As always, J.D. Robb has created a fast paced mystery featuring our favorite murder cop, Eve Dallas and her deliciously sexy, wealthy husband, the inimitable Roark. Although Robb's focus on the single storyline omits the antics of some of this series's more colorful characters whom we have come to love, she retains the flavor of the "In Death" novels through the personalities of her main characters. "Interlude" is a must have to complete your "In Death" collection.
Better and Better.......2007-09-27
I've read just over half of the books in this series, and this was my favorite so far.
I think the relationship issues with Eve and Roarke were much more true to life than they have been in previous books. Don't get me wrong, I like the series alot, but sometimes the fights between them seemed to be just staged to get to the 'making up'. This book made their conflicts seem more real, and even knowning they'll get their 'happily ever after' in the end (they just have to!) there is some serious tension and tears! There was also more on the other characters this time around (and Summerset's shell cracks a little more)
Some reviews said that the ending was too predictable, but even though I thought I knew 'whodunit' I really couldn't quite believe it until reading the end!
Another Excellent "In Death" Book.......2007-09-27
This latest installment in the In Death series takes us into the minds of both Eve and Rourke. Throw in a murder at an exclusive private school and you have Innocent in Death. This book gets more into Eve and Rourke's relationship. Someone from Rourke's past comes to visit and Eve gets jealous. I really liked how in the end Rourke puts Maggie into her place. A right cross from Eve placed on Maggie's nose didn't help either.
My sister says the book has a predicitable ending. I did not see who the murderer was.....

A great book from a great series. How is it possible that this series just keeps getting better and better? Love that we're getting more into the emotional and intimate aspects of Roarke and Eve's relationship.

I was somewhat disappointed in the book because it has less than 100 pages, but it was delivered as promised.

This book has only 88 pages but was portrayed as a novel, rather than the novella that it truly is. I returned it unread so as to get my money back. If Amazon wants to keep their customers happy, they should practice more truth in their book summaries. I was completely disappointed with Amazon as well as with the author (why collude in such a sham?). Better to pay full price at Borders than to go through the hassle of a return.

From the start, I knew this book was originally part of an anthology from the "Out of this World" series Out of this World. I still say even 88 pages of a JD Robb story is worth the price. In this installment, Eve has been given orders by her Commander to attend an off-planet conference and give a talk on homicide. The conference of course is held at the Olympus Resort, one of Roarke's many properties, and most of the gang from Cop Central are in attendance. Seems the big attraction, one Commander Douglas R. Skinner, a police veteran with a 50-year, spotless record is very interested in Eve, mostly because he wants to take her husband down for all the evil doings he had committed in his former life. When Eve is approached by Commander Skinner, she does what you would expect; she tells him to get lost! So begins the adventure of a settling of scores between the police commander and our favorite lieutenant, going head-to-head to balance the scales of justice. Whether you purchase the book by itself for $2.99 + tax or buy it as part of the "Out of this World" series of stories, it IS worth the money!

The Great Omission is a collation and summation of many past works by Willard. In that it brings them together in one concise book, this is quite helpful. In that no new ground is covered, readers of past books by Willard may be a tad disappointed.
IT'S TIME.......2007-08-25
It's time for the church to make disciples and not just converts. Willard's book makes a complelling case for the church to begin doing just that. The book is a collection of previous work and it tends to repeat itself but the central message is clear. There is more to the gospel than saying a prayer and walking the aisle.
Imagine the impact on the world if Christians began acting like Christ. Willard believes that the practice of solitude and scripture memorization are key Christian disciplines that will yield more Christ-like Christians. Both are attainable to the average Christian.
This is an important book for church leaders.
An easy to understand anthology .......2007-02-24
This book is a collection of Dallas Willard's articles, lectures, and essays regarding the main idea expressed in his book THE DIVINE CONSPIRACY - that as Christians we should focus on being "disciples" or "apprentices" of Jesus, allowing God's grace to develop Christ's nature in our lives and internally transform us to bear fruits of holiness in response to our salvation. We do this by saying "yes" to God, accepting His Gospel grace and submitting to Him as Lord, intentionally setting aside time for regular solitude, Bible reading, meditation, prayer, etc. and seeking to conform all our thoughts and actions to Christ's nature. As such it is a much more dynamic version of "What Would Jesus Do?", without becoming a legalistic "law" that we follow artificially.
The chapters are short, easy to read, and the repetition on the main idea helps one to understand it and absorb what Willard is saying. If you found THE DIVINE CONSPIRACY a little challenging, this book expresses the main ideas in a little easier format. I also enjoyed the many references to other books and resources that Willard used to develop his ideas, I plan to read some of those also.
Remembering the Scriptural Mandate.......2007-01-18
Dallas Willard's "The Great Omission" is a well-written and powerful work on a subject that the Western church has chosen to ignore for over a century. Our bend towards easy-believism in the American church has caused us to ignore what our Lord commanded us to do. Rather than seeking to make disciples, we have sought to follow our own path of watered-down half-hearted commitment to the gospel of our Lord. Willard's words resonate with Bonhoeffer's demanding call to biblical discipleship in his classic "The Cost of Discipleship". He challenges us to follow the example of our Lord and to obey His call to each of us. This is a must read for any who are earnestly desiring to seek to lead the church towards proper course of biblical christianity.

