Book Description
A fascinating memoir featuring never-before-told stories from Beatles recording engineer Geoff Emerickthe industry legend who made music history by crafting the groundbreaking sound of the group's most famous records, including Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, and Abbey Road
Geoff Emerick was only fifteen years old when he began working with the Beatles as assistant engineer for their early classics I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You. Incredibly, at the age of nineteen, he was promoted to full engineer, taking the helm for the group's groundbreaking album Revolver. Ten months later, he joined forces with the Beatles for the recording of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, hailed by Rolling Stone as the greatest album ever made. In their constant quest for experimentation and new soundsand despite the technical limitations of the pre-digital ageEmerick developed a slew of innovative recording techniques, many of which are still in use today.
In Here, There and Everywhere, Emerick tells his story for the first time, taking the reader through the hallowed (though somewhat dingy) corridors of Abbey Road Studios to give rare insights into the Beatles' unique creative processes and personalities and provide a behind-the- scenes look at how the greatest band of all time made their greatest records. As Emerick describes the Beatles' transformation from wide-eyed Liverpool teenagers into tour-savvy professionals, he provides a startling picture of the Fab Four. Fascinating and moving, Here, There and Everywhere illuminates the creative tensions within the band that fueled their early success, but would ultimately lead them to record in separate studios while the partnership was disintegrating.
We all owe some debt to Geoff Emerick's self-effacing work as an engineer and producer . . . there is very little that any group of scruffy musicians can throw at him that he cannot put into some kind of good sonic order. I feel fortunate to have worked with him.

Customer Reviews:
He should know; he was there.......2007-09-28
Few accounts of history are more accurate than the first-hand kind, and that is what we have with Mr. Emerick's outstanding book. To his credit, this thoroughly British gentleman focuses on what he actually saw versus what is commonly known about the Beatles. His tone is respectful, but he does not shy away from saying what he thinks based on what he saw and how he was treated. Mr. Emerick went on to engineer and produce some great acts, which I hope are the subjects of a future book. And consider this: When I was 19, I was just learning to tie my shoes. He was engineering the "Revolver" album!
Class Act.......2007-09-17
I couldn't put this book down....what a fascinating first hand account of one of the most infuential musical experiences in modern history. I think you will find it particularly interesting if you write and record music, as Geoff's recollections are incredibly detailed and specific. It's truly unbelievable that he could remember so much of what happened in such picture perfect detail, and it is a lasting testament to critical and often unsung heroics of the worlds best audio engineers. Howard Massey did an excellent job helping Geoff make this material completely accessible to the lay person and fan as well. When I proposed to my wife in 2002 I wrote a symphonic piece and surprised her at Capitol Records in Studio A, where we recorded it live (I proposed afterwards). While they were mixing the music we took a tour of Capitol Records, and when we returned there was a gentleman in the studio playing the most beautiful music on the grand piano. We listened for awhile, then entered to studio and spoke with him for almost half an hour. What a lovely man, and what great music. That was Geoff Emerick. Perhaps someday we will hear you on the other side of the glass young man:)
Thanks so much for sharing your amazing life with us Geoff. As I sit at my grand piano in Maui I can't thank you enough for the inspiration. Warmest aloha from Maui, Tim & Michele Heile
Here, There and Everywhere.......2007-09-03
Geoff Emerick was there for the creation of the Beatle sound. It is well written with enjoyable person information.
Interesting book.......2007-09-01
I picked up this book to find out why the Beatles are so good, and I found all the answers I was looking for. This book gave terrific insight to all four beatles and the camp that surrounded them, though my patience did wear thin towards the end- Emerick favors Paul, tends to repeat himself a little bit, and shows a little disdain towards Lennon and George Martin. That being said, I really thoroughly loved the book as a music student and an audio engineering student, but any fan of music should read this to get a glimpse of the thrilling world that creates the music we all love. I love understanding the context to the music I listen to, and if you do too you'll really enjoy this book.
I'll read this one again, soon!.......2007-08-29
My favorite Beatles related book to date. Geoff Emerick and Howard Massey captured a straight forward account of The Beatles in the studio from beginning to end. Added bonus includes Paul's sojourn in Lagos recording Band on the Run. The interesting happenings their, were not in the studio.

Not exactly what we were looking for.......2007-08-16
Bought this book for my wife. She said there was more info in it about the actresses themselves than the characters or the show. Depends on what you are looking for I guess, my wife is more into the show than the real lives of the actors.
I really didnt like the book.......2007-08-15
It wasnt what I expected and it was really boring me and I am a BIG Golden girls fan!!
Girls are back (they have never went away)!.......2007-01-16
Nice book for all true fans of the Golden Girls. Concentrates though too much on the "Girls" meaning in gay culture etc. trivial information. But even I as a devoted fan got a lot new information about the history and especially the creation of the show.
