Book Description
Ten years ago Hudson Institute's landmark study Workforce 2000 set the agenda for a new understanding of workforce issues. Described by the New York Times as "one of the most influential studies ever produced by a think tank," this groundbreaking report set the terms for much of the policy discussion at the government and corporate levels on these issues. It was the first to call attention to the changing demographics of the American workforce and the growing gap between the skills likely to be required for entry-level jobs in the future and those likely to be possessed by new entrants into the labor force.
Now Hudson releases its long-awaited follow-up: Workforce 2000 Revisited. Like its predecessor, the new book examines the trends that shape the economy and workforce, and combines them into a unique and fresh body of analysis. The authors set the record straight on the demographic makeup of the workforce in the years 2000 to 2020 and challenge the conventional wisdom on trends affecting American workers and employers. Analyzing important emerging issues, they detail the coming demographic changes in the workforce--and their potentially serious effects on the job market and the economy as a whole.
The book also considers the effects of globalization on U.S. business and the American worker, the impact of rapid technological change, the "skills gap" identified in the earlier report, and the need for a new model of education, training, and employment services to prepare workers for the jobs of the next century.
Workforce 2000 Revisited is an indispensable guide to the next decade of workforce issues.

Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Presumably this is aimed at children as a brief overview. Mostly a waste of time for anyone that knows anything about the topic, other than as a quick browse, or a chance to pick up a different creature, beastie, or monster. So this is much more in the vein of a picture book for kids, as far as I can tell.
Good info.......2007-08-14
This is a pretty great book. We love all sorts of books full of facts... and this is one of them. Nice addition to any book collection.

This Book Is Amazing!!!.......2007-08-11
If you love mythology/fantasy, then you're going to love this book. It makes it sound like these creatures actually do exist, and I know it has helped me. It has helped me with school, understanding TV and other books, and it has also helped me write my own stories. This is a really great book! I reread it all the time. This is the most relieable of all fantasy encyclopedias I have!

Disappointing.......2007-05-23
Fantasy Encyclopedia
by Judy Allen
Fantasy Encyclopedia is meant for Grades 4-8 students and library use. You'd expect a full-color large-format fantasy encyclopedia to be a wonderful library edition. But this book is disappointing in its scope and in its depth. The book is a guide to the creatures and peoples of fantasy, mythology, and folklore. Over 50 character types are covered in 9 chapters.
The chapters cover "The Little People," "Mysterious Animals," "Ghosts and Spirits," etc. Each major section in a chapter has a few introductory paragraphs followed by illustrations with captions. This by itself is not so bad, but the book then adds plugs for popular movies and books in which the creatures appeared. So you get disgenuine references to Narnia, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc. You don't get a real feel for how these creatures are used in fantasy. You do get the sense that references to Narnia, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings are placements. A more thorough treatment of the subject would have included much more detail and a better cross section with much better sampling.
Hopefully a revised and significantly expanded edition is in the works.

Wow, what a book! Fantastic photos! All the basic information for each butterfly included in the book is listed in one place. I have a butterfly garden in my back yard in central Florida and have several very good books on butterflies and butterfly gardening and this book is an excellent addition. I originally purchased this book to give to the granddaughter of a friend that is interested in butterflies. I am keeping it!

Book Description
World famous and award-winning artists have selected nonglamorous slate for sculpture, jewelry, land art, or bas relief. What properties of slate made them choose this stone, usually thought of as flat, black, and dull? Our book profiles the artists who use slate and examines their artistic choices. By doing so, we provide the reader with insight into the creative process, as well as slate's artistic potential.
Artists respond to the textures and colors of this metamorphic stone and use slate in a notable array of art forms. Slate of Hand: Stone for Fine Art & Folk Art begins with an overview of folk art created by quarrymen and craftsmen, then focuses on the fine arts. Chapters introduce approximately 50 artists: painters, jewelers, relief carvers, land artists, sculptors, and photographers. Several ajavascript:document.inven.saveRecord.value='yes';document.inven.dir.value='stay';document.inven.submit();re internationally acclaimed, such as land artists Richard Long and Andy Goldsworthy. We have researched world-renowned sculptors Barbara Hepworth and Isamu Noguchi and received assistance from their respective museums in St. Ives, Cornwall and New York City.
Slate of Hand is based on interviews with artists from Wales, England, Scotland, the United States, and Canada. Each artist has found slate's inherent qualities well worth the challenges of the medium. Chapters may be read sequentially or selected according to readers' interest in the artists or the art forms.
Book Description
Dysgraphia is often misunderstood by parents, teachers, and students. This book is designed to present a student's view of the struggles and frustrations, while also presenting hope and specific strategies and compensations. Students (particularly elementary and middle school ages) will enjoy reading about Eli's adventures. Parents and professionals will gain insight into some of the issues, particularly feelings, students may have related to having a significant writing problem, dysgraphia. Throughout the story, Eli describes his feelings about the issue of writing and the reactions of his peers and teachers. After a significant adventure, Eli and his friends realize that everyone is different with different combinations of strengths and weaknesses. Several appendices include actual stories written by Eli in elementary school and a list of specific strategies for students with writing problems. An epilogue presents an Allegory written by Eli in college.

