Leadership expert John Maxwell is extremely good at expressing complex truths in series of simple sentences that individually seem obvious. As the pages go by, one realizes one is being exposed to a well-thought out comprehensive world view as to how people should lead other people in a manner than benefits society as a whole.

Relationships are important to success, the author writes, because relationships are the glue that holds team members together.

What a leader needs to know about others, the author writes, is that people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Leaders can encourage others, the author says, by believing in people before they have proved themselves. This is the key to motivating people to reach their potential.

Leaders can connect with people, the author says, by always remembering that the heart comes before the head.

Leaders can become better listeners, the author says, by treating every person as if he or she were the most important person in the world.

Leaders can build trust with others, the author says, by having their words and actions match.

The most important relationships, the author says, are at home. Succeed at home, and all other relationships become easier.

A leader can serve and lead people at the same time by loving the people he or she leads more than his or her position, the author says.

As the author always does in the many books he writes, he backs up his views with famous historical quotes and anecdotes.. He quotes longtime Reagan aide Michael Deaver on how Reagan managed the press--he liked people and succeeded in getting the press corps to like him--and his staff--he found ways to make clear to everyone how important they were to him.

The author quotes President Harry Truman that "When we understand the other fellow's viewpoint--understand what he is trying to do--nine times out of ten he is trying to do right." He quotes President Woodrow Wilson as saying "The ear of the leader must ring with the voices of the people" and President Lyndon Johnson as keeping a sign in his office saying "You ain't learnin' nothin' when you're doin' all the talkin."

The author quotes World War I hero Marshal Ferdinand Foch: "There are no hopeless situations; there are only men and women who have grown helpless about them."

The author quotes Pennsylvania Revolutionary War era great Benjamin Franklin as saying that "Those things that hurt, instruct." He quotes Pennsylvania founder William Penn as saying "Never despise or oppose what thou does not understand."

The author quotes philosopher-poet-longshoreman Eric Hoffer: "It is not love of self but hatred of self which is at root of the troubles that afflict our world." The author says that important things to know about people is that everybody wants to be somebody, nobody cares how much you know until he knows how much you care, that everybody needs somebody to come alongside and help, and everybody can be somebody when somebody understands and believes him or her.

The author says that most people don't have faith in themselves, most people don't have someone who has faith in them, most people can tell when someone else has faith in them, and most people will do anything to live up to faith in them.

To become a believer in people, the author advises that people emphasize their strengths, list their past successes, instill confidence when they fail, visualize thier future successes, and expect a new level of living.

Leaders should recognize that the heart comes first, they should connect in public and in private, they should connect with people one at a time, they should expect the best of them, and they should recognize that the tougher the challenge the greater the connection. Southwest Airlines CEO Herb Kelleher is cited for the many ways in which he makes meaningful connections with his employees; Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton is also cited for going out of his way to have a long talk with a company truckdriver to both pay him respect and gain information from him.

The author's advice for developing listening skills is: look at the speaker, don't interrupt,focus on understanding, determine the need of the moment, check your emotions, suspend your judgment, sum up at major intervals, ask questions for clarity,and always make listening your priority.

Personal integrity is key to building trust with others, the author says. Integrity is not determined by circumstances, not based on credentials, and not to be confused with reputation. One can become a person of integrity by committing oneself to honesty, reliability and confidentiality; deciding ahead of time that you don't have a price; and each day doing what you should do before what you want to do.

To build a strong family, the author says, both partners have to work to stay together, express appreciation for each other, structure their lives to spend time together, deal with crises in a positive way, communicate continually, and share the same values.

To serve and lead people at the same time, one should have a servant's heart, put others ahead of one's own agenda, possess the confidence to serve, initiate service to others, not be position conscious, and serve out of love. To improve one's servanthood, one should perform small acts of kindness for others; learn to walk slowly through the crowd, making it your agenda to get to know each person's needs, wants, and desires; and to move into action and start serving.

