1 out of 5 stars not good seller.......2005-10-01

I placed the order the book, but unfortunately, the text book was wrong one. Although I tried to contact this seller to return the book and have it refund as soon as I received the book, nobody responded to me. Eventually, I still keep this book and did not get refund. I'm afraid that this seller is not so good as everyone might tihnk when it comes to trouble shooting.

Book Description

The Sixth Edition offers a basic explanation of the legal rights and responsibilities of people in both the public and private sectors. Co-authored by a practicing attorney and a college professor, Business Law features practical and up-to-date content written in clear, straightforward language. The authors avoid using court jargon and show rather than tell students about the law with in-text examples, current and interesting cases, and ethical dilemmas.

In addition to timely coverage of pressing issues, extensive pedagogical tools help students understand how business law applies to life. In-text examples immediately illustrate and reinforce the concepts under review. At the end of each chapter, Cases for Review present mini-cases and ask students to review the facts and make a judgment based on concepts learned in the chapter. Questions and Problems to Discuss also test students' comprehension of key chapter topics.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Only good if you're completely new........2007-08-26

Lot of book is common knowledge. Chapters too long. Examples at end of chapters aren't very creative. Definitely a starter/intro level book.

3 out of 5 stars Decent starter........2007-02-26

From what I can tell this book does a great job compressing business law into very concise chapters. I for one don't like long drawn out chapters about the same subject matter. I lose interest after the first few hours of reading any text book. The chapters move quick enough to really make me feel interested in the subject. I use this book for a intro into business law and think is does a pretty decent job aiding my education.

2 out of 5 stars Good for beginners, but likely to upset anyone else!.......2006-09-24

If you're buying this book for yourself, spare yourself the headache. It is certainly not of any academic value, and considering what I've read so far, it does even appear to be a business law book. The book chronicles very simple and basic legal matters, and presents these topics in such a way, someone interested in a thorough discussion of them would likely become upset.

As I said before, unless you have a very basic interest in law, ignore this book as much as you can. Also, because the book is not state-specific, there's not much you can get out of the book. It presents general information, which is of no use to those who want to learn specifics.

I've given it two stars just because it would probably be good for a beginner.

3 out of 5 stars Quailty.......2006-02-17

we had some shipping problems with this book, but it got to me in one piece and in proper time.

Book Description

Compliance requirements are here to stay.

Prepare your company for the growing challenge.

A Wall Street Journal/Harris poll revealed that two thirds of investors express doubts in the ability of corporate boards of directors to provide effective oversight. In the shadow of recent global scandals involving businesses such as Parmalat and WorldCom, Manager's Guide to Compliance: Best Practices and Case Studies is essential reading for you, whether your organization is a major corporation or a small business.

This timely handbook places U.S. and global regulatory information, as well as critical compliance guidance, in an easy-to-access format and helps you make sense of all the complex issues connected with fraud and compliance.

"Wide perspectives and best practices combined deliver a punch that will knock your 'SOX' off! The author has blended together a critical mix necessary for effectively handling the requirements of SOX."
—Rob Nance, Publisher, AccountingWEB, Inc.

"Robust compliance and corporate governance is an absolute necessity in today's business environment. This new book by Anthony Tarantino is an authoritative guide to understanding and implementing compliance and regulatory requirements in the United States and around the world. From SOX to COSO to ERM, this book covers them all."
—Martin T. Biegelman, Certified Fraud Examiner, Fellow and Regent Emeritus of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and coauthor of Executive Roadmap to Fraud Prevention and Internal Control: Creating a Culture of Compliance

"If compliance wasn't difficult enough, now companies are faced with a barrage of technology vendors claiming to automate compliance as if it were a project. In his new book, Dr. Tarantino paints the reality of the situation: companies need to embrace the broader tenets of governance and use technology to embed governance policies and controls into their daily business processes. Only then can they gain business value from their compliance investments."
—Chris Capdevila, CEO and cofounder, LogicalApps

3 out of 5 stars Reference only.......2007-07-04

Useful as a reference guide, but not something that I would recommend as the first or last read on Compliance. Have kept it around as a great reference document.

4 out of 5 stars very useful book.......2007-03-13

i have just read some chapter such as Sarbanes-Oxley and fast scan the other. I think it is the book which i look for.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding.......2007-01-24

Prior to reading this book I knew almost nothing about compliance. The book is well written and easy to understand for anyone that has formal accounting education. The book provided a tremendous amount of insight, and was very practical. The book has helped out at work tremendously.

