Book Description
Molecular Biology of the Cell is the classic in-depth text reference in cell biology. By extracting the fundamental concepts from this enormous and ever-growing field, the authors tell the story of cell biology, and create a coherent framework through which non-expert readers may approach the subject. Written in clear and concise language, and beautifully illustrated, the book is enjoyable to read, and it provides a clear sense of the excitement of modern biology. Molecular Biology of the Cell sets forth the current understanding of cell biology (completely updated as of Autumn 2001), and it explores the intriguing implications and possibilities of the great deal that remains unknown.
The hallmark features of previous editions continue in the Fourth Edition. The book is designed with a clean and open, single-column layout. The art program maintains a completely consistent format and style, and includes over 1,600 photographs, electron micrographs, and original drawings by the authors. Clear and concise concept headings introduce each section. Every chapter contains extensive references. Most important, every chapter has been subjected to a rigorous, collaborative revision process where, in addition to incorporating comments from expert reviewers, each co-author reads and reviews the other authors' prose. The result is a truly integrated work with a single authorial voice.

the book is amazing. i got it in great shape, and aside from it weighing 7 lbs...it's a great book for a biology class.
Best Science Book I've Ever Read.......2007-07-09
If you are taking a cell biology book, this is the book to read. Even if your instructor assigns a lighter book, you can still read this and benefit. It's one of those rare books that go into the details while still being readible. It's incredibly well organized and well written.
A thousand carats text!.......2007-06-27
The undeniable importance of the molecular biology has achieved in the last two decades such transcendental outburst of energy, advances and extraordinary finfings that hardly we should devote entirely to be informed about the multiple consequences of its profound implications.
This book is a true effort worthy to admire, because it has been written with this kind spirit of sharing the knowledge wothout pretensions or any other considerations.
Once you open it, you will be absoltely engaged due its relevant interest, because of the fact there`s a lot of secondnary readings and discoveries all over the world that it should be be stated of this way. May one not being aware about the structure of the cell and the mesmerizing devices the nature employs to show us its lavish dynamics.
Additionally the support material of this CD ROM simply is priceless. I insist, you don't need to be an expert in this issue to start.
Decide by yourself and please, dont wait so long.
Molecurar biology of the cell.......2007-05-18
It's a very complete and updated book about all items refered to molecular biology of the cell. I specially use it for all the information I need for the 1st year of Medicine School.
Very recomendable

It really gets you into the bioscientific mind type of reasoning.
Amazon.com Audiobook Review
We're constantly negotiating in our lives, whether it's convincing the kids to do their homework or settling million-dollar lawsuits. For those who need help winning these battles, Roger Fisher has developed a simple and straightforward five-step system for how to behave in negotiations. Narrated soothingly by NPR announcer Bob Edwards, Fisher adds the meaty portions of the material with a sense of playfulness. The blend of voices makes this tape easy to listen to, especially the real-life negotiating scenarios, in which negotiating examples are given. This is a must-have tape for every businessperson's car. (Running time: one hour, one cassette) --Sharon Griggins
Book Description
Getting to Yes is a straightorward, universally applicable method for negotiating personal and professional disputes without getting taken -- and without getting angry.
It offers a concise, step-by-step, proven strategy for coming to mutually acceptable agreements in every sort of conflict -- whether it involves parents and children, neighbors, bosses and employees, customers or corporations, tenants or diplomats. Based on the work of Harvard Negotiation Project, a group that deal continually with all levels of negotiations and conflict resolutions from domestic to business to international, Getting to Yes tells you how to:
- Separate the people from the problem
- Focus on interests, not positions
- Work together to create opinions that will satisfy both parties
- negotiate successfully with people who are more powerful, refuse to play by the rules, or resort to "dirty tricks"

