Part Peter Rabbit, part Velveteen Rabbit, Jeremy is a gentle little tale of a handmade bunny with honesty sewn right in. Lovingly crafted by a young woman in England, Jeremy knows he is destined for America. But rather than be shipped off in a cardboard box, he decides to make the journey himself. With the help of a lonely old man named Mr. Pruneholt, a sea captain and his noisy parrot, and a sweet but slightly barmy old woman called the Village Dear, Jeremy makes his way across the sea and into North Carolina. Along the way he dodges grabby children, a hungry fox, and finds an unlikely friend in an owl. Written as a kind of allegory for a favorite psalm of the author's, the tale is also a mini-Odyssey, complete with a sea crossing, beastly obstacles, and the promise of home at the end of the peregrinations.
Jan Karon is the author of the bestselling Mitford Years series, including At Home in Mitford. Teri Weidner's adorable depictions of plaid-trousered Jeremy and his friends and foes are sure to appeal to children from England to North Carolina and beyond. (Ages 7 to 10) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
When it is time for Jeremy, a handmade English bunny, to be sent to his true home in America, he refuses to be shipped in a box. So he sets out to deliver himself to the little girl who eagerly awaits him. Jeremy's journey begins with a prayer and some handy words of advice from his maker. Along the way he encounters friends in many forms, and all the adventures he has lead him, eventually, to his final destination-home.
Illustrated by Teri Weidner.

jan karon has done a great job with the children's books.
Jeremy: Tale of an Honest Bunny.......2007-01-10
A must for school libraries, an excellent lesson on morals.
Not that impressed.......2004-12-10
I love books. I love children's books and love reading to my grandchildren. I must say that I was not all that impressed with this book. The physical look of the book is gorgeous. It is a high quality hardback with adorable, charming pictures. But I just couldn't get into the story line. I certainly don't see it in the same category as classics like Peter Rabbit and the Velveteen Rabbit. I bought it to read to my four and five year old grandchildren. I just can't see them sitting still for that whole story. I couldn't even get through it in one sitting myself. I think it is too long for a reading session for children who can't read yet and I don't think it would hold the interest of children old enough to read for themselves, so I'm not sure what the target age would be. I am obviously in the minority with this opinion, but as one who has read tons of books to my own children, as a substitute teacher and now as a Grandma;I think my opinion should carry some weight.
The cutest book!.......2003-02-15
Even though this book is easy, it is so cute! This is the only book I can find that is good for bunny lovers(like me). Just go to the library or buy this book and read it. It makes great before bed stories!
Jeremy definitely a come-back bunny.......2002-02-19
Jan Karon's tale of bunny adventure has stood the test of time in our household. The story of Jeremy, the English bunny sent with silver buttons to America, protected by Biblical verse and by the likes of Charles Benchley Owl, this was a fun first read for all. Now, left on a handy table, we're finding some of the lines getting a reprise -- "Don't take carrots from strangers" -- while the unusual depth of Teri Weidner's illustrations draws the reader back for second and more close looks. All of the art fits the tone and sense of the book. The full-page work is particularly entrancing. This bunny honestly provides repreated pleasure.

Loved this book.......2007-10-03
I've read it several times and I never get tired of it. It's a great story and well written. The characters are well developed and the entire book goes at a great pace.
wow.......2007-03-04
oh my gosh, this was so good. I think this was one of her best work. Along with (Carolina Moon, Hidden riches, Private scandals, river's end and The reef)
Spectacular!!.......2007-02-09
Could I have given this book more than 5 stars, I would have. When I began to read it and realize it was about magic and thievery, I rolled my eyes and decided to read it anyway. Who could imagine the main male character, the hero, being a thief and a magician? Well, as it turned out, it was one of the most entertaining books I've ever read. I absolutely loved the romance between Luke and Roxy and, in fact, think I fell a little in love with Luke myself. Roxy was also a very likeable character as was Max, Lily and the rest of their entourage. A fun, exciting, hard to put down read.
