas that seem to have come out of thin air. Oh yeah, ideal gas law pv=Rt is nowhere to be found in the entire book. How this manual became the standard is beyond me. Maybe there is nothing better out there, but I'm certain that there is nothing worse. Hopefully Mark's will get me through the exam next month.
Wonderful Reference for the Test.......2007-08-10
I couldn't have passed without it. I was a great information source for the test and I use it at work, as well.
Big Heavy Book.......2007-06-14
This is onle heavy book but for good reason, there is a lot of good information in here. I got this book to help me study for the PE exam, however I am not eligable to take it for another 2 years. If I could do it all over again, I probably could have bought this book and used it for every engineering class I had throughout all of college. I have about 20 or so engineering books that I have collected over the years and this one book about sums it all up except for those classes that are very speciallized like Fuel Cell Design or English 1. Even though I am out of college and can't take the exam for a while, it is still a very good reference book for work. I used to keep all my collage book so I would have them for referance but since I got this book, the rest just stay in a box now. I have so far found one flaw, there are things in there I don't know what to do with them but then I realized that it was stuff school never taught me in the first place. So not really a flaw of the book... the book is great.
BUY IT.......2007-05-31
If you are taking the Mechanical PE exam, you know you need this book so just bite the bullet and buy it. It has 90% of what you'll need for the exam without any other resources.
Don't forget the ASHRAE books if you take the HVAC afternoon session.
Things to be aware of...you may want the 11th edition.......2007-03-26
Although the MERM and other PPI materials are helpful there are several things about them I wish I was aware of before purchase (Note, I probably still would have purchased them, but it would have been a more informed choice). First, I bought the 12th edition with the intent of using it alone as a reference and source of review problems. I did not want to get the 'Practice Problem Solution Manual' since I didn't think I'd need solutions too. I was dissapointed to find that after opening the MERM 12th edition the first thing I read is the practice problems are removed, causing me to buy the Practice Problem book. Since the 12th edition retailed for the same as the 11th I don't see any gain from the 12th edition. Plus there is no errata published for it yet. The MERM itself is primarily useful now as a summary to give you a sense of how to study (don't get me wrong, this is still very important). Otherwise all of the information is contained in Mark's or other handbooks. The information in the PE MERM is taken directly from the FE/EIT reference manual also sold by PPI. It is also repeated in the Civil PE review manual and I'd imagine the others. Hence PPI is mainly marketing about one book in many different configurations. This is likely what leads to the issues associated with the practice exam being in SI and English units instead of just English.

Good Audio CD Package.......2007-07-30
It has been more than enough to me. If you want to use the book "TOEFL iBT - Internet Based Test 2006-2007", you have to purchase that Audio CD Package, because most of the book exercises require the CD package. Furthermore, that CD package also comes with model tests. You do not need to buy the book with CD-ROM, but only the book.
Somewhat useful.......2007-03-26
The book does not come with a DVD and instead uses a CD. Unfortunately I made the mistake of not reading the product description and bought the book. It is useful but it could have been better had it made use of the available technology (DVD). Still, it is a worthwhile product.
How to Prepare for the TOEFL iBT with Audio CDs (Barron's How to Prepare for the TOEFL Ibt (W/CD Audio)).......2007-03-09
This book fosters individual learners' ability to overcome/be aware of the challenges in iBT TOEFL. It is also a very good resource for ESL practitioners for enhancing their students' academic skills, i.e. note-taking, paraphrasing, etc. as well as target language skills, i.e. listening, reading, etc.

I like Barron's book to practice iBT TOEFL test.
The Listening section's explanation is wrong, but it does not matter 'cause contents are really, really good.
It contains following;
1) selected possible iBT TOEFL reading topics
2) quite similar to Listening material
3) useful words for Writing
I do not mention about speaking because it needs partner who listens response.
I am satisfied with this contens, but I have one thing that I cannot accept... that is, CD-Rom materials are all the same as materials in the book. If only it had not been the same as book's contens... I'd rate 5stars.
Anyway, this will improve your scores.
CD rom is the excellent simulation of the ibt test.......2007-01-04
the cd-rom is the excellent simulation for the real ibt test. When i entered the real ibt test i didnt have any problem understanding the system of the test. also the exercises and questions are helpful and similar with the real ibt test. the only negative thing about the cd rom is your scores arent saved when you turn your computer off so you have to write them down somewhere else. note: to solve the exercises dont forget to buy the audio CD's sold seperately otherwise you wont be able to solve them.