This may be a good book to sample Dallas Willard's work. This is a collection of writings that are concerning Jesus practical teachings on daily life as a christian.
Dallas Willard is one of the best current authors on spiritual discipline and has other titles that have more detailed treatment on some of the subjects that are discussed here.
This is a great place to start due to the fact that in these essays he presents the reasons that we can expect a closer walk with Christ through practicing the spiritual disciplines. A teaching which seems to be missing from many Gospel messages today.

I am enjoying this book tremendously. I'm starting to re-think my use of a highlighter, though, since I am highlighting more than not. It might be quicker to highlight the sentences that I don't find especially enlightening. This book is so packed with spiritual insight that you CANNOT rush through it. Each paragraph would be a chapter in most of today's Christian books. If you like CS Lewis and George McDonald, you'll love Dallas Willard. For an "old school" look at the teachings of Christ brought up-to-date by a phenomenal communicator, this book is it!
Jesus was not an idiot.......2007-05-14
I met Dallas Willard at a spiritual formation conference in 2006. During our very brief conversation, I yammered on about how much I respected him for maintaining a Christian presence at USC, as if that somehow lended a kind of secular validity to what I consider his finest work, Divine Conspiracy. A look of mild disgust came over Dr. Willard's face. Finally, he blurted in his rather flat, Elvis Presley-like voice: "nothing is secular."
I stumbled my way out of the auditorium, thoroughly humiliated and a bit confused and not a little angry.
But later, as I re-read Divine Conspiracy, I realized somewhere along the way I had forgotten the whole point of the book.
Jesus wasn not an idiot.
Everything Christ said and suffered and vanquished ultimately points to a reality that is so far beyond human comprehension, especially modern human comprehension. With all our gadgets and wealth and seemingly brilliant, oh so clever thoughts, most of us can't begin to think that the man who traversed the dusty roads of Israel nearly 2,000 years ago with his ragtag pack of interns was nothing less than the human embodiment of the eternal God who created and sustains every aspect of the cosmos, including us.
I urge you to read this book. Read what your creator wants you to know about life in his unfolding Kingdom and how to live it like he did and taught his disciples to live it. Then bow the knee, and get on with real life, the most eternal kind of life, the life of God in you, whatever your calling and position in life. And never look back.
Jesus is Lord. Find out now, not later, when you have to stand before him as judge.
Way above my reading comprehension level.......2007-04-20
When I came across this book I couldn't wait to get it and read it b/c it addressed a lot of things I have always wanted to understand better about the character of God. However, its syntax employed tons of compound complex sentences and large vocabulary words to the extent that I felt like I needed a modern translation. I still hope to finish reading this book someday (or get the abridged audio version) because I think it's a brilliant piece of work.

Although Dallas Willard's Renovation of the Heart is an accessible handbook for learning about spiritual formation, it's not lightweight by any stretch of the imagination. It compels the reader to take in the concepts slowly, underline important passages, scribble notes in the margins, and slowly absorb and put into practice the ideas Willard espouses. "Although there is much talk about 'changing lives' in Christian circles, the reality is very rare, and certainly much less common than the talk," writes Willard. But, he adds, no one need live in spiritual and personal defeat. Rather, the way of change is through inner transformation and taking the small steps that lead one to it. It's a hard read.......2007-09-02
This is an in depth analytical look at the human personality and what drives it. Ancient wisdom really, mind, body and spirit. Willard breaks the human persona into 6 elements (I prefer the trinity version), then breaks into an exhaustive proof of how true change must start with the heart. Some really profound points and observations are made. Worthwhile, but arduous. A simpler and easy to read encapsulation of the same idea can be found in a small book by E.G. White called "Steps to Christ" - that's a piece of work, and so easy to read and understand.