GREAT BOOK FOR ALL FANS!.......2007-01-06
I love the Golden Girls so when I heard about this book, I knew I had to have it! It's informative, fun, and a lot of laughs! I love this book!
Re-tread fan.......2006-11-28
I used to watch "The Golden Girls" along with several other sitcoms. I really hadn't watched it in a while, but after reading this book, I am an energized fan! I loved all the trivia, backgrounds and insights on the characters, writing and the development of the show itself. This is a fun book to pick up and re-read. It is extremely well-written and layed out with lots of interesting sections and surprises. I highly recommend this one!

Book Description
While many have heard the music of Johnny Cash, few know the whole story behind his extraordinary career and the stories of those who helped him attain his success. Marshall Grant, Cash's long-time bassist and one of the founding members of Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two, chronicles their rise to fame from humble beginnings to world renown.
The genesis for I Was There When It Happened was a rousing speech by Grant during the nationally televised memorial service for Johnny Cash. After receiving multiple standing ovations, Grant was approached by several people, including former Vice President Albert Gore Jr., to consider writing a book. The result is a touching, revealing, and inspiring memoir about the Man in Black.
Beginning with Grant and guitarist Luther Perkins's initial introductions to Johnny Cash and the jam sessions that followed, readers will marvel at how their musical inabilities drove these three men to musical greatness. From Grant's humorous story of placing adhesive tape on his upright bass to learn the notes prior to landing their Sun Records recording contract and witnessing Johnny write "I Walk the Line," to his experience of playing with Cash at Folsom Prison, readers are taken backstage into Cash's inner circle.
"Johnny Cash was the greatest human being to ever walk the face of the earth," states Marshall Grant. While Grant and Cash experienced remarkable success in their careers, the most profound success was their enduring friendship until Cash's dying day. Through the good and the badand there was plenty of bothMarshall Grant shares how John and he "walked the line" for each other and those around them. I Was There When It Happened is a testimony to friendship and to the unique qualities behind one of the most respected and beloved entertainers of all time.
Customer Reviews:
Fun read.......2007-10-02
Not great literature, and definitely the author writes probably a bit too much about himself, especially his contributions to making J. Cash the success he was, but a fun read. A lot of inside kind of info. Johnny Cash fans will really enjoy the book. Marshall Grant will be at the Johnny Cash Flower Picking Festival in Starkville, Mississippi on November 3 to discuss his book.
HUH?.......2007-10-02
I've known Marshall all my life.
I love him and Etta very much.
I enjoyed part of the book. I do think he should have stuck with what he KNEW though.
After he "left" Dad's organization, the story should have picked up after he and Dad started speaking again.
The second hand information from "other employees and people close to Dad" was not fact. It was gossip, and I was very surprised at the "information" he was fed from people that were working for Dad at the time!
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you...
I was not only working for Dad at the time, but around him all the time. I found myself shocked at some of the
things Marshall was told. I'm sad that people Dad trusted in his office, home and on the road were so back stabbing.
I always knew it, but this book made me cry at the traitors he paid very well.
Love to Marshall and Etta though...Kathy
He WAS there when it happened!.......2007-09-28
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The account of the Sun Records era and the origin of the Johnny Cash sound was well written and, despite what other reviewers have stated, consistent with other written accounts.
Johnny Cash's drug use during the 1960s was well documented. There is no question in my mind that Marshall Grant, June Carter, and Vivian Cash all loved Cash and wanted to free him from the drug demons that threatened to destroy him.
For most of the 1960s, the drug use transcended Cash's recording and performing career. Cash cleaned up his life (with, apparently, a few relapses), and his career underwent a resurgence. Sadly, in the early 1980's the drugs seemed to re-emerge as an issue and strain a lot of key relationships in his life. Marshall Grant was one of the casualties of that era.
To his credit, Grant chose not to write a tell-all book as retribution while Cash was alive. It was also good to hear that Cash and Grant were able to reconcile and resume their friendship in the end.
I did not consider the book self-serving, as other reviewers have stated. It seemed to me to be a series of anecdotes from a friend. It was an easy read and I would recommend it highly as a biography of Cash.
From the inside.......2007-08-17
For all Cash fans. We forget that we all have human faults when someone dies. Grant has exposed Johnny's demons that exist in all of us. This, in no way, makes Cash less a great human being but shows the world and Johnny's fans that he had many of the same weaknesses we all do. You will not regreat reading. I attended a show in 1964 when Cash did not appear and Tex Ritter played for over an hour vs. his 20 minute set and then announced that Cash was "ill" and would not be appearing. Johnny came back a month later and our original tickets were honored for a second show that was terrific!
