Grade School Lessons & E-Myth Acadamy Advertisement .......2007-10-04
This is, at best the beginning part of a working business solution. Yes, Gerber makes a valid point about the E-myth concept (read other reviews if you don't know the concept) but it's really for beginners (newbs). All his books are really just advertisements, for his E-Myth Academy consulting business in the back of all his books. There is nearly no practical information. He makes his point about the E-Myth, then masterbates it endlesly, re-making that point six ways to Sunday, add nausium and leaves you wondering, well, but what should I do? Well, little lost lamb (newb), go to E-Myth web site or call the 800 number where they have a fast talking sales crew and sign up for 2 years of 700 plus a month (I haven't checked lately) consultation/classes.
After you get the point that to make your technical skill pay/function as a business you need to have business skills/know how. You can sign up for the 700 plus per month for 2 years advertised in the back of his books. Start looking elsewhere for actual practical information. Because there are no E-myth books or tapes that have that information. You can do a lot for your business with that kind of money. I'm always shocked at how newbs starting businesses throw money around. Something to buy and a place to buy it, no matter how pretty it all is, doesn't make a successful business, In my observations, it's the major reason new businesses fail. I'm sure some of you with deep pockets or You corperate types who have never had to find the guts or earn the money to build a small business without Sugar Daddy Warbucks help will think I'm wrong. This E-Myth stuff is valid but it it's grade school lessons made to look like some kind of super-profound truth/solution. Well, it is, grade school true, now what Mr. Gerber, where's the solutions, spend, what, nearly 17,000 Sign up for what I thought I was getting when I bought the Books and tapes? What a greedy little tight wad! When are you going to write a book with substance? Hey Newbs! Trust me, yes you need real business skills, there are plenty of great business books out there, take some of that 17,000 and buy some and be careful with the rest you're going to need it.
`Waxing On' a bit Too Much.......2007-08-28
Reportedly aimed at the small business entrepreneur, this book by consultant Michael Gerber probably has a solution for most every problem being encountered by a business owner, but discovering `your' issue may take too long for the typical small business owner/manager - this is a 400 page tome covering everything from leadership passion to product pricing.
Mastery in this book comes in two forms: Entrepreneurial Self-Mastery conveyed through the story of Michael coaching Sarah (The E-Myth Revisited) and her `All about Pies' business, and Entrepreneurial Business-Mastery conveyed through the seven disciplines for building what Gerber calls a World-Class Company. It is not that the book is written as two separated stories; the reader may just wish it was! If you read through the seven disciplines, it is quite possible (although not made easy by the structure of the book or the interwoven Sarah story) to put together a complete manual for the basics of running a business - small or large. The book is recommended for the non-existent small business owner - one with a too much time on their hands.
Too much information for one book.......2007-06-18
I love Michael Gerber, and I love all of the principles of this book. The problem is that he is trying to take his entire masters program and put it into a book. I actually did the masters program, and it was absolutely fantastic. The problem is you cant fit all of that information into a book, and that is exactly what he tried to do. If you really want to dig into your business I suggest checking out his programs, they are relatively inexpensive and worth every penny.
Useless DRIVEL.......2007-03-04
I think I hate this guy more than any author I've ever read. He is infuriating. He talks about business but tries to sound like a poet and a philosopher and is very BAD at it. He acts like he's Obi Wan Kenobi, here to teach us the deeper spiritual meaning of entrepreneurship. GARBAGE!!! The more I read, the more angry it made me, because I kept waiting for him to get to the dang point and give some great business advice. But it never comes. It's just more and more garbage!!! The last straw came when he said something completely ridiculous that made no sense. It was so convoluted I can't even remember exactly what it was. That's when I finally realized that this guy is just a freaking clown! He's a fraud! In the end I have concluded that this book is nothing but a snake-in-the-grass advertisement for his stupid business consulting service. Boy do I hate this guy for jerking me around like that. I want to slap the person who recommended him to me and said that he's brilliant. He is just one of those extremely emotional/feeling people that are full of garbage. Screw this! I want practical information I can use. I want info from a successful businessman, not a clown!
Please Stop!.......2006-10-17
I felt like I was reading some seedy Romance novel the way Mr. Gerber fawned all over his imaginary Sarah...He creeped me out more than actually provide relevant (and accessible) materials. Ughhh.