After the awesome Divine Conspiracy I had to check out another Dallas Willard book about Christ. This one is also very good and insightful, and makes me think differently about spiritual things. The kingdom of the heavens is here and now, and because of our faith in Christ we are citizens with Him there now and forever.
Our hearts need fixing.......2007-03-20
Willard delves into the psychological and spiritual reason that our lives don't work the way they stand on their own. Our hearts need fixing. We desire all the wrong things, think about the wrong things, and pursue the wrong things. This book is more scriptural-help than self-help, considering its premise that when we try to fix things on our own, we only screw things up.

Of all of Willard's books, this one was my favorite.
Willard offers a systematic study of the nature of being, and then proposes a pragmatic approach to setting the hear back on course to purity and submission to God. A human being, he says (p. 30), is composed of thought, feeling, choice, body, social context and soul. He states plainly (p. 41), "It is the central point of this book that spiritual transformation only happens as each essential dimension of the human being is transformed to Christlikeness under the direction of a regenerate will interacting with the constant overtures of grace from God. Such transformation is not the result of mere human effort and cannot be accomplished by putting pressure on the will (heart/spirit) alone."
Fundamental to this project is first dying to self, taking up the cross, and living in self-denial (chapter 4). We must then go through a process like learning a new language. The general steps he summarizes in the acronym VIM: vision, intention, means (p. 85). These are a vision for kingdom life, the will to do it, and the means to carry it out.
The rest of the book is structured around a look at the transformation of the mind (chapters 6-7), will (8), body (9), social context (10), and the soul (11). The work of the mind involves being cognizant of the ideas and feelings that drive our society and our personal lives. Instead we should be renewed with love, joy, and peace in the inner life. The work of the will involves surrendering our will to God's, and then moving from abandonment to contentment. Here the spiritual disciplines bring to light our duplicity on these matters. The work of the body means realizing the over-emphasis we place on it and the need to cease idolizing and misusing our bodies. The work of our social context involves noting the use of assault and withdrawal that characterizes our relationships (p. 181). Lastly, the work of the soul, which Willard defines as the unifying factor of them all, is best summarized in Psalm 1. We are to be renewed into new beings who happily fulfill the law of God.
Again, I said this was my favorite of Willard's works. I'm not sure any of the rest of them so thoroughly transcend from the theological to the practical without missing a step. The systematic study of human nature is all-inclusive. He lays out a blueprint of a kingdom vision of what the human being (emphasis on being) is. The very nature of humanity, from the state in which we find it to the place it is supposed to be, is spelled out here. The enormity of the work is amazing for such a readable text.

willard's work is unique from other treatments of spiritual formation in that it examines "why" more than it does "how". you will read this book and understand not only what God-honoring change needs to happen but what it is you are putting your spirit and mind and body through and how that will bolster the change you are attempting, by God's grace.