I was better off buying the book from the regualr store. The book cost me more due to S/H.
A positive-sum game.......2007-09-02
Despite the common perception, negotiation is not about winning, it's about coming up with a resolution which benefits both sides. In order to develop such an agreement you have to be willing to listen, and to understand the opposing side on both the personal and business levels. 'Getting to Yes' teaches us how to develop these skills. From personal issues, to tactics, to psychological tricks, to best alternative (BATNA) analysis, Roger Fisher covers a lot of ground in this classic. The book is short and to the point, and serves as a great launchpad for further research in the area.
The Godfather of all Negotiation.......2007-08-27
I have purchased the unabridged audio versions to save time. Harvard developed principled negotiation which causes an unsurpassable system for negotiation. This is the book everyone should read if there's only one book in the world on negotiation! Nearly one hundred raving five star reviews from readers, lawyers, business people, professionals, students, teachers, and negotiators can't be wrong.
Yes, this is a "must read".......2007-08-19
Reviewing a book 15 years after its publication might seem a bit pointless. But that depends on the book. In this case, we're talking about a book that has near cult status in the business community.
Over the past 15 years, this book has been referred to and revered in thousands--if not millions--of articles, seminars, college course, and training programs. In fact, as of the date of this review over 100 published books cite Getting to Yes.
If you're in business and haven't read this book, you are operating with less than full power. But the book has value well beyond the business world. If you've ever had a disagreement end in a way that left you or the other party feeling cheated or manipulated, that ending probably came about because you were either bargaining about position or confusing the people with the problem. Either strategy guarantees at least one loser. Unfortunately, most disagreements follow one or both of these losing strategies.
With discipline and practice, you can apply the knowledge in this book so that you:
* Preserve relationships without giving in (go along to get along).
* Can satisfy the interests of both parties.
* Ensure both parties are motivated to uphold their end of the bargain.
* Feel good about the agreement reached and the people who reached it.
The strategies have nothing to do with tricking other people or playing games. The strategies have everything to do with respecting other people and refusing to play games.
In the publishing world, "thud factor" is a major consideration. Many readers expect filler, in the form of anecdotes and stories (as if they want the author to assume they are too daft to understand assertions made directly in plain English). Getting to Yes is 200 pages long, with the last 50 pages or so being basically a review and a "Cliff Notes" of the first 150. So, you have the book followed by a summary of the book. What you don't have is 150 pages stretched to 300 pages with stories that a busy executive would rather skip.
The concise writing is a huge plus to many people, but some reviewers see it as a minus. So, you may also read reviews saying that other books are "better" because they are thicker.
I have two proposed solutions to that:
1. Read the first 150 pages of Getting to Yes twice. This will equal 300 pages.
2. Read the book, then practice it. Take 150 pages of notes regarding your experiences. You now have the stories and filler you wanted.
The authors wrote this book not to entertain, but to educate. It gets to the point. There is no obfuscation, meandering, or distraction. That same communication style is required in a negotiation. The occasional anecdote may be helpful, but to lead a negotiation to a successful conclusion you must focus on the real issues. That is what this book does. And that's why it's a classic in the classroom and in the boardroom, and in executive suites and staterooms throughout the world.
Be sure to read Getting Past No and The Power of a Positive No, as well.
Read This Book First.......2007-08-14
Whatever you do in life this book should be your second bible! It is a short easy read, and will help you deal with every person-to-person interaction in your life. That includes your family life, your social life, and your working life. I am a professional negotiator who has read many other books (some very good and some not so good), and also walked-the-walk in real-life. I keep a copy of this on my night table and still glance through it regularly.
Book Description
Through five editions, Managerial Economics has been among the leading texts in the field. Maintaining its hallmark clarity, abundant use of real-world examples and cases, and strong coverage of international issues and technological change, the Sixth Edition has been rigorously updated and revised, adding six entirely new chapters and an innovative student Web site.

Managerial Economics Text book.......2006-11-03
It was the text book of this course.
It's not really needed to buy it to catch up with this course,
but this book has good samples and cases to read.
hip business economics.......2006-05-16
This is not your average dry and boring managerial economics book. The writing is great, it covers all the major topics, and there are plenty of real life applications. THIS BOOK ROCKS.
A new age economics book.......2005-11-01
This book is leaps and bounds more impressive than most managerial economics books. The newest concepts in economics like auctions, moral hazard, sophisticated pricing and adverse selection are given full chapter treatments. Not only do the authors clearly explain these concepts, but they show how they are applied in the business world.
I was also impressed with their revised game theory chapter. Instead of the usual dry mathematical treatment, the chapter uses game theory to illustrate the importance of strategic principles. I found the chapter more helpful than any other treatment on game theory.
The authors are professors at The Wharton School and use the book in their class. I can see why Wharton is a top ranked business school. Their students definitely have an advantage in learning from this book.
Wharton Rules.......2005-09-08
My first reason to buy this book is that i always felt a lack of knoledge in general economics, than you must consider the autors. Its easy to read and interesting. Full of examples and written in a way that teach you.
For me its one of the best books i ever read.
I love it.
A significant improvement.......2005-03-14
I reviewed the 5th edition of this book and thought it was good. This sixth edition is significantly better and in my view is the top book in managerial economics. The authors are from the Wharton School of Business, one of the top ranked business schools in the world. They have designed the book to show the reader how to apply various concepts to real world applications.
In this edition, the authors have completely revised the chapters on pricing. The book covers both simple and sophisticated pricing models. The chapter on sophisticated pricing models (e.g., two part tariffs, bundling, price discrimination) is terrific and useful to both students and managers.
Other improvements include a brand new chapter on game theory and a new chapter on adverse selection. The chapter on game theory is well written and clearly illustrates important strategic principles. I tip my hat to the authors for providing the reader with a clear understanding of how the theory works and why it is important. The chapter on adverse selection is also well written.
I have looked at several books because I am trying to choose one for the course I teach. After reading this book I look no more. This is the best book for those who really want to understand how to use economics in the business world.