Anyone in a leadership position, or aspiring to a leadership position, will benefit from reading this book. All the wisdom of the world can not be summarized in lists and aphorisms, but the author's methods go a long way to bringing common sense to the uncommon responsibilities many people face on a daily basis. This is an excellent book for those who wish to use their power to do much, much more than advance themselves.

This is a great book. Especially if you like John Maxwell books. This is a compilation of several chapters from some of Maxwell's other bestsellers, and it serves as a great refresher on key leadership principles. The chapters on integrity, and family are worth the price of the book. It is a great, and easy read.

I must say this book is outlined very well and covers many topics, though it mainly focuses on hetersexual sex and relationships. Though it's mainly informative, I also found the personal comments to be valuable and helpful. If you're looking for a book that supplies tips, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a thorough guide, this is it. And it's quite inexpensive for its mammoth size.

This is a great gift! I would recommend it for any grandparent, here's why:

Cute: grandparents love cute things

Cheap: even if it's not used for information, it's cheap enough to make the cute factor pay off the whole of the price

Useful: it really does have good ways to spoil your grandchild

I bought this book for my grandma, and she loved it because it's cute...the only problem is she hasn't really been spoiling me with it...I think it's because she must not really know how to read. I KNOW she loves me and we all know love = money, so it must not be that, so I think it's a reading problem. I also think that's why she laughed when she opened it, now I know it was a Nervous laugh! because she can't read. Some of you reading this may think it's mean to say all this about my grandma whom I love, but just don't tell her (Jeanette Ross), we all know she won't be able to read it herself anyway. Maybe someday she'll learn her "letters." Which makes me wonder, if when you die, you go to heaven, if you couldn't read before, do they teach you? Do you magically know? What about Chinese people? Can you talk to them in heaven? Do they get taught English or do you get taught Chinese? Or is there a "Heaven Language?" If there is a "Heaven Language," what is the closest one on earth to is? Is the "Heaven Language" the one Adam and Eve spoke, or did they speak something different? I can't wait to die and find all this out!

Very informative and easy to read for both sides of an angry relationship. There are many scientific facts in this book that you wouldn't realize without it. Like the effect cursing has on the chemical reations in your body and how aggresive driving effects the rest of your daily interactions. It also tells the different types of angry men and which ones can be reformed and the ones to walk away from.

Something that is missed is, sometimes you blow your stack when fully pushed to the wall with no recourse. Even a rabbit will bite in that situation. If this response is occasional, rather than a routine lifestyle, and results from the other person's dogmatic refusal to compromise while attacking your core values, it may indeed be the "other person's fault", or more accurately, you made a bad choice in mates.

This book took ages to find having read about it a couple of years back. Was it worth the wait? Yes. It's an ingenious way to have fun with your partner, to do things together. There are 50 things to surprise the woman, 50 things to surprise the man. The fun is in the excitement of what surprise is in store for you. It helps to overcome inhibitions too.

A Waste of Money.......2007-05-24

This book was suggested to me by a family member, and I had a hard time getting my husband to agree to buy it since we couldn't see what we were buying. After finally convincing him, I have to say he was completely right. We agreed to alternate weeks, with him tearing out a page the first week, and me taking one the next week.

After a few weeks, we ended up just tearing all the pages out one night, looking for good ones. The author makes a lot of assumptions, and writes her seductions accordingly. In order for the majority of these to work, you have to live in a house, not an apartment, have office jobs, and a big bank account. A lot of the pages that are "For His Eyes Only" involve a lot of preparation to create a very romantic scene, which aren't always practical, or instruct him to treat the woman like an object because, "that's her biggest fantasy." The pages that are "For Her Eyes Only" tend to involve minimal planning and a lot of oral sex.

In addition to all of that, some pages tell you before you open them that they will cost you a certain amount of money, but you can't always trust that. She assumes that you will have certain items, and if you don't, it will cost you. The few pages we've actually used cost at least $25 each, and we can't afford to spend that much on unnecessary items every week.

