Book Description

Classic Christianity (more than 360,000 copies sold) proclaims Bob George’s bold message of grace that has radically changed thousands of lives. Drawing on his own struggles and years of teaching and counseling experience, Bob cuts right to the heart of why many Christians start out as enthusiastic believers but end up merely “going through the motions” of the Christian life. With understanding and wisdom, he shows us the way back to the life Christ had in mind when He set us free. Readers will discover what it means to have Christ living in them; how to experience the joy of the Lord daily; and why Christians still struggle with sin. Life’s too short to miss the real thing!

5 out of 5 stars Truth about the Truth.......2007-10-03

Hi - I'm from Denmark, my name is Martin Lauesen ...

I just bought and read this incredible book. It is so nice, that not everybody has gone mad. In Denmark a lot of people listen to false teaching, and are bound by error - this book could help them - it really help me see the truth, in new light - thanks !

My english is not very good, so i'll stop here - just wanted to say thanks !

5 out of 5 stars Classic Christianity.......2007-04-05

This is a great book and easy to read. Don't stop after the first chapter. You must read the whole book to understand exactly what is being said. This book is great for new Christians and for Christians who have been struggling to live a Christian life and may feel defeated by failure. God sees us complete in Christ. We may be maturing in Christ slowly but we can rest in knowing God sees us complete in Christ now!

1 out of 5 stars Classic Christianity by Bob George.......2007-04-01

(This should have appeared with a 5-star rating) A must for everyone who believes they are "born again," and for anyone who is not a "believer" and is seeking to understand true Christianity. Guaranteed to awaken the reader to basic truths that are more often than not overlooked (if not avoided or totally misunderstood to begin with) by much, if not most of the contemporary Christian world. This book has literally changed my life. I wish I could have been exposed to this liberating teaching decades ago--but then, better late than never...

5 out of 5 stars Great Book, especially for the Seeker.......2007-02-13

I have enjoyed this book immensely. It is the second time I've read it and this time it is the basis for a book study that I am involved with. Mr. George does a great job of taking life's tough questions and difficult situations and providing God's directions for dealing with those in a very open, easy-to-understand format. I highly recommend this book for anyone, no matter where you are at in your faith. Whether you are in a ministry leadership position or if you are seeking to know God, this is a great book. I encourage everyone to read it. It will help you grow.

5 out of 5 stars This book changed my life!.......2007-01-30

This book changed my life! It gave me a new and real perspective of who God is and how he sees me. Because of this book I no longer see God as someone sitting up in heaven with a wooden spoon waiting for me to mess up so that he can bop me on the head. Instead, I see him as God full of grace and mercy and who loves me so much that he can't wait to spend time with me! I highly recommend this book!

5 out of 5 stars Changed my life!.......2007-09-22

The book opened my eyes! Every time I turned the page, I thought I was reading about me. Truly awesome! This is my 1st Book, of Rabbi Twerski's, that I have read - I plan to read more of them.

3 out of 5 stars Very basic.......2007-05-13

This is very basic human potential material for people very new to self-examination.

5 out of 5 stars Transcending Hope.......2005-09-13

This is an excellent book, once again showcasing Dr. Twerski's gifted understanding of human behavior and his masterful ability to translate the complex building blocks in life into understandable, recognizable, and workable terms. This book transcends hope and places clear, easy to follow solutions at our feet. The vignettes are rich in character and Dr. Twerski's personal experiences validate his expert insights. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this book as a gift for anyone because it is a power-packed very easy read.

4 out of 5 stars Not a bad little book on self-esteem..........2005-08-31

This is a book to consume in one evening, and while it seems very slight and superficial, I found it rather effective as a self-esteem booster. Twerski uses case-studies to illustrate his point about how we defeat and degrade ourselves. The problem is that it's difficult to break these habits of thought.

5 out of 5 stars Very Thorough Book on Self Esteem.......2003-07-18

At the root of all our psychological/life obstacles and problems is the concept of lack of self esteem. Self esteem can lead to almost everything; not getting the promotion you deserve, not asking for what you want, not making the right choices, self defeating behaviour that prohibit your growth.