Book was fine condition but didn't get to do any of the practice problems before my exam, which I passed thanks to the reference book.
Things to know before purchasing this manual and sample exam.......2007-03-26
The practice problems are all written in SI and English units yet there will only be in English units on the Mechanical PE exam. All problems have both units, however if you are interested in becoming proficient with conversions this may actually distract you. This could be confusing to someone studying and trying to improve the ability to work in different systems.
Be particularly aware of the sample exam. The following quote is an excerpt from a forum on the exam which I just read. I am dissapointed to read that the Sample exam is not reflective of the actual PE exam. I too just bought this for the purpose of taking a timed practice exam but now will send it back and find a more appropriate practice exam.
"I was going to take the PPI ME sample exam under timed conditions but thank goodness I flipped through it first. As soon as I saw the SI units I knew it wouldn't be representative of the NCEES exam, at least in that regard. I saw it as being pointless working problems in the SI system since they won't be on the real exam and all my studying has been in the English system."
Good PE Review Material.......2007-03-08
I recommend this book if you are studying for the PE exam. The problems are numerous and relevant. The solutions are easy to follow.
You do NOT need to have Lindeburg's study guide to use the Practice Problems. He does refer to the appendices in his study guide (steam tables, etc) by page number, BUT if you have the reference elsewhere (which you should), you can do all the problems in the book.
New edition contains practice problems.......2006-11-01
If you bought the reference book, buy this book. I know it's spendy, but do it. The 12th edition contains several great exam grade problems that anyone taking the PE exam should take time to work beforehand. I worked about 1/2 of the problems in this book, and felt well prepared for the exam. I was hoping the exam problems would be easier, but about half were about the same as the problems in this book (the other half were easier).
My frustrations were that the 12th edition still contains errors, and no errata was published when I bought this book, most were simple and straight forward, but some were frustrating.
The practice problems contain some problems that require references or ideas that are not contained in the reference book (see the problems in chapter 19, fluid power, and note that the book does not contain any methods for calculating hydraulic impedence)... there are only maybe 4 problems like this in the book, so it's not a big deal.
Also, I don't know why the author labeled many problems (1 hour limit)... some were very easy (like 2 minute problems), while other problems that weren't labeled (1 hour limit) took quite a while to compute. It'd be nicer if they were labeled (easy, med, hard) or something of that nature to make studying easier, so you could work all the problems in the area you want to emphasize in, while just doing the 'easy' ones in other areas.
Solutions Manual!.......2001-02-18
For anyone looking for extra problems to work in preparation for the PE exam, take note: this book does *not* provide practice problems. It is a solutions manual for Lindeburg's Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual (look at the larger view of the cover and note the blurb in the upper left corner). It was previously published as the "Solutions Manual for the Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual" -- which I bought last summer along with the reference manual in hopes of taking the test last fall.
I'd rate the book 4 stars if I weren't annoyed at buying it in hopes of having more exam-grade problems to work. The practice problems in the reference manual aren't (IMHO) as good practice as the problems in a book like "101 Solved Mechanical Engineering Problems." The solutions are useful, but the title is inaccurate.

the book is easy to understand and the practice problems all have solutions and reasons behind the answer. it would be nice if it answered some of the problems from the book also.

This book is well-organized and written. It covers the major
subject areas for the CPA exam thoroughly. There is more than

A good overview of US law. There are issues which are matters of opinion and not explained well enough (ex. ethics), and perhaps needn't be addressed at all in a law book. The examples and the references make it a worthy purchase overall.

I got this study guide for an online PoliSci class. Unfortunately, it was of no use to me, as all of our homework and tests were essay. But, I'm sure that in a regular classroom setting this would be great.