The Very Best Romance Novel from Nora Roberts for me!.......2006-05-16
I simply adore this book and it's what made me go out to buy every other Nora Roberts novel. It just amazes me the chemistry between Luke and Roxanne. Everytime I read it I can't get over the excitement and the smile it brings to me as they barb back and forth. It's just an amazing story over the course of growing up together and how it all develops. Roxanne is smart and sassy and Luke is just too cool. This romantic duo shines and no one else compares to them yet for me. My very favorite romance.
Honestly Illuminating.......2006-03-16
Magic, mystery, romance and burglary are all part of this extremely captivating adventure. I fell in love with the characters immediately even knowing they were "good" thieves - hence "Honest Illusions." The book begins with Luke Callahan coming back into Roxanne Nouvelle's life after a 5 year absence and then immediately flashes back to the time approximately 10 years previous when Roxy was 8 and Luke 12 when Luke joined the carnival w/Max Nouvelle, his daughter, Roxy, Lily, Mouse and their right hand caretaker back in New Orleans, LeClerc. The flashback continues throughout more than half of the book, setting up the reader for the background information needed to tell the full story. I felt it was necessary and definitely kept the reader interested to go back to the beginning, unlike some of the reviewers who felt the flashback was too long. The book then picks up to the current time, but to me, the continuity of the story completely hinged on the background information. Since I don't want to give any of the plot away, I will end my review right here. This is a story that I would definitely re-read and hated to see end; a sure fire plot for an excellent movie!

Book Description
Grover Cleveland is known primarily as the only president to be elected to two nonconsecutive terms. But his record as a staunch reformer is equally impressive: from fighting powerful bosses in both political parties and vetoing bills he considered raids on the Treasury to resisting American imperialism and robber barons alike. And when he became embroiled in scandal -- from fathering a child out of wedlock to (legally) evading the Civil War -- he faced his past truthfully and confronted his demons directly.
In graceful and enduring prose, H. Paul Jeffers gives us the first full look at a president whose moral timber and courageous administrations have more to say to today's politicians than perhaps that of any other leader in American history.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting, but..........2005-04-01
Please keep in mind that I think three stars means "Okay" and that "okay" isn't a bad thing.
I didn't know anything about Grover Cleveland. After reading this book, I found that I liked him far more than most Presidents. However, I wish that the book went into greater depth or analyzed his life a bit deeper.
The author makes various comparisons between Cleveland's sexual behaviors to those of Clinton's, which is fine. But I would have liked to have had other comparisons as well.
This is an interesting book and it left me wanting to know more about its subject.
Painless Backgrounder.......2004-01-31
Jeffers provides a painless background on one of the least-remembered Presidents for those who need to fill in the blank spots of their US history timelines. The writing is fluent and the narrative moves quickly. But the book is not for scholars. Important issues of the times, including the Financial Panic of 1893, the free-silver movement, Hawaii and the imperialist impulse, and the growth of organized labor are covered in a few passages or pages. I especially found the discussion of Cleveland's racial attitudes and civil rights policies insufficient; for a President governing during the implementation of Jim Crow, more than a few paragraphs about the issue were warranted. For detailed discussions of those important historical issues, the reader will have to go to more specialized sources.
Too Reverential.......2003-11-03
Something is missing from this picture -- a two-time president, three-time presidential nominee and former New York governor who "never, ever" trimmed his sails for expediency, was "always" honest and consistently stuck to his convictions no matter the political cost? Not credible. To read this book one would think that Grover Cleveland was literally the second coming. The portrait is overly worshipful, completely one-sided, and ultimately unpersuasive. In particular, attempts at comparison to Bill Clinton and "Zippergate" (as the author calls it) fall totally flat and are completely gratuitous. There is little real analysis here, and too much regurgitation of what prior biographers have written.
I don't doubt that Cleveland was a unique politician, a man well-positioned in his time to take advantage of the public's increasing distaste for the spoils system and the fractional and petty squabbles that marked the Republican party from 1868-84 (Stalwarts vs. Half Breeds, Conkling vs. Blaine, Garfield vs. Conkling, etc). The early chapters on Cleveland's meteoric rise from an obscure sheriff to mayor of Buffalo to governor of New York to president in a few short years are fairly interesting. But Cleveland the man, particularly during his two presidential terms, comes across as a wooden, cardboard figure; no real flavor or insight into his personality and character emerges. Some biographies are too heavy on psycho-babble, maybe this book could have used some of that.