After reading Twerski's book, now I get it. Twerski does a great job outlining the problems associated with low self -esteem, and leads us to ways of overcoming it. This obviously is not an overnight treatment but rather something that may take years to overcome behaviour pattersn that's been ingrained in us since sometimes childhood.

Basically, I liked this book alot, not just for it's in-depth discussion about self-esteem, but also for it's much larger application in personal self-help.

5 out of 5 stars Mickey Rooney, The best actor ever in Hollywood.......2007-04-28

I enjoy this book on Mickey ROoney's life. Sure, he wasn't and isn't perfect, but who is?
He truly is a wonderful man and living legend. He truly has seen and done it all and is still doing it.
This book tells all about his career and life in Mickey's own way.
He truly is a jewel. An american treasure.
We love you Mick!

4 out of 5 stars We're Still Applauding.......2006-07-09

Mickey Rooney is a force to be reckoned with. He began his career on the stage; both of his parents were performers. As a toddler, he looked more like a midget than a baby, so he was cast in various roles as such. Hal Roach's Little Rascals series' popularity gave reason for Rooney to star in his own series as a kid as Mickey McGuire. Later, he moved his way into the "in" crowd, rubbing elbows with some of the most famous names in classic Hollywood. A B-picture that took America by storm, however, cemented his fame as the mischievious son of a judge with a heart of gold. Mickey Rooney became Andy Hardy in the hearts and minds of millions and also began his long companionship with Judy Garland. When WWII came, Rooney joined up to entertain the troops. Afterward, he juggled his way through eight wives and a downward spiral that left him struggling to revive his career.

This book has certain elements that make it seem like a tell-all biography, but it is also good at covering the areas that most readers are interested in. Rooney's vibrant personality shines through the entire book and really helps it flow. The chapters are short too.

It is obvious that Rooney is a conflicted person, but also that he truly loves performing and the people he was associated with through his life. His love for Garland shines brightly and makes one wonder if she was the love of his life only he didn't notice until it was too late. Rooney is not bitter about his many wives; he never says anything to tarnish their names and he accepts blame for the failure of the relationships.

Overall, this is an honest, entertaining, and enjoyable book.

2 out of 5 stars Truth or ...... ?.......2005-12-17

I always admired Mickey Rooney as a performer. He had tremendous talent. What a shame he lived his personal life the way he did. Even though I wasn't born until 1947, I grew up watching his movies on TV. I obtained a copy of the book recently and it is a quick and easy read. Yet I was astounded to read about his sexual exploits written in such a way that they belonged more in in a porn manner than in a book about his life. Obviously, Mickey isn't a gentleman and yet this book was supposedly written *after* he found God. About halfway through the book, when he related another startling episode about his life, I said to myself, "He's making that up." While most of the book is probably based on truth, I think Mickey also created some events out of his wise-cracking mind and then came to believe them himself, especially since those who could call him on them are now dead. While disappointed in him I will still watch his movies whenever I get the chance.

I always buy books with dustjackets, but mistakenly bought one without, so that's my fault. (I'm only using the book as reference not collection.) Still, the book reeks of cigarette smoke.

3 out of 5 stars 'McCARTHY AT HOLLYWOOD AND VINE' (Episode #26).......2004-10-06

*RING!....*RING!

McCARTHY : Uh....hullo?

INTERVIEWER : Hello! We are here today with Internet reviewer, Stephen T. McCarthy, who is going to give us his impression of 'Life Is Too Short', the autobiography of Mickey Rooney.

McCARTHY : Do you have any idea what time it is?

INTERVIEWER : It's 3 A.M., but I'll ask the questions, Stephen, if you don't mind. We understand that unbeknownst to you, your Mother had an autographed copy of this book in her bookshelf for 13 years, which you just recently discovered and read.

McCARTHY : Mmmm....yeah.

INTERVIEWER : Tell us about it. In your Amazon review of 'The Black Stallion,' you raved about Rooney's performance, calling it one of filmdom's finest. Did you also enjoy his book?

