Perfect book for MM Consultants .......2007-09-24
When I saw review of this book in first time I did not know to buy or not. See a lot of mixing review I decided to buy this book and it was good decision for me.
X First, the book translated SAP terms from SAPinese to simple language .You will be able to understand meaning of term and there significance in the business process.
X Second, In this book you can see example of configuration, but do not try to find solution for types of configuration in MM, remember it was not the goal of this book and if you are MM SAP Consultant you have to understand it is not possible to do.
X Third, the book will be able to save your time, because if you have some basic question in MM you will be able to find answers fast and easy. You can use this book during your SAP practice.

More functionality than configuration.....yet a good book .......2007-06-04
Just finished going through the entire book in very much detail...I will have to admit that martin's book is worth 4 stars BUT no more than that. I have my reasons for doing so.
Pro's.
1. This book summarizes the SAP MM functionality in a very good way. Till now the SAP MM area was pretty much starved of any good book.
2. Almost all of his chapters have step-by-step instructions----with screen shots for most of the important steps. This ensures that this book will get used by both the MM user and the consultant that configures the application.
3. A detailed index and a glossary make this book more useful...Although the glossary is towards the end of the book, I found that it was very helpful to go through the glossary before reading the book.
Cons
1. When it comes to the Technical configuration part...this book is not very helpful. To the consultant, the book shows the path to configuring the system...but How? and Why? should the configuration be done is not explained properly....This will definitely get the newcomer or midlevel consultant confused and will make him look out for more expert help.
2. SAP is a very relational application. An incorrect config in one module effects other modules too. This books lacks in its explanation of the 'effects of a configuration being done.'
3. Finally..some important configs have not been explained properly...like 'Pricing Condition technique in MM Purchasing' and 'Release Procedure setup for Documents'.
Over all, this book is a good purchase for the MM user and the newcomer (consultant) coz it explains the MM functionality in a good way.
Suitable for a beginner.......2007-05-12
This book is suitable for someone who doesn't know anything about the MM module. If you're an expert in this module, you may be dissapointed about the book.
SAP MM - Functionality and Technical Configuration - Good but contains errors.......2007-05-10
After browsing through, I find that overall this is a book with good coverage but may lack the dept that I would have hoped for. I have also spotted two errors.
Figures 2.3 (pg 32) and 16.6 (pg 323) are wrong. Figure 2.3 should show Assignment of Plants to Company Codes but show creation of storage locations instead. Figure 16.6 should show MRP List for Material but shows the creation screen for Raw material.

Very good product.......2007-09-27
This book is very good to get understanding of SAP SD structure. Book arrived before it was scheduled to arrive. So I am really happy with in time delivery and quality of the product.
Implementing SAP R/3 Sales and Distribution.......2007-06-26
Excellent read for beginners and high end users. Not enough detail for consultants responsible for configuation.
Very useful book.......2007-01-12
I found hard to find a good book on SAP R3 Sales and Distribution area. I am very satisfied with the contents of this book ; despite this, I would have liked to get also the prospective of the end user as I this book does not cover some -maybe too detailed- aspects of the day to day support work. I guess this was not part of the scope of the book
Very well written - Very informative if you are new to SD.......2007-01-07
I have used this book over and over as a reference and it is pretty well written and covers all the major topics. You should use this in conjunction with SAP help. This book will give you basic introduction to all topics under SD and it does a pretty decent job of teaching you SD config in SAP. I am an SD functional lead and I recommend this book to all my new team members..
Excellent book -- Abap to SD Journey.......2007-01-05
This is excellent book and i am very impressed with it's contents, language and quality.
Well i am have been working with SAP for last 8 years as a Abap/EDI/ALE resource and decided to take make a shift to functioal side.
Started with reading SAP implementation guide and SAP library, also found couple of intresting sites. But the best thing which happened to me was purchasing this book.
This book is very well organised and contains all the basic functionality in SD module with some real time examples. It explains both the SD business process flow and more importantly the configuration.
I would highly recommend this book.

