1 out of 5 stars Not impressed..........2007-06-08

I purchased this book because of all the great reviews it received. I was not impressed. Everything was way too simplistic. If you're an intermediate or professional painter, you will not learn anything from this book that you don't already know.

5 out of 5 stars REAL help for a struggling painter.......2007-05-12

AWESOME book packed to the full with inspiring paintings & photos, really practical tips for the would be painter, and help over all those overwhelming and sometimes insurmountable difficulties confronting the aspirant oil painter. Replaces mystery with method. I'm really thrilled to have discovered Kevin Macpherson's approach to painting "plein air" and am already seeing the fruits of applying it.

Good reference book; should be in all artists library.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Advice and Technique.......2007-01-13

I used to use a pallete of 10 colors but took the author's advice and tried using 3 plus white. Within one day I learned I can mix most colors. The important thing is the pure simplicity and fantastic range of colorful grays you'll generate while mixing. Try it. Later, he says to add a green and gradually others.

His advice on simplifying shapes is wise. The eye averages images. Your intellect wants to paint detail everywhere but that's not what the eye actually sees. To create realistic scenes it's necessary to see color correctly and avoid the urge to sketch with paint. Viewed closely, great paintings often show blotches of color and heavy brush strokes but viewed as a whole it all works together and conveys harmony and an emotional pull.

As for materials, I agree with the author's selection of hardboard-like supports. The Mona Lisa is painted on board and I'm not about to criticise DaVinci.

North Light Books publishes many good painting guides and this volume is one of the best.

5 out of 5 stars Great for the Beginner.......2006-12-04

I took an art class at the museum and our teacher had this book, she let us practice using this book. It is time consuming, but worth it! I've never painted using this technique before and I was suprised at how good I did. It's well worth buying and adding to your library!

Noory is the host of America's top late-night radio talk show, Coast to Coast AM, which is broadcast to more than 500 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada and streamed over the Internet to more thannbsp;ten million people, five nights a week. Noory truly believes that there are forces, both good and evil, at work on Earth, forces that can be harnessed by human beings. Through Worker in the Light, George Noory will show readers how to:*Unlock the secrets to unlimited spiritual growth*Transcend all doubts and fears*Shatter the prison walls of their five senses*Deploy the power of intuition to see the future*Free themselves from the confines of time*Facilitate the power of lucid dreaming nbsp;Through easily understood, step-by-step instructions, and examples from his own life, George Noory shows how he has surpassed his own limitations and frustrations, how he has freed himself from doubts and fears, and how he glimpsed the right way out of life's desperate straits. He will teachnbsp;readers how tonbsp;overcome fear and doubt and find happiness and success.

1 out of 5 stars One Star is One Star Too Many.......2007-09-24

George Noory is no Art Bell. He is ignorant of many of the subjects on which he interviews people, and you can occasionally hear a smirk in his voice when he's talking to a caller. He does occasionally have an interesting guest, but C2C generally has become drivel since Art Bell's latest retirement. I sure hope that he comes back. The book is as bad as the show. It is a surface treatment of serious esoteric subjects, written for mass appeal with no depth of treatment or understanding. If you're interested in a particular esoteric topic, use amazon's search feature to find a book that examines that subject.

1 out of 5 stars George prefers to be the subject, not the host.......2007-09-21

I was once nightly listener to C2C.I thought GN provided a good "changeup pitch" as he spelled Art every now and then.I also thought GN was a very good transitional host when Art left. Then, little by little I began to notice less is more with George, his patronising tone and need to "inject" himself as a story in himself would have me skipping the show more and more.I picked up this book and took a chance that I had misread ole George,it only reaffirmed my feelings.I don't hate George, but I've reached the point where he's turned me off C2C,Ian's not bad though.

1 out of 5 stars Worker in the Dark.............2007-09-18

The book is as disappointing as GN is as the host of C2C. So far from the high benchmark that Art Bell created for his show. Any of the guest hosts would be a better choice to hand the show over to than GN. But back to the book.... but it's hard to separate the two efforts, words like "shallow" and "unoriginal" come to mind to describe them both. This author(?) thinks he's so enlightened and spritual, when the content of this book, like his comments/questions on the show, are just re-warmed, unoriginal dogma that made me want to close the book and watch t.v. - which is what i finally did, in fact. Nothing new or inspiring here to keep you turning the page. Had to give it 1 star because it's the lowest rating - but would have given it 0 stars if it had been possible. Save your money - so not worth it. My (used) copy is now gracing the shelves of my neighborhood Goodwill. RIP.

3 out of 5 stars What book?.......2007-09-12

I ordered the book and paid for it but never recieved it. I like George Norry and I'm a big fan of Coast to Coast and I wanted to read it.

