THIS book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is for those who have, so far, found neither the time, the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who want results and who are willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis for action, without going into all the processes by which those conclusions were reached. It is expected that the reader will take the fundamental statements upon faith, just as he would take statements concerning a law of electrical action if they were promulgated by a Marconi or an Edison; and, taking the statements upon faith, that he will prove their truth by acting upon them without fear or hesitation. Every man or woman who does this will certainly get rich; for the science herein applied is an exact science, and failure is impossible. For the benefit, however, of those who wish to investigate philosophical theories and so secure a logical basis for faith, I will here cite certain authorities. The monistic theory of the universe the theory that One is All, and that All is One; That one Substance manifests itself as the seeming many elements of the material world -is of Hindu origin, and has been gradually winning its way into the thought of the western world for two hundred years. It is the foundation of all the Oriental philosophies, and of those of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibnitz, Schopenhauer, Hegel, and Emerson. The reader who would dig to the philosophical foundations of this is advised to read Hegel and Emerson for himself. In writing this book I have sacrificed all other considerations to plainness and simplicity of style, so that all might understand. The plan of action laid down therein was deduced from the conclusions of philosophy; it has been thoroughly tested, and bears the supreme test of practical experiment; it works. If you wish to know how the conclusions were arrived at, read the writings of the authors mentioned above; and if you wish to reap the fruits of their philosophies in actual practice, read this book and do exactly as it tells you to do.

I have been involved in studying material of the general type contained in this book since the mid 1960's, and I've read a lot.Of them all this is absolutely the greatest book because it spells things out clearly and tells you exactly what to do to get t6he results you want in your life. I am recommending it to everyone and buying copies for loved ones. Buy the book and work with it. It could easily be the best purchase you ever make.

This trio of books - really more like long essays is a quick read. It is very interesting to see the beginnings of the current "Secret" craze in this early 1900's work. Some of the examples are antiquated due to the period during which it was written, but the basic tenets are very much in line with current abundance and prosperity works I have read. Editors notes help to explain some of the prevalent thinking at the time the books were written.

I have long experienced aspects of this teaching without ever realizing it. When you finally get into the whys and hows of this idea, you too should see very clearly what I am suggesting.
I particularly like the references to Christ and his teachings. It may seem contrary at first, stick to it. Jesus told us we could do these things if we only had the slightest bit of faith.

Now there are no more excuses to getting rich as it is all here in black and white. I have seen some negative reviews here about this book, But I have to believe those writing negatively on it have not grasped the positive simplicity of what Mr. Wattles is trying to convey. Yes, maybe it is 100 years old, but I would have to say if the book was as irrelevant as some people are claiming that it would no longer even be in print. I also did not see as some others did, that all you have to do is visualize wealth and it will automatically come to you. No, if it were that easy we would all have tons of cash on hand. Visualization is a very important part of the puzzle, according to Wattles, but you cannot just sit around expecting your bank account to grow. I believe he stresses the fact that you need to go out and do the footwork once you have visualized the desired result. Your intention on getting rich will set the universe in motion to bring the right people and circumstances to your door, but if you are not there to open the door and meet the universe halfway, then you will not get anything, let alone rich. I believe this book is as vital and timely now as when it was first published.

I do believe most of us have the ability to get rich if we want to (with dedication and work) BUT The Secret and The Science of Getting rich is a bit sketchy. At first I loved it I thought it was wonderful and did everything to a T. I had positive results, but they use techniques that will work: Visualize your goal; Of course if you put focus in your goal it will benefit you. BUT TO SAY THERES THIS STUFF FLOATING AROUND THATS MANIPULATED BY OUR THOUGHTS???
It's nice to believe we can just sit around and visualize and have everything we want these aren't book's there entertainment! I do believe human potential is unlimited BUT there more to it then just believing.

I have been reading similar books (including the secret), but as the little red start sticker says on the book "Secret beyond the secret" is true.
I truly understood what Mr. Wattles talks about and this is the first time I really thought of it and said "AHA" thats how it works!

Though the author was not rich in the traditional sense, He does present an interesting view of what it is to be rich. The book is worth reading.

Great book if you are interested in the inspiration behind The Secret. To think that the author wrote the book in 1910 just goes to show that The Secret isn't really a Secret at all but rather a philosophy which has been part of human consciousness for a very long time. Sadly for Wallace D. Wattles he died very soon after writing the book, so I gather it didn't work for him!

