Book Description

The powerful finale to the Christy Award-winning novels in the LEGENDS OF THE GUARDIAN-KING series Believed dead by all but the handful of supporters who rescued him from his Mataian enemies, Abramm Kalladorne has fled his homeland to the high mountains of northern Chesedh. Traveling under a new name with a group of bitter and increasingly desperate fellow exiles, Abramm hopes to reunite with his wife in Chesedh, where he will offer his services to her father in fighting the invading armies of the Black Moon. But with every step he is hindered, delayed, and diverted from the direction he desires to go, and it soon becomes clear Eidon has other plans for him. In the royal city of Fannath Rill, Maddie alone believes Abramm still lives. But since she has no proof, her friends, family, and public opinion press her to remarry. With its neighboring realms now under enemy control, Chesedh has become the last bastion of Eidon’s Light. Desperately overmatched, it cannot survive on its own. Yet the rich, handsome eastern warlord who is openly courting Maddie has a vast fleet of galley ships that could turn the tide in Chesedh’s favor....

5 out of 5 stars I loved this series!.......2007-09-19

This is a great ending to a wonderful story. Karen Hancock has my vote for Great Modern Writer of Christian Allegory.

5 out of 5 stars A Tour de Force!.......2007-07-08

I have loved Karen Hancock's books ever since discovering The Light of Eidon. Except for The Lord of the Rings, I rarely if ever read sci/fi or fantasy, but once I opened the first page of the first of her 4-part series, I was enthralled with Abramm Kalladorne and his spiritual journey. Each book in the series has been a wonderful tale of adventure, friendship, spiritual growth and maturity, with all the things that make for good storytelling--heroism, valor, sacrifice, great secondary characters, wonderful edge-of-your-seat cliffhanger chapter endings, against-all-odds battles, romance, you name it, Hancock knows how to deliver!
But the best part of all is her underlying spiritual themes. It's the 'pilgrim's progress' of an individual's coming to know the Truth and then learning how to walk in truth. I was brought to tears in so many places during her narratives as her characters went through testings and then received great rewards.

5 out of 5 stars Finale not to be missed.......2007-06-04

Karen Hancock's final book is spellbinding and a fitting end to this wonderful fantasy/allegorical series. The faith and love of Abramm, Maddie and Trap are tested more than ever before and their responses are genuine and heartfelt. The reader has little difficulty imagining the land, the people and the intricate politics of the warring countries as Karen's writing is of the highest calibre. The characters' individual struggles are portrayed so well that I was fully invested in the outcomes of their choices. The tension between Trap and Carissa and their languishing marriage was excellent and juxtaposed beautifully with Abramm and Maddie's seemingly unfounded commitment to each other despite their physical separation. Staffids, shapeshifters and the purging of physical evil by the cleansing light of Eidon are vivid allegorical descriptions of our own lives.

Return of the Guardian King is engrossing, entertaining and challenging. The message at it's heart is powerful and not to be missed. This is a landmark series to be enjoyed more than once.

4 out of 5 stars Good Conclusion.......2007-05-27

An enjoyable end to the Legends series. Lots of action, romance and well done Christian allegory. The writing could have been a bit crisper and i missed the political intrigue of the earlier books. It is always hard to read a final book because you know the hero wins its just a question of how and who dies along the way.

5 out of 5 stars The Review Unwritten.......2007-05-23

I finished reading it late last week and I cannot get it out of my head. I envision shadowspawn in my laundry basket, I see dragons in my dreams. I have so much to write, but my hands are bound. I can't spoil it for you! That would just be wrong. So, I'll say nothing. Nothing at all.

Well, okay. Just a little.

You will never forget the simply delicious new character, Draek Tiris. Handsome, eloquent, rich, and set to win Maddie. And to think he's - Uh oh! There I go. I can't tell you or it will ruin everything.

Okay then, here's something. There are so many emotionally poignant moments. I broke down and cried when Maddie discovers her sons are - Oh! I can't tell you that either! Never mind.

But I can tell you about Abramm, of course. Abramm and the importance of the dragon insignia on his coat of arms, and the same emblem tattooed on his arm. Remember that? From the first book? It is all woven together so beautifully and comes to a magnificent climax when - No!

Gillard! You'll be blown away, truly blown away by Gillard's - Sigh. Not even that.

I can't tell you anything, except read it. Read. It. And if you haven't read the previous books, you should, but you don't necessarily have to, to enjoy this one, but why wouldn't you? Just read them all.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Well done adaptation of a great book.......2007-04-29

"Abba's Child" is, in my opinion, the quintessential Brennan Manning. Though I have thoroughly enjoyed all that he has written. I have read and reread the book many times over as there is too much to process at first pass.

"Posers, Fakers, and Wannabes" is a student adaptation of "Abba's Child." While, in general, I am not a fan of audience adapted works, I had heard good things and purchased a copy to give away to a younger friend of mine. Of course I wanted to peruse it before giving it away and found myself reading it through, enthralled by the original content with new language. I found it to be equally as powerful-- not the least watered or dumbed down.

If you have read any other Manning, or if you are an avid reader and contemplative thinker, go ahead and buy "Abba's Child." But, regardless of who you are, "Posers, Fakers, and Wannabes" is a well done adaptation of a great book. I don't believe you will be disappointed.