5 out of 5 stars If You Enjoy Paranormal Biographies -- You'll Like This book.......2007-08-21

I just finished reading "Worker in the Light" by George Noory and I've got to say - if you're the least bit interested in the reading about the paranormal - and you enjoy reading biographical material -- this might be a good book for you.

George is well known as the host of America's top late-night radio talk show, Coast to Coast AM (where a diverse array of educated and then seemingly-brain-dead listeners call in to talk about anything that's NOT main stream media; they talk about ghosts, vampires, astral travel, sasquatch sightings, alien abductions and more).

In contrast . . . the book has very little to do with the Coast to Coast radio show - so if you're expecting "expert interviews" with reputable resources working in the paranormal you might be disappointed. Instead -- "Worker in the Light" shares Noory's very personal experiences with paranormal and psychic phenomena, and while he also quotes outstanding and reputable resources, most of this book is about how he has gone on his own journey toward finding greater wisdom and universal truth.

The book is easy to read and I am still marveling at how readily George admits he's toyed with thoughts from the negative side -- even used dark thoughts to see if he could manipulate others. He learned a valuable lesson from such experiments (the negative energy came back to haunt him) and that's largely the reason behind his motivation for working in the light these days.

I felt this book was a very honest look at one man's journey toward self empowerment and the reader picks up a whole lot of "how to" tips along the way (such as learning how to enjoy much more vivid and significant dreams, how to astral travel, how to use your mind for the benefit of all of society).

Noory quotes many reputable sources for his findings and presents a number of compelling ideas for self empowerment. He gives examples of how he asked listeners of the Coast-to-Coast radio show to focus their intention on the same phenomena and then he documents the results of that collective though process.

If you enjoy reading biographies, you will feel this was a worthwhile book about a man who is very sensitive and and on the cutting edge of paranormal research!

5 out of 5 stars I would HIGHLY recommend !!! Perfect starter book........2007-07-18

This book has GREAT, VERY USEFUL material in it. It is not overly detailed, but very usable. It should help any Church understand the outline of what it needs to do with visitors and greeting those visitors.
Most every basic thing is there to get started. I especially liked the idea of developing "Teams" who are responsible for different things. SO, overall, it is a perfect starter book. I would love to see the writer do a Part 2 edition where he would give more details, especially details on how to read visitor's body language so that you know whether to be just cordial with them or very friendly (personable).

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2007-01-30

I am currently working through this book with our first impressions person at Parkway. For us it is helping us see the church in a new light. It really isn't brain surgeon ideas...but it allows our teams to expand their sight with the church.

Sometimes people get comfortable or can't see the church larger than it currently is...this book is a great tool to open the eyes of your teams...

Also Mark is great and doing this stuff at one of the greatest churches to date...

4 out of 5 stars "First Impressions" makes a lasting impression.......2007-01-12

First Impressions - Creating WOW Experiences in Your Church is a very easy to read book that has a significant number of useful ideas which can be used and modified for use in the church environment. Many of the suggestions are common sense but not easy to implement. Using the suggestions will put you closer to the customer - in your church. To look at practices in the church from the point of view of customer service will not please all church goers, but it makes sense when we stop to think that everything we do at church "speaks" - it sends a message. Are we sending the messages we want to send by having that pile of clutter in the corner? When we great newcomers, do we immediately sign them up to serve on a committee? - it could scare people away. This book provides many ideas and observations worth considering. I do recommend this book to you.

4 out of 5 stars A Welcome "Welcoming" Book.......2007-01-05

Very helpful and many ideas on how to make your church more friendly to guests. I recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth buying........2007-08-24

I bought this book thinking it would be as good as Practical Poser 6. It isn't. At best this is an intro to Poser possibilities. It doesn't completely walk you through anything. It hints and suggests you might be able to do some things with Poser 7 but then directs you to free websites to actually learn how to do them. If you can use Google, then you don't need this book.

5 out of 5 stars Computer libraries won't want to miss this........2007-03-12

If you have the basics down with Poser and want to move to the next level, PRACTICAL POSER 7 is for you: the computer user who already has some grounding and wants to move up. It's an updated edition of a best-seller and covers all of Poser 7's capabilities, from saving custom faces in the Face Room and using the Hair Room to add hair to clothing to texturing, creating custom morphs, UV mapping and more. With black and white screen shot examples throughout, you can't go wrong - and many a graphics teacher will want to use PRACTICAL POSER 7 as a classroom text. Computer libraries won't want to miss this.

2 out of 5 stars Practical Poser 7.......2007-02-06

Authors should use Adobe Tutorials as a model. Practical Poser 7 is a text for reading, not a tutorial for doing. It is not self contained with all materials needed to do the tutorials. It is also obviously keyed to stimulate purchases from Content Paradise. Needs considerable improvement. Not intuitive.