Life Enhancing.......2007-08-23
I'm still reading this but it has already challenged me to surrender all for a closer walk with God. Day by day I'm doing that. And a new and greater intimacy between us is developing.
This is the 3rd book by Dallas Willard I've read in the past year. Each has had demonstrable impact on my thinking and being. But "Hearing God" has been the most accessible and the one I find easiest to put into practice daily.
Defending a Conversational Relationship with God.......2007-07-28
If I've bought a book entitled "Hearing God", I'm probably open to the idea hearing God is possible. The author spends over half of the book citing evidence that God can communicate with His children. The subtitle should be "defending a conversational relationship with God" instead of "developing a conversational relationship with God.
Practical, wise, and generous in spirit.......2007-05-17
This book, like Willard's others, offers a marvelous fusion of depth and practicality--simply put, wisdom. As always, Willard combines grace and a laserlike insight into the difficulties that beset us. He is neither pedantic nor simplistic, and Hearing God illuminates this too-often-confounding subject in a way that makes transformed practice irresistable.
You Don't Need Ears to Hear God.......2007-02-21
Renowned author Dallas Willard explains in nine chapters and an epilogue how it is possible for us to hear God, or, more specfically, how to develop a "conversational relationship with God." An essential element in developing that relationship is to "live in the will of God." In other words, we WON'T hear God if we approach his guidance just to make sure we are right or to make sure we will gain personal favor.
Willard also explains in his book that one of the primary reasons he wrote it was to help us distinguish between those who truly hear God's word versus those who may claim they are being guided by God, but who may be led by their own ambition. Even our so-called religious leaders are subject to such misdirection, and particularly valuable aspects of this book show readers how we might recognize the voice of God actually "talking" to us in contrast to our simply wishing we were conversing with God or imagining the same.
The key criteria for figuring out what God might be telling us are the "three lights." Willard explains that in determining what God's will for us might be, we need to compare what we think we hear from God to see if that message fits the circumstances of our lives, fits the promptings of the inner spirit, and is consistent with holy scripture. Willard provides readers a clear exposition of these lights and then goes on to describe, equally as clearly, the qualities of God's voice. One of those qualities is that God will not converse with us in ambiguous or vague language. Instead, he will tell us clearly what he intends. We won't need to guess at his intent or his message.
One of the most common ways God communicates with us is through an inner voice. It is a "voice" that we don't necessarily need ears with which to hear it, yet we need to remain still, to pay attention, to be patient, to be humble, and above all, we need to live a life of faith in God and committed to living in relationship with him.

A Great Addition to the Series.......2007-08-09
Again Nora Roberts has created a thrilling story that is all neatly placed into this short story. I took it with me to the beach and read all 90 plus pages and just enjoyed every minute of it as I took in a bit of sunshine. Roarke and Eve kept the pages burning and I thought the story moved along at a fast pace and it was very entertaining. Midnight in Death is a great addition to the series.

I enjoy Nora Roberts but more so the J.D. Robb series. Full of action, emotion, and the punch line comes at the end. Not always easy to guess what is next.

As good as the first..........2007-09-18
Sometimes, after the first book in a series, any series, the quality seems to drop. In a vampire series the standards are very HARD to keep up. In most vampire series the second is always kind of weak when compared to the first or even the third.
Not here. Living Dead In Dallas by Charlaine Harris is great. Why? Not only does she draw in new material, new characters, new settings and a couple of plots but she also is daring enough to make her characters feel real, with flaws, merits and desires.
Sookie Stackhouse is a real person with real needs and real fears. You can understand what she wants, what she is feeling and what she wants. You can't help but cheer her on and get upset when bad things happen to her.
I WILL be buying the next book.