Last, but not least, some of the pages suggest things that are so outrageous we would never consider them. Most of those involve sexual acts in very public places (restaurants, theaters, even department store fitting rooms) that are a good way to get arrested. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Definitely worth the money...........2007-01-29

I am glad that I ignored the few negative reviews of this book and just went for it. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and have bought books of this genre before, but they have all been total duds, usually because the "hot" suggestions were things that only a sexual idiot wouldn't have thought of before (showering together, anyone?). To be sure, there are some suggestions like that in Laura Corn's book, but to be honest this is the only book we've found that also includes some genuinely creative, slightly wild, and very FUN ideas as well! I'm a little on the shy side, but I do have an imagination, and it is very freeing to have an instruction sheet to "blame" the escapade on in case it does turn out to be a dud. Most of them, though, I have to say, have NOT been duds! (I did cheat and read most of the pages right after I bought the book, because the element of surprise wasn't so important to me, but my husband LOVES to be surprised...just decide what's right for you if you get the book).

So, basically I only have one big quibble with the book. My husband and I are totally against any and all use of pornography, which eliminates at least 5 of the scenerios right off the bat. There's another scenerio where Laura recommends "hooker" role-playing, and several more where she lauds the praises of porn stars like Jenna Jamison, which we found completely tasteless. So, for some people, that might be enough to bypass this book altogether. Also, Laura LOVES to incorporate a vibrator into her suggestions (a dozen or so), so if you don't like that idea (I just don't care for the things, personally), those are out, too.

If you are willing to just ignore any pages that offend you, though, and if you'd like to break out of your shell a bit and have been wanting to spice up your love life, this is a really good place to start. The reviewers who complained about the amount of money spent are overexaggerating; there were 8 or so scenerios by my count that required a nice meal out and a hotel (>$100), maybe a dozen more in the $30-50 range, and most of the others didn't require any truly significant purchases. And, nearly half can be done with stuff you probably already have around the house. So, if that all sounds pretty good, have fun!

This book is perfect for new couples, honeymooners, or couples that are adding a new "spark" to their relationship. Makes it easy to do something special with your loved one, everything needed is listed.....a must have for couples.

My husband & myself have been married for 10 yrs. This book certainly gave us some refreshing ideas. It is fun, & exciting. I certainly liked the fact that each chapter is sealed, & seperate for him & her. So you have no idea what your partner is going to do. (Very Exciting!) After 10 yrs of marraige it really helped spice up our sex life. So many different ideas. And it's almost like opening a new present everytime you get to a new chapter. I think that's what makes it so different from other books. You have nothing to lose. I recomend it very highly! Have Fun!

this book is amazing. i stumbled upon it in the bookstore and it was the last copy on display. i picked it up and thumbed through it and i was hooked. i'd never heard of the authors and this book. unfortunately i think we give a lot of credit to authors who get on major television shows and some authors that have good stuff to say don't ever get the credit they deserve....

back to the book...it's a great book the chapters are short and sweet (but not too short) and as other reviewers have mentioned the couple has lots of experience as therapists and a real married couple. i plan to suggest to my boyfriend that we read a couple of chapters an evening and discuss them. i really like the concepts in the book and think if you're in a serious relationship leading to marriage you owe it to yourself to get this. i suspect if you're already married you can still benefit too!

this is a must have book, whether or not you're married or even after! My husband and i highlighted sections that meant something to us and discussed them. really helped us over a hump! Highly recommend and it's an easy read.

A must have for those just married or about to get married!.......2006-03-13

Background:

I am getting married in about 10 weeks. My fiancé and I have recently had to deal with several issues that have surfaced. We are both very open, well educated and understanding, but all of a sudden we had trouble communicating well regarding several topics. We both come from parents who are remarried, and the overall divorce rate is very high in our family which scares us both. Furthermore, my mother's second marriage is one of those wonderful relationships that are written about in children's fairytales, and lately I have felt pressured that my relationship must to compare to hers.