A Great Overview of His Life.......2003-02-04
In a quest to read a biography of every American president, I found this one of Cleveland a satisfying and easy read. Jeffers doesn't seek to make the bio an in-depth study of his personal knowledge of English vocabulaly; thus the easier read, a welcome break from the 600-pagers of some other presidents. Although over 300 pages, this biography goes fast and I didn't find myself wishing it would end. It gave the facts truthfully, thoroughly and precisely; and that's what I needed.
Weak.......2003-01-10
The author appears to have done no original research. He quotes so extensively from earlier biographies that I wish I could read one of them instead. Alas, they all seem to be out of print... If you just want an outline of Cleveland's life and presidency, then I suppose this books is okay, but if you want any insight or analysis, look elsewhere.

Phenomenal Book.......2007-09-26
I am blessed with a wonderful husband of 12 yrs., six children and a Master's of Theology degree from University of Dallas. Even so, I remain amazed and personally challenged by the spiritual and intellectual clarity found in West's book. Seriously, it is a must-read for anyone old enough to approach the topic of sex.
To the point.......2007-09-26
Well written and to the point. Author does not shy away from answering pointed questions with the truth no matter how difficult it might be to hear.
Great reading even for Protestants.......2007-09-09
Let me begin by saying I am Protestant, reformed baptist to be exact. Beginning the book was mainly out of curiosity for what was the Catholic understanding (which I did not think I would be sympathetic to). I was however, very wrong. While there is a fair amount Catholic beliefs that have to be waded through, this book has revolutionized my understanding. It gives the best biblical description and basis for sex and the best practical applications for having redeemed sex that I've read (which as a single young man who is more than a bit obsessive concerning sex, is a fair amount). This book has become the wedding gift I will give to married couples, and the book that any girl I seriously considered marrying would have to read, understand and accept before I would become one flesh with.
Sex, how God intended it to be........2007-08-10
Mr. West does an awesome job of explaining Pope John Paul The Great's Theology of the Body in this Q & A format. Everyone, whether Catholic or Protestant, Muslim or Jew, would benefit from reading it and discovering just what God's plan is for us in the beautiful realm of sexuality. It should be obvious to us...doesn't God always know best? He INVENTED sex after all didn't He?
Great for anyone!.......2007-05-13
This book is a great guide for anyone looking to find happiness in their relationship. For Catholics it's a well laid out interpretation of Catholic teachings that will help guide you on the right path and it's especially helpful on answering questions for significant others who may have difficulty understanding why these teachings are so important to their Catholic spouses. This book will challenge your relationship, but through those challenges lies the key to having a long and happy relationship.

Customer Reviews:
Finally! An honest approach to authentic Christianity!.......2007-04-11
Bill Hybel does a wonderful job of providing a step-by-step approach to authentic Christian living. I was utterly amazed at how easy it is for Christians to go from "keeping it real" to "real phony" from one moment to the next. We experience it every day, in our churches, in the workplace, and yes, even in our own homes. If you sense God's call to "come closer" and desire to live a life that will allow you the freedom to walk in love with Jesus on a daily basis, this book will provide you with the proper tools for building a solid, loving and HONEST relationship with God, others and yourself!
Good Introduction, But Get Your Meat Elsewhere!.......2004-12-24
In my humble opinion, Hybels has written what is a good introduction on becoming a real Christian. The book consists of about 200 pages and 14 chapters on different areas: marriage, money, evangelism, effective service, parenting, emotions, and other areas.
The book is a good primer for someone who wants a deeper walk with Jesus Christ. However, if you are looking for something with more substance, I recommend reading A.W. Tozer, Charles Spurgeon, Andrew Murray, Watchman Nee, Dwight Moody, Charles Stanley, C.S. Lewis, Charles Swindoll, Henry Blackaby, Ian Thomas, and others.