Just as the first book (Dead Until Dark) , this was an absolute treat....
Lafayette, Sookie's coworker, has been murdered and left in a truck to be found. Sookie is of course highly upset and wants to find the killer. But doesn't really get the chance to begin her investigation, as she is being sent to Dallas with Bill to find a missing vampire... She is going to find Lafayette's killer when (if) they get back from Dallas.
The book is amazingly entertaining. You will of course meet almost all of the characters from the first book and be introduced to new ones. But even if you haven't read the first book (which I would VERY much recommend),you will very easily and smoothly be led into the story and will be introduced to all the characters gradually... Sookie's trip to Dallas is very exciting, disturbing and of course life-threatening. Not only she is trying to do her job and stay alive at the same time, she is also struggling with her relationship with Bill. And Eric ..... yeah, well , Eric .... You just have to read and find out for yourself how the story evolves, how these amazing characters learn to live with each other, light and darkness, trying their hardest to make it work.
I am reading This series for the second time now, and surprise , surprise .... it just doesn't get boring at any point. I absolutely love these books and highly recommend them. Paranormal romance/mystery lovers, get this book. You are going to fall in love ^_^
Chaos Abounds With Sookie!.......2007-06-17
The second book in the Southern Vampire series written by Charlaine Harris, Living Dead in Dallas, opens with yet another murder of an employee of Merlotte's Bar in Bon Temps, Louisiana. Sookie Stackhouse, barmaid and telepath, discovers the body of cook Lafayette, but she scarcely has time to look for clues to his murder because she once again finds herself at the employ of the vampire community to which her boyfriend, Bill, belongs. So what's a vampire-lover to do? If it's Sookie, she's going to get herself involved in a strange Fellowship, a nest of vampires with its own sense of justice, and have a fight with her boyfriend before returning to the original issue of poor Lafayette.
Living Dead in Dallas is an interesting sequel; while Sookie and Bill are still hot and heavy, you do get the sense from time to time that things are not always peachy in paradise. In addition, Harris throws in a couple more supernatural beings (maenads and werewolves) to keep things intriguing. Sookie is brave and sometimes foolhardy as usual, and Bill often is there to pull her out of danger. The secondary characters, including brother Jason, Sam the bar owner, and Eric the vampire, all return, and their portrayals receive more development throughout the book. Still, the story is chaotic and rambling at times; it veers off into almost a totally different book before returning to the central plot. There are plenty of loose threads that will lead into the next book and one can only hope that poor Sookie doesn't find herself so physically abused in the third endeavor. Overall this is a good read that will leave you ready for the next one. Recommended for the relationships, the mystery, and, of course, the vampires.
SOOKIE'S BACK!!!!!.......2007-06-12
Our favorite little mindreader is back...with a bang. But this little tale begins with the death of Merlotte's cook and Sookie's friend...the flamboyantly gay Lafayette Reynolds, who is found very dead in the back of Andy Bellefleure's car in the parking lot of Merlotte's. Worse yet, Eric, the gorgeous boss of her boyfriend, vampire Bill, has requested her paranormal assistance to his vampire brethren in Shreveport. There is a vampire missing there, and all of the undead want know what has happened to him. Sookie agrees to help, as long as no humans are harmed by any information that she uncovers; and uncover she does. It doesn't take Sookie long to find out what has befallen the missing vamp...and her murdered friend.
With its fair share of mystery, fun and a healthy dose of lust, the Sookie Stackhouse series is not to be missed. It's not often that a literary heroine comes along with the spunk and smarts of our Miss Sookie.

I have to say that this wasn't one of my favorites, but I think it was me, and not what Nora wrote. I just couldn't get into the plot until about halfway through. I tried. I read the first few chapters and put it down for MONTHS. I thought maybe I was distracted, but when I started it over a few days ago, I just realized that the subject matter was dry to me. Hard to get started.
I loved the personal dramas, as I always do, and the scenes in the delivery room were great, as were the tense scenes between Eve/Roarke/Whitney. She handled that really well.
I had this one figured out early on, but I do with some of them. This just wasn't my favorite, but it was still good.

As usual Dallas and Roark (sp?) keep things moving with humor, mystery and romance. This one was is a little more humorous with Dallas' friends having babies and Dallas and Roark expressing disgust as they help them through the ordeals, but I wonder will they become parents next??? Very good reading, or rather listening for me.
An Okay Read - Hope next book is better........2007-06-25
I have always enjoyed J.D.Robb's mysteries, but I was a bit disappointed in this novel.
I did enjoy Mavis and the birth of her child. I thought the scene had a humorous touch which was refreshing. I thought the plot for the most part was weak. Some parts held my attention, but overall I thought it could have been developed better. I'll probably buy Nora's next novel "Innocent in Death" with a view towards it being a better than "Born in Death". I hope so.

There are so very few books that convey a sense of "being there" when it comes to the Kennedy assassination. This outstanding book takes the reader back to that fateful weekend of November 22nd 1963 in Dallas, Texas and does so in an open, honest and compelling manner.
"When the News Went Live" is written by four journalists who were in Dallas on that day covering the presidential visit. Bob Huffaker and the other three newsmen share many interesting stories that you will not find elsewhere and that have been untold for many years no doubt to all but their personal friends. This is why the book is such a valuable contribution to the historical record. Such first hand observation regarding not just those few seconds in Dealey Plaza, the murder of Officer Tippet and the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald by Jack Ruby, but how in fact the entire story unfolded, makes fascinating reading.
As an aid to anyone interested in the assassination, this book is a must have. I would emphasize - rarely do you find first hand knowledge like this - much of what is written on this subject is written by people many steps removed from the event where fact and fiction merge into one. Not so here. A fabulous book which is refreshingly free of the conjecture and myth that is so common in the Himalayan pile of work on the Kennedy assassination and is highly recommended.