The first installation in the SAP Knowledge Book Series, SAP R/3 System Administration is a first-rate reference book that's much needed, as it hones in on release 4, the latest and much anticipated version of R/3. Author Liane Will's crystalline writing style is an essential element of this book's success. As she covers topics that range from understanding SAP's graphical user interface to archiving data appropriately, her down-to-earth tone makes the complex subject matter considerably less daunting. And as is typically the case with well-constructed reference guides, the pages are generously splashed with configuration commands, screen shots, and tables. The five appendices, which include a glossary, a bibliography, and pages devoted to menu structures and profile parameters, are a useful codicil as well.
In addition to the specific guidance offered on how to keep SAP R/3 running smoothly, this book is also designed to serve as a preparatory text for SAP's Certified Technical Consultant test. For example, each chapter ends with review questions similar to those that may appear on the test. You can try out the knowledge you've gleaned with the timed test engine on the bundled CD-ROM. Customer Reviews:
Good basic info... but not for the seasoned SAP administrator.......2007-03-12
Lots of basic info in this book, but no advanced topics that you will be faced with in SAP administration. Would love to see something more advanced from SAPPress
Usefull but not complete.......2006-03-03
This handbook cover the most of daily problems of managing a SAP environment, however some particular and not so usual problems (like for example E-mail integration ) are not covered at all.
Excellent guide for novice to midlevel BASIS engineers.......2005-09-22
SAP BASIS is very much a "where the rubber meets the road" art, and is subtly different from shop-to-shop. The craft of BASIS is almost always learned at the feet of a self-proclaimed guru, whose credentials may or may not equal what they are advertised to be.
Why is this so? The entry barriers (into SAP) are high, and the audience small. No company realistically wants to hand over multi-million dollar systems to beginners; they will instead seek out seasoned professionals and quickly task those veterans with training the next generation.
There is, however, little incentive for the seasoned BASIS guru to share knowledge. This small, highly technical club remains exclusive because the members of that club wish it to remain so.
But this grim situation may be changing. The doors may be opening, light may be shining on these arcane subjects. Liane's book is a step in that direction.
BASIS covers every point where the SAP VM touches the underlying OS and RDB. That's a huge amount of real estate; no single book could cover it all. But Liane Will's text does a good job, and provides pointers for where to look when the answers you need are not in his book.
If you are learning BASIS or are working with SAP and want to know a little more about it, this well-written, understandable book is for you.
Highly recommended!
A wonderful book to be used as a basic guide to Basis.......2002-04-02
SAP R/3 Administration itself is a vast subject and it is really
foolish if one expects that a book will provide reference to every aspects of it.I have been working with SAP for the past 6 years and worked practically with all versions of the ERP. I find this book very handy as it tries to address the basics (4.x version) and has given structured and correct info. The author has not tried an impossible task of providing info about everything which eventually ends up in a mess . For a starter this book is a must .
Great book to learn and to keep as a reference.......2002-02-02
I passed the SAP Certification exam with the help of this book. All information you need as far as basic SAP Basis administration is simply explained in this book. Easy to read and very well organized. I wish I had that book at the beginning of my first SAP project. Also it is a great reference book for experienced Basis Admins. It just does not cover Change Management, Performance Tuning, Database Administration and User Administration in detail. I bought Sap R/3 Change and Transport Management : The Official Sap Guide (Official Sap Guide) and Sap R/3 Performance Tuning : The Official Sap Guide (Official Sap Guide).
Good Luck!

