Windows 2000 Active Directory is a notably authoritative and engaging guide to the Microsoft Active Directory (AD) for any administrator or developer making the move to the new Windows and this powerful directory standard.
Articulate and technically astute, the author comes across as a trusted advisor, providing an expert's view of designing the layout of your company's Active Directory schema. In realistic terms, he shows you how AD can coexist with Unix directories. The book not only provides a collection of screen shots (though there are hands-on tutorials for specific tasks) but also a nicely in-depth tour of what Internet directories are and what advantages Active Directory offers. Case studies on sample domains and organization units (OUs) for sample companies, including a model global corporation, will help you cope with the design of even the most complex directories. Hints for limiting "domains" and favoring the more flexible "organizational units" (OUs) will also help you think in Windows 2000 terms.
Later sections of the book delve into Active Directory Services Interface (ASDI) scripting using Windows Script Host (WSH), Visual Basic, and even ASPs for browser-based administration. The tips and sample scripts for a variety of common administrative tasks, such as adding new users, changing passwords, and the like, assume very little programming background. This focus on the practical side of administration rounds out an extremely useful and technically savvy guide to Windows 2000 that can definitely simplify the life of any administrator, manager, or developer upgrading to the latest Windows. --Richard Dragan
Book Description
Working with Microsoft's network directory service for the first time can be a headache for system and network administrators, IT professionals, technical project managers, and programmers alike. This authoritative guide is meant to relieve that pain. Instead of going through the graphical user interface screen by screen, O'Reilly's bestselling Active Directory tells you how to design, manage, and maintain a small, medium, or enterprise Active Directory infrastructure.
Fully updated to cover Active Directory for Windows Server 2003 SP1 and R2, this third edition is full of important updates and corrections. It's perfect for all Active Directory administrators, whether you manage a single server or a global multinational with thousands of servers.
Active Directory, 3rd Edition is divided into three parts. Part I introduces much of how Active Directory works, giving you a thorough grounding in its concepts. Some of the topics include Active Directory replication, the schema, application partitions, group policies, and interaction with DNS. Part II details the issues around properly designing the directory infrastructure. Topics include designing the namespace, creating a site topology, designing group policies for locking down client settings, auditing, permissions, backup and recovery, and a look at Microsoft's future direction with Directory Services. Part III covers how to create and manipulate users, groups, printers, and other objects that you may need in your everyday management of Active Directory.
If you want a book that lays bare the design and management of an enterprise or departmental Active Directory, then look no further. Active Directory, 3rd Edition will quickly earn its place among the books you don't want to be without.

What can I say? This book is necessary for any AD admin........2007-09-16
Not much to say, other than I finished this gem with a wealth of knowledge. You can really just jump around to interesting chapters, or read it cover to cover. This book covers everything from policies, to ADSI, to scripting.
use this instead of the Gerald Carter book.......2007-05-25
Hi, I got this book because I could not make heads nor tails of LDAP System Administration by Gerald arter. I read this book, and studied this book, and learned from this book. The authors of this book make their living from the Active Directory. Thus you can be sure that they are not going to make fools of themselfs by publishing
a whole lot of garbage. I used this book to learn about LDAP and then I successfully implemented LDAP at work.
Highly recommended!
Miserable dictionary of doublespeak.......2006-09-14
Not recommended for native speakers of the English language.
When trees == forests and top-level directories are instead 'naming contexts' .... The desirable format would be "This feature, which MS call 'X', is 'Y' plain english", but instead the Y feature will only ever be called X.
This is not a helpful book.
The overall pros and cons of Active Directory, common tips and traps, and more.......2006-08-05
Joe Richards, Robbie Allen and Alistair G. Lowe-Norris' Active Directory, 3rd Edition is also for Windows administrators who may know all to well about the problems it's brought to prior versions of windows. This edition considers the Directory for Windows 2000, 2003 and its updates, considering the overall pros and cons of Active Directory, common tips and traps, and more. Yes, you can use Microsoft's documentation for many similar answers; but here they are arranged in a more logical manner and provide more candid assessments to help users upgrade or understand options.
Great book but there is a new edition.......2006-07-21
This is the leading reference for Active Directory but it has been updated to a third edition, so you should get that one.