Review:

If you are married, thinking about getting married, or recently married, you owe it to yourself read this book! If you aren't hooked on the book by the end of the table of contents I would be shocked!

I found this book at a local bookstore while browsing through the relationship section and it is GREAT! The book is basically a compilation of mostly lighthearted tips and pointers drawn from real life experience which would take a newly married couple many years to figure out. The book tackles many subjects, which after reading seem so simple and straight forward that I would have felt silly had I not understood them; however the truth is, I had never thought about these subjects, let alone how to deal with them.

After about three hours I am half way through the book and really feel like I am learning lessons that take others years of marriage to learn. The book has also helped my confide in, and understand the many benefits of a long enduring relationship that I had not thought about. Many of the books' subjects also revolve around the controversies and hurtles that a long term relationship will eventually face. The wonderful wisdom that Charlie and Linda Bloom present, is not how to try and avoid these rather unavoidable circumstances, but instead how to use these difficult times to help your marriage grow and become stronger than it would be had these situations not occurred. This is a great feeling, especially for men whose married and single friends often say very derogatory things regarding relationships in general.

Worth reading.......2006-02-02

For newlyweds or those married for a number of years, this book has many gems of wisdom to offer. My husband and I have been married for 28 years and read the book together and found it refreshing and helpful in some areas where we recognized chronic tension in our relationship. The authors' overall assessments of a variety of relationships and wisdom for handling various issues that arise between committed couples is on target. It is worth reading and would make a good gift for weddings (or anniversaries!)

In communicating and trying to figure out what it is men want, sometimes it's necessary to go directly to the source: men! Michelle McKinney Hammond has done that in her latest book, 101 WAYS TO GET AND KEEP HIS ATTENTION. She has interviewed 100 men of various ages, races, backgrounds, and socioeconomic status to find out exactly what it is they look for in a woman; especially the one they will make their wife. Using their answers and her Christian background, Ms. Hammond has created a step-by-step guide for women interested in getting inside a man's heart, while simultaneously making themselves better people.

Although the book is spiritually based with scriptures and guidance from God's teachings, it is also broken down into the basics of what most men agree attracts them to women. Using the five senses as the focus, this book is indeed a repository of information for becoming the woman who not only interests a man, but also one who is pleasing to God. It's no big secret that men enjoy the physical appearance of women, but 101 WAYS TO GET AND KEEP HIS ATTENTION delves a bit deeper into the man's psyche and shows his vulnerability, his desire for love, affection, gentleness, and to be appreciated. It further details how our moods, tone, and even touch can make or break his spirit. As an extra bonus, sprinkled throughout the book are quotes, as well as poems highlighting the beauty of love and sharing that love with another person.

Great Survery Book.......2004-08-08

I have enjoyed all of Hammond's book to date! Through her writings, she has guided me on finding my dream man, the right ways, which is THE LORD WAY! I have learned so much, I wished I had read her books years ago, it would have saved me so much heartche.

I would have gave this book 5 stars (like I have on her other books), but this is a survey book. Not that their is anything wrong with survey books, but this book seems to be repetative of her other books.

Not Just for Christians........................2003-11-13

This is the second book I have read by Ms. Hammond and I wasn't disappointed at all. In fact I read it in one day. This book is not just for single/married christian women but for any woman who is concerned about how she may or may not appear to the opposite sex or let alone to others as a whole. I recommend this book to all woman if for nothing else as a guide for self examination. Are you projecting the woman that you want others to see? Are you being and displaying the best in order to attract Gods best? Now that's a thought! Ms Hammond is only aiding us ladies with a 101 check list of things to enhance our relationships whether it be with your man or the MAN (God). Read, enjoy, and be blessed.