Customer Reviews:
Nice Guide for Beginners.......2007-06-16
The author writes a nice overview of the entrepreneurial process. It's basically for novices but it does a good job for this audience. The only problem I have with this book is that it is too basic and is therefore non-unique because it is so low-level. Regardless, I must say that for the right audience, it does a fine job over giving the big picture.
If you are advanced or aspire to become advanced, I would recommend "The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs" but only for high-tech entrepreneurs. Even this author has recommended it.
A Must-Have for Entrepreneurs.......2007-05-14
Steven gives great illustrations to drive home his insightful advice for entrepreneurs. As he's "been there, done that," we can take his advice to heart in the hopes of becoming a success like him!
Exellent Book.......2007-05-11
Great book for getting ready to open a new business. Would refer to anyone thinking about opening a business.
Brief and to the point.......2007-04-27
This is a delightful little book that contains a wealth of useful and helpful information and ideas on starting a small business and ensuring that it is viable and succesful. The book is well written and easy to follow and interesting to read.
This is a must read for entrepreneurs, particularly budding ones as the information the book provides is very practical and can help you avoid making costly errors. The book covers a wide range of topics including the start-up process, marketing the business on a small budget, cash-flow forecasting, among other things.
The book is an excellent companion for the entrepreneur that is well worth having.
Invaluable advice for the budding entrepreneur.......2007-03-04
This book does a terrific job of presenting some of the most important issues entrepreneurs face when embarking on new ventures, touching on topics such as the business plan, funding, team building, and cash flows. Using simple, yet stunningly accurate models of the entrepreneurial process, Steven Gold distills complex subjects into simple, practical, take-away messages. The classification of entrepreneurial personalities (professionals, pragmatists, and inventors) is something I think we can all relate to. I find the metaphor which compares building a new company to making "stone soup" equally compelling. There are countless books out there for budding entrepreneurs, but this one is no fluff. It gets right down to the nuts and bolts so you can concentrate on your business.

Customer Reviews:
Great book for ideas, good insight to businesses.......2007-04-10
This book has some great summaries, about 6 pages in length each for a variety of businesses. Discussions center around best-case scenarios and the author offers bits of interviews from those successful owners and how you can apply it to starting your business. A suprisingly realistic view of quite a few different business options.
I really would like to see an updated version of this book since it was published in 2000 and the market has changed for many small businesses.
New edition fully updated.......2000-10-20
I saw that the first two reviews listed here are for the old edition of this book! The new edition, just released last month, is completely updated. Here are just some examples covering virtually every established and emerging field, including the Internet: Internet marketing, designing web pages, ecotourism, gourmet food shop or producer, take-out restaurateur, adult day services provider, play gym operator, home health care provider, personal chef, dating service provider, B&B innkeeper, craft wholesaler, "whodunit" producer, party planner, and the list goes on and on. Each entry gives a complete behind the scenes look and relays success stories from real entrepreneurs, with verbatim comments and must-know secrets about every aspect of running the business. The introductory chapter gives you all the nuts and bolts information about how to succeed as an entrepreneur with topics like the positive character traits of entrepreneurs, and info about generating capital, business plans, finding lawyers and bookkeepers and bankers, marketing, working from home, finding and keeping employees, and more.
Published in 1992, this book is outdated........1998-12-18
While the author has some good ideas for start-up businesses, she is behind the times. Keep in mind it was most recently published 6 years ago. Read it to get ideas, but don't count on it to reflect current trends. According to the author, typing, word processing, old school computer languages, and pagers are all in hot demand.
good contents.......1998-11-03