A good read and absolutely right on!.......2007-05-27
Wattles died in 1911, yet he writes about space travel, electric cars, energy from wind and sun,and microwave technology. Hygenic health practices and organic farming are also mentioned. I want to know more about this guy! He writes with a good sense of humor and his ideas work. Now I know what I was doing wrong and the changes he suggests made the difference--my bank account is growing and I'm buying a vacation home!

Wattles understood what nearly all of the self-made wealthies understood in his time: You get what you focus on. He does a good job of laying out a frame for a wealth mindset although some of the language is a little strange until you get through the entire book. My knowledge of the writings of other authors helped me sort out what Wattles presents here. This is a good place to get a concise concept of the moving parts of a wealth mindset, but you may need to read elsewhere to flesh out the ideas more fully. Recommended!
Excellent Presentation of Prosperity Principles.......2007-03-04
I was given this book many years ago but I never read it. Then one day I noticed a book I had written turned up on The Science of Getting Rich site as recommended reading. I visited the site and I was intrigued with this Wattles fellow so I pulled his little book off my shelf.
I was perfectly astounded at the clarity and practicality of this man's presentation of prosperity principles. I don't think anyone has said it any better than Wallace Wattles. The language is a bit archaic, so I downloaded the book (there are many floating around out there) to update it for my own use. What a great experience this has been.
I fully believe that anyone who grasps and practices the simple principles outlined in this book can accomplish anything they put their heart into.
There are hundreds of how-to prosperity books out there, but this pristine presentation of principles has to be rated among the very best.

Don't be fooled, this book is difficult to read and comprehend. However, for those willing to tread the waters of early 1900s writing styles, the message in this book is wonderful and can potentially change your life.
If you are interested in the money aspect of the law of attraction, you may also want to read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill and "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth" by Phillip Collinsworth.

The "Thinking Stuff" which Wallace Wattles declares, permeates the universe really caught my attention. The noted theologian, Emanuel Swedenborg refers to this "Thinking Stuff" as the Divine Wisdom in the book Divine Love and Wisdom, (published in Amsterdam in 1763).
I agree with the premise of Wattles book and as I reflect upon my life I can see where the Lord has indeed blessed me in ways I had desired.
Doesn't Work.......2005-09-16
Wattles' philosopy is New Thought, popular at the turn of the 19th century. It is really just wishful thinking or magical thinking. It doesn't work. Just because you think something doesn't make it come true, and you should be glad, because some people think very unpleasant things. You aren't Harry Potter, and magical thinking won't get you what you want in life. As for Monism or the theory that God is in everything, that would mean that God also exists in evil things, which would mean that God is not all good, so Monism cannot be true. This is just an early self-help book that seeks to empower people who feel powerless by telling them they can get anything they want if they just think about it hard enough and long enough. It's a waste of your time. Wattles wrote the same thing about health, and he died at about age 51. If he had lived to be 100 in good health and been a multimillionaire himself, he theories would be more credible. In fact, one of the people Wattles criticized as being "competitive", John D. Rockefeller, did live to be 98 and was a multmillionaire, so who are you going to believe?

Surprisingly, this book has many spelling errors and grammatical errors within its pages. I am shocked that an editor/publisher did not catch these.

Two Miracles For The Price of One.......2007-08-23
Anyone who has heard about The Secret is bound to ask, "how does this law of attraction really work?" While I truly enjoyed Rhonda's ability to re-market this ancient science for the post millenium audience, I can see why a lot of people are skeptical. If you really want to know the ontology or scientific methadology behind this law, you must get these two books. Rumor has it that the line in the movie " my daughter gave me these books...I had no idea they would change my life" (something to that effect)----the books she is refering to in the movie are these two books.
Whether you are a fan of the secret or a doubter---these two authors are worth reading.

I believe that this book is a great review for students who understand both Haanel and Wattles. The aphorisms and parables will trigger a resonance if you already undersatnd and appreciate their teachings.
If you don't, this book will seem like random babbling. So if you're a begginer start with a free copy of The Science of Getting Rich then once you feel comfortable, get the Master Key.
Then use this book as a travel companion of "greatest hits." I feel that this book is not foundational but a commentary and refresher course on two of the great teachers on this subject.

This book is very poorly typeset. Many overlooks this aspect of reading, but believe me, the content is so serious that requires a better presentation.
I recommend this other book that has an audiobook feature.

