5 out of 5 stars Super third novel!.......2007-07-19

Zoey Dean is at it again, with her third book in the A- List Series. In this book Anna gets an internship with Clark Sheppard, Cammie's dad, after Margaret gets angry at her. Things are going great in the set, and Anna may be falling in love with another guy. Ben goes back to Princeton, worried that Anna will fall in love with another guy. Cammie, on the other hand, tries to destroy Anna's intership. Information is leaked to Hollywood tonight about the show, Hermosa Beach, and everyone believes it is Anna. Clark fires Anna for this and Mia, Cammie's new stepsister has had enough with Cammie and tells her stepfather, Clark, that it was Cammie, for which he takes away her credit cards and car. Clark offers Anna the job back, but does not apologize, so Anna turns him down, so she an work on her film with Sam.

1 out of 5 stars Parents BEWARE! Lots of sexual content........2006-07-10

These books are touted as "teen" books, but are highly sexual and completely inappropriate for young people. I read one just to keep up with what my 13-year-old stepdaughter is reading and could not believe that her mother allows her to read this trash. Passages where teens are kissing, then "moaning", then "moving on top of her" are common. This is adult material, not suitable for teens.

5 out of 5 stars A-List #3: Blonde Ambition.......2006-06-28

Once again, I am addicted to the A-List novels. I started reading it, then got bored, then picked it up again a few days later and read it all the way through. I loved it. This one had more action in it.
Okay, so Ben and Anna are together, and then Anna gets an interneship with Clark Sheppard, which is Cammie's dad. Cammie is really mad, and she tries to get revenge. She's also mad at Sam and Dee because they seem to be hanging out with Anna more, so she starts trying to get Adam from Sam but then when she kisses him she thinks there's something more.
Anna and Ben have problems too, when Ben doesn't go back to Princeton. Then, when he does she and Danny are together.
I wish Anna wouldn't do this. I mean, maybe Ben isn't best for her but she is being such a player.
Either way, I loved this book

5 out of 5 stars THE A-LIST DOES IT AGAIN!.......2006-06-27

The a-List yet again does not cease to amaze me! This book was a wonderful read and I thoought it was as good as the others! Anna and Ben are finally back togther, but what is up with ben's jealousy problem? Ben obviously can't stand to see Anna with another guy, and thats why he's put Princeton aside. Sam continues to be a good friend to Anna. But really, what is going on with the Cammie and Adam thing? Adam is such a great guy and Cammie is amazingly catty, can their relationship work? Or is it doomed to fail like all other hollywood relationships? Is Ben going beck to Princeton?ever? Is Anna going to grow tired of Ben and his jealous ways? Or will she stay by his side in the name of love? Read the book to find out!!!!

5 out of 5 stars I Loved it!.......2006-06-19

This was a great book! Ben really started annoying me because he was becoming so protective. I finshed this book in 2 days and i'm on " A-List" withdrawl right know. I l,oved all the new chartcters that evolved.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Magic School Bus series.......2007-01-04

These are great educational books where children have no idea that they are learning.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing compared to earlier Magic School Bus books.......2006-05-01

My 4 year old son fell in love with the earlier books in this series - Hurricane, Ocean Floor, Electricity, Human body, Water Works, Bees. They are rich in detail, and are very engaging for young exploring minds. This one (MSB Kicks Up a Storm) pales by comparison. Not nearly as much detail. Lacks the quality of illustrations and side-commentary that make the earlier ones so special. This is a run-of-the-mill kids book with nothing much to distinguish it. I have read elsewhere that this series took a downturn when it became a TV show. It certainly reads like a comic-book version of a TV show. Take my son's advice - stick with the earlier books in the Magic School Bus series.

4 out of 5 stars Shicka-Shicka Kaboom! The Book........2005-07-16

It's high summer at school and hot, hot, hot. Carlos is working on a rain catcher, but there's no rain. Ralphie stares out the window and concludes that what they all need to cool down is a big thunderstorm. The only problem is that the kids don't know how weather is made. Is it water? Is it moving air or the heat from the sun that creates weather?

Well, of course, there's nothing to be done about it but to get out there, take chances, get messy and make mistakes!

The children learn all about weather but not before they are turned into water droplets, ride on falling ice crystals and get whooshed about in a thermal updraft. Shicka-Shicka Kaboom! Ralphie gets carried away as your children will be.