The Martha Rules: 10 Essentials for achieving success as you start, build, or manage a business.......2007-08-23
I love this book. Martha Stewart doesn't make you feel stupid when you're reading. The book is written in plain language so you don't need an MBA to understand what she is saying.
Everyone who is thinking about starting a business should read this book.
Martha really does RULE!.......2007-05-01
I love this book! The Martha Rules is chock full of excellent down to earth advice on how to get started in entrepreneurial business. The additional attraction is that these are life lessons as well that can easily be applied to our everyday behavior. I keep it on my desk and just pick it up from time to time since every page has some form of positive reinforcement. And that is a good thing.
Very Good .......2007-01-06
Insightful personal experiences revealed both good and bad with lessons learned. Perhaps her most important mantra is "quality" in everything you do. I have implemented many of her guidelines in my own business and with success.
No-Nonsense Advice for Any Businessperson.......2006-11-04
No matter what you think about Martha Stewart, you cannot argue with her business success. She's managed to turn the domestic arts into a multi-multi-multi-million-dollar empire. This book shares her suggestions for entrepreneurs so they can take advantage of her numerous successes and occasional failures. Written in a straightforward, no-nonsense tone, this book is full of concrete examples and practical advice. A great read for anyone in the business world who wants to take their company to the next level.
Ideas that Stick with You Long After Reading.......2006-09-30
I have always admired Martha Stewart. We are the same age. I know what was expected of girls when we were growing up. So maybe everyone doesn't love her. So what? Her business acumen is inspiring, as well as her life story.
It was so interesting to hear her story of her experience in prison and the women she met there, and that this book grew out of the questions they asked her.
Her points are strong and are common sense. There is no nonsense here. I am also reading
"Internet Riches" by Scott Fox, a new book about striking out for yourself and finding your niche by building an internet business. As I read the book I keep thinking about "The Rules": be frugal, trust yourself, pay attention to the details. The one reinforces the other. Martha gives you the big picture and "Internet Riches" is an excellent step-by-step quide on how to put her rules into practice for your own enrichment. Both books are great!

Easy, Clear and Practical.......2005-05-20
Since opening my small retail shop, I've read dozens of books about business and accounting. Most of them were dry and incomprehensible. As a result I floated through my business rather than owned it. This book explained business issues (accounting, marketing and the like) so that I could really understand how these issues affected my business. It gave examples and illustrations that hit home. I was able to see what changes my business needed and gave me the skills to understand what my financial statements were telling me.
Taking Your Business to the Next Level is Indeed a Success.......2005-04-29
This incredible book takes the reader on a journey through the many faceted world of business. The author clearly knows how to impart excellent strategies and knowledge in a unique and informative manner. Once opened, it is hard to put the book down. Each page holds a surprise.Checklists and questionaires allow the reader to evaluate and set goals. It becomes a unique learning experience to each person who uses it.Ms. McGuckin surely knows her stuff. It was as if I had taken a College Course in how to grow my business!

A+ in Business.......2005-11-21
As a business major at Oklahoma State University I found this book to be an awesome resource for my research. It showed me how to start my own business, create a network, gain capital not only from my family and friends but from places that I didn't even know about. The book was quite straight forward and easy to follow. So many of the statistics used throughout the book really helped me to better understand how far men are ahead of women [or so it seems]. Card even threw somethings back into your face about how women are somewhat passive and aren't as straightforward as men are. I found many facts like that throughout the book and that is what held my interest. This book truely was insightful on many levels and tells it like it is. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to own their own business or is already in their business and is in the bind of possible closer.
A roadmap for getting money for business.......2000-03-22
From complicated terms such as "IPO's" to how to borrow from your family, this book takes you through the steps. The chapter on using networking to locate capital was really interesting, with little tips like marking the cards you get with the date and a note. My only complaint is that the book needs internet addresses. But the information in the back of the book listing resources is invaluable.
Even though I am a man, I found this book to be invaluable........2000-01-19
Starting a small business has been very difficult for me. Finding the answers I need to my questions has been a challenge. This book provided me specific, step-by-step information about how to obtain the money I needed for my business. Surprisingly, money was available for me, but without this book, I would never have found it. If you want money for your business, read this one-of-a-kind book.