5 out of 5 stars Most Helpful for My Accounting and Auditing Groups.......2006-04-29

As the CFO of a privately held company looking to go public in the next few years this is what we needed to focus our compliance and governance programs.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Reading for My US and Chinese Businesses.......2006-04-29

Dr. Tarantino's book was exactly what I needed to understand the many regulations facing my businesses in the US and China. It will be required reading for my various managers and directors.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I recommed it to my students.......2005-02-17

I am a law professor and this is the one book about legal writing I recommend to my students. However, please note that this book is not a textbook. There are better textbooks to teach [and learn] analytical thinking, persuasive writing and legal research. What this book provides is a great quick reference guide to some of the most common problems in writing in general and legal writing in particular. The book is well organized and concise. The material is organized around short rules and for every rule there are good examples of poor writing and suggestions on how to improve it.

3 out of 5 stars Accurate but dry........2001-11-21

Go ahead and use this book as a reference. Skim it once in a while to refresh your memory about correct legal style. But don't sit down and read it straight through, as I did. I found it slow going and dry.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad, but nothing new.......2001-06-03

This book is one of many on legal writing. The information usually stays the same even though the titles change. It would be a good start for an attorney with little background in writing. But if you've read other books on legal writing, pass this one by.

5 out of 5 stars Along Came A Legal Writer.......2001-04-23

THE ELEMENTS OF LEGAL WRITING nowadays are clear, simple everyday language avoiding lawyerisms and following standard grammar and word order. Computer and word processing graphic design and typeface breakthroughs make how documents look important: text in attractively manageable chunks, such as paragraphs each generally running no longer than about 1/4-1/2 of the page, and with descriptive headings, footnotes and transitions prioritizing orderly presentation of ideas and respecting the visually balancing role of white space. Authors Martha Faulk and Irving M Mehler review effective format, grammar, organization, tone, and word order choices. Their book would interest readers of Clarice R Cox and Jerrold G Brown's REPORT WRITING FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROFESSIONALS, THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND CRIMINOLOGY ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB, Barbara Frazee and Joseph N Davis' PAINLESS POLICE REPORT WRITING, and Don MacLeod's THE INTERNET GUIDE FOR THE LEGAL RESEARCHER

3 out of 5 stars The material is presented in a language too technical .......2004-10-14

I just took the state exam (and passed!!), I have to say this book is written in too much of a technical manner and too many details for it to be an easy read. I felt I had to constantly translate paragrapgs into "plain english" to keep me going ...the material is presented in too much of a "dry" manner. Lots of times it was confusing to understand what was said, it was very contradictory. If you are taking the state exam, I highly recommend that you form a study group to "disect" what all the languge is...

This is the text book for the class you are required to take AND pass in order to qualify to take the Florida Real Estate Licensing Exam. So don't buy this book if you don't intend to earn your Florida Real Estate License or continue on to broker status. But if you do, you MUST have this book.

The rub with this product is that it contains quizes and a review test BUT THEY DO NOT PROVIDE THE ANSWERS!!!!! I spoke with the publisher and I was told that the book is for classroom use only and the answers will not be provided. If you are studying for the FL RE sales exam, this book is virtually usless without the answer key. SHAME ON AMAZON FOR SELLING THIS PRODUCT WITHOUT DISCLOSURE!!

    4 out of 5 stars A good starting point.......2002-10-24

I am currently taking the FREC Salesperson I course and this is the book, as you know, we must use. If you are not taking the State Exam, there is no real reason to buy this book unless you just want to educate yourself. Reason being -- the book's goal, like most of it's kind, is for the student/reader to pass the state exam in the end. Hence, there are probably other books out there that convey similar information that aren't booged down with useless details that only exam takers need to know.

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE KEY TO PASSING THE SALESPERSON EXAM.......2001-11-28

I was reading a few reviews about this book. The answer keys to the end of chapter and practice question at the end of the book are available through your instructor. Please note that this book alone will not allow you to take the state exam without a 63 hour Pre-lic. Course. For those who don't understand the material and want the answers to the questions in the book should ask their instructors when they take the required pre-lic. Salesperson FREC I course. As far as the text book, the text book material is excellent!

If you want to learn pretty much everything you could hope to learn in a basic real estate class, this is a great book to do it with.

My professor basically rambled the whole class, but I read the book and still made an easy A in the class.

All of the details are covered completely, but are easy to read. The beginning of each chapter lists all the definitions for that chapter on one page, which makes for an easy review.

There aren't any color picture, but the black and white diagrams do just fine, and it keeps the cost down, which is fine with me.

This is one textbook I'm actually considering keeping.