A Fitting End to the Age of Apocalypse.......2007-05-13
Caps the end of a truly interesting time in Marvel's history. The reimagining of various X-Men characters, coupled with an updated history of many other Marvel icons, bring this memorable series to a close. This issue continues with much of the high drama from earlier issues and leads to many satisifying conclusions along with quite a number of tragic ones. A truly great read!
Age of Apocalypse .......2006-09-02
The complete Age of Apocalypse book 3 collects the real meat of the story. Magneto and his X-Men have all gone their separate ways and now we begin to see each of their individual stories, Nightcrawler's journey to the savage land, Gambit's to the Shi'ar galaxy, Rogue and the Astonishing X-Men head to stop the cullings, ect.
We start to get some of the background of some of the new characters in this volume, such as Sunfire's past. We also get to see where the rest of Marvel's heroes have been in X-Universe.
Age of Apocalypse was one of Marvel's most successful story arcs and in this volume we can see why. It includes some of marvel's top artist today, Adam Kubert (Ultimate X-Men), Chris Bachalo (X-Men), Joe Madureira (Ultimates 3), and Salvador Larroca (The New Universe) as well as some of the top writers Warren Ellis (Ultimate Galactus), Jeph Loeb (Ultimates 3,4), and Fabian Nicieza (Cable and Deadpool). If you've already checked out volume 2 your for sure going to want to have a look at this volume as well and no true marvel fan should go without them.

Good Night Chicago.......2007-03-08
While the book isn't as good as Good Night Moon, it is a good representation of Chicago and a fun way for little kids to learn about the city.