We've all been there: We know we must confront a coworker, store clerk, or friend about some especially sticky situation--and we know the encounter will be uncomfortable. So we repeatedly mull it over until we can no longer put it off, and then finally stumble through the confrontation. Difficult Conversations, by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen, offers advice for handling these unpleasant exchanges in a manner that accomplishes their objective and diminishes the possibility that anyone will be needlessly hurt. The authors, associated with Harvard Law School and the Harvard Project on Negotiation, show how such dialogues actually comprise three separate components: the "what happened" conversation (verbalizing what we believe really was said and done), the "feelings" conversation (communicating and acknowledging each party's emotional impact), and the "identity" conversation (expressing the situation's underlying personal meaning). The explanations and suggested improvements are, admittedly, somewhat complicated. And they certainly don't guarantee positive results. But if you honestly are interested in elevating your communication skills, this book will walk you through both mistakes and remedies in a way that will boost your confidence when such unavoidable clashes arise. --Howard Rothman

"What is a difficult conversation? Asking for a raise. Ending a relationship. Saying ""no"" to your boss or spouse. Confronting disrespectful behavior. Apologizing. Conversations we dread, and often handle clumsily as a result, are part of all our lives: in boardrooms and family rooms, across the negotiation table and the dinner table. Now, Difficult Conversations teaches us how to handle these dialogues with more success and less anxiety. How does it work? Based on fifteen years of research and consultations with thousands of people, Difficult Conversations pinpoints what works. The authors discovered that regardless of context, the same small but crucial errors are what trip us up--and a few key adjustments can make all the difference. * The role of emotions--ours and theirs * The impact of what is said and what is not said * Why admitting our mistakes will put us in a stronger position * The truth behind the myth that women are better at expressing their emotions than men * How to respond productively in the face of personal attacks Who is this for? Filled with examples from everyday life, Difficult Conversations is certain to be an instant and lasting classic for families, neighbors, bosses, employees, customers, tenants, landlords, psychologists, teachers, and more. Who are the authors? Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen teach at Harvard Law School and at the Harvard Negotiation Project. They have consulted to countless businesspeople, governments, organizations, and communities including all parties to the negotiations on constitutional transition in South Africa; school teachers in Medellin, Colombia; and community leaders and the police department in Springfield, Massachusetts. They lecture throughout the world and have written on negotiation, conflict resolution, and communication. Bruce Patton is co-author of Getting to Yes."
Customer Reviews:
Will you ever have a hard conversation? Sure, you will! Read this book first........2007-09-21
This little book can be a great help. We all have avoided conversations we knew were going to be difficult. Often not talking made things worse, so as things became intolerable we had the discussion and things got even worse. These authors break down the inner structure of difficult conversations and how we often mishandle them. They then show us the ways in which we can turn this into a constructive process that brings more understanding, greater cooperation, and learning that will help avoid repeating the difficulties in the future.
Certainly, I can't recap the whole book in this little review, but I especially like their concept of three conversations happening within each difficult conversation. They are the debate over what happened, the feelings conversation, and the identity issues. In the what happened conversation the problem is that each side assumes it knows the truth, that they know the other party's intentions, and that they know where and how to assign blame. Of course, all this is a fiction and a waste of time. It does nothing to fix the situation or improve the process to avoid the problem in the future. The book then shows you how to have a constructive approach to the same problem. Excellent stuff!
The authors are part of the Harvard Negotiation Project and has a foreword by one of the authors of the famous book, "Getting to Yes". The book is concise, but full of very good information. I recommend it very much.

