Customer Reviews:
Well worth the money........2006-05-21
I own the 4th edition. I had to make a comment after amazon recommended the 5th.
This is a great book. Originally, i was PO'ed at the price. Especially when you get it and its quite thin compared to many texts. I had to get it for APICS.
Once you start reading it you find it cuts through all waste. This is not a padded book. It explains concepts in a brief, direct manner. Most importantly it communicates clearly. Its like a well written executive summary of the field of materials management. There is enough detail for practitioners.
I have almost all texts in the recommended reading of APICS. This is probably my favorite. The utility you will get per unit of time reading this is huge.
Basic Supply Chain.......2006-03-14
This book has an easy written language and is very good for beginners in the Supply Chain Management Area.
Best book to understand manufacturing process.......2006-02-01
This is one of the best books I have come across which explains the basics of Manufacturing.
A good textbook.......2005-11-17
This book covers the basics of material management and goes into some quantitative detail as well. It is very well written and its lucid style is perfect for a beginner to get a grasp on the subject.
The author clearly and logically explains the concepts of production planning, master production schedule, MRP, Production and activity control, purchasing, inventory management, forcasting, demand planning and much more.
The book also has an abundance of examples and exercises for the student to work through. It makes a good read as a beginner's textbook - but it is probably not very useful as a practical guide for the experienced professional.
Introduction to Materials Management (5th Edition) by J.R. Tony Arnorld (hardcover).......2005-09-04
I was surprised that I got the book was kind of old and not a hardcover as I saw online.

Book Description
A basic grounding in one of today's quickly evolving technologies. To gain one's bearing in the whirlwind of rapid development in the digital theory arena, getting a firm grasp of the basics is vital. This book provides a solid foundation in the elements of basic digital electronic and switching theory. Down to earth, yet scholarly in approach, it builds on theory with discussions of real-world digital components, design methodologies, and tools. A companion Web site provides additional information.
Customer Reviews:
Poor Intro to Digital.......2005-05-22
This book was assigned for my undergrad intro digital logic class. It is probably the worst possible introduction to the subject. The material is only mildly to moderately difficult in practice, but the authors managed to make it convoluted. If you are unfortunate enough to have this book assigned, I suggest that you purchase another textbook on the subject, and just get the homework problems from your classmates or from the reserve copy at the library.
A Book Not To Read.......2002-11-01
This book is absolutely horrible. The Professor who teaches this class with this book HE WROTE, is utterly dispicible because of his teaching ability. This professor, at UC Irvine does not know the one bit in teaching a COMPLICATED subject like Digital Systems to a class who has had little to no experiece with this type of work. I hope this book is revoked for any reason, and hope that professor reads this review in order to gain some knowledge about the way he is teaching a class of Engineers in an era where knowledge is not automatically achieved, rather taught by knowledgable instructors.
Tell your teacher to get another book!.......2000-06-26
I used this book for an introductory logic design class. I was able to learn from it, but it was difficult. The teacher didn't even use it much. The book was not well written and hard to understand. I recommend learning from another book.
Good reference, poor for beginners.......2000-03-29
I began learning about hardware design with this book. Now I use it for reference.
But for beginners, this is not a very good book. Although hardware design is somewhat difficult to explain, the book does not analyze subjects in detail or how circuits work. When it does try to explain topics, it does not do so clearly and provides few examples. Unless you have outside help (such as a teacher, professor, teaching assistant, etc.), I would definitely recommend finding another book to learn about hardware design because you will struggle while trying to figure out how things work (if you are a novice).
If you want something detailed, this book ain't it.......1999-05-25
This book is very "bare" when and it doesn't offer enought examples. This book is difficult to understand and takes deciphering the material takes many tedious hours. Therefore, I would like to conclude by saying this is absolutly the worst text book that was ever written.

Book Description
In the quest to remove supply channel costs, streamline channel communications, and link customers to the value-added resources found along the supply chain continuum, Supply Chain Management (SCM) has emerged as a tactical operations tool. The first book to completely define the architecture of the merger of SCM and the Internet, Introduction to e-Supply Chain Management: Engaging Technology to Build Market-Winning Business Partnerships shows you how to exploit this merger and gain an unbeatable competitive advantage. The tightening of the economy and heavier restrictions and security measures placed on channel flows have rendered access to real-time, accurate supply chain information more critical than ever. Connectivity, messaging, and collaboration have become today's foremost buzzwords, as companies compete for survival in an environment where cycle times and permissable margins of error continue to shrink. Introduction to e-Supply Chain Management explores the concepts, techniques, and vocabulary of the convergence of SCM and the Internet so that companies can move beyond merely surviving and thrive in today's competitive marketplace.