McCARTHY : Uh...not really. It relates a lot of interesting stories about Tinsel Town in the 1930s and 40s. And it will appeal to people who wish to learn more about the Stars and the Hollywood Studio System of those times. It also delivers the inside scoop on Mickey's eight marriages, and his relationship to Judy Garland.

INTERVIEWER : What were some of the more surprising things you learned?

McCARTHY : ZZZzzzzz....

INTERVIEWER : Stephen?

McCARTHY : Huh?...Oh! Uhm, well, according to Mickey, his discovery as a performer came as a result of a timely sneeze, and his life was narrowly spared a couple of times under odd circumstances. He seems to think it's every kid's dream to own an English sheepdog. The owner of Seabiscuit once spontaneously gave him an unsolicited opportunity to ride the famous racehorse hard for five-eighths of a mile. Mickey claims that during a chance encounter with a youthful Walt Disney, the artist decided to name his cartoon Mouse after him.

INTERVIEWER : You sound skeptical.

McCARTHY : Well...I dunno.

INTERVIEWER : Stephen, we know that you consider laughter to be the liquor of life. Was there any humor in this autobiography?

McCARTHY : Yeah, quite a bit. Of course, Mickey pokes fun at his well known lack of stature frequently. He once fought rival suitor, Howard Hughes over Ava Gardner : "Soon we were wrestling on Ava's front lawn, a gangling genius and a Hollywood gnome." He jokes that he lost sixteen dollars at his first horse race and then spent the rest of his life and millions of dollars trying to win that sixteen dollars back. He tells of a stupendous night of hard drinking with Astaire, Cagney and Powell. Waking the next morning with stupendous hangovers, Rooney said, "I'm afraid I'm going to die." To which Cagney replied, "I'm afraid I'm NOT going to die." And Mickey declares, "There WAS a time when I wasn't married. I forget when. Fifteen or twenty minutes, I think, in 1968." There's also a hilarious fan (?) letter from a Mrs. Ellie Jones of Idaho reprinted.

INTERVIEWER : Well then, Stephen, why only the 3-Star rating?

McCARTHY : ZZZzzzzz...

INTERVIEWER : Stephen!

McCARTHY : What? Oh...well...Just what is it about these gauche celebrities that compels them to publicly boast of their bedroom conquests? I hardly think we needed to know who Rooney got horizontal with, and when, where, and how many times. The guy seems to think he was writing for some skin magazine half the time. Describing in detail his wife's private parts was entirely uncalled for! He revels in telling us how he did this blonde and how he did that brunette, and how he did the sixteen Japanese gals in a Tokyo lovefest. Frankly, a good deal of this book is embarrassing, disappointing, classless, and too self-promotional. I dunno who "loved" Mickey the most, his rabid fans or his randy tarts.

INTERVIEWER : Would you agree then that 'Life Is Too Short' could be summed up in the following verse? : It's true that the author is a man of renown / But his 'Life Is Too Short' may be partly tall tale / In which Mickey Rooney, the bad boy of 'Boys Town' / Bets the horse's nose and beds the Hollywood tail.

*CLICK!

INTERVIEWER : Hello?....Hello, Stephen?....Hmmm. Well, folks, there you have it. Be sure to join us here again next time on 'McCarthy At Hollywood And Vine,' when Stephen T. McCarthy will be reviewing the 1946, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, film noir classic, 'THE BIG SLEEP.'

5 out of 5 stars A must read for Sensual Students seeking Pleasure and Joy.......2007-07-23

Great little book filled with wonderful, tantalizing and DOABLE sexy things to improve your pleasure with your partner. I recommend it to all my girlfriends with flying colors!

5 out of 5 stars The Best.......2006-03-30

This is the best book you can have for great and fun sex...should be in everyone's library! This book is straight to the point, very easy to understand and completely fun to read. Hits all the things lovers are really interested in!

5 out of 5 stars Got A Minute?.......2004-03-31

If you're short of time but looking for some divine inspiration, this book is for you. Snappy, two-page write-ups describe each of 50 techniques guaranteed to stir up some heat in the bedroom department. Adding to the lessons are some very funky illustrations by Sarah Young. Yummy! A word of warning, though: Although this would make a GREAT Valentine's gift for longtime couples, a new partner might find some of it a little on the kinky side. Then again, why not give them a copy and find out?

