Adults only, self important, disappointing........2007-06-03
My personal disappointments are these:
1. There are no warnings on the outside that this book is NOT suitable for underage readers.
2. Many of the authors seem smug.
3. I expect better commentary from this group of otherwise seemingly talented authors. What do I mean by "better"? How about something that is really about the Harry Potter series instead of what these authors wish it to have been?
4. How sad is it when the cover artwork far exceeds the book?
I've read a lot of Harry Potter "fan" books. This is the only one that brought less than ten minutes of enjoyment. If you want this book, you can have mine.
Excellent book for adults who think HP is not "just for kids".......2007-03-25
I am a college professor of english literature and composition, but I am also a huge Harry Potter fan. "Mapping the World of Harry Potter" appealed to both sides of my reading pleasure: it gave great insight into the HP books as well as providing really well-written and though-provoking literary analysis and criticism. I couldn't put the book down, and as I read each subsequent essay, I was more and more intrigued and it gave me so much to think about. Really fantastic!
Finally An Adult Take on This Series.......2007-03-13
Finally I found it. A book worth reading, with views offered by real intellects on this series. This book has been a great read and well worth the money spent on it. I find it fun and enlightening. Some of the chapters seemed to drag on but overall they are very good. I found the chapter on Neville Longbottom great, since I completely share the sentiment felt for this character. A lot of thought provoking ideas in here. BE WARNED that there is a chapter on the sex symbol that has become of Severus Snape...this chapter and book are intended for adults. Overall really great!
Awesome!.......2007-03-11
I was really thrilled to get this book, seeing as it is a more serious treatment of the Harry Potter stories. Glad to see that other authors are taking Rowling seriously!
Disappointed but probably my fault.......2007-01-10
I was disappointed in this book, but I think it was probably my fault. I actually thought it was by Mercedes Lackey, not edited by Mercedes Lackey. And it was actually a collection of essays by various people. Boring essays. By people I don't read.

A Good Read For Lovers Of Classic Monster Movies........2006-01-24
If you love these old movies as much as I do,and are interested in the story of how they came about, script development, etc.,then this book is for you! Did you know that in the earlier drafts, the Lon Chaney character was named Larry GILL and was no relation to the Talbot family? I didn't,until I read this book. This, along with more tidbits of interest make for a very informative and great read. I would however prefer that they didn't go into such detail about the folklore of werewolves, and stayed more on the subject of the movie. They also needn't print so many of the posters advertising the film,as a few should have been sufficient. Other than that,I would definitely recommend it.
archive magic.......1999-12-07
One of the best horror films ever made and truly deserving the acolade classic. The book brings to light all the infomation any film buff would need to satisfy their thist for behind the scenes details. From the eary concepts to final shooting schedule, how the orginal makeup designs were brought about to interveiws with cast members and the man who actually wrote the script.Great behind the scences photographs from the great Jack P. Pierce's lost scrap books (when is Douglas Norwine going to publish that book about Pierce)to the orginal film score, an absolute delight to read and treasure.

Famous & Forgotten Westerns Briefly Profiled Here.......2003-04-21
This 219 page book (thankfully with an index) has 1-3 black & white photos from about 75 westerns. Each show gets a 2-3 paragraph summary, even westerns that were only on for a couple of months. Westerns from the early 50s to the 90s (Brisco county Jr) are profiled. This book best serves someone who enjoyed more than a couple of the westerns because all the shows are covered very briefly, thus, a big fan of just 1-2 would be let down. I saw this rare book once at a national chain in '95, thankfully bought it, and have never seen it in stock again. Online auction sites great sources of episodes from many 50s-60s westerns.

Customer Reviews:
Fans finally see how A&C Meet Frankenstein is created........2003-04-12
For years. The fans of Abbott & Costello wanted to find out how their most famous film parody of horror movies"Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein!"came about.A few books have come to light in recent years:"Movie Comedy Teams"by Leonard Maltin,"The Abbott & Costello Book"By Jim Mullholland and:"Abbott & Costello In Hollywood!"by Ron Palumbo & Bob Furnemack.Now..As a companion to These three manuscripts is the paperback edition of the film's script.Film historian Phil Riley has found an early draft of the script that shows us all scenes and dialogue that never appeared in the final release print:"Oh Oh! And Up Pops The Devil","You're not going to leave me with all of this work"."You're not suppose to throw away all of that fat wasite".etc in terms of the film's dialogue. There is one scene that was never used in the film and sadly. It prohibieted Poor Lou from using his improvational skills as a true movie clown. The scene has "Dracula"(Bela Lugosi)using his hyponotic powers to lure poor"Wilber Brown"(Costello)back into the castle for the brain transplaint.Lou keeps trying to run away. But the power of the evil vampire's spell is so strong that he is constantly being pulled back into the castle via the cave entrance. He finds a rock and sits there."Dracula"(Bela) by now is getting madder than hell! And he says to "Wilber"(Lou)"I Said Come Back!"."Wilber Brown"sits on the rock and says"'No! I'm sitting right here and I'm not going back!".Until both Lou and the rock are zipped back into the cave and into the evil clutches of "Dracula"(Bele Lugosi) and "Dr.Sandra Morney"(Lenore Aubert). The book also shows some photos from the film and some wonderful behind the scenes candid pictures from the cast members, the film's director(Charlie Barton),The film's producer(Bob Arthur)and Dialogue Director(Norman Abbott..Bud's newphew)and the members of the Abbott & Costello families. There are also some thoughts about the making of the film from the team's family members and the true story of how this classic parody was conceived and filmed by the book's author:Mr.Riley.For fans of horror movies and for fans of classic comedy movies. This is one book to have in your collection.Bravo Phil! Kevin S.Butler.
Magicimage Filmbooks Presents Abbott and Costello Meet Frank.......2001-08-04
This is a great treasure for Abbott and Costello fans as well as Chaney, Lugosi, or Universal fans. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book. The script is still titled "The Brain of Frankenstein" and includes deleted scenes which further add to the story. As someone who has seen the film many times the added info gives new insights as to the characters performances.
comic duo's best film........1999-12-06
Classic horror film stars meet legendery comic duo make for great film and great book. behind the scenes info with rare photographs and insight into the relationships with all protagonist's. Also critic's reviews and posters and billboards from the orginal time of film's release.