DOE step by step with examples.......2006-10-28
DOE is the set of process improvement tools for studying more than one factor in a single experiment. The 92 page book is straight forward with many examples to show the methodology for setting up 2, 3 and up to 31 factor experiments which according to the author will cover >90% of the DOE requirements.
The workbook is filled with case studies and examples from manufacturing problems which guide you through the process and help evaluate your understanding before moving to the next section. The mathematical/statistical equations are a bit intimidating but these can be set-up in a spreadsheet. The author says that these DOE tools can be used on office or sales processes but never gives an example of one.
The value in this book is if you are doing a quality or six sigma project. Also, it will be of value if you are working in industries like chemical or mining, where yields are the key to success. The book shows the equations to use, the eight steps for analysis and the logical steps to creating an experiment. Additionally, it includes an appendix with T (95% confidence level) and F (degree of freedom) values which are necessary references if you attempt to do this without a statistical software package.
This book is headed in the right direction..........1999-09-09
This is the second least complicated book I have ever read on DOE. Thanks Larry for writing the book! I wish that it had MANY more examples showing each DOE type he covers...Also, there is a need to FURTHER elaborate in simpler terms all of the concepts. I am still not understanding why a DOE book can't come out that isn't easy to read!

High level rip off.......2002-01-15
I'm not a Supply Chain professional yet I found this book too conceptual and simplistic. A concept book needs to at least be thought provoking. It is not. [....]
Very very introductory indeed!.......2002-01-11
I found the book a (loose) collection of short descriptions of concepts. If you are looking for a "dictionary" of supply chain concepts, this is probably the cheapest way to obtain one. For an introductory course in SCM however, this book is way to basic. The authors have tried to make the book more serious by including some case studies (very superficial) with simulation experiments in chapter 5, but this make the whole book even less coherent. SO you have guessed by now I did not find the book worth the (low amount) of money.
Not an Integrated Approach.......2001-07-13
Although the book covers several introductory themes about the supply chain management, there is a lack of integration inside the book. The book contains several footnotes to different articles and books. It made me feel that the book was written in a somehow assembly manner.
SCM starter.......2001-03-06
Early MBA level.

Book Description
Logistics is defined as a business planning framework for the management of material, service, information and capital flows. Logistic systems have received considerable attention in the last 10 years, as they constitute one of the cornerstones in the design and control of production systems and the modeling of supply chains. This renewed interest is partly due to the recognition that well-known planning and control systems such as ‘Manufacturing Resources Planning’ and ‘Just in Time’ systems fail to establish a sound integration of lead time management, capacity planning and quality considerations.
This book uniquely:
- Presents a balanced treatment of quantitative methods for logistics systems planning, organization and control.
- Each topic is illustrated with real examples.
- Each chapter features an annotated bibliography of key references.
- Features a number of case studies that show how the methods can be applied to complex logistics problems.
- Assumes only a basic knowledge of operations research.
- Supported by a Website (http://wileylogisticsbook.dii.unile.it) featuring exercises and teaching material.
A unique, leading edge title for researchers, practitioners, and students of logistics and supply chain management, in both academia; engineering, computer science, management science, undergraduate, graduate students and industry professionals.

Book Description
“The stories kept me wanting more and the lessons are valuable information for pre-service teachers. Bravo!”
—Sharon Ulanoff,
California State University, Los Angeles
“
Narratives from the Classroom
will be useful in its ability to stimulate students to get in touch with their past experiences in education in a critical way. The questions offer a natural beginning for sharing experiences. In this way, beliefs and values can be recognized, scrutinized, and defended.”
—James Curtiss,
Wayne State College
“These narratives provide expansive opportunities for reflection and encourage each student to come to their own understanding about what it means to be a teacher.”
—Betty C. Eng,
Hong Kong Institute of Education
In order for pre-service teachers to fully understand what it means to choose teaching as a career, it is important for them to connect with experienced teachers who can share their experiences of what occurs within the walls of schools. Narrative accounts of teachers’ experiences with students, parents, administrators and colleagues are an excellent way for pre-service teachers to obtain a clearer picture of what teaching really involves.
Narratives from the Classroom: An Introduction to Teaching introduces the reader to many of the important classroom issues surrounding the field of teaching. This book is unique in that it is a collection of personal accounts and ideas written by the teachers and teacher educators who lived those experiences. Because this is an introduction to teaching, each chapter addresses a different topic, ranging from the purpose of schools and teachers, issues about policies and programs in the school, and various practices found within the classroom walls. There is also a section that addresses preparation for the job market and what the first year of teaching is like. This book deliberately avoids being prescriptive and encourages the reader to form his or her own conclusions about the presented issues.
Narratives from the Classroom is designed as a supplemental text for teacher education courses, especially those at the introductory stages. Beginning teachers and anyone considering teaching as a career will also find this collection an important and insightful addition to their libraries.
Key Features
- Editor’s introduction to each narrative provides context
- Questions and further readings stimulate the reader’s engagement and commitment to the topic
- Narratives provide readers with significant exposure to 16 experienced teachers and teacher educators
- Coverage includes diverse experiences and opinions from authors of various ethnic backgrounds
