Customer Reviews:
Not Just for Dummies.......2007-10-06
I've read about a dozen books on stock investing in the last 6 months or so and this is probably my favorite. It's detailed, interesting, and very easy to read. It's perfect for dummies, or those new to the stock market, but also so loaded with great info that even the "experts" would probably pick up a few things here and there. Since I just finished reading it, cover to cover, for the second time, I thought I ought to give the author a well-deserved good review.
A good start.......2007-09-30
Like all the "Dummies" this is great groundwork. If you can not get through this book you should not be investing.
Good beginner book.......2007-09-02
My husband loved learning more about investing. This book repeats a lot throughout it, but it is very good information.
Not too hot.......2007-07-22
Easy read and good flow, but this book spends a lot of pages stating the obvious (even obvious or me, and I'm a novice to investing). Some of the early chapters discuss whether or not you're really ready to invest... well, duh! I would not have gotten this book if I was not ready to invest! Anyway, too many pages wasted on that. The real sin with this book is that the author dodges one of the most important things that needs to be talked about with stock investing-- rating the various broker firms. Ok author, I know you can't endorse one over the other directly, but how about helping your readers to find out how they can find out for themselves instead of leaving them stranded. If you're like me and you already know what companies you want to invest in, then one of the main things you need to find out about is which brokers would be the best for you and your needs, and this book never gave any hints.
BOOK LOOKS BRAND NEW.......2007-05-21
HAVENT HAD A CHANCE TO READ THE BOOK IN DETAILS, BUT I LIKE JUST HAVING IT WHEN I HAVE A QUESTION, I KNOW HAVE A RESOURCE TO FIND THE ANSWER.

Options Made Easy: Your Guide to Profitable Trading (2nd Edition)
ASIN: 076455364X |
Book Description
If you’re like the majority of the estimated 12 million employees in the U.S. who have stock options as a key component to their compensation packages, you have a vague notion, at best, of how options work and what they can mean to your financial well being. What’s the vesting schedule for your shares and how will their strike price be set? What type of stock option grant will you receive, an ISO (incentive stock option) or an NQSO (non-qualified stock option)? What tax rules apply to your option program? Your financial future could depend on your knowing the answers to these and other questions regarding your company’s stock option plan.
Confused by all the brouhaha surrounding stock options? Let expert Alan Simon demystify this often-confusing investment vehicle for you. Featuring clear explanations of how your stock options might make you money—or not—this friendly guide fills you in on what you need to know to:
- Understand different types of stock options
- Read and find traps in your stock option agreement
- Evaluate the pros and cons of company investment vehicles
- Assess vesting schedules and tax laws
- Tap Web resources
Simon demystifies the jargon, rules, and tax consequences of stock options. He provides a realistic picture of what to expect from your options, and he helps you see past the hype to understand what your employer is really offering. Important topics covered include:
- What you need to know before accepting a compensation package that includes options
- Developing a stock option philosophy and clear-cut goals
- Knowing whether you’re being treated fairly by your company
- Making sense of the language of stock options agreements
- Getting a handle on key restrictions on how you exercise your options
- Stock option valuation
- Tax rules and how they apply to different types of options
- How stock options can be affected by changes at your company
Stock Options For Dummies is the only guide you’ll need to get the most out of this important investment vehicle.
Customer Reviews:
Misleading title.......2007-05-07
This book is aimed at employees elegible to receive stock options in the company they work for from their employer.
It is NOT for investors wishing to buy and sell stock options through a stock broker.
Author response to "misleading title" complaints.......2006-03-21
First, disregard the 5-star rating. *I* think the book is good of course, but that's not why I'm writing this comment.
To the two recent reviewers who complain that the book isn't about puts and calls but rather about ISOs, NQSOs, etc. - look, I'm sorry for your inconvenience but if you had taken about 2 minutes to skim the table of contents and the editorial review on the amazon.com page ("...your company's stock option plan..."), you would CLEARLY see what type of stock options this book discusses. In fact, taking less time to do so than it took you to write your complaint-reviews and give the book a poor review would have saved each of you $20 or whatever the book cost you.
So my sympathies to you for your misspent $, but come on: blaming the author and publisher for your own haste and, further, feeling the need to do so publicly on an amazon.com review with one- and two-star rankings? (At least the other reader who did the same thing back in August, 2003 had the courtesy to give a 5-star ranking because of the reselling experience on amazon.com to rectify his/her error.)
I sincerely hope that if you do begin to dabble in puts and calls - the other kind of stock options - that you do so with much greater care than you took in making your respective book purchases. Otherwise, you should really think twice about that side of the investing world.
To the one reader who is looking for a beginner's book about the other kind of stock options: see "Futures and Options For Dummies" by Joe Duarte. But do your homework first before buying!
Title misleading.......2006-03-21
I was misled by the title of this book am disappointed. This book is NOT for individuals who want to take their investing to the next level and start trading options on the open market, as I had expected -- rather, it is for people who are offered stock options through their employer.
If anyone knows of a good beginner's book for trading stock options, please clue me in.
Book has the wrong title.......2006-01-01
I wanted a book that went through the publically traded options market.
Almost everything in the book deals with employee stock options.
There is very little information about trading options on the open exchange. The real title of this book is "Employee Stock Options for Dummies".
Good book + Free trading.......2005-10-30
This book is especially good for the person who wants a broad overview of investing. It will give you a solid foundation to begin growing your money from. After reading, I opened a Scottrade account because they had the lowest rates ($7), and no inactivity fee. [...] to get a referral for 3 free trades.

Customer Reviews:
Good as Always.......2007-03-25
Helped pass the Series 3 license, and helps with understading the industry.
Not much help for option trading.......2007-01-25
If you don't have a lot of money to invest, don't think seriously about reading this book.
not for dummies, but for serious traders.......2006-11-04
I would assume people who read this book would be the ones who already have good experience in stock trading. The author did a good job in explaining the macro-economic factors (money supply, interest rate,...). You have to get good understanding on all these before you can do good in future trading.
The author also did a good job in describing complicated topids in a simple and clean way. He is writing the book base on his experience and insight. He definitely is the kind of person who knows a lot and also know how to teach you things in a simple form.
A future in options.......2006-10-28
This author has explained concepts and strategies which I have used to make money. One trade, 100% return in one month, another 40% in two days!
This is the reason I read this book, to make money. No one should try to make money in options based on simple formulas. One must have a deeper understanding of how things work. Duarte has a firm grasp on this concept and ably communicates to his reader.
Particularly helpful is the section on recognizing trends and getting ahead of the curve. His 'Developing Strategies' does help the careful reader avoid pain in the market. Also helpful are his ten killer rules.
Futures and options trading isn't for the faint of heart. Useful information contained in this book offers information needed to have confidence in developing a trading plan that you understand and can make work. This is very useful indeed.
A very credible tome on a subject written with obvious insight and judgment that can only come with experience.

Wake up call for stock buyers.......2007-07-14
I listened to the CD everywhere I go. It reinforces me to check for fundamentals before buying stocks. It provides specific instructions on what to look for and not speculate. I had bought stocks in the past and did not know company's financial background. Now I will check my current stocks and see if I made the right choice.
The disadvantage of the CD: The author provided a lot of websites and it would be advantangeous to get the book.