1 out of 5 stars Fr. Manning preaches a false gospel - don't be fooled!!!!!.......2006-09-13

Fr. Brennan Manning is a Franciscan priest who attempted to marry without being dispensed from his vow of celibacy in 1982. He has since peddled a false gospel that is built around the idea that God's pardon is unconditional - a euphemism for saying that you can be forgiven for your sins without repenting and amending your life. This is a lie, and a defense mechanism Fr. Manning has evolved to assuage his guilty conscience. If you really want to seek the Mercy of God, I suggest you read "Divine Mercy in my soul", the diary of St. Faustina, avaulable here on Amazon.com. God's Mercy is endless, but you cannot be pardoned if you are not sorry; Fr. Manning's false gospel will do you no more spiritual good than it has done him. He needs your prayers and your pity - not your money or your reading time.

4 out of 5 stars Dripping with Wisdom, Solace.......2005-10-05

This wonderful book reinforces the notion (absurd to many) that "God loves us exactly the way we are - but that he loves us too much to let us stay like this." A true shot in the arm for anyone seeking the truth about God and self, and wondering what's next in life.

Despite the disarming title, Manning has not written a "self-help" book, he's written about divine help, found through surrender and brokenness before God. Every page drips with trenchant observations, amusing anecdotes, quotes from notable thinkers and philosophers (Carl Jung among them) and quotes from the Bible (using the wonderfully direct and earthy translation from "The Message").

"Posers, Fakes & Wannabes" is so full of wisdom, humor, and "Big Ideas", I found myself savoring the opportunity to spend time with this book, reading, and rereading many passages, thinking about my own life and about God.

And, no, this book is not "heady stuff" for academics. Written in plain spoken prose, this book is appropriate for anyone, from teenagers to geezers.

A must-have for "the seekers" among us.

4 out of 5 stars Manning focuses on what's real, and what's an act........2004-05-08

If you have even a passing interest in Christianity, but struggle to know what to do with the often conflicting behaviors exhibited by many who claim to all be following the same basic belief system, then this book is an excellent look at what it could and should be. How is it that the message of the Gospel is often acted out on a stage for the benefit of our own ego?

Brennan Manning has an uncanny ability to sift through the surface, and dive straight into the places we often do not want to acknowledge exist within all of us. In this book he tackles the "image conscious" Christian, more concerned with how they look, than what they are doing. In it he exposes just how far off the message of love and peace we have often gone. With all of our masks, pettiness, vanity and ego we consume ourselves with, where is our focus on our true cause; to love God and love our neighbor as ourselves?

Of particular interest is how he manages to be blunt and direct in many very personal ways, yet all in his usual self effacing style which leaves one motivated not judged. When reading Manning, one is left with the overwhelming sense that they are simply in a conversation with someone who is speaking on their level. While I know a few too distracted with dogma and doctrine to understand his perspective, he writes about the very real struggle to let go of ego and image, and focus on what is really important. His looks into the problems of racism, homophobia, and neglect of the poor among Christians are especially powerful considering they contrast so much with loving and reaching out to others as Jesus did.

Although the editing and copy itself is at times a bit distracting with its multi-type fonts on every page, it does allow you to take bite sized bits of information and ponder the meaning behind it. Rarely have I stopped so many times while reading to reflect on my own issues. An excellent read and good insights!

Book Description

Less than 50,000 years ago mankind had no art, no religion, no sophisticated symbolism, no innovative thinking. Then, in a dramatic and electrifying change, described by scientists as "the greatest riddle in human history," all the skills and qualities that we value most highly in ourselves appeared already fully formed, as though bestowed on us by hidden powers. In Supernatural Graham Hancock sets out to investigate this mysterious "before-and-after moment" and to discover the truth about the influences that gave birth to the modern human mind.

Hancock's quest takes him on a detective journey from the stunningly beautiful painted caves of prehistoric France, Spain, and Italy to rock shelters in the mountains of South Africa, where he finds extraordinary Stone Age art. He uncovers clues that lead him to the depths of the Amazon rainforest to drink the powerful hallucinogen Ayahuasca with shamans, whose paintings contain images of "super-natural beings" identical to the animal-human hybrids depicted in prehistoric caves. Hallucinogens such as mescaline also produce visionary encounters with exactly the same beings.

Scientists at the cutting edge of consciousness research have begun to consider the possibility that such hallucinations may be real perceptions of other "dimensions." Could the "supernaturals" first depicted in the painted caves be the ancient teachers of mankind? Could it be that human evolution is not just the "meaningless" process that Darwin identified, but something more purposive and intelligent that we have barely begun to understand?

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Primordial peeps tripping in caves eventually see aliens. Film at 11........2007-09-24

In January, I read Graham Hancock's Supernatural in which he runs the gamut from early human cave paintings to gods, and angels, fairies, psychedelics, shamans, and aliens and links them all together as basically the same phenomenon. In my mind, (being subjects I've already spent a fair amount of time studying) he does a very good job of forming a solid theory with many examples to back up this theory. Basically he is saying that our encounters with the supernatural, are the same, only the outer appearance changes along with our technology and world view, that what we once thought were angels became fairies in later times, and then became aliens in the present. He makes sure to state that this all presupposes that these experiences are real. And if we suppose that they are, then how do we begin to study a supernatural reality. As I said, the book is great and very entertaining.

All in all I found this to be a well researched book of Shamanism and religion. It coinsides with much of my own resarch and experience. At times I found the book to be slow and repetitious but intelligently researched if not scholarly. I highly recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars You have to dig to find the nugget.......2007-09-13

I was very much looking forward to reading this book. I bought the hard cover version which I do not recommend for those who tire of lifting a 10 lb/4 kg weight for long periods of time.

