I Did because I thought I could...........2006-04-15
I read this book in the spring of 1990. It saved my life. At the time I was a junkie, in jail, and facing charges of armed robbery. I had been to rehabs, NA, AA, church, you name it. Nothing worked. What this book did was to convince me that I really could take control of my life and become the person that I always wanted to be. I actually quit smoking half way through the book to prove to myself that I could. I got out of prison in the Summer of 1994. I have been drug, alcohol, and cigarette free ever since I read the book. Dr. Peale saved my life. Today, I have a wonderful family, a thriving business, and I am a respected member of my community. I couldn't have done it if Dr. Peale hadn't convinced me that I could. I wish that I could have thanked him personally, but he has passed on. The best way to pay my respects is to pass on my experience.
Read the book and discover the power within to become everything that you ever wanted.
Best of luck,
Mark Owens
GREAT REVIEW OF POSITIVE THINKING PRINCIPLES.......2006-02-22
Dr. Peale's book "You Can If You Think You Can" is a brillent reminder for us in being consciously aware of what thinking patterns we focus on during our waking hours. This book is recommeded for anyone who may be going through difficult times and needs some place to start to get back on track. It is also a brush up on our thought process for the rest of us.
Excellent Book!.......2005-04-15
My life has been greatly enriched by the legacy of Dr. Peale! Encouragement comes about from reading how other people have successfully faced their challenges and with God's help overcome them. In his collection, Dr. Peale provides such examples. His material is always relevant as the principles he teaches are timeless.
Take the story of Dwight D. Eisenhower. He says his mother was the most influential person in his life and one of the things she taught him that stayed with him was to take the had you're dealt in life and work with it. By doing that things will turn out right. I see people who have come completely unglued because things didn't go their way. They used their energy up fussing over matters that would not change. If Eisenhower had done that we may have never known his name.

Ultimate book on creating beautiful wreaths for your home.......2002-04-03
This is a wonderful book! It has been in my collection for several years now and I have used it a countless number of times for inspiration and as a valuable reference guide in creating my own floral designs.
Whether you are a novice or have been making floral crafts for years, this is the ultimate book on creating beautiful wreaths for your home. It outlines everything you need to know to get started: identifying and explaining in detail the different types of tools, supplies and floral materials commonly used in floral crafting, as well as providing step-by-step instructions for basic floral techniques and bow making. Once you get a feel for the basics, there are 94 beautifully illustrated projects to create or to be inspired by, including some neat alternatives to the basic wreath. I highly recommend this book.
Wreaths pictured are very unattractive........1999-10-27
I was very disappointed in the wreaths that the author was going to help me make, because as many as there were (a lot) I found them overloaded with decorations, unbalanced and nothing I would make to give or sell. The step by step "recipes" for each wreath did have some helpful tips for the novice.
This book is creative and colorful........1999-09-17
How To Do Wreaths gives you good ideas. And the easy to follow step by step instructions are very helpful. Also included are the tools needed to get yourself atarted. Overall a very useful book.

Book Description
Most people set out unequipped to achieve. Just as there are certain laws that govern nature, there are laws that govern performance and achievement. Unfortunately, people are either unaware of them, and therefore do not align themselves accordingly, or they simply are not applying them. As a result, many people chase after goals, but find that the results they desire constantly elude them.
If you want to be someone, achieve something, or get somewhere in life, you must understand the governing laws that turn dreams into reality. Over the last few hundred years of recorded history, common denominators that lead to personal success have consistently surfaced. TJ has gathered these distinctions into a single book to share with you.
The pages of this book are filled with moving stories and examples of success and failure that will inspire all who read them. TJ shows you what habits must be formed and what steps must be taken to achieve any goal you set. Simple and concise, If You Think You Can! is the source that will help you achieve whatever you want.