"When The News Went Live: Dallas 1963", published in 2004, paints a vivid word picture of many of the incredible events that surrounded President John F. Kennedy's assassination in November of 1963, as seen through the eyes of four journalists -- Bob Huffaker, Bill Mercer, George Phenix, and Wes Wise -- who covered those events as they happened for CBS affiliate KRLD-TV and Radio in Dallas.
President Kennedy's shocking and appalling assassination on November 22, 1963, was the very first really big "Watch It Unfold Live On TV" news event of the television era, with four full commercial-free days being devoted to nothing but exclusive assassination-related coverage by all three major TV networks (with KRLD's on-the-scene Dallas reporters frequently feeding CBS-TV headquarters in New York).
And the four reporters whose intriguing stories unfold within this 224-page hardcover volume were right smack in the thick of things during the rapidly-developing events -- from the initial sketchy bulletins that told of the President being shot in Dealey Plaza during a motorcade drive through the city of Dallas -- to the announcement of JFK's death at Parkland Hospital -- to the capture of the accused assassin (Lee Harvey Oswald) in a nearby movie theater -- to Oswald's very own murder on live TV (with Bob Huffaker reporting live from the basement of the Dallas Police Department, where the single gunshot from Jack Ruby's pistol added yet another hard-to-believe chapter to the weekend's nightmarish story).

On a personal level, I have had the pleasure of communicating (via e-mail) with Bob Huffaker several times. He has been very cordial and gracious whenever answering the questions that I had for him. His personal insights into the events revolving around JFK's death are fascinating glimpses into the past, and are insights that I have enjoyed reading immensely.
A sample e-mail excerpt from Mr. Huffaker:

"David, you're right about the presidential visit and motorcade being the main attraction that all Dallas media were covering, of course. But all our stations had limited capabilities for doing mobile TV, which then demanded either cables or microwave dishes--as well as a receiving dish within line-of-sight beaming or bouncing.
Hence the pool TV arrangements, limited to three planned locations. The local TV stations did live TV from the FTW {Fort Worth} breakfast, Love Field, and the Trade Mart. But this was, indeed, the day the news went live on television, unplanned.
WBAP-TV in Fort Worth had a non-running TV van, which they had towed all the way from Cowtown to Dallas Police headquarters, and we sent both of our KRLD-TV vans into duty--the Bread Truck at DPD and the Blue Goose on the 24th to the county jail, etc.
This was the first time in TV history when on-the-spot news suddenly demanded to go live from the scene. Before that, radio news on-the-spot descriptions such as ours that day were common (like the Hindenburg broadcast--radio only), and live TV was usually reserved for major speeches, sports, etc.