Hancock's 700 pages of text contain a very interesting hypothesis: that psychotropic substances can act as portals to other dimensions where aliens are met and secrets are learned. After the first 450 pages, another interesting clue comes out: that encoded into our DNA is a hidden message (unfortunately that message is never told).

Unfortunately, Hancock drones on and on and on, and on and on again, about his various psychotropic experiences. The reader suffers painfully as Hancock moves from thought to unconnected thought until finally you find yourself skipping pages to get to the next point. Hancock tells too many stories that sound the same. Unfortunately his worthy points get lost in his verbose prattle.

There is no reason why this book had to be 700 pages. If Hancock had a decent editor who could 1) organize Hancock's thoughts for him; and 2) chop out the unnecessary bits (we get the message after the 100th similar story), then this could have been a very interesting book.

I'd love to see a Second Edition of this book that refines his general ideas, whittles them down to the core essence, and backs them up with the excellent appendices and endnotes that Hancock wisely does include at the book's end in this edition. Until then, I would advise you to save not just your money, but really your time. It took me months to read.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best books I've read.......2007-07-31

Graham Hancock explores interesting and solid theories and also by giving strong references.
Fascinating book. I cannot stop reading it. Truly mind expanding.

5 out of 5 stars Ancient civilizations' overview.......2007-08-21

This book assembles a large number of evidences left by ancient civilizations. Written in an "adventure" format, the reading is quite easy and captivating. You'll enjoy better the subjects that you know little or nothing about (since it would not be possible to collect all the details over a so large number of occurrences).
Strongly recommended for those searching for an initiation on the "ancient civilizations" quest.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting book.......2007-08-06

My husband introduced me to this book while we were dating and I enjoyed it. The author, Graham Hancock, has visited the sites of ancient civilizations in Egypt, Peru, China, Easter Island, and such, and has found evidence of similar and very advanced methods of construction, mathematics, and water management as well as parallel legends that originated at these far-flung places.

5 out of 5 stars highly recomended.......2007-06-11

This thought provoking piece of investigative archeology will inspire you to think about the mysteries of the origin of our civilisation. Very well written so that even moderatly educated people can come to grips with highly technical conclusions that are arrived at using common sense and logic.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2007-06-05

I found most of this book utterly fascinating. I found that Hancock's ideas about all the similiarities between Ancient cultures pretty enlightening. I never realized that so many of the myths were so common among the ancient people like the story of the great flood or deluge. One has to wonder if they new about it, witnessed it, or it was orally passed down. This part of the book was great. You start asking yourself how did these similar stories get around the globe? How did the similarities in their building techniques get around the globe?

And here is where Hancock wants you to take a GIANT leap. For him all of it, everything from the stories to buildings to the gods they worshipped came from a so-called "Lost Civilization" that he thinks lived on Antartica. Fine, I can certainly see how one may come to this conclusion. But I think Hancock simply ignores easier theories because he so blindly believes his own with a scary single-minded tenacity. Hancock himself goes into great detail about how he believes that the ancients were great sailors of the oceans. The boats found buried near the pyramids gives this pretty good footing. So if they were such good sailors and were mapping the continents, Couldn't they have also spread their way of life and their knowledge this way? Couldn't it be as simple as a 'sharing of ideas' among the ancient cultures rather that some hidden, unseen, secret civilization teaching everyone their secrets? I mean the ancient egyptians could have easily sailed to the Americans and shared their building techniques and religious stories. If not the egyptians if could have been the Minoans.

I did like a lot of this book but I think sometimes Mr. Hancock is searching for something so extrodinary that he sometimes ignores the very clues and facts that he DOES find. If you don't believe me read his other books. He is so dead set on there being a "lost" society that he refuses to see somethinge right in front of his face.

3 out of 5 stars No connective tissue.......2007-06-04

The basic gist of the book it: (1) there was an advanced human civilization that developed on what is not Antarctica before the last Ice Age when the continent was habitable and further north; (2) this civilization developed sea-faring technology and journeyed to South/Central America, Egypt/the Middle East, and India; (3) these people passed on aspects of their culture and technology which have come down to us through myths, legends, and certain physical structures.

Hancock takes a lot of cultural traditions and archeological evidence and tries to fit it all into his over-arching thesis; it's kind of like a "unified theory of pre-history." True, it's very interesting and true, there are really no adequate explanations for some his evidence but that's very far from making the case. There just isn't much connective tissue here; it's mostly bizarre pieces of data stuck together with conjecture and imagination (or, as Hancock puts it: intuition).

To read this book and conclude that Hancock has "proved" the existence of pre-glacial civilization(s) (as have some reviewers here, apparently), you would have to be a moron. I have to admit, however, that there is enough here to give one pause. One cannot completely dismiss the theory.

It certainly seems possible (and, perhaps, even probable) that humanity reached some degree of civilization before the last Ice Age and all the global climatic catastrophes that went with it. But Antarctica? Even if you accept the explanation that the continent suddenly shifted south by 2,000 miles about 15,000 years ago, why would this super-civilization emerge there and so outpace human societal evolution elsewhere in the world? How would people have gotten there in the first place (or would Hancock claim that a branch of the human race evolved there independent of Africa and elsewhere?)

I could go on but I won't. Bottom line is: interesting but not compelling. It's an interesting theory and might even be possible, but lots of things are possible. FotG does not "prove" anything; it just presents one tantalizing theory to explain historical oddities that will probably never be explained.

This book is the worst e-learning/Flash book i have ever bought. I was shocked by the seriously poor quality of the tutorial examples, it really does look like the authors of this book just do not care. How can an e-learning book from an e-learning company produce such crap, i work in a new media design studio and would never release such poor quality that is found page after page in this book. There is very little actionscript used in this book that is of any real help, again how can you create a great e-learning applications by avoiding the use of actionscript?