Four Stars. These books are very educational, but they are not the easiest read-alouds. (I read them to my 3 and 5 year-olds anyway.)

**See the `Search Inside' Excerpt page for an example of reading level. Certainly young children will not be able to read them.

4 out of 5 stars If you have seen the episode..........2007-04-22

... don't read the book. CAUTION, SPOILIERS!!! Overall, it was a good book. Part one tells the story of how Miley is paired up with Oliver in drama class to do a love scene. (kissing is included) Oliver and Miley practice at her house after school. Oliver is HORRIBLE at acting. He tells Miley he has stage fright, and a story along with it. Then he goes home. Meanwhile, Miley tells her dad about how awful Oliver is at acting, and how she wants to bail on him. Just then, Oliver comes through the door. Miley doesn't notice and keeps on talking about how horrible he is. Her dad tells her to turn around and she sees a shocked Oliver who leaves in anger. That night, Hannah Montana (Miley is Hannah Montana, but only Oliver, Lilly, and her family know) has to perform the country song, and forgets the words. She messes up the song. The next day, her dad signs her up to sing on a live show as Hannah, and she is afraid she'll mess up again. She does, but Oliver is right there, and backs her up. The two become friends again. This book is great, but it is a waste of time to read if you have seen the episode. I have, so that is why I only gave it four stars. The second part is the episode, "On The Road Agian," which I have also seen.

5 out of 5 stars this book has spirt.......2007-10-01

I know these are not the most amazing books ever written but i enjoy them. I love catherine hapka's series star power it is alot like this story. they are both about "down to earth teens" it makes them seem unreal, but is nice for people who want a sweet story instead of most storys about teens. In this book it is school spirt week and at the end of the week there is a sadie hokins dance. Troy is waiting for Grabreila to ask him, but there is something else on her mind. She over hears her mom on the phone talking to her boss. And grabriala thinks they are going to have to move again. The ending is not queit what i thought it would be but it does have that super sweet happy ending.

5 out of 5 stars hsm books rock!!.......2007-10-01

This is a short and sweet book. I read it in a day (plus or minsus a few hours.) It was a sweet story. I think that it is very nice for young girls to read i would recommened it to anyone who likes disney or the movies (high school musical 1 or 2.) This book takes place inbetween the two movies. And at the moment there is a battle of the bands, troy is doing it with his b-ball friends. Sharpay is doing a girl group, with her devoted "fans" (and taylor.) so where does that leave gabreila and ryan?? the book of course has a happy ending but is very nice.

5 out of 5 stars We're Going to Have Our Cake...and Be Eaten, Too!.......2007-07-11

"Our teacher, Ms. Frizzle, is always surprising us. So on her birthday, we decided to surprise her. We planned a big party. We had balloons, streamers, confetti, and even noisemakers. 'We thought of everything,', said Carolos. But Arnold wasn't so sure. 'Something's missing', he said." -- From the book

In case you're not familiar with Scholastic series of Magic School Bus books, they are books which are based on the animated TV series--which are, incindentally, based on the ORIGINAL books written by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen. (Whew!)

In The Magic School Bus Gets Baked in a Cake, Ms. Frizzle takes her class to a bakery for a chemistry field trip. According to Ms. Frizzle, a bakery is a small chemical factory.

The class gets the idea to distract Ms. Frizzle by sending her to a nearby auto parts store to fix the bus. Meanwhile, they've been shrunken to the size of a moth--but make the attempt to bake a chocolate cake for Ms. Frizzle's surprise birthday party!

The kids learn about measuring and chemical reactions, including to the old vinegar + baking soda = gas experiment (which actually contributes to them escaping getting baked into the cake!).

As always, there are cheesy jokes throughout (e.g. "We've got flour power" and "This batter is taking a real beating"), but it's a great introduction to "kitchen chemistry"--and how mixing ingredients and adding heat (baking) are, in fact, chemical reactions.

I use the Magic School Bus books, videos and DVDs to supplement science class (I homeschool), and they never disappoint with their down-to-Earth approach to science concepts.

3 out of 5 stars 'The Magic School Bus Gets Baked' is questionable.......2005-01-07

I don't think children's books should glorify these sorts of "trips". But the colors are vivid and I think most of the unsuitable references will go over the heads of its younger readers.

5 out of 5 stars MAgic school bus "cake".......2004-02-04

I liked this book, it was interrasting and it had made me read more and omre till i got through it all. I like the part when the shrunk and the guy was chaseing them and the flew into the cake and went into the oven i didn't think there would make it out.