Best Book on Communication.......2007-08-24
This is the most useful and comprehensive compendium of effective, research validated, communication concepts I have ever seen in one book. Useful for anyone who speaks with other humans, especially significant others, business colleagues and teenagers. If you are a coach, this reading is required. Difficult ideas presented in a way that makes them easy to understand and easy to apply.
Quality of Life Must Read.......2007-08-04
Difficult Conversations, by Stone, Patton, and Heen, is a foundational book in the literature of holding difficult conversations in purposeful ways. I have read it often and use its principles in my teaching and in daily life. Underlying its principles is the simple understanding that we can get better at listening, talking, and acknowledging what is actually going on in our relationships; that we create the reality of our lives by the ways in which we talk about it; and that one conversation at a time, we can choose to work with the energy of conflict instead of avoiding it. There are many good books on this topic. I suggest reading them all, starting here.

Fantastic textbook.......2007-09-01
I used this textbook for my AP (high school but college-level) Chemistry course, and found it to be delightfully clear and simple reading. Everything is explained to be perfectly understandable, and after simply reading the book through and doing the exercise problems (as assigned by my teacher), I found the actual AP exam to be literally one of the easiest tests I have ever taken in my life.
Actually, in fact, I barely paid any attention in class; I simply read this book and paid half-attention in class, and simply by reading this book throughly, I was one of the best students in the class.
It is clear why my teacher said she selected this book as the best she had seen.
The best........2007-05-23
I definitely love to learn, but it's always a pain when the book is poorly written, this is not the case with The Central Science by Theodore Brown. I thank you and your team for writing an awesome book that students can understand. I will definitely recommend this book, and I actually want to convince the chemistry dept. at my school to change their textbook ;) Simply the best, thanks!
edit: I have been reading many of the comments left by other users saying this book is not for beginners ... and it's true. I suggest you take the class seriously and read this book thoroughly and do all the red exercises, especially the additional and integrative exercises. If you can do these exercises, I promise you'll do fine.
Excellent textbook.......2007-01-17
I am currently taking an AP chemistry course in high school and this book is really great. It explains the topics in good detail, but sticks to the point and doesn't start talking about some other topic. The explanations are really thorough and they have some really good 3-D images that help you visualize molecules better (this is useful especially for molecular bonding). Another great feature of this book is the summary they give at the end of each chapter and the numerous sample problems with FULL EXPLANATIONS for each step you take. Unlike other chemistry books that are vague and confusing, this textbook is able to thoroughly explain subjects without all the confusing terms that you'll find in other chemistry books.
Excellent Text.......2006-07-06
I used this book in my General Chem I class a couple of years back and have since used it as a resource for my organic, biochem classes and MCAT review. The book was very easy to read compared to others and the examples were straight forward and easy to follow. The authors also attempted to include scientific/medical relevance to some of the issues covered. The most difficult chapter in the book to read is quantum theory; however, this topic is typically difficult for anyone to understand at first.
This book will be going to medical school with me this fall for sure.
Helpful.......2006-03-01
This book has been a big help to me as a reference source to fall back on. especially the CD that came with it. This book covers everything from thermo chemistry to organic chemistry. The website is somewhat insightful as well.

The actual textbook is a great reference and has detailed derivations. This study guide helps to clear up any inconsistencies between variables and concepts. The solved problems are a great help for homework and give a wholesome understanding of the material. I recommend buying this book.

The textbook is pretty good. Nothing spectacular but its good. Each chapter has some interesting history facts about fluid mechanics. Most of the example problems are helpful.
Very Helpful!.......2007-09-16
Great to use along with the book. Very helpful in figuring out homework problems as well as studying for tests!
Big Joke.......2006-10-06
Beware! This book is no serious science book, it's no more than a paper-incarnation of a big poor joke..
Unfortunately, it's the textbook being used in my fluid dynamics class and I had to buy this one. But if you have a choice, pick "Fluid Mechanics, Third Edition (Hardcover) by Ira M. Cohen (Author), Pijush K. Kundu (Author)"! It is easily understandable and nice to read and covers all important concepts and equations in a reasonable form!!
In contrast, this book by Bruce R. Munson does not even derive the heart of fluid dynamics, the Navier Stokes equation in general (just a washed down version in one coordinate system, written in components), nor does it derive the Bernoulli equation in an appropriate way to emphasize the restrictions and applicability.. Also, almost every equation is given in components, not utilizing vector (or tensor) notation... This hides the beauty and natural look of the equations and makes it just worse to read..
Overall, this is a really bad book, stay away from it!
The most incomplete engineering book ever........2006-02-07
It's a good book it just askes me as a student to assume too much. Some of the problems at the end of the chapters are incomplete.
If i was to go about my life as a ME assuming random stuff i would get sued to a point of non-existance. This book does not teach good engineering practices.