The actuall quality of the book itself is shocking, i found so many words missing, wrong sections highlighted (these were meant to give focus to a specific area of text). The book is so disorganised its amazing. From my experience i would stay well away from this book and and from Rapid Intake (the authoring company). What a complete waste of time and money.

Book Description

The authors of the bestselling Fingerprints of the Gods, The Sign and the Seal, and The Orion Mystery team up to posit a revolutionary theory: that the Sphinx and the other great Egyptian monuments are of prehistoric origina and that they are arranged in such a way as to be a giant stone "hologram, " sending a message to us from the silent past. 16 pp. of photos. 30 line drawings.

4 out of 5 stars Fingerprints part 2.......2007-05-29

Basically this book feels like the Egypt chapters of "Fingerprints of the Gods" slightly expanded with more detail. It isn't as interesting or as terrifying as "Fingerprints" but it is shorter and brings a more specific set of "evidence" to the table.
Bringing up Edgar Cayce weakens the authors' position considerably. Psychic readings, though fascinating, cannot be accepted as evidence in any scientific debate.
The authors beat us over the head with the concept of precession, leaving the reader to gasp out "Okay, I get it!"
Ample quotes from ancient Egyptian texts help to build up a seemingly plausible picture of a sky/earth duality and the construction of the Giza complex as a "model" of the sky around the constellation Orion. Descriptions of the Pyramids and the freakish degree of accuracy in their design seem to indicate that whatever they were built for, it was something very specific and intentional. The orthodox Egyptological view that the Queen's Chamber was "abandoned" unfinished in favor of the King's Chamber just doesn't hold up, in view of the apparent care which was taken by Pyramid architects. This would not have been a construction project that you could make up as you went along.
One problem I had with the authors' theory of a mysterious "Brotherhood of Horus" which had preserved technological and astronomical secrets through the ages from 10,500 bc (supposed date of the "First Time" and the building of the Sphinx) to the Pyramid Age (2500 bc) ... if they were able to sustain their secret society for that length of time, where are they now? Such a "brotherhood" should, conceivably, be robust enough to survive and continue to "manipulate society from behind the scenes" even today. Seems fishy to me, and is another weak point in the authors' presentation.
Their most compelling evidence cited is the unmistakeable signs of water erosion on the body of the Sphinx (also a crucial element from "Fingerprints.") Why do Egyptologists wilfully ignore this clear indication of the actual age of the monument?? I'd like to hear the orthodox explanation, which of course is not presented in this book.
One point that is driven home is the notion that modern Egyptology is a religion rather than a science. The "orthodox" view of ancient Egyptian history is based largely on findings made by amateur treasure hunters during the British colonial period a century or more ago. We have much more sophisticated techinques and a better quality of information now at our disposal; why are we clinging to beliefs based on older, less reliable research? In a true science, theories are changed when new data becomes available, but Egyptologists have a tendency to dismiss or ignore any data that challenges what they already believe. There's always value to be found in divergent thinking, even if it is eventually proven wrong. Off the top of my head, I refer to Galileo and Darwin as "divergent thinkers" whose theories (of a heliocentric solar system and of evolution, respectively) were ridiculed at first.
I can understand Egyptologists' professional indignance when confronted with theories from "armchair researchers" who have done no actual fieldwork, and have not devoted their lives to study of Egyptian antiquity. But Hancock and Bauval have come armed with a formidable collection of evidence, much of which consists of FACTS which can be proven (or debunked.) Where is the scholarly rebuttal from thw Egyptological community? It's not enough to dismiss these theories as "ridiculous." Can somebody prove WHY they're ridiculous? It should be easy for an expert to shoot down the so-called "fanciful yarn" presented in this book, but so far I've seen no-one do it.
Meanwhile there are legitimate discoveries to be made at Giza, based on clues found by ACTUAL field work at the site. There's tangible evidence suggesting the presence of still-undiscovered chambers inside the Great Pyramid and under the plateau near the Sphinx. Work on following these leads proceeds frustratingly slowly. Dr. Zahi Hawas jealously guards the area almost as if it was his own personal property ... any "secrets" found there could be of profound importance to all of mankind, but based on some follow-up reading I've done (beyond the scope of this book) I question whether the public will even be told the truth about what, if anything, is discovered.

5 out of 5 stars a most intriguing work.......2007-04-21

Asking rather more questions than it answers, "The Message of the Sphinx" purports to use geology to prove that the Sphinx is much older than normally suspected. Also, astronomy is used to show once again that the layout of the Giza plateau represents the sky overhead at the summer solstice in 10,500 BC, which the author theorizes is when the First Time began. Having recently read "The Kybalion," which is a hermetic work supposedly handed down from the Sages discussed in this book, it actually all does sort of fit together - as above so below, as below so above is a mainstay of their system of belief and as such the layout of the Giza plateau and other pyramids in the general area fit the pattern. While I pride myself in not being a credulous person, I found the theories and suppositions put forth by the author to have a strong ring of truth to them - it does make me want to conduct further research and I can feel the frustration in the author that further studies have been so heavily curtailed.

A must-read for anyone interested in Egyptology, ancient civilizations and alternative theories of history.

4 out of 5 stars The Message of the Spinx.......2007-03-09

Way has it taken so long for anyone to come up with this information. I think for the most part HandCock is right on the subject.