My main complaint with the book is that it seems to have vanished from the literary scene so soon. As I write this, it isn't even available at Amazon.com anymore. If it doesn't reappear, look for a copy at one of the big online used book vendors (where I snagged my cherished copy).

4 out of 5 stars Dramatic...........2007-05-17

If you're looking for a dramatic novel... with more mess than a little bit, I highly recommend this book. The characters are crazy and they get into crazy situations... If you've read one of La Jill Hunt's novels before, then I'm sure you'll LOVE this one!

4 out of 5 stars IT'S DEFINTELY TOO CLOSE.......2007-05-15

Too close for comfort is a book that everyone can relate too. i hate when family turn against you for someone that's not even in your family just to hurt you. Jealousy is a vicious thing as Paige found out with her cousin Celeste and her own Aunt.

YaYa us a self centered tempermental diva that needs to get a clue and stay out of her brother's love life. she based her feelings on Paige by what some one who ray Charles could see was jealous and out to hurt her which just shines the light on how petty some women can be.

The only thing i would change about this novel is the title but other than that it's a page turner and will not dissapoint!

This is my first la Jill Hunt novel i've read and i must say that i am impressed and i was glad when Paige gave Celeste what she'd been needing. The men in this book are typical and the women as well. i love the friendships that Monya, T and YaYa all have and they're working towards a goal and not depending on someone else to do it for them. i can't wait to see what trhe sequel i know that's coming has in store.

4 out of 5 stars The Title Should Have Been "Way Too Much Drama".......2007-04-25

The book was pretty good, definately drama filled and a fast read. I think I'm starting to tire of all the damn drama from this flooded market of urban writers. LaJill did a good job and the book is definately a page turner. I was disappointed that Celeste & Kasey didn't get what was coming to them and I would be forced to read yet another drama filled sequel to see what happens to them along with Lucille and Marlon. Quincy's childish behavior and attitude towards Paige made me want to slap him & scream "Man Up!" What was up with the ending? Was that Lincoln or Franklin at the shop with the "Baby Mama Drama?" And what happened to Lincoln's character, was it necessary to make him a tired, trifling brother in the end? I'm going to need a little 'drama free' vacation before I can again appreciate this much craziness!

4 out of 5 stars TOO MUCH DRAMA.......2007-04-23

APOOO Rating-4.5

LaJill Hunt definitely delivers a page-turner with Too Close for Comfort. Quianna Westbrooke and her brother, Quincy Westbrooke, are the main characters in a DRAMA-filled saga. There is drama with family, baby daddies' family, friends, and lovers.

Quincy is dating Paige Michaels. He thinks he has found the one. That is until she allows her past to interfere in their romance. She gets caught up with her baby daddy, his mom, and his new wife. Someone close to Paige goes through great troubles to try to pull them apart.

Then we have Quianna, also known as YaYa, who is dependent on Quincy to pull her out of any and every jam. He decides to help her live out her dream of owning her own shop, a nail salon, by allowing her to have the space next to one of his four barbershops, Q-maters. This only allows YaYa to be deeper into his business...personal business that is.

I read the book in ONE sitting. I could not help but continue to turn the pages to see what would happen. I would have definitely given this book a 5 had it not been for the oversight of the main character's name. I see that I now need to go back and read "Shoulda Woulda Coulda", which is the prequel. Definitely recommend this book.

