Customer Reviews:
paralegal practice and procedure.......2007-09-20
I think this is an excellent reference source - the law is difficult and any one book reference guide can only go so far in introducing you to a practice area that allows you to get the ball rolling. This book does a good job.
The only issue I have is that it's a 1994 edition and is in need of a fourth edition update. For instance, the bankruptcy law chapter should probably be avoided because the substantial changes that occurred in 2005 isn't included.
Not helpful at all........2002-08-07
Everything in this book is too general to be of any practical value, especially if litigation is not your practice area.
Needed Excelelnt Reference Guide, Got It.......2002-06-12
In order to exapand my skill set I needed a book that gave me an overview of multiple areas of paralegal work. Sometimes I would get called for something they would say do you do estates wills and trusts or corporate derivatives? And while my experience may've lent to it, unless you've done something for years and years its hard to jump right into a conversation about it. Not so with this book at your fingertips. Gives you excellent outline of an assortment of areas.
Am I advocating getting this book and diving in? Yes, whatever your field you should have another field that you're actively involved in learning and creating as a branch from your main interest. I started in graphic design, did so many presentations that I got into finance and worked on so much legal stuff that I got into taxation and legal work. It is my plan to go onto law school just for the pure learning but with books like this and a solid commitment to learning you can get someone, a firm an attorney to sponsor you and go take the Bar. yes, it's that good.
My only wish is that I had ordered it from here but I needed it quick, fast and in a hurry so I bought it from a store.
Review of Paralegal Practice and Procedure: A Practical Guid.......2002-01-22
As an individual who was very new to the paralegal profession, I found that the book was only minimally beneficial in that many of the explanations and legal terms were not clearly defined or explained...It definitely left me feeling like I needed help from other sources...
Best Book In Its Field. Buy it and arm yourself........2001-12-04
This member of the greater jury of the vast public is limited to awarding only 5 stars as I cannot award what I would like:
a constillation.
It is hands down the best guide for the person that really does the true work:the paralegal. That degree of help is only surpassed by its invaluable greater need in helping the pro se individual to look, not so "...pro se...".
It is a recipe book for law.
Thank you Deborah E. Larbalestrier,

Customer Reviews:
Good book - well written.......2007-01-10
I had to buy this book as part of a college course curriculum.
This was an informative and well written book which was also easy to read and follow. I can't stand boring complicated college books so this one was a welcome change. It really helped to break down the litigation process and defined many terms and uncomplicated some things that would have been quite difficult otherwise.
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone just wanting to know more about litigation, especially those who don't want to be bogged down with technical legal jargon which is hard for most people to understand.
Book Description
This supplement can be used with any introduction to paralegalism text. It gives students opportunities to practice with techniques like qualifying evidence, interviewing clients, drafting documents, preparing resumes, and more. Many hypothetical scenarios apply concepts to real-life situations.
Book Description
Using case studies based on actual events and investigations, the reader learns practical applications of investigative techniques and strategies and interviewing methods for all areas of litigation. The materials were developed using investigations performed, Federal Statues and rules, practical application of paralegal work ethics and responsibilities, and a law school text.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Reference and Classroom Book.......2006-08-06
This is simply the best reference and classroom book on the market - hands down. Cynthia tought this college class for years based on her own material, basically because there simply wasn't a book on the market that met her high standards. Additionally, she has toured through out the US providing live seminars on the contents of this book to sellout crowds. (PS, don't worry about the disgruntled student that used this forum to slandar the author. That student is now flipping burgers for living and couldn't appreciate a high-standard instructor)
terrible book and person.......2003-12-31
she is a terrible author, i know her personally and she is the meanest person you will ever meet.
A Very Useful Resource.......1999-12-22
I found Civil Interviewing and Investigation for Paralegals by Cynthia Bandars Schroeder to be interesting, practical, and full of valuable charts, tables, forms and checklists. In addition to providing a step-by-step approach to interviewing and investigation starting with the basics and continuing through the more complex topics of non-verbal communication , emotional issues, and difficult clients, the author includes detailed lists of public, private, internet and print resources that everyone can use. The book is user-friendly and extremely well organized. Each chapter has a short summary at the end for quick reference and the information in the appendices will keep this book on top of the desk rather than on the bookshelf.
A necessity for every law office!.......1999-12-16
It takes a tremendous amount of time to train new paralegals. This book is an excellent training manual for the paralegal. Any paralegal that has read this book should be ready to hit the ground running and be a valuable asset to their firm. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in civil litigation.
A must have for anyone who does or wants to investigate!.......1999-12-11
This book is a one of a kind. Not only does it cover interviewing and investigating techniques and processes but it gives practical ways of practicing those skills. Who needs a private investigator when they can use this book. Of all the years I have worked in the legal profession I have never seen a desk reference book with this much useful data. I was able to identify and use materials from county, state, and federal offices without ever having to call for help. In addition the appendices offer commonly used state office phone numbers and addresses, useful documents, and a section on anatomy. For the personal injury insurance adjustor, litigator, or paralegal the anatomy is a rare find.
Book Description
The leading text in the field takes a practical approach, illustrating legal principles through examples, exercises, legal forms, checklists, and actual drafts of wills and trusts. Students are exposed to detailed procedures and are prepared for everyday practical duties of the paralegal through comprehensive, authoritative coverage. Blend of theory and practice balances the need for understanding concepts and law and the need to be able to apply it.
Customer Reviews:
great book for starter law or paralegal student.......2007-08-21
I found this an easy to read book that explained lots of basics. A great book for a trust, will or estate law class.
Not sure if order has been cancelled yet.......2005-10-17
Have been waiting now over 5 weeks for this book to arrive. Class will be over in 9 weeks. Could not afford to wait any longer. Bought at local bookstore. Still have no idea whether book will be arriving in mail sometime this year, or whether order has been cancelled. Web-site will not let me cancel order.
Book Description
This practical, paralegal-specific text takes an applied approach to administrative law. Chapter-opening vignettes and two case studies used throughout the text illustrate how concepts apply to real world situations. Excerpts of legislation, statutes, and sample rules allow students to read the actual law and original material. Sample documents, sample pages from research sources, and other illustrations provide examples of materials with which students will need to be familiar. Exercises help students apply chapter material by performing paralegal tasks. Edited cases at the end of each chapter illustrate chapter concepts and most are discussed within the chapter.