4 out of 5 stars Kitchen Chemistry Fizzes.......2001-06-14

When their inimitable school bus goes on the fritz (or should I say, "frizz"?,) the students get worried: this is one field trip they don`t want to miss. They`re trying to give their unique teacher a surprise birthday party and need to get to the bakery for the cake. When they finally reach their destination, the unstable bus suddenly shrinks, with everyone in it, to the size of a moth. They dodge the baker`s fly swatter and Ms Frizzle while using kitchen chemistry to get the job done. My boys and I miss the volume of information and mini "reports" of the original series, but they still learn and have fun at the same time. They have a new respect for cooking, as edible chemistry. And the baking soda experiment at the back of the book is a rainy day standby in our household: we love the fizz from the Frizz!

5 out of 5 stars I liked it........1997-11-10

I liked it because the baker thought the magic school bus was a moth.

4 out of 5 stars One of the better 'High School Musical' books.......2007-08-21

A nice 'tween read, this little paperback makes it easy for your child to relive the story of High School Musical 2 (Extended Edition) (2007) without having his or her eyes glued to the tube. It's plenty visual, as it even incorporates the film's dance routines into its plot. For example, here's how it covers Ryan's baseball game:

"Even as the Wildcats tried to explain that they didn't dance... Ryan had them do some baseball moves... Then he turned the action into a high-energy dance step, and pretty soon the Wildcats were moving and grooving all over the baseball diamond. The improvised dance ended with Chad sliding into home plate."

With about 100 words per page, this is a book that will last, oh, maybe two days tops. There are also eight pages of color photos.

-- By Julie Neal, author of The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World.

4 out of 5 stars the musical .......2007-03-06

This book is a great book. It has lots of excitement. The main characters are Troy and Gabriella. They met at a vacation sweet and sang a song. They loved singing together and couldn't stop looking at each other and then every once in a while would look at the lyrics so they new were the rest of the song.

After the summer Troy went back to school and went back to playing basketball, Gabriella went to a new school. Her mom and she went to see the principal and Gabriella's mom to her to class. Troy walked in the room and saw a glimpse of Gabriella but he couldn't tell if it was her or not. He called Gabriella's cell phone to see if the girl that looked so much like Gabriella would answer her phone. When call began all you herd was a phone go off and Troy's picture popped up on the screen. The musical teacher Mrs.Darbus went over to all the students and gave Sharpe, and Ryan a detention for no reason. She told them to give her there cell phones. She walked over to Gabriella and told her they have zero tolerance of cell phones and welcome to your new school. Troy sew Gabriella walk out of the room and followed her. He said hi and Gabriella's face light up with relief. They walked to there next ask and saw the auditions. Troy asked Gabriella if she was going to troy out she replied with a big no. It's my first year I'm going to wait a while before jumping into anything. She asked troy the same he same I'm not really the singing boy at this school I'm the basketball dude.

This was a gift for a 9-yr-old. She loved it! As it turned out,
she had already read a library copy and was positively thrilled
to have her very own copy.

5 out of 5 stars High School Musical.......2006-11-18

In the book High School Musical Troy Bolton and his dad were playing one on one basketball and his dad is also his b-ball coach (which I would find very hard!) the way to keep Troy going is "He'll look middle, you take it downtown!" is always what Coach Bolton says to Troy. My opinion on this is GREAT because I LOVE the movie too I give them both 5 stars. The drama teacher Ms. Darbus also Troy and Gabriella's homeroom teacher is always a grumpy gills and too full of herself. She feels that no one has any homeroom manners because the class is too talkative when there really not. Her exact words were "I expect we all learned our homeroom manners yesterday?!" If I had a teacher like that I would probably never go to that class or even school!
Whenever Ms. Darbus talks it just troughs me off because she absolutely no sense to me like when she says "Musical Arts is cleansing for the soul" seriously she needs to get a grip and not only think about musicals and herself and the drama club members. Another thing that I don't like about this book is how Ryan and Sharpay only think about how they are going to win the musical and that they've been in 17 school musicals and are never going to lose against anybody ever! Then somehow one day all the cliques and groups came together all as one big group. I would recommend this book to anybody who loved the movie!!!