Shipping problems.......2007-10-01
I trusted that Amazon would get my daughter her books on time for school
but, the books were five days or more in being delivered to the wrong address. DHL was contacted and told that they had delivered the books to the wrong address and they refused to go back and pick them up. The gentleman that got the book had to drive them to my daughter house after work one night. By the time that was done I had bought books from the school so my daughter wouldn't fall behind in school. This is only a few hundred dollars every six months Amazon has lost so I'm sure it's not a big deal but I did want you to know what happen to me and probably countless others who didn't bother to write you and just decided to go another route.
Great starter!.......2007-05-31
The book helped me a lot. I never had general biology before taking the exam. For best use, I read "Biology: Life on Earth" to give an overview of the topic and the major mechanisms behind it. Then, I used other textbooks which had much more details on the subject. This method worked well, for example, for DNA replication and Protein Synthesis on which "Biology: Life on Earth" seems to have left out some information. So this is a great biology "starter" and if you decide/need to know more, other in-depth textbooks will be helpful.
Bio Text book.......2006-11-10
The first book I received had about 25 pages that were defective but that was quickly replaced with a new one. I really wish I did not have to buy it but since I did, the book was OK as far as a text book goes.
Wonderful Product!.......2005-09-22
This is a good book for studying biology and would recommend it. The price was exceptionally low as well.
Book for high school, not worth the money.......2005-01-21
This book goes into explaining Hardy-Weinberg principle and doesn't even have the equation for it! Nor does it mention two important words in the same chapter - dominant and recessive. If you want to look at pictures of animals and read over-simplified explanations then buy it. If your are looking for a scholarly book, then I would suggest to look elsewhere.
Average customer rating:
- Interesting but not what I expected
- This book could change your world

Interesting but not what I expected.......2007-09-14
This is more like an encyclopedia than "a users guide for the 21st century". The hefty volume includes hundreds of short topical articles on lots of different things but doesn't go into a lot of detail on any. I was hoping for more practical examples of things I could do to survive in a changing world but was disappointed. For example, there is a section on Green Rooftops. You would think that a "users guide" might give you practical advice on creating one. Instead it talks about how they are great for saving energy and creating gardens. Okay... I get that and I agree but maybe a little more info please?
All and all the writing is good and it does cover a lot of topics I just think that the description when buying it leads one to believe there is a bit more depth than there actually is.
This book could change your world.......2007-08-29
This publication is worth it's weight in something quite valuable. It provides a mass of information on all sorts of subjects relating to changing your outlook and how to live within the planets available resources. It has some surprisingly useful tips on things like how to make a small apartment look and feel big by using great space saving ideas; how to use less of the planets scarce resources in many ways.
My only beef is that it looks like a self published volume and so lacks gravitas somehow. For example it does not have any information on the inner fly page about the book, such as year of publication, publisher, ISBN Number, and other essential info. Another problem I found was actually finding some of the reference works in the text. Not enough info to enable the reader to trace sources adequately.
I found it very difficult for example to find the publisher of one work I was interested in. Google hadn't even heard of the publisher. I did find them and the book eventually but had to try very hard and boy, was it obscure.
Even though the jacket and outer are quite attractive, they reek of self-publishing. This is not good for the image of a book on such an important subject.
Sorry chaps, only 6 out of 10 from me.
Good reference.......2007-07-15
Some info is out of date and biased, ie article on Vancouver (my home town). Lots is covered, not in much depth but there are lots of references for further reading. Would be a great addition to everyone's reference section.
brilliant!.......2007-07-12
For a "users guide" I actually expected something more "portable"... its brilliant in its content and design!!
A smart and inclusive book, really recommendable! .......2007-07-03
The book contains small articles about everything between heaven and earth all within the envionmental scope of interest. You find your self reading it, flipping through the pages wanting more info...A fun concept between an excellent encyclopedia, interesting facts book and a nice coffee table book. Only con might be the size, making it a bit bulky to read for more than a short while...
Book Description
The CPA exam is changing. You need to change as well...to a book that better prepares you for the CPA exam and for business. This is the only book of its kind that demonstrates how to prepare financial reports and then how to analyze what those numbers really mean.
Every manager has incentives to present his or her firm in the most favorable light to lenders, equity investors and others. And, every manager wants to use the flexibility allowed by GAAP to manage the firm's earnings to achieve certain goals. Revsine, Collins, and Johnson
explain these incentives and help readers spot cases of earnings management, which disguises a firm's true performance.
For anyone preparing to take the CPA exam, and for anyone who wants or needs a working knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and financial statement analysis.