Customer Reviews:
Great but needs some changes.......2007-06-14
This book may not cover all the topics in FICO but keeping in mind that there is no other product in the market which explains the functionality of FI and CO modules, one has to agree that this is the best book available on this subject.
I am not sure if the authors added any new material to this one in the last 2 years, but as far as my knowledge, this book did not cover "Asset accounting", "Profitability analysis" and "Product costing". But, for anybody who is planning to know the basic functionalities of these modules this is the best book to start with.
The screenshots do not matter a lot as no matter which version you are on , you can still figure out the changes and you can always find the screens and tabs as the transaction codes haven't changed.
It would be great if this book is revised and if the authors can explain the new general ledger structure released in ECC 6.0. There is not much stuff out there on this topic.
A must have book for FICO consultant.......2007-06-02
It is a complete book on FICO configuration. It clearly articulates all the configuration steps required for FI and CO modules for an enterprise using a single company ,as an example, throughout the entire book.
A little background in accounting is needed before starting with this book. I refer the following book to starters, to get the basic knowledge on accounting.
THE ACCOUNTING GAME - Basic Accounting Fresh From the Lemonade Stand
Configuring SAP R/3 FI/CO : The Essential Resource for Configuring the Financial and Controlling Modules.......2007-02-24
This book has a strong and effecient information on the subject, which is very finely explained the complexed and difficult issues in a simple language or grammer.. that is very helpful to grasp and grip the functions of the sap FiCo terminology and its tasks. it is quite interesting to read and impliment practically.
Configuring SAP R/3 FI/CO: The Essential Resource for Configuring the Financial and Controlling Modules .......2007-01-11
Configuring SAP R/3 FI/CO: The Essential Resource for Configuring the Financial and Controlling Modules very important for SAP Consultant
Good resource book for "How To" configure SAP.......2007-01-10
This is a good book and might well deserve a 4 start rating. The pluses are it covers a large range of "How To" tasks necessary for setting up and maintaining your SAP system in as clear a presentation as is possible for the monolith that is SAP. Menu paths and transaction codes are listed and the information is well organized. Its minuses are that the information is out of date so it's difficult to follow the menu paths and some of the T codes don't work any longer. Sometimes the directions are not as specific or detailed as I would like. I would prefer directions that are crystal clear (do this to accomplish X) but I'm afraid that has more to do with the SAP labyrinth than the author. Only 3 starts because of the out-of-date info and lack of detail but still a good starting point to figure things out.

Customer Reviews:
It is not 5.0; it is too generic, nothing technical in it.......2007-08-11
I appreciate that they have written a book that covers all the functional parts of the SAP CRM, BUT they should have specified it is useless for an IT professional and that it is only useful for an IT manager or Marketing person or even a financial person. There is not a hint for an IT person to understand how to link the campaigns to their analysis etc...
mature CRM offering.......2006-10-03
SAP has recently been pushing hard its mySAP, in part to reach a larger market. Here, we see the buildout of its CRM version 4. Replete with many use cases [examples] to help the reader gain expertise. One case is to generate a repair order. The screen capture for this example depicts a GUI that is rich in many options that the reader might need for her situation.
Another big feature is the mySAP CRM Interaction Centre. Think of this as souped up help desks. With advanced searching of the data base of previous help queries and replies. So that the help desk personnel can productively make use of accumulated experience, and more quickly solve a user's problem.
The book also stresses efficient channel management, and that partners should be integrated into CRM for competitive advantages.
Much to read about.
very good condition.......2006-07-14
good condition and received in short time. i suggest this seller to by from
Good overview.......2006-03-01
If you are looking for an overview into CRM in general, this is a good book. If you want to learn anything in depth about SAP CRM this will not help you. There is nothing specific here about SAP CRM, no how to's, transactions, not even a detail explanation or example of a BDoc.
Good insight in to CRM.......2005-10-24
This is the best book i have found , which goes deep into the CRM Subject.