Live Free or Die Hard.......2007-08-03
I admit that I have never read TJ's book. However, I went to a seminar that TJ put on and it was horrible. It was so bad that I had to do something so I went to Amazon to complain about his book. Basically TJ just told us how smart he was, how rich he was, and how he reads one book a week. WOW!!!!!! Then, for some unknown reason, TJ had to brag about how he was writing a sequel to "The Swiss Family Robinson" and that no one had ever written a sequel to that movie. Hey TJ, they already made a sequel you moron. TJ is one of those people that likes to hear himself talk, but he never says anything important. To sum everything up TJs seminar was pointless and dumb so I can only assume his book is a worthless piece of crap. But remember live free or die hard.
Mastering the Fundamentals.......2006-04-28
What do successful athletes, entrepreneurs, investors, parents, and people from all walks of life have in common? They have mastered the fundamentals. Sure, there are distinctions and nuances of performance which can give you the edge, but it always comes back to the basics. In basketball, you need to practice free-throws every day. In sales you need to pick up the phone and make calls or get in front of potential customers - every day. Professional musicians practice their scales and fingerings - daily. Why? Because mastering these basics is what keeps them on top of their game.
TJ's book is an excellent collection of classic stories for and from high achievers. He shares these stories as well as some of his own to illustrate the 13 principles.
Many of these stories I was familiar with. However it had been years since I had read them, and I found it newly inspiring to come across them again. I also found stories that I had not heard before, which were equally inspiring.
There is a zen philosophy which talks about the "Beginners Mind." Always being new in the moment. When we have the mindset of "I already know this" or "I've heard this before" we can lose the spark that is present when we approach something as new.
It is easy in life to forget to be new in the moment. We get caught up with work, families, and responsibilites. We find ourselves in a rut. As a peak performance coach, I'm aware that many times what people really need is to be reminded of what they are capable of doing. T.J's book does just that. He reminds us of what is possible.
I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in success and achievement. If you know the importance of being new in the moment and of mastering the fundamentals, you will find the value in this book and take it into your own life.
Eloquent, Fun, A Solid Reminder of the Fundamentals.......2006-02-28
TJ's book is a poignant reminder that success in life can be predicted and planned regardless of the set back, road block or personal circumstances. He does a really nice job of sharing experience (both his own personal experiences, as well as the experiences of others) when illustrating the application of his 13 laws.
The book is a quick read, enjoyable, elequent and one that can positively impact the lives of all ages or circumstance. His writings remind me that success is no respector of persons and that the principles that govern success can be applied by all.
I appreciate his no-nonsense, entertaining way of bringing me back to the basics. I have requested that my staff read his book and brainstorm ways we can overcome common challenges in our professional arena.
Merely a compilation of other people's thoughts.......2006-02-21
The book is well written and very easy to read, that much is true. The thirteen "laws" that T.J. Hoisington presents are good reminders of things that we've seen and read before, but nothing new. I was disappointed in the complete lack of originality in this book.
You can scarcely read one page of this book without running across a quote or an idea taken from somebody else be it Henry Ford, Napoleon Hill, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Iacocca, Charles "Tremendous" Jones (who, by the way, endorsed the book), Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein . . . even Dr. Phil! I would hate to see the list of references that TJ used. It's almost like a greatest hits of other people's ideas.
There is absolutely nothing wrong, of course, with using other people's ideas, especially when you credit them as your sources. However, if I'm going to pay $20 for a book, I want something new. TJ doesn't even offer any opinions, doesn't take a stand on anything in this book. I gave this book one star because I learned nothing from reading it. Was it easy to read? Yes. Were the stories inspiring? Many of them were. Did I get a few chuckles out of it? You bet. But, did I grow by reading it? Do I know something today that I didn't know yesterday? No and no.
Sorry, TJ, you can obviously write, but give me something to think about, something to spark discussion, and I'll pick it up and read what you have to say.
You can't argue the credibility of the endorsers.......2006-02-21
What a magnificant book. Wow! A practicle exciting application of the success principles that would motivate anyone that has anything to offer life. Successful or unsuccessful, a must read if you're looking for a new presentation of these irrefutable laws. Two thumbs way up.

A great book to add to your floral crafting collection.......2002-04-04
This is another wonderful floral craft publication from Leisure Arts. To avoid repetitition I invite you to view my reviews of "How to Arrange Dried Florals If You Think You Can't" and "How to Do Wreaths If You Think You Can't" as both of these books follow the same format as this one. The only reason I have not rated this book as well as the others is that I prefer the finished look that only high quality "silks" can achieve and not all projects in this book achieve this look. Still, there are nearly 90 projects for your review and the vast majority of them deserve credit.

The ultimate book on how to arrange dried florals.......2002-04-03
This is a wonderful book! If you only want one book on dried floral arranging this is the one to have. Whether you are just starting out or have been doing floral crafts for years, this book offers plenty of projects (over 90) to create or to be inspired by and in typical Leisure Arts fashion, each project is beautifully illustrated with colored photographs of both the projects and the step-by-step instructions.
Some good ideas, over-done and off balance........1999-10-27
There are some good project-ideas in this book but for me the results are unattractive, overloaded with flowers and accents and not balanced. I would not want to make very many of these as shown although there are helpful tips on "how to" that I can use. I was disappointed.
Worth having on the shelf!.......1999-06-12
Even if you are familiar with drieds, this book stimulates your imagination with new ideas. Many ranges of ideas--great for making wreaths and other gift items for those whose taste differs from yours. Can also be used like a "cookbook" with great results.
A great guide book for both the beginners and the experts.......1998-10-25
It has everything you need to know to start your dried floral arrangement projects. It features different types of projects you can do such as wreaths, bouquets, wall decors, accents, holiday items. Highly recommended.
The best book for dried florals I have ever owned.......1998-10-11
This book is great for anyone. It is discriptive and full of great pictures. It has all kinds of different arrangements for the holidays as well as the different seasons. I highly recommend it.