Relating to the subject of "WHEN THE NEWS WENT LIVE", I'd like to offer up the following observations as an extension of this book review.....
To those JFK conspiracy theorists who seem to favor the Oliver Stone-like or Robert Groden-promoted assassination scenarios (that feature a minimum of three gunmen and anywhere from 6 to 10 gunshots being fired at President Kennedy in Dallas' Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963) -- I always suggest to them that they ought to dig up some of the originally-aired "As It Is Happening" live TV or radio broadcasts from that dark Friday in American history.
After performing that exercise of watching a few hours of the November 22 television coverage of the assassination (in real time), or listening to some of the radio broadcasts in real time (which works just as well) -- I challenge anyone to then arrive at the same conclusion that was slapped up on the big theater screen in 1991 via Director Oliver Stone's blockbuster, conspiracy-laden motion picture "JFK".
Watching the day's events unfold "live" in front of you (or listening to them unfold on the radio as it was happening) should, in my opinion, provide everyone with a good general idea of how utterly impossible a task it would have been to have "faked" so much stuff that was being IMMEDIATELY reported to the world on live television and radio within minutes and hours of the President's assassination (and within a very short space of time following Police Officer J.D. Tippit's murder as well).
Via those original live TV/Radio broadcasts, you're not going to hear a SINGLE report that resembles anything close to the Oliver Stone/Jim Garrison-endorsed nonsense of:
"Three gunmen fired six shots at President Kennedy's motorcade today here in Dallas!!"
What you will hear, instead, is live coverage, as it happened, of a ONE-GUNMAN assassination taking place from where the majority of witnesses said it took place (the Texas School Book Depository Building), with no more than three shots having been fired by the SINGLE SHOOTER, which is a shot count that over 91% of the witnesses concur with -- including the small percentage of witnesses who heard only one or two shots, who are witnesses that certainly don't do Mr. Stone's "6-shot ambush" theory any favors.
Upon evaluating virtually all of the TV networks' live assassination footage from November 22nd, 1963, there is no possible way that a reasonable person could arrive at a conclusion that JFK was shot by three assassins, firing from both front and rear. Let alone arriving at an even more-cockeyed "8-to-10-shot" shooting scenario, as purported by Mr. Groden and some other CTers, which is an outlandish conspiracy-flavored scenario that has John Kennedy and John Connally being shot by way more than just the two Warren Commission-backed Mannlicher-Carcano bullets from Lee Harvey Oswald's rifle.*
* = And Mr. Groden's theory (that sports from 8 to 10 gunshots) also features an additional hunk of lunacy, in that Groden thinks it's very likely that NONE of these eight to ten shots came from the "Oswald window" in the Book Depository! (I'm not making this crazy stuff up here. I promise. Anyone who owns a copy of Robert Groden's 1993 book "The Killing Of A President" can check out Groden's preposterous theory for themselves, on pages 20-40.)
The bottom line is -- Very nearly all of the information being reported on TV and radio that November day favored a "Lone Assassin" shooting scenario (including the info concerning the Tippit murder in Oak Cliff), with very little evidence and information being broadcast that would support any type of a "conspiracy" whatsoever; and certainly no "conspiratorial" evidence that has ever panned out and "proved" that a multi-gun plot ended JFK's life in Dallas.
This is quite a telling "One Killer" fact. Because, in my view, if a vast conspiracy and subsequent "cover-up" had been in place on November 22nd (given the immense amount of TV and radio coverage, with reporters scrutinizing everything coming across their desks and digging hard for any type of case-solving clues during those first hours and days after JFK and J.D. Tippit were killed), I think that at least SOME pieces of the conspiracy would have leaked through to the sweeping television and radio coverage surrounding the two Dallas murders.
And I'm guessing that every reporter and newsman in the country (including Messrs. Huffaker, Mercer, Phenix, and Wise) would have loved to dig up some "conspiracy"-proving angle during that weekend in November of '63. Being the person who uncovered such a huge story would certainly be a feather in that reporter's cap, to be sure. But, as it turned out, nothing of that nature occurred....and has yet to occur all these many years later.
To think (as many theorists do) that these conspirators were so smart and so quick to have had the capabilities to immediately eliminate virtually every last scrap of information leading to a conspiracy plot of some kind, making sure that none of the "multi-gunmen shooting event" details seeped through to the media (multiplied by TWO separate murders as well, counting Tippit's!), is to think that any such evil-doers had powers similar to "Superman".
For example -- Almost every one of the initial reports concerning the number of gunshots heard by witnesses stated "3 shots". And while it's true that the very first report of the shooting from UPI's Merriman Smith (which was broadcast over all the television networks) stated "Three shots were fired...", it's also worth noting that Smith's initial bulletin was not the ONLY "three shots" account that was reported during those early hours just after the shooting.
For instance, Jay Watson of ABC affiliate WFAA-TV in Dallas (who happened to be in Dealey Plaza during the shooting and nervously reported the first bulletins to the unaware Dallas TV audience) is heard multiple times on November 22nd saying he heard "3 shots" fired.
Plus, several other members of the media are also on record stating their own PERSONAL beliefs that exactly three shots were fired by the assassin, including Robert MacNeil, Jack Bell, Bob Clark, Jerry Haynes, and Pierce Allman, among still others.
Some of the other "Three Shot" witnesses who were riding right in the Presidential motorcade itself include -- Photographers Tom Dillard, Robert Jackson, Mal Couch, and James Underwood. Plus, both John and Nellie Connally, who were riding in the same car with President Kennedy.
In addition, Presidential aides Ken O'Donnell and David Powers, who were both riding in the Secret Service follow-up car directly behind JFK's limousine, can also be added to the lengthy list of witnesses who heard precisely three gunshots.
And then there's also amateur filmmaker Abraham Zapruder, who took the most famous 26-second home movie in history when he captured the entire assassination with his 8mm Bell & Howell movie camera -- Zapruder showed up on live TV about 90 minutes after the President's murder took place and gave a graphic account of the horrifying event that had taken place in front of his very eyes.
Mr. Zapruder told the WFAA-TV viewing audience that he had heard two or three shots (but definitely no more than three), and he also demonstrated on live television where on the President's head he had seen the effects of the fatal gunshot. Zapruder puts his hand over the right-frontal portion of his own head to demonstrate where he saw the blood coming from JFK's head.
That's pretty amazing "LIVE" stuff from Mr. Zapruder's own lips (within approx. an hour-and-a-half of the assassination). And it's especially incredible and amazing if there had actually been many more than just two or three shots fired at the President, and if the fatal shot had actually (as many CTers believe) caused a huge hole in the BACK of John Kennedy's head, instead of the location where Zapruder placed it on live television -- i.e., the RIGHT SIDE AND FRONT portion of the head.
How could the so-called "conspirators" have possibly gotten THAT lucky with respect to Abraham Zapruder's live "on-the-air" WFAA-TV statements and head-wound "demonstration"? How?
And -- Could these ultra-clever conspirators have somehow managed to "manipulate" several reporters who were relaying the news live to the world immediately after the event, and have them ALL report on hearing just "three shots" (or, in a few cases, hearing only TWO shots, which is a number that certainly does not favor a "Multi-Shooter Conspiracy Plot")?
Or did the plotters just happen to get really, really LUCKY (again) when virtually all of the news reports favored the "Three Shots Fired" conclusion? With this 3-shot scenario matching the precise number of bullet shells that were found on the 6th Floor of the Book Depository after the shooting; and also perfectly matching the exact number of shots heard by TSBD witness Harold Norman, and also perfectly matching the precise number of bullet shells (3) that Norman heard hitting the plywood floor directly above his 5th-Floor location within the Depository.
Which, per Oliver Stone's movie, would mean that a full 50% of the ACTUAL number of gunshots were somehow inaudible to the enormous majority (91%+) of the earwitnesses! And, remember, Oliver has NONE of the shots within his movie's six-shot assassination ambush being "synchronized" in order to merge together with the sound of some of the other shots.
And yet, per Mr. Stone, we're supposed to actually believe that approximately 9 out of every 10 witnesses somehow missed hearing HALF of the gunshots fired that day! A reasonable thing to believe....or not? I ask you.
Were these so-called conspiratorial shooters so good that they could make 4 to 10 shots sound like only three to the vast majority of witnesses scattered all throughout Dealey Plaza? Highly doubtful, to say the least.
Again -- I'd advise all conspiracy theorists to sit down and watch the live TV footage....or listen to some of the surviving 11/22/63 radio tapes....and then try to find a "Multi-Gunmen Conspiracy" lurking within ANY of those original broadcasts. If anybody finds proof of a conspiracy via those means, please let me know. And let the world know too.