Book Description

It is not often that a remarkable gem of a manuscript is uncovered and published. Geoffrey Wellum's First Light was one example. The memoir of Timothy Ashmead Vigors is another. Born in Hatfield but raised in Eire and educated at Eton and Cranwell, early 1940 found Tim Vigors in France flying Fairey Battle bombers. After the Fall he converted to fighters joining 222 Squadron with whom he saw frantic and distinguished service over Dunkirk and then during the dangerous days of The Battle of Britain, when he became an ace. Transferred to the Far East in January 1941 as a flight commander with 243, thence to 453 Squadron RAAF, on 10th December he led a flight of Buffaloes to cover the sinking Prince of Wales and Repulse. Dramatically shot down, burnt and attacked on his parachute, he was evacuated to Java, and from there to India. And this is where his hand-written account ends. Throughout, the author describes his experiences in an honest, refreshing way. It is a fascinating and valuable record, one destined to be seen as a classic. Postwar, Tim was no less active primarily in the horse world, in Ireland and England, selling, breeding and consulting; but also in aviation, with his own company Vigors Aviation.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Life's Too Short to Cry - Tim Vigors.......2007-06-07

With memories of Geoffrey Wellum's recent book 'First Light', I was excited to find that a new Second World War RAF pilot's autobiography had been published so recently as 2006. I found the facts of the book most interesting, but it lacks tension and literary style, and I never found myself wanting to read on and on, as with Wellum and many other authors. As a keen student of the great Douglas Bader, I was fascinated by Vigors' references to their flying together, at a time when Bader was developing his ideas on tactics and leadership. To be fair, Tim's death came before his book could be properly edited, and it is well worth reading for the history surrounding the sinking of Prince of Wales and Repulse, and the Royal Navy's lack of understanding of air power, despite the lessons learned in Europe.

5 out of 5 stars A Delightful Story with Unique Insights.......2007-03-01

This memoir of a fighter pilot in World War II left me with several thoughts.

First was the thought that no matter how good you were, fate or luck or whatever had a lot to do with your survival. One time with almost no warning the Germans were bombing their air field. They were emergency scrambling to get airborne. Some of the Spitfires were hit by German bombs. They paid no attention as to how good a pilot you were. In another instance Vigors was scheduled to fly somewhere on a transport aircraft. He got bumped off the flight by a general. The plane was shot down, no survivors.

Second there's an interesting insight to the loss of the 'Prince of Wales' and 'Repulse.' Vigors was the commander of the squadron that was to provide them with continuous dawn to dusk air cover. Admiral Phillips took his two ships to sea without telling the Air Force. You have to presume that he was one of the Battleship Admirals who refused to believe that his majestic, powerful ship could be hurt by those pesky little aircraft. He went down with his ship.

Finally I find myself wondering about his love life. In England he was in love with the beautiful Jil. In Singapore there is a comment that he married Jan. The manuscript for the book was found after his death and submitted for publication by his widow Diana. Way to go flyboy.

Product Description

This is a collection of stories diverse in subject, but sutured together by the limitless affection the author holds for the land and the people of New England. Donald Hall tells about life on a small farm where, as a boy, he spent summers with his grandparents. Gradually the boy grows to be a young man, sees his grandparents aging, the farm become marginal, and finally, the cows sold and the barn abandoned. But these are more than nostalgic memories, for in the measured and tender prose of each episode are signs of the end of things a childhood, perhaps a culture. In an Epilogue written for this edition, Donald Hall describes his return to the farm twenty-five years later, to live the rest of his life in the house of string.

We take pleasure in bringing back into print this classic account of boyhood summers in old New England, with the addition of an Epilogue and an album of family snapshots.

4 out of 5 stars Hails For Hall.......2005-04-25

If you claim to like poetry or writing where the ink squiggles can actually allow you the experience of feeling the grist and sand of a place between your toes...take out any work by Donald Hall and you'll feel the tide of the New England coast coming in over your feet...Often mislabled with the churl quip, "regional writer", Mr. Hall is much more....
a master of making you feel you are where he wants to
take you...His characters come with the authenticity of having either been known, met, or viewed by Hall, or conjured from his collective memories and boiled down like a fine cider from actual sips of experience he's had with like individuals in his native New England...
...And what individuals he finds and has found in the ernest incredibly delicious confines and environs of the North East...In "String Too Short", Hall takes on the not inconsiderable task of fleshing out the rich hues of his own New England ancestory..You can smell his grandmother's kitchen, taste the dusty hay from his grandfather's barn, and feel the New Hampshire sun on your face via his entrancing and detailed prose...
Mr. Hall? Are you out there? As a one time correspondent known to him as "John-Tom" I hope all is well with the venerable "Don" of Eagle Pond...Mr. Hall has taken himself off the pony express of fans he has deservedly developed over the years...and as one who has come across his work and spent pleasant minutes and hours in fine examples of his work, recommended to other readers here such as " Their Bright And Shining Eyes", " Without", " Here At Eagle Pond", and lately, " The Painted Bed", Mr. Hall has well earned praise and a rest in the bright sun of poetry and masterful observations on life around us he has picked up through his well lived adventures and travel...ALL OF HIS WORK..highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2004-05-12