An insiders look at the touring Johnny Cash.......2007-07-30
While many reviewers note that Marshall Grant's writing may not be as scintillating as they had hoped, it is important the reader take this book for what it is - an insider's look at touring with Johnny Cash written by the bass player in the Tennessee Two. I found this book very insightful and easy to digest. If you are not a big Cash fan, you may not be able to get through some of the writers' stylistic nuances. However, if you are a true Cash fan, buy this book. It will be well worth your dollars and time. Thanks to Marshall for providing this for us.

Book Description
Bjork is the most successful radical rock experimentalist of her generation. Contrary, inimitable, and gloriously her own, she has awed her famously dedicated fans for more than a decade with a swooping, querulous voice that has been likened to a glass not quite breaking. Bursting onto the Icelandic musical scene with a precocious album at the age of 11 and a series of releases in the 1980s that notably include her work with the Sugar Cubes, Bjork soon found herself gaining international renown as she released the jazzy Gling-Glo and her breakout solo album Debut. Since then the superstar wordsmith has continued to produce idiosyncratic, well-received works. In 1995 Bjork combined hit-making tunes with her maverick sounds to produce Post, and then after working with an army of collaborators, Telegram. Two years later, Homogenic took listeners on a compelling journey through the outer reaches of electronica. Again abruptly switching directions, Bjork starred as a blind mother in the critically acclaimed Dancer in the Dark, producing the renowned Selmasongs soundtrack. Returning to explorations of herself the next year, she produced Vespertine, an intimate and sensual fan favorite that continues to sell well. Drawing on years of experience covering Bjork and her industry, music journalist Ian Gittins explores and celebrates the creative processes and motivations behind her amazing career and musical history. With 70 color and black-and-white photographs, Bjork is a must-have for her legions of devoted fans.
Customer Reviews:
Maybe 5 stars, hard to say.......2006-02-18
I've always thought that Bjork was just the loveliest lady, but I haven't seen or heard much of her. Yesterday I picked up this book at Barnes and Noble for $4.98, yes that's four ninety-eight, and it is just chock-full of so many pictures and clear tidy text that I am very impressed. It may not be the most in-depth work about her, but it seems fairly accessible, and she is not terribly well-known beyond a certain reputation as being a bit "out there." She's an artist, not a commodity like so many musicians, and it's not what we expect, and people forget to look beyond the far-out sound bite or video clip.
The Words Of Bjork.......2005-03-07
This is a good reference book if you want to know what Bjork is saying AND meaning in her songs. This book has helped me understand some of her Icelandic accent, which I think is awesome. Some of her songs get so twisted in my head, (I am always changing lyrics anyway) that I have to use this book to know what she is really saying. I have lots of fun with the English language, Bjork does speak very well, but if you have a hearing problem like I do, this book will make for good reading.
This book has mostly all of her songs, the reasons why she wrote them, it opens up a whole new realm for any Bjork fan.
The photography is great, also. Bjork is a Beautiful Icelandic Princess with much talent.
there's more to life than this.......2003-08-21
my mom brought this book back for me from london, because at that time (last november) it was next to impossible to find in the states. the book looks nice on the outside. nice oversized book, with thick glossy paper. and the idea of the book is nice, the story beihnd every song + info on the cubes/gling-glo and early stuff.
however, the book does fall a little short, content wise. the information gathered is mostly pretty well known (keep in mind i am a total björk dörk :p ) but the pictures in the book totally make up for the (lack of) content! there were so many pics i have never seen before, and huge, oversized glossy pictures! i was in heaven :)
i was really hoping for more information about the sugarcubes, which is why this book didn't get a 5 star rating! they only talked about the 'cubes, and didn't get in to the meaning behind the songs.
a fine start for a curious wannabe bjork fan.......2003-02-08
I guess since I've been a Bjork fan for a while now, I was hoping to find some new insight into her songs through this book. If you want to learn the intentions and meanings behind Bjork songs, you're better off going to her website or searching online for interpretations or interviews. This book, while providing some solid background information about Bjork, does not provide too much information about the songs themselves. It seems that the author took random quotes and tried to apply them to the songs as he saw fit. The timeline is useful, and pictures are gorgeous. The descriptions for each song are not more than a couple of paragraphs each, far too short to even get an introduction for a Bjork song. It is a good collector's item--that's why I bought it. But if you're looking for some answers, like, what do those bjorkish words mean?, look somewhere else...like the 4um
Bjork Fans Need This.......2003-01-30
A fine overview of Bjork's career, with lots of good photos, and a track-by-track discussion of each album, beginning with her pre-teen "Bjork" effort and concluding with "Vespertine." (There's also a discussion of all B-sides and collaborations.) Mr. Gittins is apparently not a musician--he can't tell a recorder from a flute and describes a sitar as "Indian strings"--but he's otherwise well-informed and appreciative of Bjork's genius without going overboard. Highly recommended to Bjork fans.

Book Description
Imagine having it all: money, celebrity, success. Imagine leaving it all behind -- to answer a higher calling.