A look into the best of the Universal Monster rallies........2004-11-09
Produced near the end of the Classic Horror era (and near the end of World War II), HOUSE OF DRACULA provides an entertaining storyline populated by the top three Universal Monsters: Count Dracula, the Wolf Man, and the Frankenstein Monster, in their last all-out horror venture before co-starring with Abbott and Costello for their final film appearances.
Within this thoroughly-researched filmbook lies an informative production background, a comprehensive look at the script's evolution (including a shot--but deleted--scene of the doctor healing a youthful patient), a wonderful narrative synopsis by film historian Gregory Mank, an introduction by star John Carradine, an exclusive interview with star Jane Adams, and much much more.
A nice addition to anyone's collection of Classic Horror memorabilia, the HOUSE OF DRACULA filmbook, like the movie itself, has something for just about everyone. Scary fun!
Customer Reviews:
An In-depth look at a Universal classic.......2007-01-17
Just got my copy today, and wow, what a gem. The pictures, the behind-the-scenes stories and the script are all wonderful. Goes into details about each of the cast members and has tons of pictures, many of them i've never seen before! Included at the end is a "press book" originally given out at the theaters when the film was first released. Learn the fascinating facts behind the "lost" scenes in which the Frankenstein monster was supposed to SPEAK! Screenwriter Curt Siodmak was a true legend and his contribution to the Wolf Man and Universal's legacy is un-matched. Did you know Curt wrote the famous poem for the Wolf Man "...even a man who is pure at heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the Wolf Bane blooms, and the Autumn moon is bright". Anyone who loves classic horror will love this book. Filled with fascinating facts, photos and much more...a real treat!
The Monster speaks again..... at last!!!.......2004-11-05
FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN is best remembered today not only because it is the first of its genre (the crossover, still utilized today with films such as Alien Vs. Predator and Freddy Vs. Jason), but also because of a peculiar and maddening bit of editing: As originally shot, the Frankenstein Monster (as played by Bela Lugosi) was to be portrayed here as a weak, blind creature speaking eloquent dialogue (in Ygor's voice), the result of a clever plot twist from the previous feature, THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN.
Within this book is the true reason why Lugosi's lines were deleted, as well as some interesting behind-the-scenes information, extremely rare stills (particularly of the deleted scenes), cast bios, the pressbook, and Curt Siodmak's original shooting script, which includes the Monster's long-sought dialogue in its entirety!
A source of lasting enjoyment for all Classic Universal Monster fans, especially those seeking a "completed" version of FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN. Highly recommended!
Finally an explanation!!.......2002-01-24
It's fantastic that we finally here the dialog of the monster that was cut out of the picture. Bela Lugosi played the monster in the film. Why was it cut out? The explanation makes no sense since Bela voiced the monster in the final scenes of the previous film. It worked then so why not with this film? The hacking of this script ruined this film. It would have been a much better movie if they left the dialog in. It explains so much.
This a great book for those who are fans of the movie and the Universal monsters. In fact, it's a must!
Magicimage Filmbooks presents:Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman.......2001-08-04
Another in the great series of Universal Filmscripts. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book. The background also tells about Lugosi's dialogue being cut out and what some of it was. It also explains the ending and the escape of Massey, Knowles, and Ouspenskaya (which is not shown in the film). It is a shame that production of these filmscripts didn't cover ALL of the Universal Horror Movies because of the detailed background of each.

Turn off the Force Field, this is a Great LIS Book!.......1998-07-18
This is probably the best LIS book ever put together (not saying much since there is a lot of junk out there. The trivia questions and background tidbits are fascinating. Written by fans, for fans. Photos are so-so. But if, like me, you can recite whole sections of dialoge from the show by heart, and you love all aspects of the show--the sci fi, the comedy, the bloopers, everything, this is the must-buy book. Buy the bigger, more expensive one, it just looks cooler. : >

Is amazing the extreme carefull with the information!.......1998-04-28
No need many words! The book is simply fantastic! I love the shape, the size and I'm very surprise with the informations' quantity. Thanks to the citation to our homepage in the book and for the joke saying "Don't worry - it's in English:..." However I must to say that you make a mistake with our url to Lost In Space Brazil. It's not so important now. Really is that the book is so good that I buied another to give to my brother. Sucess and Best Wishes to the authors.