A very poetic and wise account of a fading world that the author was lucky enough to be a part of. Quite moving in places, funny in others. A very satisfying book.

4 out of 5 stars A Celebration of life - present and personal history.......2003-07-28

Donald Hall is a writer beautifully tangent to and cognizant of the New England spine we all wish to immulate in our thoughts of the 'old American spirit', a spirit too seemingly on the wane at present -even on 4th of July celebrations this year. His most recent collection of short stories , WILLOW TEMPLE , was my introduction to this Whitmanesque, Robert Frost-like wonder boy of observation. In returning to his early work in the Nonpariel Books reissue of STRING TOO SHORT TO BE SAVED one wonders why he has remained in the background, and hasn't found the wide audience he deserves.

"STRING..." is a series of short stories of Hall's recollections of spending his summers with his beloved grandparents in New Hampshire. All phases of farming and maturing from a small child to a young adult are addressed in a wholly readable, poetic, illuminating fashion. Hall knows how to describe nature as well as anyone writing today. He also revives an appreciation for his roots that we could all study as journeys toward finding ourselves. "To be without history is to be forgotten" he writes."My grandfather did not know the maiden names of either of his grandmothers. I thought that to be forgotten must be the worst fate of all." Hall invites us to accompany him on his memories of haying, picking blueberries, visiting the odd group of people who have become indelible American daguerreotypes for him. "The farm was a form: not a set of rules on the wall, but like the symmetry of winter and summer, or like the balance of day and night over the year, June against December. My grandfather lived by the form all his life, and my summers on the farm were my glimpse of it."

Simple gifts, these. And the simplicity of Donald Hall's writing is what makes it so readable and so memorable. The book stands solidly on its own as a definitive New England memoir. In this new reissue there is an added Epilog which traces Hall's return to his Hew Hapshire memories and farm after many life changes. This Epilogue is worth the price of the book. If only this edition weren't tainted by the crudely inappropriate pen and ink pictures imposed on the pages of each new chapter. But that is the only unnecessary clutter in this otherwise tender book.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding recipes.......2007-07-05

This book is packed with great recipes, even if you want to cut back or omit the ingredients that make them hot (but really, who wants to do that!). Also, many choices for vegans.

5 out of 5 stars Veg Cooking That I Love!.......2003-01-19

I was brought up on 'real food' (meat and potatoes), so when I started to go veg, I ran into a problem where I didn't like what's normally considered vegetarian. I began to crave food with real substance and flavor. Browsing through my favorite bookstore one day, I came across Biker Billy's cookbook and was thrilled. I was immediately attracted by the title, I mean, a veg biker? How could I go wrong?!
I've been using recipes from this book for four years now and love it. I have a young son, so I sometimes adjust the spice and fire to a level he can tolerate. I even cook for meat-eaters from this book and no one ever misses the meat!
Two thumbs up - love ya Biker Billy!

4 out of 5 stars Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Hot! Hot! Hot!.......2001-07-03

Bill Hufnagle. Burly biker. Fiery food lover. Cookbook author. Vegetarian. You might think you just fell down the rabbit hole, but after tasting his creations you`d know everything was going to be all right. His tongue-in-cheek cookbook will satisfy anyone who loves spicy foods, and vegetarians who want a change.

If you like spicy or downright hot foods, you'll get a kick out of this cookbook (pun intended). Flavors are bold and the body of recipes varied. Of course you'll find the standard hot items like stuffed jalapeno peppers and chili pie but there are lots of surprises to be found here as well.