Customer Reviews:
Great overall reference.......2007-08-15
I am on a project team that is starting the implementation of a specialized SAP module, and I purchased Mr. Anderson's book to help me get a high-level overview of the overall SAP application. I am a relatively new SAP user, and this book was extremely valuable in helping me ascend the learning curve and get up-to-speed on this project. I can now have intelligent conversation with our technical staff, ask knowledgeable questions, and generally understand their answers.
My suggestions at this point would be to include a general glossary and an acronym glossary. I would also recommend, in addition to the "Watch out" and "By the way" boxes, another information source titled, "For further information on this topic".
Given that an overall reference for SAP could easily be the size of a set of encyclopedias, I would give this single book 5 stars out of 5.
A little bit here and there.......2007-07-26
Although many good points are made in this easy to read book, it clearly suffers from a lack of target audience definition. As a theoretical intro to the field, one doesn't need to know how to customize a screen in SAP. As an intro user's guide, one doesn't need to know many of the more technical topics briefly discussed. Since there isn't enough coverage for any one audience, I can't recommend this book.
Not really worth the purchase.......2007-03-16
This book is not intended for technical users. It provides a very high level guide for day to day users. Chapters 1-3 are worth reading to get a broad overview of SAP.
After those three chapters, the book suffers from trying to cover just a tiny bit of everything in SAP. The authors dont want to leave anything out, but at the same time they don't cover anything in great detail.
At your company, you will probably need to learn certain components and transaction in SAP, but surely not everything.
I recommend reading the first 3 chapters, and then the single chapter on the area of SAP in which you will be working. Reading much more than that will probably be a waste of time. I doubt you will ever use it as a reference and that is why I do not recommend purchasing it. It might be available at your local library.
To its credit, the book is well written. The pictures are in black and white, but are still useful. Learning how to use SAP, however, is best done in front the computer with a teacher at your side. I learned much more in a half-hour session with a seasoned user than I did by reading several chapters of this book.
Excellent Resource.......2007-02-06
We give this book to all folks new to SAP; especially good for sales executives, account managers, project managers, and others who do are not in a technical position and need to gain a good overview of SAP and SAP's latest architecture
Good but not Great..........2006-12-29
I was looking for a book that would provide a beginners introduction to SAP. Well this book did fulfill my needs to a great extent. This book is probably the most up to date introductory book on SAP. It also provides a good concise history, purpose, and value for each of the SAP modules. However the book fails to show how various modules link to each other. It also fails to explain why there are so many modules. I did find answers to all these questions but that was with the help of other books.
This book will set you in right direction but don't expect it to answer all your questions. It seriously needs some good technical diagrams. Diagrams in the book are of no value.

SAP PRESS SMARTFORM.......2007-05-15
As usual SAP PRESS has done an excellent job with this book. About 90% is excellent to the point that taking an SAP class is really NOT necessary so save your money. Class instructions really will not assist you further anyhow. The 10% that falls short is in examples that would be better served with either more direct screen prints or less verbage.
good book... a comprehensive reference.......2004-06-11
It's very well organized and detailed. The authors don't leave anything in vague terms - they explain it all. There aren't really any other books on this topics, so it's not hard to say that this is the best one. this book was all i needed to get started since programming skills are not needed. Actually I kind of use this book as a guide to avoid programming altogether. I definitely recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
It is enough good.......2007-05-21
It is a good guide to begin a good SAP performance.
Good book for the reference lib.......2006-11-06
It's difficult to keep up with all the changes, impact, and new tools that Netweaver technology is requiring for configuring and maintaining the environments. I think that this book has merit in that it stick with some of the aspects and tasks that have not changed as much, and gives an update to some of the older information. For the $$ it is a good book.
Great Overview Without Getting Bogged in Details.......2006-01-20
One of my long standing complaints about computer software books is that they so often eliminate the first forty pages or so that explain just what this software is and what is supposed to do. This book (at 606 pages it's a lot more than forty pages) is essentially the front end description that explains what SAP ERP is and what it si supposed to do.
The subtitle of the book is 'Essential Skills for SAP Technical Consultants.' It appears to be aimed at the individual who is trying to decide what SAP can do for them. It's much less concerned with the detail of how to do it.
I found this to be of great help, as SAP is a huge software system. It has perhaps a thousand components (does anyone really know) from various vendors that can be tied together to handle most ERP problems. If you're going to use SAP, just which of all these components are you going to pull together to solve your particular set of problems.
After you know what you're trying to do, then there are other books and manuals that will give you the details about how to do it. So if at this point you are wondering just what is the difference between SAP R/3, and mySAP.com, and SAP Web Application Server, and SAP NetWeaver, this is the place to start. All in all, it's good to see such a book. I hope this is a trend getting started and that we can see other books coming on other big software packages that's more aimed at what can be done.
What happened in the new edition?.......2006-01-18
This edition appears to be about 1/3 the size of previous editions; and refers to a fairly old version of SAP... even though this was released in Dec 2005.
There is a great many things missing here. SPAM... I guess you do not need that any more.
Perhaps the publishers wanted a book for managers.
Anyway, if you are considering this, get the 2nd edition... or buy one of the many that are used, as I expect there will be many BASIS admins selling this back the day after they purchase it.
Sorry... I was hoping for an updated version of Edition 2.
Poor Book, barely skims the surface.......2004-12-29