Oprah Book Club® Selection, December 1997: The first three books in Bill Cosby's Little Bill series, which fall somewhere between Fat Albert and Fatherhood in sensibility, are designed to help kids cope with tough social situations. In The Meanest Thing to Say Little Bill must figure out how to avoid the challenge offered by the new kid in his class, "The Dozens," a duel of insults Bill doesn't want to join. With his family's help (which is free of preaching), Bill finds a solution.

Dr. Alvin F. Poussant, a frequent Cosby collaborator and advisor, adds a useful introduction to explain why Little Bill not only beats the game, but also goes on to befriend its instigator. (The publisher recommends the book for ages 4-8, but because the author is Bill Cosby, kids up to age 10 would probably accept the counsel offered by this volume and others in the series.)

Book Description

Michael Reilly has introduced a new game to Little Bill and his friends. You get twelve chances to say something mean to another kid--and whoever comes up with the biggest insult is the winner. Insults start flying: "Jose hops with the frogs in science lab!" "Andrew eats frogs for dinner!" "Little Bill shoots baskets like a girl!"Little Bill tries to think of really mean things to say in retaliation. But Dad teaches him a strategy that enables Little Bill to save face while remaining the nice kid that he really is!

5 out of 5 stars Cosby tells "stories about situations children often face.".......2007-03-15

The Meanest Thing To Say is not about saying mean things back to mean people. And it isn't even about mean people. What it IS about is children learning self-control, level-headedness and heart. When the new kid, Michael, calls Little Bill names, and says he has to think of the meanest things to say back the next day, Bill is frustrated and anxious. This comes up at home and his dad tells him to just say, "So?" to everything. Little Bill does this and it halts Michael. It takes two people to fight. But the moral of the story doesn't stop here. Bill observes Michael is a new student and maybe just needs a friend. So he invites him to play basketball with him and they become friends.

Unfortunately it is reality that children can be very mean and hurtful. As parents, we need to teach our children how to handle bullies and it's equally as important to teach them not to BE a bully. Also, just ignoring mean actions and words doesn't always work. Everyone has good in them and we all, ages 2-102 need to offer kindness instead of anger. Great job, Cosby! Thank you and please keep writing. Peace & Soar!o8E

THIS BOOK IS AN EXCELLENT LEARNING TOOL. IT IS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT AND I AM SURE IT WILL BE READ AND EACH CHILD WILL LEARN FROM IT!

5 out of 5 stars Great lesson.......2006-03-16

I just got this book yesterday for my son who just turned 3 years old. He really enjoyed it and after reading it, he kept asking me to read it over. He was very interested because he started asking questions at the end. He just started preschool and I wanted to introduce him to possible situations he might go through while in school. This story gives a great lesson on how to handle a situation when someone says something mean to you. My son also enjoyed it because the situation takes place in school and at a basketball court, which he can relate to because he started school and he loves to play basketball.

5 out of 5 stars Secret Weapon Against Bullies.......2006-03-03

I was looking for a book to help my 9 year-old deal with other kids who say cruel and demeaning things. My son and I sat down and read the book together and then discussed how saying "so" when mean things are said takes away the bullies power. We decided that "so" was his new secret weapon.

My son was so excited when the very next day at school he used his secret weapon and it worked. He has also shared the book with a few of his classmates and it has helped them too.

GREAT BOOK!

Rosewell high is any ordinary high school, but the only thing is that you don't know what's really happening.
There are 7 caracters theire names are Max, Liz, Maria, Alex, Michael, Kyle, Sherif Valenti, and Isabel.
Max, Liz, Maria, Isabel, Michael, sherif valenti are the main main caracters. Max always liked liz and when she was shoot in the stomach max healed her and she thought she was going to die and he told her to lie and she did and
after she went to his house and she asked him how and he told her he was an alien and she freaked out. So he thinks she hates him until later. Liz never liked him but wounce she found out she found this urge to just fall in love with him and do everything to save his life. Max, isabel, micheal, and maria are all aliens and hopes that liz dosent tell sherif valenti about theire discovery.I would really recommend this book to all ages.