For pasta fans, try "Mean Bean Meatballs" on top of your next plate of spaghetti. Vegetarians should try "Scrambled Beyond Belief", which uses extra-firm bean curd and chipotle peppers, for breakfast. Need an exciting side dish? Make "Devilish Pumpkin Fries" and watch everyone's eyes light up.

One of my most favorite recipes from this cookbook that I've made many times since, with and without the fire, are his "Chocolate Killer Cookies". This is a great and easy to prepare chocolate cookie recipe. I've made them with white chocolate chips as called for but found my favorite way is to use peanut butter chips instead. The recipe only makes 24 cookies and they will not last long. When using the cayenne pepper, they remind me of very good quality ginger snaps. Just enough bite to make your mouth tingle but not enough to make you stop eating.

For such an extraordinary cookbook it's a shame that there is no measurement given for how hot a recipe is. Something as simple as giving a mild, medium, or real hot rating for each recipe would be a major help. "Righteous Rotelle" had enough heat to make you sweat, while "Chipotle Cheese Soup" was just smoky and belly warming.

When making a few recipes I needed to make a few adjustments, which could be due to bad testing or differences in equipment. I shortened the boiling time for the asparagus in "Asparagus a la Dante" as in my first attempt they came out a bit limp after they where fried. Regardless, they were addictive.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cookbook regardless of a few annoyances and can hardly wait to try other recipes. Tonight though, I'm making more cookies!

5 out of 5 stars H*llfire and Salivation.......2000-04-05

One taste of Biker Billy's smoky "Pita Pockets in Pain" and I'm singing in his choir...

It's a great cookbook -- well-written, informative, and informal (obviously!). Meat-lovers simply won't notice that it's a vegetarian cookbook: the flavors, textures and fire make every recipe I've tried memorable.

5 out of 5 stars Small but powerful.......2003-08-14

An extremely short read that packs a lot of punch. Why Struggle is a book that is small enough to keep in your purse or back pocket and carry around each and every day. The text is easy to read and easy to comprehend and forces you to take a critical look at yourself in bite sized pieces. Ms. Faison touches upon the most important parts of the human psyche: To Live, To Love, To Learn, To Grow and To Share. Each page has an exercise to perform that helps the reader reach further into themselves to discover more about what makes them a better person in society.
There were several "ah ha" moments in this books for me, things that I just hadn't thought about in that way the information is presented. Naturally curious as I am, this only makes me want to share this book with friends. I liken the discovery of the action filled book with a beautifully wrapped present that one can't wait to open. An Example that I found to be pertinent to my life is the affirmation "I speak with power and Purpose". Sometimes its necessary to be quiet. To quote from this book: There are many times no response is required. Be cautious with your words and save your comments for those who will value what you say. The exercise: Give your next conversation your undivided attention. Turn your body to the person, look them in the eyes and open your ears to their words. Pause for 3 seconds before responding. If a response in not required, say nothing. For a person who is always eager to share an opinion, whether solicited or not, this is pertinent to my life and something that I will carry forth with me. This book is filled with epitaphs that are compact enough to be retained indefinitely.
Take this book with you, in your mind or on your physical person, you can't go wrong with it. A perfect gift for those in your circle of friends.

5 out of 5 stars A warm and fuzzy read........2000-01-10

I met her and felt the warmth. The entire time I was reading this little book, I just kept saying, she's right! If you don't believe that you have it in you to be happy, buy this book.

5 out of 5 stars President, Team 2 LEarn, inc.......2000-01-08

I heard her speak and bought her book. She lives what she has written. Barbara has captured in a simple and straight forward manner, the how to "BE" your own person. This book is a quick read, but once read, it becomes a constant source for those "..tight shoes moments" we all have. I keep my copy on my desk and when I feel hassled or stressed out. I open my book and have a reality check with Barbara's "right on target" comments. After that, I do one of Barbara's thinking and action exercises. I find my attitude shifts back to "being Me" and I get right out of those "tight shoes." Barbara, thanks for your help. When's your next book coming out?