5 out of 5 stars Intermediate to Advanced Level Book.......2007-02-01

This book is listed as a beginning to intermediate level book. I think it's actually a little higher than that. It presumes that you have at least reviewed the Reference Manual, and hopefully worked through the Tutorial Manual. This is a tutorial style book. It takes you through a series of steps that will teach you more about the design of a person than you imagined.

After going through this book, I'm not going to say that the people making the next Harry Potter movie will jump at the chance to hire you, but I will say that you'll know a hell of a lot more about the computer creation of characters than you did when you started.

The key is to make characters look real. And here the authors point out little things like what do the fingers do in the hand that isn't reaching for something. And how do you make the torso bend with the body so that it looks real.

All in all, quite an exceptional book that I highly recommend. These people know what they are doing and know how to write about it.

The CD supplied with the book has a wealth of material including:

All the files used in the book and all of the images
Numerous Poser figures from a variety of sources
UV Mapper Software (Classic version)
Additional material from previous versions of this book

Book Description

On the day of her father's funeral, twenty-eight-year-old Clarissa Iverton discovers that he wasn't her biological father after all. Her mother disappeared fourteen years earlier, and now Clarissa is alone and adrift. The one person she feels she can trust, her fiancé, Pankaj, has just revealed a terrible and life-changing secret to her. In the cycle of a day, all the truths in Clarissa's world become myths and rumors, and she is catapulted out of the life she knew.

She finds her birth certificate, which leads her from New York to Helsinki, and then north of the Arctic Circle, to mystical Lapland, where she believes she'll meet her real father. There, under the northern lights of a sunless winter, Clarissa comes to know the Sami, the indigenous population, and seeks out a local priest, the one man who may hold the key to her origins. Along her travels she meets an elderly Sami healer named Anna Kristine, who has her own secrets, and a handsome young reindeer herder named Henrik, who accompanies Clarissa to a hotel made of ice. There she is confronted with the truth about her mother's past and finally must make a decision about how—and where—to live the rest of her life.

Joan Didion said of Vendela Vida's last book: "And Now You Can Go is so fast, so mesmerizing to read, and so accomplished that it's hard to think of it as a first novel, which it is. Vendela Vida has promise to spare." With Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name, Vida more than lives up to that promise as she gives us a remarkable protagonist who is both fierce and funny, and an unforgettable literary thriller that questions whether we can ever truly know where we've come from—and if it is possible to escape our pasts.

3 out of 5 stars Short, to the point, not a lot of substance.......2007-06-12

the reviews for this were so grand, I had to read it for myself. I agree that there is not a wasted word or phrase in this story. Every word does count. But there isn't much there. Girl's mom leaves. Girl tries to find her mom. Girl discovers things about herself. It's your basic trying to find yourself novel, with one main character, and lots of other minor characters, with no real substance into any of the others. A good short read, it took me only a few hours to get through it, but now I'm ready for something with more meat. this book is kind of like a short resting point before you jump into something bigger.

1 out of 5 stars Boring.......2007-05-21

Did not care for this novel, sorry I bought it. The best thing about it is it's title.

Protagonist Clarissa comes across as not especially bright.

4 out of 5 stars Very powerful novel.......2007-05-02

Many readers have admired Vendela's spare prose. Unlike most other readers, I was at first put off by what seemed to me like the hard, awkward prose of a non-native speaker. Nonetheless, I was quickly drawn into what I ultimately found to be a compelling and even haunting novel. I did not like the main character who I found to be at times gratuitously cruel. I did not like many of the characters. However, Vendela draws you into a world of difficult, hard events in which her characters make hard, surprising choices that achieve for them a kind of redemption and which made me question the easy, accepted choices we make in our lives. I only gave this book a 4 instead of a 5 because ultimately I was not won over by Vendela's prose although the story and even the characters were for me compelling. I could not put the book down once started and I know I will never forget it.

5 out of 5 stars Vendela Vida's clean, spartan prose makes every word count .......2007-03-24

I read an excellent review of Vendela Vida's latest novel in People Magazine and decided straight away to give it try. I was not disappointed. I fairly blitzed through this book - others here mention going cover-to-cover in one sitting. It took me two, but it's the type of work that encourages you to read 'just one more chapter' before putting the book down. And, in fact, you never do put it down. Though only 226 clean (almost spartan, in fact) pages, you won't feel cheated. Vida makes every single word count. You never have to amble through overstuffed, toss-away passages.