2 out of 5 stars A review of the audiobook by a history teacher.......2007-02-08

I picked this one up on a whim. Having already read and reviewed Hancock's "Heaven's Mirror" several years ago, I knew what I was getting myself into - lots of alternative, well-researched ideas that cause you to think, "Well...maybe..."

The first half of the audiobook was just that. Questions about the weathering on the Sphinx. Unexplained unwillingness to research into what lies below the Sphinx (is it a cavern? a room? a geologic anomaly?), challenges to the orthodox Egyptology's interpretions.

Lots of good fun and as a history teacher I encourage challenges to Orthodoxy - for example, until fairly recently the Maya were considered to be wise sages of the rain forest who abhorred violence (turns out they readily engaged in human sacrfices all of the time), the Assyrians of Ninevah were considered to be a fantasy of the Bible and the city of Troy? - a figment of Homer's imagination. So, putting pinholes in orthodoxy has its place.

However, Hancock and Bauval lost me when they began to use Edgar Cayce's psychic readings from the 1930s and 1940s as a legitimate source. Star charts and weathering are legitimate sources. Not mediums. Come on!

To make it worse, Hancock and Bauval launch into an extended discourse on the movement of stars across the sky over the cenutires (called procession). While this had a legitimate point, one that Hancock fleshes out even more in his book "Heaven's Mirror," he goes on and on with it to the point where I couldn't hardly stand to listen to it any longer. The reader, Nick Ullett, did a superb job with the material he was asked to read, but there is no way that listening to nearly an hour of facts and figures about star charts and mathematical equations will be anything but mind-numbingly, eye-crossingly, stupifyingly boring. I listen to audiobooks to perk up my long daily commute. I actually had to turn off the relentless march of the equations just to stay awake! Hancock's points were made in the first 15 minutes - yet he continued on and on and on and on and on...

So, this is really two books - the first half is interesting and full of legitimate points. The second half is butressed by facts from the mouth of a psychic and then becomes an endless lecture on procession that should have been edited.

Final grade: D+

5 out of 5 stars Look To The Sky And Find The Truth.......2007-02-05

In a compelling follow-up to Robert Bauval's (co-author, 1995) The Orion Mystery, and setting the foundation for Graham Hancock's (co-author, 1999) Heaven's Mirror, The Message of the Sphinx is a true history of a great civilization that mainstream history would rather ignore.

The book is split into two sections that are based on an encoded message in the Giza Plateau that is a template for records of a "lost" civilization through the alignment of the pyramids and understanding the true age of the Sphinx.

With the latter, the authors researched then new geological evidence of erosion patterns on the flanks of the Sphinx and conclude it was caused by 1,000 years of heavy rains. By using historical knowledge of weather conditions - those conditions date back to the end of the last ice age -it may make the Sphinx more than 12,000 years old.

The use of computer simulations of the sky show how the pyramids precisely line up to represent the three stars of Orion's Belt at 10,500 B.C. The authors write that this understanding of the sky was crucial to the pharoh's initiation rituals and - with the Sphinx - unlock the records of a civilization that looked to the skies to chronicle their history.

It should be no surprise that the book was then and continues to be discounted by the majority of Egyptologists. But it's these same researchers who have skirted the fact that it was the science, technology and history of grand black civilizations that made this region truly a cradle of human existence.

The Message of the Sphinx is an important exploration into who we were and how the truth is viewed in a clear sky of unbiased research.

Book Description

From Graham Hancock, bestselling author of Fingerprints of the Gods, comes a mesmerizing book that takes us on a captivating underwater voyage to find the ruins of a lost civilization that’s been hidden for thousands of years beneath the world’s oceans.

While Graham Hancock is no stranger to stirring up heated controversy among scientific experts, his books and television documentaries have intrigued millions of people around the world and influenced many to rethink their views about the origins of human civilization. Now he returns with an explosive new work of archaeological detection. In Underworld, Hancock continues his remarkable quest underwater, where, according to almost a thousand ancient myths from every part of the globe, the ruins of a lost civilization, obliterated in a universal flood, are to be found.

Guided by cutting-edge science and the latest archaeological scholarship, Hancock begins his mission to discover the truth about these myths and examines the mystery at the end of the last Ice Age. As the glaciers melted between 17,000 and 7,000 years ago, sea levels rose and more than 15 million square miles of habitable land were submerged underwater, resulting in a radical change to the Earth’s shape and the conditions in which people could live. Using the latest computer techniques to map the world’s changing coastlines, Hancock finds astonishing correspondences with the ancient flood myths.

Filled with thrilling accounts of his own participation in dives off the coast of Japan, as well as in the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, and the Arabian Sea, we watch as Hancock discovers underwater ruins exactly where the myths say they should be—sunken kingdoms that archaeologists never thought existed. Fans of Hancock’s previous adventures will find themselves immersed in Underworld, a provocative book that provides both compelling hard evidence for a fascinating, forgotten episode in human history and a completely new explanation for the origins of civilization as we know it.

4 out of 5 stars Long but very important book.......2007-04-18

I believe this is a far more important book than most people realize. While the author suffers from a lack of editing and brevity, he more than makes up for it in his subject selection and hands-on detective work. I read the entire book and it was a detailed, highly convincing argument that mankind has done a really slipshod job of investigating our history in terms of looking at the oceans of the world.

I thought the photographs in the book were fantastic and my only complaint is that there weren't more of them! Especially interesting were the underwater photos of Yonaguni which I find almost impossible to believe could be natural phenomena. I wish Mr. Hancock had also put together a DVD release of this material as I think that the actual pictures tell a story that the written word itself can hardly match. The author does actually mention the difficulty of underwater photography in the various locations he travels and this is part of the importance of the book; that is, that we need advances in our ability to image places we are investigating in order to tell the story to the public and thereby capture both imagination and funding in order to continue exploring the hidden history of mankind.