GREAT BOOK.......2007-10-05
This was the best book I've read in a long time! OH! And...Eli's hot. >:)
Very disappointing.......2007-02-23
I was looking for a book to help my son who has recently been diagnosed with dysgraphia. I paid 39.99 + shipping and could not in good conscious share this book with my son. Eli's writing example starts with "I hate my life" - this is not the example I want to share with my son. A very negative and insensitive image is portrayed about the teacher in this book as well. In no way could we relate to the experiences that Eli had at his school. Then a magical gnome saves the day, imaginary friends are great but this was a bit creepy. I am keeping this book to share with my son's school about WHAT NOT to get for help in dysgraphia.
Excellent.......2005-07-28
This book is great for teachers as well as parents to help them understand how a boy with a disability thinks and feels. A must read for teachers who have students with dysgraphia.
Hey Kids! Eli Understands!.......2001-02-15
Kids, Eli knows how it feels to try and try to write and never make it. Do you ever feel like that? Read this book together with your mom and dad or give a copy to your teacher so they will understand you better, too.
Regina Richards is a creative and compassionate educator who shares her expertise as well as her heart. She writes this book with her son, Eli, who knows first hand what struggling with writing is all about. The gift of their compassion, practical hints and insights is wrapped up in this brief book. It's an excellent book to spark healing discussion with your child! Give a copy to a teacher!
Hey Kids! Eli Understands!.......2001-02-11
Is writing just too hard no matter how hard you try? This is a good book to read together with mom and dad. Give a copy to your teacher! Eli knows how you feel!
Parents, this book has great content to spark helpful discussion between you and your child who struggles with writing. Not only does it provide a tool for understanding the emotions behind the struggle but it provides helpful insight into the reasons for this struggle. Regina Richards has had a long and respected career as a "cutting edge" educator of children with special needs. Her knowledge on a "heart level" in helping her son, Eli, to face the challenges of dysgraphia together with her professional explanations and suggestions makes this book a must!

"Going all the way" is still a taboo subject in young adult literature. Judy Blume was the first author to write candidly about a sexually active teen, and she's been defending teenagers' rights to read about such subjects ever since. Here, Blume tells a convincing tale of first love--a love that seems strong and true enough to last forever. Katherine loves Michael so much, in fact, that she's willing to lose her virginity to him, and, as the months go by, it gets harder and harder for her to imagine living without him. However, something happens when they are separated for the summer: Katherine begins to have feelings for another guy. What does this mean about her love for Michael? What does this mean about love in general? What does "forever" mean, anyway? As always, Blume writes as if she's never forgotten a moment of what it's like to be a teenager.
Customer Reviews:
Great read.......2007-09-18
I read this book when I was a teenager and it was wonderful. I have read it many many times and I have still held on to it over the years. Highly recommended for any young lady.
Still Relevant.......2007-09-15
I just finished this book after not reading it for 30 or so years. Reading it at nearly 45 years old, I felt bad for Michael because he was unceremoniously dumped. However, both of them were way too young to settle down. Blume's story is still relevant because teenagers need to understand that they should not rush into relationships.
What I didn't see in this book at all was what Kath was planning on doing in college. She didn't appear to have any goals other than being with Michael. Because she was upper class, it was assumed that college would be the logical result after 12 grades of education. When I was a teenager reading this, I probably didn't care. As a middle-aged woman who had a long hard struggle to achieve a college degree at the age of 43, it would have been nice to hear about what Kath wanted to do with her life other than being with Michael. Instead, we read about the acting aspirations of a secondary character, Artie.
Blume may have been too hesitant in 1975 to make Artie gay. If she was writing it now, the author would probably have Artie realize that he was a gay young man.
Now that I'm older than the protagonist's PARENTS (Unbelievable! Where did the time go?), I paid more attention to the adult characters, especially the Mom. Since I'm no longer a teenager, I now relate more to the adults - which makes sense.
In another review, someone mentioned that Blume should write a sequel to Forever. I would love to read that sequel but I can imagine my own as well. Kath does get involved briefly with Theo but realizes that a summer love doesn't always translate to real life. She goes to college, has a number of relationships and then realizes the increased opportunities that college-educated women have in the late 1970s (due to the feminist movement) and goes to law school.
She marries by the mid-1980s, just as AIDS becomes a daily topic on the evening news. Kath has a couple of children and eventually has a midlife crisis halfway through the 1990s. She starts to go over her life and thinks about her first love Michael intermittently.
Divorced at the millennium and with her kids about to start college, she decides to Google her old boyfriend Michael. Recently widowed, Michael is also revisiting his life and is delighted to hear from Kath.
They marry in 2005.
What does all of this mean? It means that Blume is an excellent storyteller to inspire people like myself to think of sequels for the characters.
wow..great book.......2007-09-10
i'm 13 and I have to say, it might be too much for anyone younger, but overall it was a great book. I finished in 2 hours
Child Abuse.......2007-09-06
One of my daughters unsuspectingly brought this book home from the misleadingly named "Young Adult" section of our library, where children as young as twelve are encouraged to browse. This particular edition was the one with the front cover that makes it appear to be a harmless adolescent romance, but the book inside turned out to be a cross between a pornographic novel and an advertisement for Planned Parenthood.
If you want to get an idea of what this book is like without supporting it financially, and you're over 18 and have a strong stomach, just go to Amazon's "Search inside this book" feature and search for "ralph". If you still want to read the book, please don't move to my town. We've got enough weirdos and perverts here already.
Courtesy of Teens Read Too.......2007-07-20
FOREVER... is the most romantic teen love story ever written!
Katherine and Michael are normal teens who meet in a normal way - at a party! What they have together is so bonding it seems like it will last forever. It's also the most difficult kind of relationship, because they are truly in love.
After meeting and going out a few times, Katherine feels like she is in love. When she and Michael begin getting closer in a sexual way, they both feel as if this could be it.
If I say any more about the plot then I will give away the whole book!
Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down! It isn't often that you come across such an amazing love story because it is told as if Ms. Blume has really been in this intense of a relationship. FOREVER... is a must read for any older, mature teens due to sexual content.