If the book creates a hunger for you to go deeper with Jesus, then the title has served its purpose. However, I would not recommend that you stay content with this title and instead pursue titles by the authors already mentioned.
Its worth the read.......2003-09-09
Bill Hybells challenges Christians to put away pretentious Christianity and begin to communicate with each other about who we are and where we are in Christ. The author contends that unless Christians do so, they will never experience the supernatural walk with a personal God. In a mere hundred and ninety-two pages, Hybells addresses over a dozen significant areas of the Christian life ranging from the role of male and female to physical fitness.
I tried not to like this book. Although I have tremendous respect for Mr. Hybells, I am not a big fan of his politics; yet, despite my reservations I was drawn to it. Hybells attempts to cover a significant amount of material in only a few pages. Whereas Honest to God cannot be called scholarly, it does serve its purpose in challenging the reader to live the authentic Christian life.
Since this book is a primer on spiritual authenticity, it lacked depth; and since Hybells wrote it, it was predictable. Like many of his earlier books, it follows the same format- personal stories or illustrations from his ministry, followed by teaching. Every chapter follows the same format, Yawn! One gets the impression the book is pasted together from a sermon series. Some of the chapters were amazingly brief and consequently, amazingly weak. In a mere thirteen pages we are told how to have an authentic marriage, it is an amazing feat. His chapter on the languages of love or not original with him, nor did he document that it was borrowed from another resource.
Although it is rather predictable and superficial, Hybells does convey with utter clarity what authentic Christianity is. Unless the church rediscovers spiritual authenticity, true renewal will remain an elusive goal at best.
This book is required reading for the devoted believer.......2002-05-12
Bill Hybels always manages to reach me where I live, and his practical advice on being honest with yourself, being honest with God, finding time and methods to pray, study God's word and journal has helped me immensely in my daily walk. I only wish that this book had been written and I had been made aware of it when I was a new believer.
Besides an NIV Bible, anything Bill writes, but particularly this book should be required reading for disciples.
Practical, Pertinent and Personally Powerful...A Must read!.......2002-03-17
I love Bill Hybels heart. He is so passionate about being real and Christlike - He has this wonderful bent for doing something useful with what he knows. I find his insights true to life and his suggestions to be field tested and generally useful. It seems he leaves few stones unturned in his quest for authenticity as he relates it to:
*The role of spiritual disciplines
*Womens liberation issues
*Understanding Masculinity
*Truth telling-in relationships
*Parenting
*Work
*Christian service
*Money
*Exercise
The strength of this book, in my estimation, is not in the "knowing" part of Christianity but rather the "doing". His focus is always about becoming something different from what we've learned - I admire and appreciate that so much.
I have found Hybels teaching to be particularly helpful in applying biblical principles to contemporary concerns and daily living that truly impact me.
I find his writing style to be encouraging, clear, theologically sound and generally devoid of "Churchy" language. In particular, I found the chapters in this book on:
"A new dimension in Spirituality",
"Truth-telling: pathway to authentic relationships" and
"Honest emotions",
particularly encouraging and useful in addressing particular needs in my own Christian walk. I believe this is a must read for folks, who like myself, desire a deeper spiritual walk and need help getting "traction" on our part in the maturity process.
I highly recommend this book, I believe it is a text you will come back to time and again.

Customer Reviews:
Brilliant! Powerful Insights and soothing to the soul!.......1999-09-02
This was the best Audio tape I have ever listened to on Personal Growth. The speakers both seem amazing and have very great insights that helped me feel more at peace, more centered in my life. I have listened to the tape a couple times in the last two weeks... and I feel good every time I listen to the tape!
What they are saying is so simple - Just become aware of your thoughts and behaviors - and they will no longer have control over you! But while I have heard it before - They add nuances to it that have made listening to them very powerful! I see myself more clearly, I feel better about myself. But it is different from all other motivational or meditation oriented tapes I have heard before.
The authors exude a sense of centeredness and joy. It seems to rub off on me. My life seems to get better every time I listen to their tape. And that's the real thing...not just an affirmation...