In the process, I learned quite a bit about Lapland and its people. Vida did some excellent first-hand info-gathering there. Her legwork really manifests itself in a knowledgeable fashion. The map - courtesy of Paul J. Pugliese - provides clarity and is a touchstone for readers throughout the text. I highly recommend this book.

3 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Talent Not Yet Fulfilled.......2007-03-10

Vendela Vida has a way with words, a veritable gift, and she bestows this sometimes snappily ironic, sometimes woe-is-me sardonic, gift upon Clarissa Iverton, the young narrator of Vida's beautifully written--but oh so consciously written--novel Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name. The book is spare, deliberate, cold. Clarissa is supposed to be (I think) impulsive, lost, and not-to-be-blamed-for-being cold. As the story unfolds there are hints that Clarissa might be able to achieve some balance between unwavering froideur and emotional dynamism. And as the story opens, and Clarissa feeds us her back-story, the odd and unexamined behavior of family and friends keeps us just enough off-balance that it's easy to read just for plot. We can accept Clarissa's genetically endowed, inalienable right to constitutional coldness because, on that point, the plot is persuasive--an egoistically sadistic, abandoning mom; an overly attentive boyfriend who has consistently lied to Clarissa about her true origins; a dad who dies without revealing that he's not her biological dad. Betrayed by every person she ought to be able to trust, Clarissa makes a credible victim. Plot-wise, that is. We automatically hand her our sympathy; it shouldn't take very much to keep it.

But accepting the character's status as entitled victim is not the same thing as feeling transported by a tale that examines human suffering, human hatred--there are some terrible people here--and human carelessness. This novel settles for the depiction of Clarissa's cramped consciousness, suggesting that the cramping is the result of other people's lies and failures; it does not aim to carry us beyond the trap. A gut-level curiosity compels Clarissa to find her biological father, but the struggle over whether or not to forgive anyone-- her dead step dad, her misguided boyfriend, even herself--never even arises in the morally closed landscape of Vida's tale. With slightly more editorial care, Vida could have nailed an unreliable narration--she could have made Clarissa an obviously self-serving fabulist--but, as it stands now, the young woman seems sardonic and vain, modestly smug and pleased over her fine prose, but never emotionally dynamic, troubling, or vulnerable enough to demand the reader's ongoing engagement. Geography is what makes her story pop open. If Clarissa hadn't gone someplace as intriguing as Lapland, I never would have followed.

By hermetically sealing Clarissa's story inside her single consciousness, much of the potentially fabulous material provided by that trip to Finnish Lapland remains unrealized, unexamined. A sizeable polyglot population appears within the pages of this very short novel--and there's lots of travel--but because Clarissa never ventures outside her own self-centered head, we're stuck inside it too. The Other lies forever outside our mutual range. I'm fully aware that this may be exactly the plight that Vida is trying to convey through her tale--that a trauma at the source of a person's origins may prove to be so damaging that such a person might never regain sufficient trust to crawl out of her own brain again. She may become unattractive, vain, self-centered, and boring no matter what happens in her life. And, yes, when she does sit down to tell her story, maybe all she can spin is a perfectly modulated, prettified tale with a soupcon of hipster-ish ennui thrown in. Maybe that's credible, but Vendela Vida's obvious talent could accomplish much greater things. A wonderfully written, ultimately disappointing venture.

Book Description

Sequel to the bestselling Boy Meets Grill, Boy Gets Grill marks Bobby Flay's return to the fire with his first grilling book in five years.

The connection between Flay and fire began when, as a kid growing up in New York City, Bobby learned to grill during trips to the Jersey Shore. As a young chef starting out, he always wanted to work the grill station, and when he opened his first restaurant in 1991, he called it Mesa Grill. The word grill was firmly hooked to his name. And then, the Food Network called.

Like his highly rated prime-time grilling show, Boy Gets Grill is set on a rooftop in Queens overlooking the Manhattan skyline and celebrates the explosive flavors of his hometown's diverse neighborhoods. This is Bobby Flay's New York, and everywhere he goes, there is great grilling: from Chinatown to Astoria, Queens (Greek food); Arthur Avenue in the Bronx (for old-style Italian); and lower Lexington Avenue (better known as Curry Hill, for Indian); and the flavors go on and on.

The question isn't "Can I grill this?" but "Is there a reason not to grill this?" Usually the answer is "Go ahead and try it!" Throughout, Bobby gets more and more out of the grill, making life easier and encouraging everyone to think big, have fun, and get their hands dirty.

The grill is no longer for weekends only. The recipes in Boy Gets Grill are the quickest and easiest that Bobby has ever created, making the grill a perfect vehicle for busy weeknight meals. Flavors are (pleasantly) challenging. For the simplest of suppers, try Grilled Quesadillas with Sliced Steak, Blue Cheese, and Watercress; Grilled Shrimp with Triple Lemon Butter; Grilled Tuna with Red Chile, Allspice, and Orange Glaze; or a Pressed Cuban-Style Burger.