Rockabye Cradle of US History.......2007-09-17
This delightful little book introduces very young readers to famous landmarks and sites in Boston. It's a good teaching tool and anybody from or familiar with or just plain fond of the Boston area will love it too. Boston is the Cradle of U.S. History; it is a cultural, academic and historical mecca and this book does a nice job of introducing that to young readers!
An ideal companion book Good Night San Francisco (Good Night Our World series) because it is about the Gem of the West Coast and this one is about the Gem of the East Coast.
Disappointing.......2007-08-23
I definitely would suggest that you flip through this book in a store before purchasing. I liked the general topic covered by this book, but was extremely disappointed when we received it and I flipped through it. Basically every page says "Good Night (Insert Boston Landmark Here)." Maybe people that are familiar with these books already know this, but with this being the first in the "Good Night" series that I have purchased, I feel ripped off.
A little bit of home..........2007-04-10
I was so excited to find this book. My husband and I are both originally from Boston, and to be able to read a children's "Boston book" to our son is a great way to have him experience a little bit of our past home... and to familliarize him with some landmarks he will be seeing when we go to visit his grandparents. From the Charles to the Green Monster, the book and illustrations are great!
Great series!.......2007-04-01
My 21 month old daughter loves this book! It is a simple read which introduces kids to the sights of Boston. I can't wait to show her more of the sights in person! I've bought copies for friends who live in New England and also Good Night Maine for my friends in Maine. I wish there were more of the New England states!
Customer Reviews:
Great Drawer; Terrible Instructor.......2005-09-29
I checked this book out at my library mainly to try to get some ideas on how to draw animals more realistically (making the hair look more real). While I was amazed by the drawings in the book, I really didn't learn anything from it. The author should have gone into more depth with the demonstrations. They are each broken into three steps: the outline, the basic shading, and then it's done. So many steps are skipped, so you don't really get an idea of how the author did the drawing. Again, the author's drawings are incredible, I just wish he had gone into more detail on how he did them.
A Good General Reference If This Is Not Your Primary Interest.......2005-09-26
While giving charts of the skeleton and musculature, the emphasis is on the far more helpful method of breaking the animal and its extensions into simple shapes that can be used to quickly lay in a pose before getting on to texture and such. Plenty of action poses and the changes of the head when the jaw or trunk is moved. Covers elephants, bears, horses, cattle, deer, sheep, primates, cats, dogs, and "other small animals" -- mostly the squirrel and the rabbit, but one finished drawing each for the cavy, the prairie dog, the raccoon, and a hoary marmot.
Obviously, if you are focusing on drawing animals in particular or particular animals, you will want more specific reference. Everything here is good, there just isn't enourmous depth.
Nice book, very helpful.......2004-06-23
At first glance I didn't care for the book that much because it was short on actual written directions. Just recently I decided to actually try and draw something from the book. I chose the rabbit on page 154 and 155.
First he shows many different views of the animal, then some form sketches, skeleton and musculature and surface anatomy, then comes the part I find most helpful. In three steps he shows you how to do an animal from start to finish. He shows you the outline of the animal. Then the outline with some shading and then the final step of adding texture.
I haven't been drawing very long but I can usually do the outline and shading, but have trouble getting texture that looks real. Even though he doesn't explain how to do the texture in words it was very helpful to me to SEE how to do it.
I showed my husband my completed rabbit drawing and he was stunned! He couldn't believe that I had done it. I may be a dork but I am planning on framing it and hanging it in my daughter's room.
I am working on a bear next. I plan on doing each animal in the book then going back and doing the animals in the different views that he showed. Practice makes perfect they say!
Best drawing resource ever!.......2002-06-22
If your into drawing animals, this is the book for you! Tips on shading and bases are included. Clear pencil drawings or just outlines you can try to draw. It's the best drawing animal book ever!
Learn to draw many animals.......2001-09-05
This is a great book that shows you how to draw many animals including elephants, bears, horses, cattle, deer, sheep, primates, cats, dogs, squirrels and rabbits.
For each animal there is a complete sketch of the front, side and three-quarter view as well as close-up front and side head views. Next, sketches using basic shapes show the animals from several angles. Then, skeleton, musculature and surface anatomy are shown and discussed. A brief three-step demonstration of how to draw the animal follows.
Complete drawings of the animals doing various activities such as drinking, touching, sitting, and resting are also shown along with sketches of the animals' young. Sometimes different species of animals are shown such as polar and black bears. Animals sharing a similar shape such as zebra, buffalo, hippopotamus and burro are shown sometimes as well. Drawings include brief commentary.
Though I do like this book and did find it helpful, especially the anatomy/muscle diagrams, I wish the written instructions were a little more detailed. Overall, I would recommend it to any beginning to intermediate artist who wishes to improve their animal drawing technique.

Excellent with a few exceptions!.......2007-09-05
Make no mistake, if you want to learn how to competitively play the Alpha Series, this is the book to get. For a mere $15 you get such a wealth of pro knowledge that it really is a no brainer. Don't know what "meaty" or "cross-up" attacks are? No problem, there's a Street Fighter glossary that will give you all those fan-made technical definitions. Seriously, EVERYTHING is in this... with the exception of a few characters.
Unfortunately 1 secret character from SFA2 (Shin Akuma) and all new characters added to SFA3 'Upper' (Guile, Deejay, T-hawk, Feilong, Shin-Akuma, Evil Ryu) are missing from the guide. Normally I wouldn't mind since this was technically a new Street Fighter Alpha 3 revision, but seeing how it was included in the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology game, there's no reason those characters shouldn't have a section in the book!
All and all, great stuff for a great price. With GGPO gaining steam, now's a great time to get in the Alpha scene!
Gem fighter is so fun........2007-06-13
Gem fighter is a crack up. I end up not ever playing the other games. It's a must have if you like fighting games.

A poor sequel to the "Good Night America" original, and a great disappointment. Bad illustrations, uninspired presentation and choice of subject matter. Don't bother with this one.