This is a great executive refresher of the teachings of Haanel and Wattles. Easy to read and nice codification of the best teachings of both. I was impressed by the illustrations and explanations of the laws of attraction, laws of gratitude, laws of harmony, & laws of action that are included in this book. Inspiring for anyone who enjoys the: mystics, mind sciences, new thought, the secrets of attraction, and more.
Because there are teachings of 2 people in this book, there are some contrasts in philosophy. Thus, the reviewer below overlooked that simple fact. The review below simply wants to plug his website and his spam should be removed. Before listening to the multi-level marketer below, buy the book and see what its like to go to the next level of mental science and understand the secrets of these 2 greats.

Mixed feelings........2007-03-26
This book has a fantastic and promising title . . . but, it just doesn't deliver enough.[..]
A good feature of this book is that the text is in large Arial font, printed on a slightly off-white paper (I personally think it is quite easy to read, no strain on the eyes at all. Although they could have done it without using Bold font - way too thick and harsh!)
The book is basically a short summary (about 58 pages) of two other books: "The Master Key System" by Charles F. Haanel and "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles.
The book has a few inconsistencies which are quite confusing. For example, on one page it says, in order to achieve your desires "be absorbed in the goal or object of your desires . . . a FEW MINUTES every day" and then, on another page, ". . . visualize and contemplate on your goals and ideas DAY AND NIGHT."
Also, the "bonus" section called "Critique and Summary of the Philosophy of Wallace Wattles", is not a critique at all. There is nowhere in it any criticizing, criticism, or critical comments on Mr. Wallace's work. What it really is, is a short (about 8 pages long) summary of concepts from the "Science of Getting Rich" book, peppered with some of Prof. Mentz's own ideas.
The book gives good general principles for materializing your desires, but does not provide a structured, practical, step-by-step clear method.
The section at the end called "Glossary", although a very useful section (it may even be the best 7½ pages in the book), is only a list of terms in paragraph form (and most of them are not even taken from the book itself!), without accompanying definitions.
I have mixed feelings recommending this book. Instead, if you are interested, go to self-improvement-ebooks.com and obtain the original versions in eBook format at a very reasonable cost (however, these are a much lengthier read). I especially enjoyed Wallace D. Wattles' Lessons in Constructive Science series contained in some of his collections.
A Great Manual for Abundance and Prosperity.......2006-08-15
This author takes The original Great manuscript -- The Master Key System by Haanel and codifies the 24 parts into a wonderful executive summary and manual on the teachings of Haanel. The book also has a critique of the secret 4 parts that are hard to get (parts 25, 26, 27, and 28).
Moreover, this manuscript has a really cool bonus chapter and summary on the applied metaphysics of The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles.
In sum, the books "brings it all together" for Haanel and Wattles and also contains a nifty metaphysical glossary in the back. Overall, it is a short, easy to read, super inspirational little book, and it is obvious that the author has done his homework.
This text is also a good source and supplement for persons interested in business leadership, building success on a spiritual level, Buddhist or Hindu Success Writings, Christian mysticism, and The philosophy of the great thinkers of success. A must buy if you want to go to the next level of your prosperity thinking.

This was an excellent collection of similar material. It helps to have them in one volume to cross reference
or to quote a particular author. The size of the book ( slightly larger than the typical paperback ) was
also a plus !!

THE BEST classic books on abundance and wealth.......2007-03-29
Where do I start with these books? Classic! Timeless! Must read! I sound like I'm writing copy for a blockbuster best seller. These books are the basis for many of the wealth and abundance work that we see today. Look at all the new material and then compare with these and you will see that the new ones have been updated in language and example, but the truths remain the same.
I believe in going to the source of popular material and especially The Science of Getting Rich and Think and Grow Rich are the wonderful. Both are short reads, but the concepts may have you going back over and over to clarify what seems to be amazing assertions. Take the messages seriously and you may seriously change your life and financial situation!

It is expected that the reader will take the fundamental statements upon faith, just as he would take statements concerning a law of electrical action if they were promulgated by a Marconi or an Edison; and, taking the statements upon faith, that he will prove their truth by acting upon them without fear or hesitation. Every man or woman who does this will certainly get rich; for the science herein applied is an exact science, and failure is impossible. For the benefit, however, of those who wish to investigate philosophical theories and so secure a logical basis for faith, I will here cite certain authorities. The monistic theory of the universe the theory that One is All, and that All is One; That one Substance manifests itself as the seeming many elements of the material world -is of Hindu origin, and has been gradually winning its way into the thought of the western world for two hundred years. It is the foundation of all the Oriental philosophies, and of those of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibnitz, Schopenhauer, Hegel, and Emerson. The reader who would dig to the philosophical foundations of this is advised to read Hegel and Emerson for himself. In writing this book I have sacrificed all other considerations to plainness and simplicity of style, so that all might understand.