Those who gave this book bad reviews are ignoring the fact that, to my knowledge, modern history has absolutely no explanation at all for formations like Yonaguni, if it is indeed man-made. The author's book is, as far as I can tell, one of the only attempts to provide any kind of real explanation for this. Yonaguni is an anomaly whose only other explanation (that it is a natural formation) is almost impossible to believe.

With some additional editing, etc., in a second edition, this book could easily rate five stars. And the subject matter is important enough that it needs to.

5 out of 5 stars Underworld.......2007-03-09

As Far as I know no one else has informed us about all of these underwater places where people, at one time, lived. As always Handcock makes you think.

1 out of 5 stars Drivel.......2007-02-15

These books are nonsense. Any books whose titles include any of the words 'mysterious', 'secrets', 'Templar', 'alien', 'code', 'supernatural', 'mythic', 'cosmic', are just giving away the fact that they are unscientific rubbish. They are based on wishes and dreams, but we should all know that children wish, adults decide.

4 out of 5 stars The Clues That Lie Under The Seas.......2007-02-11

This is a very ambitious and rich journey to sites underwater as author Graham Hancock and wife/photographer Santha Faiia continue their quest in uncovering more clues to a "lost" ancient civilization.

Through a text that makes the reader part of the expedition and outstanding illustrations & photographs, the exploration touches on sites throughout the world, including the Bahamas, Malta, Japan and India.

Hancock again makes a compelling argument for his theory that global floods that brought an end to the Ice Age wiped out a civilization, with the survivors sharing their highly-advanced knowledge with newer ancient societies.

And that the path may lead under the seas makes for a fascinating read.

4 out of 5 stars Intriguing and Well-researched.......2006-11-03

In "Underworld," Graham Hancock takes on the mythological story of The Flood. Tackled with the same attention to detail that he displays in his previous alternative archeology books, Hancock visits and describes underwater ruins and connects them with the mythological traditions of many cultures. He blasts the socks off of conventional archeological theory that says that civilization began only 6,000 years ago. The book is richly illustrated with beautiful photographs--both color and black and white--taken by his wife Santha Faiia.

Although I enjoyed the descriptions of many previous cultures and the author's intriguing theories, "Underworld" does not grasp my imagination nor does it inflame my speculation the same way my favorite Graham Hancock book, "Fingerprints of the Gods" does. I also adore Santha Faiia's photographs in "Heaven's Mirror" much more than in this book, probably because so many of the photos in "Underworld" were taken underwater and so tend to be bluish. Nonetheless, as with any Hancock/Faiia book, I am amazed at the amount of thorough research it took to write the book, I like that they actually visit the places they write about, and I appreciate the book as a reference in writing my own books.

Product Description

Someone Would Have Talked goes beyond proving a conspiracy to murder President Kennedy. Over 14.000 documents, White House diaries, telephone logs, and executive tape recordings detail how the new president, Lyndon B. Johnson, managed a cover-up that changed the future of our country. A second conspiracy designed to mislead the nation, the world, indeed, history. Someone Would Have Talked was written to demonstrate with available information, the cover-up, the leaks, Lee Oswald, Jack Ruby and the people that did talk, providing a cohesive and coherent explanation of events. And in doing so this book gives the reader an introduction to the history of the secret war against Castro and against Communism during the 1960s, an introduction that is vital to an appreciation of the individuals, and their motivations. Someone Would Have Talked deals with specific people who talked about their personal knowledge of a conspiracy in the murder of a President. These individuals include four men associated with the CIA s JM WAVE station in Miami Florida. Two of them were senior CIA officers, one a veteran of three years of Castro assassination projects and the other a three year prisoner of Castro - and an organizer and participant, along with a former U.S. Ambassador, in one of the most potentially explosive Cuban penetration missions ever conducted.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Superb History, Highly Relevant to 9/11 and Lies by Cheney & Other Neocons.......2007-09-06

I've read one other book that led me to conclude that I had to read this one, both in relation to what is now known about the Warren Commission Report. I consider these important because precisely the same kind of cover-up happened with the 9-11 Commission, and I strongly believe that Dick Cheney should be impeached and then indicted along with Rudy Gulliani and Larry Silverstein and Donald Rumsfeld for the murder of thousands by controlled demolitions and a missile into the Pentagon that destroyed all the computers needed to understand the missing 2.3 trillion that Donald Rumsfeld was being grilled on by Congresswoman McKinney on 10 September.

This is a phenomenal piece of work that makes superb use of social network analysis (who knows who) to connect the dots.

The bottom line: Kennedy was killed by Cuban exiles who set Oswald up as a patsy. Oswald was at his usual lunchroom place in the library where he had reason to be, and the Chief of Police of Dallas is on record as saying they could never connect Oswald to either the window from which the shots were a llegedly fired, or the gun that was claimed to be the assassination weapon. The first officer to enter the building minutes after the shooting placed Osxwald at his usual place in the lunchroom, and Oswald tested negative for gunpowder residue.

Oswald was impersonated in Mexico City, including a staged call to the KGB specialist in assassination, and other trails were left with the intent of proving that Castro had Kennedy assassinated, and hoping to both punish Kennedy for the Bay of Pigs betrayal and for cracking down on Cuban exile missions at the same time that he was authorizing 13 sabotage missions to Cuba.