I just ordered their book...(Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation) and some of their other tapes...and I am waiting expectantly...
I am so glad I stumbled onto this gem of wisdom.
Audiobook about Personal Transformation.......1999-07-10
This is the best audiotape on transformation I have ever listened to. I have listened to it many times and I always discover something meaningful each time. There are many jewels of wisdom on this tape!
The Kanes share an approach to living that is both new and old. It is about Being Present, which of course many people have talked about. But what is new is they talk about it in a pure and simple way that is easy to grasp. They don't seem to have any religious or new age trappings. And they have helped me to see it in very practical day to day terms.
All I know is I feel more relaxed, centered and alive after listening to this auditape.
I have given the tape as a gift many times and people love it.
Audio tape seminar on a new way of living and being........1997-12-10
The Kanes exhibit masterful insight, teaching
about a shift in perception which human beings
can make to experience profound transformation
in their lives. They work as a harmonious team
with great frankness and skill. In many
people's lives, years of gradual preparation
lead up to an "Instantaneous Transformation."
Hearing Ariel & Shya Kane can serve to speed
up this process substantially, as those who
have done it "the hard way" can look back upon
the teachings of the Kanes and say, "Yes.
They know and understand. Listen to them and
make the jump." Overall, one of the finest
and most inspiring guides I have read or heard
in the last twenty years. Highly recommended
for open-minded spiritual seekers of all ages.

Customer Reviews:
Honestly!.......2005-10-03
Ulrika Jonsson is one of those celebrities mainly known on her own territory -- namely, the U.K. That gives American readers of her autobiography, "Honest," a chance to take her as she is, without tabloids and rumors tainting it. Unfortunately, "Honest" as she is, the portrait she paints is not flattering at all.
She was born into a troubled Swedish family that disintegrated, mainly because of her father's philandering -- a trait that she began copying when she got married. Though her husband forgave her, and they soon had a son, Ulrika dumped him in favor of a muscle-bound Gladiator.
As this was going on, Ulrika's star was rising in the world, resulting in a weathergirl job, commercials, hostings and her own show. But she was in a series of bad relationships, with a crazed footballer, a cold-hearted German, and Britain's most famous coach. Then she found that her unborn daughter Bo had a serious heart defect that might kill her.
The final eighth of the book is perhaps the most compelling -- Ulrika struggling to be a single mom, without emotional support, while her daughter is undergoing one surgery after another. Despite the lackluster prose of her biography, it's a moving story that gives the heartstrings a little tug.
Unfortunately, the decisions that led her to that problem make Ulrika look dim and selfish. She apparently believes any absurd story she's told, such as "my ex-girlfriend lives with me, but only to houseclean." And it's hard to sympathize with her string of disastrous relationships, when she dumped a sweet, tender, loving Mr. Right so she could play the field with Bad Boys. Ulrika repeatedly tries to justify her infidelity by claiming that she couldn't help it -- that it was inevitable. Uh-huh, sure.
Ulrika also has the disturbing tendency to dehumanize anyone she doesn't like -- she refers to an abusive ex as "Mr. C" for a long while, and later disdainfully refers to her lover Sven's girlfriend as "the Italian." Not her name, Nancy Dell'Olio. "The Italian," like a character from a bad gothic novel.
On the flip side, she seems to retain a bizarre adoration for her abusive ex-boyfriends, including one who kicked her in the head, and another who abandoned her with a newborn baby. Additionally, there's a near-obsession with her children. At one point, she flips out because she might have to spend a week or two away from her son.
While the story about her critically ill daughter is a winner, the rest of Ulrika's story is a string of grating affairs -- affairs that a smarter woman would have avoided. "Honest" makes Ulrika seem like a real person... but sadly, it's a shallow person with no backbone and poor taste in men.

Enjoyable read .......2005-06-03
I enjoyed learning about her life, what her side of many press stories were. She is a beautiful woman, but that has haunted her when it comes to men taking advantage of her. She comes across as being a sad woman, who deep down just wants to be loved and cared for.
I enjoyed this book a lot