Almost everything I dislike in a textbook.......2006-05-08
This book has many characteristics that I really dislike to see in a textbook.
First, the authors flooded almost every page with extraneous information. When you're learning this stuff, you want it to be explained simply and clearly - but the authors seem more intent on showing you how much they know about some topic, even when that information is tangenital and not very helpful.
They don't word things clearly. They'll call the same thing by two different names - (i.e. "Pension Cost" and "Pension Expense") which needlessly adds to the confusion. They'll discuss some topic for several pages without even writing down the basic, relevant journal entry.
One of the wordiest, most poorly written accounting books I have ever had the displeasure of studying from.
One of the better books available.......2003-09-30
This publication provides a thorough and comprehensive review of almost every important aspect of accounting, financial analytics and reporting. A useful tool for a person new to finance or someone needing a refresh or review of important topics. A solutions manual would have been helpful, but the book is a valuable buy nonetheless.
Very good for understanding the subject.......2002-03-10
The book provides very clear explanations about different aspects of financial statement analysis. The only drawbacks are that the book is a little simplistic and that problem solutions are sorely needed. However, I am sure you are not going to use oit for self-study- you would be using it as a textbook in a financial statement analysis class. The professor, would be able to provide you with solutions (as in my case- thanks Dr. Church!) and will also help you out with some of the tougher stuff. Whatever, the book does an excellent job in explaining the basic stuff- much better than the Sondhi book.
agree with others - needs solutions manual - useless without.......2001-09-27
I agree with those that say this book would be more useful if it came with solutions. Right off in the first chapter, hypothetical situations are presented without any background information in the text. If you haven't had some experience in Accounting, you are going to be left scratching your head. The instructor in my class says that it causes you to think. Hard to think if you have never come close to experiencing anything that is being discussed. Some guidance would be helpful.
Useless without a Solutions Manual.......2001-03-23
I'm studying for the CPA. I bought the book because it's required for a course in school. But to actually learn for the CPA exam, I'll toss this one aside for one that provides a solutions manual. Authors who withold the manual for the instructors benefit miss a fundamental point about economics - who the customer is. It's the student that the book is written for and it is the student who pays for the course. Breffni University of Chicago

Book Description
Essential Cell Biology, Second Edition contains basic, core knowledge about how cells work. It has a proven track record in providing students with a conceptual and accessible grounding in cell biology. The text and figures have been prepared to be easy-to-follow, accurate, clear and engaging for the introductory student. Each section follows logically from the previous one, telling a story, rather than being a collection of facts. Questions integrated throughout each chapter encourage the reader to pause, think about what they have read, and attempt to apply the new knowledge in ways that test their understanding. Based on user feedback, the Second Edition now offers increased coverage of genetics and more experimental background. It is completely up-to-date.

Mwentzler.......2007-09-27
Is an read easy and understandable read. Explains all topics very thoroughly yet in a clear concise manner especially for a biology text book.
Very good book.......2007-09-24
It's kind of hard to judge a textbook, especially when you're a student. But i can honestly say that this book is very straight forward. The diagrams are great, and especially if you read the diagrams as you're reading the book, they add a lot of depth and diversity to the reading. The text itself is not mundane...you won't fall asleep reading it. The CD it comes with is nice....but i tend not to use it that much...all it is, is just video clips. Overall i'd say this is one of the best, if not THE best, biology book i've used.
HOWEVER! Remember that this IS a bio book and it DOES get a little tedious at points
Cell Biology made clear.......2007-03-08
Great book. Although not a basic book, this text make many aspects of cell biology very clear. I would highly recommend it.
Essential Cell Biology 2nd Ed........2006-11-06
This is probably one of the best cell biology books out there. It's easy to understand, covers all the basics, and the CD included with it has really helpful videos.
Fine book, for whatever it matters.......2006-02-28
The book is decent. To be honest though, reviewing textbooks is kind of funny. Does it matter what I say? I suppose if you're ordering this book because you honestly just have a burning desire to learn about essential cell biology, well... the more power to you. You'll learn it just fine from this book. If you're just buying the book because it's the required text for your college class (like I expect), well yeah, doesn't really matter what I say, does it?