Boy Gets Grill is also full of great ideas for entertaining and enjoying the company of family and friends. In the "Big Parties" section, Bobby takes hosts and hostesses through every step of preparation for a Fish Taco Party, Burger Bar, and a Skewer Party (perfect for backyard cocktail parties where one hand stays free to hold a glass). There are even recipes for brunch on the grill.

The book includes cool drinks to sip while the fire gets hot, as well as appetizers, salads, simple desserts, and, of course, the meats, fish, and poultry that everyone loves to grill. Bobby also gives tips on what equipment you need to grill (and more important, what you don't); six simple (and decidedly low-tech) steps to test for doneness; how to gauge how hot your fire is; and Bobby's Guide to Steak.

4 out of 5 stars pretty good grilling cookbook.......2007-07-31

I'm always searching for more grilling ideas, and this book was a good addition to my library. Most ingredients could be obtained locally. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Used to hate it 'til I ate it........2007-05-13

This cookbook converted me to Bobby Flay fanhood.

5 out of 5 stars A great book for the grilling season ahead!.......2007-03-20

Reading this book had definitely given me more confidence to grille and be daring.

1 out of 5 stars Frustrated by the photos (and lack thereof).......2007-02-19

I cannot stand these celebrity chefs that fill their cookbooks with photos of themselves and not the food! Pictures of the actual finished product is what inspires me to cook - not a hundred black and white photos of Bobby Flay in the grocery store, at the deli, picking veggies, smelling spices, paying for groceries, eating with chopsticks, walking down the street... Give me a break! There are a handful of colored photos of actual recipes - lazily placed in the middle of the book (you end up with a picture of grilled pineapple with butter-rum glaze next to a recipe for sea scallop salad...), but in my opinion, it doesn't make up for the countless worthless photos of Mr. Ego-Maniac.

5 out of 5 stars Boy gets Great Cookbook.......2007-02-13

I love to cook, I really love to grill and I really, really love this Bobby Flay cookbook. I was of course familiar with BF from The Food Network and figured that any guy who knows the joys of both charcoal and gas grills and the importance of enjoying a fine drink (read: Good Beer) while working said grills must be a hell of a guy. Well, unlike most things I bet my wife, I got this one right.

Of all of the cookbooks that I have owned...especially books involving the grill...this book is the only one that has actually inspired me to experiment. I think that is because it is the exact same way that Bobby wrote the book...he experimented and he talks about the themes and ideas he used while writing. The recipes are often variations on a theme...or themes...and the results are delicious.

One of the greatest tips I took away from this book was the use of chipotle puree. It is an easy, bold spicy addition to almost any recipe in the need of a "pick me up". As always, Bobby's concentration on grilling great beef shows here. Highlights include the Rib-Eye with the Red Wine-Honey Mustard Vinaigrette and Fresh Thyme and the Steak Salad with Watercress, Blue Cheese, and Cherry Tomato-Hot Sauce Dressing. If those two do not jump out at you, you shouldn't be grilling!

I raise my glass...and my tongs...to Bobby. This simple book not only educated me on cooking, but challenged me as well. My only complaint...more pictures!

5 out of 5 stars Fun and light.......2006-02-25

The book had a nice pace, and really fun to read when you come home after stressfull day. Loved the characters, and how all three stories entwine. Ms. Foster did a great job.

3 out of 5 stars Starts with a bang, ends with a whimper..........2006-02-23

I must admit, I'm a sucker for trilogies.... it's always nice to see continuity with characters and for them to be further developed than in just one story. Although "Little Miss Innocent?" is really good, by the time you get to "Messing Around with Max" you're left wondering why your wasting your time.

4 out of 5 stars Cute stories.......2005-11-02

The characterizations overlapped a little, but the stories were cute and ended happily. It was a nice rainy day read.

5 out of 5 stars Three Terrific Full Length ReIssues!!!.......2005-09-29

This anthology is a reissue of a trilogy that is a personal favorite. It fast became a recommended read because of the close knit and truly convincing bond between siblings that Ms. Foster presents.

To begin with, you get a taste of the oldest and most mature of the three, Daniel Sawyers in, "Little Miss Innocent?". Daniel isn't real fond of Lace McGee. The way he figures it, she is the cause of his sister's sudden change from youthful tomboy to sexy femme fatale--not a terribly comforting persona for a big brother to have to swiftly become accustomed. Lace is much too brazen and entirely too liberal. However, when she is bitten in the derriere by one of her neighbor's dogs and ends up in the emergency room needing stitches, the physician in him takes a backseat to the hot-blooded man in him. For the first time in all his years, Daniel feels his professional detachment slip a few notches. And that rankles.