Out of the Past.......2006-04-04
We have become accustomed (yea, verily, some would say desensitized)to horror unfolding before our eyes in our very own living rooms. Bob Huffaker's book brings us back to a time before the desensitization, when we could scarcely believe what our eyes were telling us. I recommend this book highly to those who were there, watching as I was, and even more so to those who were not there. The young, raised in an era of suicide bombers, need to understand that it was not always thus.

I stayed up all night reading when my copy of When The News Went Live, Dallas 1963 arrived. This book is a classic and should be included in the curriculum of every journalism and political science classroom in America.
Huffaker, Mercer, Phenix and Wise have written the Texas story of the Kennedy assassination, the inside scoop on Oswald's murder and the history of the evolution of modern journalism. These four men were Dallas television reporters, on the scene and on their own, in the middle of the news story of the century.
It is a salute to their training and their integrity as newsmen that their coverage under duress stands today as a compelling rendering of those fateful moments. I am glad they were the early ones on the scene, for they were the ones who broke the news to me in my elementary classroom. The story gives their perspectives more fully; all these years later, this book helps me understand the events and how they affected Texas and the nation.
Bob, Bill, George and Wes were there in Dallas with their Southern sensibilities. They weren't easily pushed around or manipulated that dark day and still aren't. They were taught to tell the truth as objectively as possible, and they reverted to that training and their good common sense when placed in positions lesser men might have blown or exploited. These four men cared about truth and justice and fairness and still do. I hope all young journalists will read this and learn about balanced reporting.