A single woman CAN be an authority on Getting and Keeping!.......2003-10-29

Okay, firstly, I'd like to thank the reviewer who believes that because Michelle has never been married, she may not be an authority on how to get and keep a man, or the attention of a man. You encouraged me to see just how fast I could buy and read yet another one of Michelle's awesome pieces. The book is classic "Michelle," full of Godly, sound, tried, tested and true advice. I highly recommend it. It is different and that makes it useful and a great, quick read. If you are (or even if you're not) a studier of God's word, you should know that there IS worthy advice according to scripture found in the Song of Solomon, Proverbs and other books of the bible. Michelle reflects that in this book. Buy it! ...NOW: Perhaps some women have been gifted with the patience and wisdom to wait on the RIGHT man, not willing to accept sorry substitutes, no matter how fine, rich or available they may seem. God has the right ONE for all of us. There was a time when I, too questioned Michelle's single status..I'm also single, and would like to have my husband, but in GOD's sovereign time. She is a stunning, intelligent, talented, annointed sister and yes, it puzzles me why God hasn't given her a mate yet. But while she is waiting, you'd be wise to follow the example and teaching that she offers freely. Well, actually for $8.99 plus shipping in this case. The author explains that the materials come from a survey given to men from all walks of life. She was intelligent enough to obtain information from the source, the men women are trying to attract and keep.

This author is an author who hears from God. When you have a relationship with God and allow Him to use you as a vessel, your resume or experience means nothing, when God qualifies you that is all that you need.

I recommend this book whether you are trying to attract and keep a man or not. It reminds you to do what is necessary to reflect what God created you to be, a beautiful, confident woman.

I bought the book for my 3 sisters and me. I gave them to my sisters for Christmas and asked them to let me know when they read certain stories that reminded them of things they remember. I haven't heard from them yet, but I know I will, as all 4 of us are close at heart though miles apart. They all agreed it was a perfect gift.

I bought this book with the intention of giving it to my sister when I asked her to be my maid of honor at my wedding. I had forgotten that I already bought this book for her (I kept this copy for me). I marked a touching story in the book having to do with a wedding. She didn't get the meaning behind it, but it made her cry anyways and the best part is that she said yes!

Another great chicken soup book in the series.
A must to share between sisters and friends. There is a chapter dedicated to brothers as well. I would have to say this is probably the best chicken soup book i have read by far!!!

The Chicken Soup that "Touched Me"........2003-11-04

This book really touched me. It taught me to love my sisters whenever they are mean or do bad things. One of these stories was the most awesome story ever! I said that this one girl's sister had cancer and lost all of her hair. When she went to visit her sister she had a hat on that said "having a bad hair day," but when she took the hat off she was bald,she shaved all of the hair on her head off so her sister woulnd't feel bad about having no hair. That was the story that touched me the most.

My sister in law had the older version of this book, and she showed it to my wife. We wanted something to make our love-life more exciting.

When we ordered it, we found out it was updated, and improved! The seductions are easy to setup and do, with five-star results!

I get romance points with my wife by ripping out the envelopes with these cool ideas, and going to the trouble to make them happen. (Not much trouble, when it's all planned out for you.)

I love it when I get a teaser in my email from the website. It really increases the anticipation, if you know what I mean!

Got this book as an anniversary gift for DH. It is grrreat! You rip out a sealed 'envelope' and open it up for an awesome seduction, complete with ingredients and instructions. We love knowing the other has something planned, but not knowing what it is until it happens!

101 Nights has been completely updated with a new cover, new seduction ideas, and a link to Laura's website where you can send an eCard or an iTease before you seduce your partner. The iTeases are grrreat, too! They add a little mystery and fun to the whole process.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to spice up (or rescue) their love life. My favorite so far is #8 Peek-A-Boo!

On top of working and parenting the last thing we have time for is to come up with creative ideas to keep the romance alive. This was purchased as a gift. An attempt to get romance back into a 21 year marriage relationship that has gone a little stale. The book was recommended by my niece in Canada. She and her husband absolutely love it! They have alot of fun with the romance and dates!!! A great gift for a new couple and a fabulous gift for a well seasoned, getting predictable couple.