Still, being the upstanding guy that he is, Daniel not only stitches up Lace's bottom, but insists on driving her home as well. After all, she is his sister's friend and that makes her practically family. Of course, he refuses to admit that his helping Lace has anything to do with his attraction to her. Mainly because he's already decided not to act on his lusty feelings. So she was sexy. Alluring. And, absolutely every man's dream come to life. She was still all wrong for him. He didn't approve of her profession as Sex Therapist, nor did he care one wit for her forward and outspoken attitude. She talks entirely too candidly, and seems to not have a single modest bone in her lovely body.

But it's not long before Daniel finds himself offering to not only drive Lace home but to stay the night. Things get off track in a hurry and Daniel learns a few things about the blonde beauty he's tried so hard to avoid. For one, Lace McGee isn't the woman he thought she was. In fact, she's much, much more. And poor, struggling Daniel discovers that when he loosens up just the slightest bit, falling in love can be an exhilarating and passionate endeavor indeed!

*******************

Second in this Trio of full-length love stories is, "Annie Get Your Guy". This one turned out to be my own personal favorite. Annie is so much like most of us women: intelligent, talented, and strong, but rather insecure underneath it all. I related to her story, as I think most women will, because of her sweetly tenacious attitude towards Guy Donovan. If you've ever been in love with a man who has never seen you as that of the female gender, then Annie will strike a cord. If you've ever felt desperate to attract a man's attention, even at the cost of your own pride, then Annie will certainly make you smile.

Annie Sawyers is in a struggle with her heart. She is wildly, passionately in love with Guy Donovan and has been ever since she began blossoming into a woman. He, however, sees her as nothing more than a surrogate kid sister. She is so tired of being invisible to the only man that has ever made her blood race and her body burn just by looking at him. And when he announces that he's going to propose to a woman that Annie is just positive he couldn't possibly love, she decides it's high time to get serious with her plans of seducing Guy.

What does a woman do when she wants to prove to a man that she can light his fire and curl his toes? She consults her sex therapist best friend for tips! With Lace McGee's help, Annie locates nearly every book on sex and intimacy that was ever written and starts her education.

Unfortunately, when she relates to Guy that she's trying to attract a man's attention Guy goes ballistic-not realizing that the man is him. Annie sees this as another of his brotherly moments and steps up her seduction attempts by making a few provocative suggestions to the handsome devil. Guy, fearing he's lost his mind for thinking lascivious thoughts about his best friend's sister, swiftly speeds away from Annie and out of temptations reach all together. As a result of his hasty retreat, Guy ends up in a very nasty car accident that lands him in the hospital, banged up from head to toe and high as a kite on pain medication.

Thankfully, Annie comes to his rescue by flitting him off to the family's secluded cabin, where he can both recover in peace and think twice about his silly notions of marriage. Annie, being the sneaky and rather desperate woman that she is, uses this as an opportunity to have Guy all to herself. A cabin out in the woods, no phones, no communication with the outside world. Just her, Guy, a warm fire, and a comfy bed. Oh yeah, baby!

When Guy finally comes to his senses and realizes where he is, he tries, once more, to retreat. Really he does! But, the sweetly innocent Annie, makes it pretty darned difficult when she asks him to please help her become seductive and alluring. In his mind he knows that if any man didn't already see Annie for the desirable woman that she is then he must be an idiot, thus not worthy of Annie anyway. But, he was loathe to let Annie practice her skills on any other man. The very thought makes him sick to his stomach. So, being the decent fellow, Guy gives in and helps Annie. He denies even to himself that it might have anything to do with how hot he is for her. Good lord, he nearly killed himself when he drove head long into a semi truck, because he was thinking of her smooth tight body instead of the road, as he should have been.

Guy's plans are shot when he gets a little too into `helping' Annie and realizes there's no way on God's green earth that she will ever touch another man the way she's touched him.

Oh my, I just love it when the Hero struggles, kicks and screams against the love he feels and then once he comes to terms with it, he doesn't just embrace it, he hugs it close and never lets it go. Guy is the perfect Hero to me because he comes so close to making a huge mistake, but luckily for him he comes to his senses just in the knick of time.

*************************

Last of these three breathtaking stories is the nomadic Max Sawyers in, "Messing Around With Max". Like most middle children, Max is totally misunderstood. Oh sure he's every bit the Lothario his reputation boasts. His sexual prowess has never once been questioned.

Then again, that's before he had decided to swear off casual sex in favor of finding a bride. You see, Max needs a stable home environment for his fat and scruffy dog, Cleo. The poor thing deserves it after all she's gone through.