4 out of 5 stars I was surprised at how close the TV adaptation was........2005-08-24

The pilot episode of Roswell was one of the better episodes of the series I've always thought, I got a copy of this book because it's the one the series is based on. While the writing style is probably aimed more at the teen market if you're older and liked the series this book won't be a bad item.
A few things are very different, Max is a blond and blue eyed senior, Liz is Liz Ortecho (whose dead older sister Rosa O'D on drugs)- instead of Parker, Michael Guerin is an A student (all three aliens are)and Isabel is the little sister- a junior in High School.
Liz's shooting is a little different than the series, Sheriff Valenti and son Kyle are meaner (and Valenti is a member of a secret government anti alien group). The incubation pods are mentioned, as is the cave, but in the book Michael came out of his pod days before the Evans (who shared a pod). A lot of things show similarity to the first season of Roswell, although not all were in the same episode- it seems obvious to me that the writers used this book as a sort of guide.
I don't know if I'll get the rest of the series but this one was a quick, fun little thing to read, and a lot more like what you saw on TV than most book to TV adaptations usually are.

5 out of 5 stars Left Me Aching.......2005-01-04

This book is GREAT! Probaly the only book in the series that the TeleVision adaption kept completely - The outsider is a great piece of literature. Its cute, quick, daring, and intresting. ESPECIALLY if you keep reading the series, you'll notice how unique and great the customers are. A Definate Must-read. Esspecially for teens.

5 out of 5 stars Alien Encounter.......2004-12-07

Wow! What a great read! I couldn't put it down. I wanted to read the book because I'm such a big fan of the TV show. It's soo much better!! The story is basically a modern Romeo and Juliet love story. Max is an alien from another planet who is in love with a human girl named Liz. When he saves her life, both their lives and everyone elses dramatically changes. This book focuses on Max and LIz's love story but there are also other interesting characters like the other 2 aliens, Micheal and Isabel, and Liz's 2 friends Alex and Maria who all have their own stories unfolding. The first book is by far my favorite out of the series, but you have to read them all. Just to warn some people: it is a story about ALIENS but it mostly centers on the characters relationships with each other. I would steer clear if your a BIg SF fan.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book.......2004-10-31

Although meant for young adult readers, this book is a worthy read by adult standards as well. As a lover of Roswell the WB series, I was at first elated to discover that they were rooted in this wonderful series by Melinda Metz. After I read the series, however, I became apalled at what a mess the show writers made of the situations and characters involved. It is unfortunate that they lost their vision of who their characters were meant to be. Luckily, Metz never does.

5 out of 5 stars Shredderman - All Books in this Series.......2007-02-13

We absolutely loved these books. My son is almost 10 and we read them togehter, Although these are very easy reading for my son's age, we read them together because we enjoy them more that way. We both laugh out loud and really got into the stories. Often we ended up missing the absolute, latest possible bedtime curfew because we just HAD to read on! We would be very interested in other book by this author -- although it seems that her others are geared toward girl readers.

5 out of 5 stars Shredderman succeeds in turning reluctant readers into fans!.......2007-02-07

I am always trying to find books for my reluctant reader 9 year old. I found this book (actually the first in the series) on a list of "best books" created by kids. It is a winner! The level is good for 2nd to 4th grade.

5 out of 5 stars Hooray for the Underdog! .......2006-05-19

This is such a great series for boys aged 6-10 especially because it's an awkward time for them as they are growing and feeling sensitive about bullies. My seven year old has read books one and two and in the middle of book three. This series is based around a character named Nolan, who is a 3rd grade computer nerd. He is picked on daily and made fun of until one day he realizes that it doesn't take muscles and popularity to over-power these pests. He becomes an unlikely hero known as "Shredderman," who documents the work of bullies and brings them to justice. This series has lot's of comic mischief and displays a character who is genuinely a do-er of good deeds for all and a morally outstanding child. This series is perfect for intermediate readers, it is strewn with pictures in each chapter which helps if you have an easily frustrated or impatient reader. I think this series is fantastic because it makes it OK to not be the biggest or flashiest kid in class. You'll fall in love with Nolan because he's just an everyday kid who wants to do good in school, obey his parents, and not only doesn't let people beat him down, but prevents those bullies from cornering other victims. Yeah, Nolan! I'm root'en for you kid!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous series.......2005-11-29

This entire series (my 9 year old son has not yet read the 4th book) if terrific. The books are entertaining, humorous and fast paced. Nolan has problems that any elementary school boy might face - like being a nerd or facing a bully. Nolan handles his problems in a unique but clever way by using his computer geek skills. As a parent, I am thrilled with the moral lessons that can be found in each of these books - using brains is better than using force, your parents may not be as awful as you thought, all kids have the potential to be heroes, kids should strive for truth and justice... Buy this series for your kids. They will LOVE it - and so will you.