The evidence is compelling. Robert Kennedy was worried about Castro retaliating against him and his brother. It is now clear that CIA training of Cubans to assassinate Castro was in fact turned against Kennedy.

Three CIA employees are featured: David Philipps who specialized in the big lie; E. Howard Hunt, and David Morales, Operations Chief of JMWAVE under Ted Shackley.

The conspiracy to point the finger at Castro failed, but the true assasins were allowed to go undiscovered because Lyndon Johnson and the Presidents physician began am immediate cover-up, as did the FBI, CIA, and the Secret Service.

The book is compelling in demonstrating that ample warnings had been received by the Secret Service, to the point that the President was personally briefed by Bobby Kennedy, but JFK went ot his death on his own volition--he blew off the warnings.

The cover-ups by the three agencies bear a stricking resemblance to the cover-up of the Oklahmoa City bombing, where unexploded thermite bombs were found on some pillars, and the "loner" theory simply does not stand up. Similarly, Cheney, Gulliani, and Silverstein pre-arranged for the scooping and dumping of the evidence of controlled demolitions from 9-11, and Rumsfeld covered up the fact that a missile, not an airplane was targetted on the Pentagon by our own treasoous officers willing to obey an illegal order and murder their own for the Zionist-NeoCon cause, while also destroying the computers holding evidence of where the "lost 2.3 trillion dollars had gone.

The exiles boasted privately of having been promised additional new funding by the mafia, including the Jewish mafia with casino interests in Cuba, provided they took care of Kennedy and incited an invasion of Cuba.

It is not clear from the book if other US leaders sanctioned the killing. I am inclined to think not. Hoover had all the blackmail material he needed to keep his job. Johnson does not come into the picture until after t he fact, when it became clear that if Bobby Baker talked, Johnson would go to jail for blatant contacts with organized crime and for blatant use of his office to obtain bribes from military-industrial corporations.

In this book Ruby is a patsy paid to murder Oswald when Oswald is arrested and unable to make the theater meeting where he would probably have been subdued and transported to Cuba or Mexico to die under circumstances incriminating Castro. Ruby was probably told he would be freed or pardoned, and money was his primary motivation.

A series of key witnesses who were willing to talk were murdered, and Johnson personally immunized FBI agent Regis Kennedy, Oswald's handler, to keep him from talking.

Admiral Burkley, JFK's personal physician, handicapped and stopped most of the atopsy process, and concealed and manipulated evidence to support the lone gunman theory. The Navy hospital staff received a gag order similar to the one given the crew of the USS Liberty after they were deliberatedly attacked by Israel and many of them murdered by our so-called ally.

There are several take-away bottom lines relevant to today, as Dick Cheney seeks to attack Iran in the same illegal way he ordered the attack on Iraq using lies and his secret authority:

1) We cannot trust our elected politicians. They lie to us.

2) We cannot trust the FBI, CIA, or Secret Service. They lie to us.

3) We cannot trust government commissions, neither executive nor legislative, they are exercises in deception and lie to us.

The author is meticulous is documenting the long list of unsung heros whose personal research has over time brought out the truth. Similarly, I am quite certain that within five years Cheney, all the neocons, Gulliani, and Silverstein will be meticulously impeached and indicted and covicted in the public eye. They may escape to Dubai, but the truth will be known.

The book documents Johnson's offer of a $1 million bribe to Bobby Baker to keep quiet and allow the investigation to go down the path that Johnson orchestrated, of a Warren Commission brow-beaten into validating an FBI conclusion that was known to be false by all conceerned.

The books comes with great note and appendices. The author has made superb use of telephone records, diaries, and known social and professional connections. The only thing I missed from this was a two page diagram of the network as it is described.

The book is also exceptional for clearly identifying additional paths for further investigation.

I put the book down with the strong feeling that We the People need to reject every sitting member of Congress and every current candidate for President. We need to elect a transpartisan Executive team with a Cabinet announced beforehand that also publishes a balanced sustainable budget before election day, and we need to demand that every piece of legilsation henceforth be published in full one week prior to its being voted on, with no secret earmarks. The military-industrial complex is not our enemy--they are simply doing what they have been incentivized to do. Our enemy is the complete corruption of the Democratic and Republican parties, the complete corruption of our election system, and the lack of transparency on how all taxpayer funds are spent. We can fix this. A good start would be the redirection of half the Pentagon budget toward waging peace, ending our ties with all 42 of the dictators Dick Cheney embraces with such fervor, and the elimination of two thirds of all existing secret programs, using the funds instead to stand up a Multinational Information Sharing Activity that supports stabilization, reconstruction, and peacekeeping everywhere, and completely free connectivity for the five billion poor to a global network of 100 million volunteer tutors who can teach the five billion "one cell call at a time."

5 out of 5 stars Very Latest Research Made Dangerously Intelligible.......2007-07-17

Dangerously Intelligible? I mean for the people who participated in the conspiracy! There is nothing sharp-edged about the author's presentation of the facts. I have never read a book that is so calm and evenhanded in its tone and manner in which it analyzes the data. That is probably why Lone Nutters will never want to debate Larrry Hancock on radio, TV, or Gutenberg's press.

It is amazingly clear. It is probably the Tenth Book I have read on the Assassination, and I wish that I had read it first. If you are thinking of recommending a book to a novice it should be this one.

Its amazing that I could recommend it to a novice given the stunning amount of new information gleaned from the very latest research. How one can integrate this new info with the older background narrative so clearly is beyond me (as well as Joan Mellon and Lamar Waldron).