Then Maddie Montgomery lands at his feet, literally. She sorely tests his resolve. He tries to keep her at arm's length once she admits to not wanting anything to do with marriage, but he's only human for crying out loud!

Maddie wishes to only gain a little sexual experience; to notch her bedpost. Her ex-fiance had hurt her badly when she caught him with another woman and now she's got Max in her apartment and all to herself. Only one problem, he isn't exactly leaping at the chance to have sex with her. He explains-very clearly-that for him, another relationship based solely on sex is not what he's after. So, Maddie decides to hit below the belt. She tells him that she doesn't believe that he's as good in bed as she's heard. Max being 100% male sets out to prove just how good he can be.

Max can't quite seem to get enough of the intriguing woman and he swiftly comes to the conclusion that she's `the one'. Now he just needs to show her that he has more to offer than a good time in the sack.

These two were sweet and hilarious together. Max will surprise you with the depth of his character, and his gentle way with Cleo, his dog, will have you sighing. My favorite scene is when Maddie, who works at a woman's shelter, gets Max to come and talk to the `girls' about satisfying alternatives to sex. What a great scene!

**This story marks a delightful ending to a fabulous trio of stories...**

5 out of 5 stars a must have for every Lori Foster fan.......2005-09-28

Dr. Daniel Sawyers is tired and ready to go home when the unthinkable happens; Lace McGee walks into his emergency room . . . injured. She drives him crazy with her sexually open attitude, and the way she seems to have turned his baby sister from a tomboy into a femme fetal. His instincts as a doctor demand that he care for her injury and his instincts as a man demand that he not let any other doctor, or any other man, touch her. Lace is mortified to have Daniel be the one to take care of her injury and then terrified when he offers to take her home. She has been careful to foster Daniel's misconceptions about her, but her home reveals her true self and allowing Daniel to see that would make her too vulnerable to him. Daniel and Lace are such opposites it was very amusing to watch as they each got to know the "real" person. LITTLE MISS INNOCENT is a textbook case of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Annie Sawyers has been in love with her brother's best friend Guy Donovan since she was a teen, but Guy only sees her as a tomboy and the pesky little sister; that is about to change. Annie is changing her image and Guy will finally notice her as a woman. His announcement that he plans to ask another woman to marry him throws her for a loop and she is afraid that she will lose him before she gets a chance to implement her plan. Fate intervenes and offers Annie the perfect opportunity to get his attention and she intends to do just that. ANNIE, GET YOUR GUY is sweet and laugh-out-loud-funny. There were times that Annie threw Guy for so much of a loop that I ALMOST felt sorry for him.

After her engagement ends in disaster and humiliation, Maddie Montgomery is looking for someone to help her put notches in her bedpost. Ladies man, Max Sawyers is looking for someone to settle down and help him raise Cleo, his dog. Maddie thinks that Max is perfect she just has to talk him into a FLING. Max thinks that Maddie is perfect he just has to talk her into a COMMITMENT. How can you not love a man who is sweet, sexy and loves his dog? MESSING AROUND WITH MAX is the type of story that can be read again and again and never lose its charm.

I absolutely love connecting stories and NOBODY does them better than Lori Foster. The stories of these three siblings were previously released as category titles and as they are all on the very hard to find list, and some of Ms. Foster's earliest work, it is a real treat to have them all together in one book.

3 out of 5 stars hoping for more!.......2006-03-25

I recently bought this and its companion, "Light His Fire : How to Keep Your Man Passionately and Hopelessly in Love With you".

The advice in this one made, me feel pretty good- brilliant in fact. I had thought of most of the ideas, but they never really worked for my husband. He doesn't seem that impressed by having cookies sent to him at work. It is something a woman would like to have done for her, but the problem is men and women aren't the same. That is why we would buy a book like this- right?

The advice in its companion made for men who want to please their women has started a few conversations. My husband has enjoyed heckling it, and that has caused a few hurt feelings. It is just close enough to the truth in many ways that I feel heckled too, but not close enough to the truth to help. This reminds me of one of those articles written with the help of gay men to help women understand the men they love. It seems like a good idea, but it doesn't work.

In conclusion- If you are a man who wants to get even more confused by women, buy "How to Keep Your Man Passionately and Hopelessly in Love With You". If you are a woman with no creativity, buy, "Light His Fire: How to Keep Your Man Passionately and Hopelessly in Love With you". Otherwise, try something else. If you find something that really works, please let me know!

1 out of 5 stars Not for serious marital problems!.......2006-01-07

The book, I'm sure, is well-intentioned, but overly simplistic and one-sided. On her website, Dr Kreidman even recommends her work as a replacement for marriage counseling for seriously troubled marriages. I have to whole-heartedly disagree, this is a dangerous notion. I purchased both the "his fire" and "her fire" books after reading all the wonderful reviews here, and the promises made on the author's website. I am unbelievably disappointed. As a woman who was just told by her husband that he wants an open marriage and is not attracted to me anylonger because I'm not in my early twenties anymore, I'm having trouble with the concept that I'm the one who should stroke his ego, plan sex-adventures, and never judge him, in order to win his love. That's pretty much the last thing I want to do. The author gives absolutely no validation to the woman's point of view, feelings, etc, she only talks about how the woman should adjust to the man's needs. Her suggestions might work to bring excitement into an otherwise dull, but functioning relationship, but when there is true heartbreak and years of anger and frustration involved, her suggestion to dress up like a hotel maid in order to turn on the husband is less than helpful. Good luck to everyone else!

5 out of 5 stars A Real Eye Opener.......2005-11-23

This is my wife's opion on the book,"In my opinion the book was a real eye opener for me. I got to see everything in my relationship that was wrong but in a different perspective. Therefore I am now able to take a different approach toward certain things that I use to do. This book is so helpful and it has really made me look at my relationship in a whole new way. It has helped me a great deal with communicating to my spouse. I have found new and exciting ways to keep him happy and in love with me for a long time. Now I just need him to come home :) This was a great book and for me, even though I am not a reader I could not stop reading this one!! I was hoping there would be another edition out soon!!!!"

5 out of 5 stars Don't just read it: Do what she says.......2005-09-23

This book is very practically laid out. She speaks in a simplistic language and is quite matter-of-fact. Her ideas and suggestions are wonderfully insightful. When you read it you will want to practice what she tells you. Do it. I wouldn't call this book a guide to manipulate your man, but it is a way to truly make him fall head over heels in love with you all over again and in turn you'll do the same. You'll want to read it over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2005-08-21

I like to read books...and have read a lot of them. When a therapist's wife suggested these books I got them immediately. Wow is all I can say! These books teach you exactly what to do and don't just give theories. I loved it! It was really fun to read, I went back and re-read it when I was done I loved it so much. I can't think of a better book to make a marriage last. My marriage has changed for the better, I have not felt this way about my husband ever! He is a changed man and all because I changed and did what the book said. I am forever grateful for Ellen!

1 out of 5 stars Waste of money.......2007-09-20

This crossword book is WAY overpriced. I only bought it to meet the free shipping purchase amount on another item. I really consider it packing material.

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun!.......2007-05-28

Since I am a very enthusiastic crossword puzzler and since I live in an area of the world where they are unavailable, it isn't always easy trying to find something you like on-line. The good news is that the N.Y. Times Coffee Break book is EXACTLY what it says it is......I love it! It is easy but not
"brain-less" easy. Yes, the puzzles can be done in a coffee break! I only wish there were more puzzles in the book! I know I will finish the book too quickly. Buy and enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Light and Easy Puzzles.......2007-01-04

I find crosswords a way to relax and the Light and Easy series are just that. Not too hard, but engaging enough to keep me interested. The size of the puzzles makes it easy to finish one relatively quickly. The book size is convenient for carrying around. The expert crossword addict may find these too easy, but for the rest of us the Light and Easy series are fun. Great airplane/airport activity.

4 out of 5 stars easy crosswords.......2006-03-22

Well, pretty easy but not THAT easy. Finishing one on a coffee break is probably not something I could always do. They are fun and in a good format.

5 out of 5 stars A great book!.......2005-12-05

The thing about crossword puzzles is that even hard-core fans sometimes like to do an easy and fun puzzle. These ones are great. An excellent puzzler should be able to complete them in 10-15 minutes or less, a decent puzzler should easily have them done in under 20 minutes. The title is no joke: these really are great puzzles for your coffee break. This little book makes a great stocking stuffer!

5 out of 5 stars Best with data and best to read.......2006-02-28

After years of reading, and turning wrenches I think this is the best so far.
Not only for readability (is this English?) but also specifications.
This book tells you When to pull the engine and Why.
Then tons of specific data will be given and even more important how and
where to measure!!
If you ever go in this kind of stuff, rebuilding your engine, this book is a good buy.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2006-01-10

4 out of 5 stars Good guide to rebuilding your stock small block.......1999-09-16

If you are rebuilding your chevy motor in stock form, this book is for you. If you plan on modifying your motor to any extent, it is too outdated and its suggestions for machining and assembly do not apply.

Written from this guys personal experiences. Could use more details/options for the rebuilder and less of his personal gabbing. Otherwise, it's a great book to start with.