The complex interrelationships between JM-WAVE, Langley , Hoover and the local FBI offices are-- as they recommend to novelists-- shown not told. Nowhere did I get the sense from Ultimate Sacrifice of the writer protesting too much (mob did it , mob did it). Rather, Larry shows the complex interelationships between Organized Crime and CIA in a clear way that, in my reading, does not make JM-WAVE'S denial nearly as plausible as it seems in Waldrons' doorstopper.

The bulleted point-sumaries at the end of each chapter help the new reader structure the potentially mind-boggeling amount of detail. It is perhaps the one book that is at once so advanced and also so accessible to new students of the assassination. No praise can be too high.

3 out of 5 stars Better than most pro conspiracy books, but the conclusions are pure speculation.......2007-07-05

This book is a reasonable contribution to the ongoing and probably never ending debate. I say reasonable in that it is at least well written and organized - unlike so many on the subject. But does it make sense - no, not in a million years. So three stars for effort rather than content !

So it seems therefore I am at odds with most of the other reviewers here. The degree of knowledge shared within the "JFK assassination community" is extremely high and is evident on Amazon and other web based forums. However it never ceases to amaze me how often books like this receive such good reviews by people who clearly have such a high degree of knowledge on the subject. How on earth can you believe Larry Hancock's conclusions is a mystery to me. Surely you cannot.

Why ? Because most of the authors presentation of "what actually happened" is pure conjecture and as such this book joins that long list of pro conspiracy none sense that I am afraid, has deluded the majority of the American public for nigh on 45 years. Forget the grassy knoll and the man with the seizure and all those other HUGE red herrings. All the shots were fired from above and behind and yet - and yet - this author like so many just ignores that and the overwhelming evidence against Oswald. Take for example the quantum leap of a theory that the gun barrel that was seen pointing out of the TSBD sixth floor window was merely a device for framing Oswald and that other shooters were positioned around Dealey Plaza. Says who ? Where is the evidence ? Who says it was a ploy ? Larry Hancock ! Based on what ? Why oh why would you shoot from the front and have your patsy to the rear. And why did Oswald shoot Tippet if he were not at all involved ? The list of questions goes on and on. The books conclusions are utter nonsense and I suspect the author knows it deep down. Otherwise he is deluding himself.

Vincent Bugliosi has written a far more believable book. Buy both and make up your own mind.

5 out of 5 stars Appropriate Title.......2007-05-27

An appropriate title. One of the favorite media approaches to the investigations is to say that someone would have talked if there was a conspiracy. Well, someone in the media would have to listen. And they don't. There are still those who say that there is no really new evidence, nothing you could take to court. Like any investigation, you may or may not end up with court evidence. If what you end up with is something that you couldn't necessarily take to court that doesn't mean that the information, and the picture drawn from it, isn't reasonably accurate and valid. Mr. Hancock's book mines a lot of words spoken in the year prior to President Kennedy's death. The words are very similar, come from different people at different times and places. In and of themselves, they could be the random babbling of some people for different reasons. But the words tend to emmanate from a rather small circle of people in and around certain mob-connected men who are closely acquainted with some Cuban exiles and their case officer/trainers. It's a compelling picture. Mr. Hancock has pretty well stayed away from dramatic accusations and personal theories in favor of just drawing the picture and letting the reader come to his/her own conclusions. Actually, that's pretty much what goes on in court. In this matter, the court is that of public opinion. And the more that the public is informed by Mr. Hancock's work, as well as Lamar Waldron's ULTIMATE SACRIFICE and other such investigations, the more that the public is reinforced in its overwhelming belief that there was a conspiracy in President Kennedy's death and that there was a cover-up at various levels of government. This belief has existed for decades now, in spite of the braying of the mainstream media that the Warren Commission was right. The lesson? Ignore the mainstream media. Read Larry Hancock's and Lamar Waldron's and Josiah Thompson's and countless other valuable, well researched works on this subject.

5 out of 5 stars Kennedy story just doesn't go away.......2007-05-14

I'm always interested in learning more about the assassination of President Kennedy and could not put Hancock's book aside as soon as it arrived. Forget the history channel if you want to learn truth about this murder and read Hancock's book instead. He provides fresh details, names and places that were new to me and I try to keep up with all new books on this topic (including a recent favorite, Ultimate Sacrifice: John and Robert Kennedy, the Plan for a Coup in Cuba, and the Murder of JFK. Couldn't put it down ...

4 out of 5 stars Great Intro to CourseBuilder and Customizing it too!.......2005-08-26

As an intermediate web developer trying to learn to create some interactive, web based elearning I needed a resource to walk me through from the very beginning. Using DreamweaverMX with CourseBuilder and Learning site is just what the doctor ordered. This book walks you through everything from downloading and installing CourseBuilder to exploring the different types of interactions available and then trying them for yourself. It includes a ton of sample files that allow you to checkout the finished interaction and then go through and build it yourself. This is great in case you get stuck or something doesn't work right because it gives you a reference point to do troubleshooting on your own work.

You'll probably breeze through the first half of the book getting familiar with the basics and then spend a lot of time in Chapters 11-16 in figuring out how to customize the different interactions. Throughout the book the authors give a lot of helpful hints and FYIs which is always nice.

The last part of the book is dedicated to using Macromedia's Learning Site extension. This is a great walk through step by step putting together the interactive pages you just created in CourseBuilder to make a complete course. There is also information on tracking student scores if you're not currently using an LMS which is handy knowledge.

If you want to be able to create learning interactions without requiring plug-ins or purchasing other expensive applications to do it for you, this a great resource to get you going.