Sparked by his work with Sean "Puffy" Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment, Mason "Mase" Betha's meteoric rise to fame is one of rap's great success stories. In addition to performing on such hit singles as 112's "Only You," Puffy's "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down," Notorious B.I.G.'s "Mo Money, Mo Problems," and Mariah Carey's "Honey," Mase sky-rocketed as a solo artist whose languid vocal style set him apart. His debut album, Harlem World, went platinum and his next album, Double Up, was eagerly awaited. But just as he was poised to sign a multimillion-dollar deal with Bad Boy, Mase walked away.
Mason Betha is now a pastor, inspirational speaker, and founder of a nondenominational group called S.A.N.E. (Saving a Nation Endangered) Ministries. Having turned his back on stardom, he reveals in this fascinating memoir the rhyme and reason behind his choice to leave a glamorous life of extraordinary wealth and influence to become a pastor with a powerful message for America's youth. Thought-provoking and illuminating, Revelations is an undeniable testament to the enduring power of faith -- and to the limitless possibilities in a life transformed by God's guiding hand.
Customer Reviews:
Poorly written dull book.......2007-05-06
Fortunately, I borrowed this book from a neighbor and did not have to waste my money on it. It is very poorly written. Mase writes like he has very little education. He apparently wrote this book for someone on a third grade reading level or maybe that's his level of reading. This book is also boring and obviously just an attempt to make some money after going broke and trying to return as a rapper -- 10 years later -- only to find out that his previous fans were also tens years older now, no longer huge rap fans, and and the new rap generation and had never heard of him and were not interested in the corny songs that he was now putting out as a rapper. The reviews that praise this book were probably written by members of his church congregation.
Mase..Pastor Mason, whatever.......2006-11-14
Mase penned an autobiography soon after he announced to the world that he had given up music to be a pastor circa 1999. Fast forward to 2006, and Mase is totally contradicting himself: In his book he vowed to leave music behind and serve the Lord. Why is he in G-Unit now? Why did he say he never wanted to rap again and he comes out with "Welcome Back?" I don't know.
As a whole, this book is poorly written. The grammar is so elementary that an idiot could understand. He probably wrote it this way so he could get through to his old fans, knowing a lot of them are from the streets. I felt it should have been written more professioanlly. I say this because he stepped out of the spotlight in an effort to reach people through God. He already faced much scrutiny by leaving his old lifestyle, he could have written the book in a more professional way. The book does a lot of jumping around; one minute he's talking about sleeping with women of every ethnicity, in that very same minute, he's talking about the struggle of being a pastor, where's your format Mase?
If one can put all the pieces together, they will find that he actually has a pretty interesting story to tell. But, the reader would have to pay close attention. Mase gives us a glimpse of his childhood and how he grew up in a rough bureau of Harlem. He tells of his Bad Boy days and how much he smoked, slept with women, and just inferred that he was a very scandalous individual. Then one day he reached an epiphany and found God, and he became a pastor and totally gave up sex, weed and the typical rapper lifestyle. He started fraternizing with only pastors and his fiancee. He basically made himself out to be a saint, and he could have possibly been believeable IF he had not RETURNED to the same lifestyle he demeaned several times in his autobiography.
I wanted to read this book, but after my experience, I would tell the next person to leave this hypocrite of a man on the shelf.
The Book is onTime.......2006-11-06
In the times that we live in God is raising up soldier like Pastor Mason Betha, who stand boldly, unashame, not compromising the message. The message is very much ontime. People are thirsting for the truth. Here in this book it is given very plainly without any sugar coating. Truly a last day Prophet walking amoungts us.
A Great Great Thing!.......2006-08-23
Mason's experiences of growing up and partying in New York City back in the days were so similar to mine (before I got saved...Praise be to God.) Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
It's a great great thing when young black men declare their love for God and his son Jesus Christ. Mason's life is a testament to the fact that you can have lots of cars and bling-bling, and it can be here today and gone tomorrow. Know that God's love is way more than that, because it is EVERLASTING.
4.5 All Things Are Posible With God!.......2006-07-09
Although Mase is back in the rap game...This Book was a Grreat Read I enjoyed his honesty and i truly believe he has a "calling" on his life! I strongly advise ALL young people and people in general to get this book u wont be dissapointed!

Book Description
For nearly fifty years, the Popeil Brothers' and Ronco's high-energy commercials have been familiar intruders into the living rooms of America-and most homes bear evidence of their seductive visits. Countless VegOMatics, SealAMeals, Kitchen Magicians, Pocket Fishermen, and other gadgets sit tucked away in many a cupboard, giving silent testimony to the power of their broadcast salesmanship. This dynamic, colorful, and amusing volume tells the classic rags to riches story of this fascinating business whose name has become synonymous with the word "gadget." Through a witty, informative text complemented by a wealth of colorful vintage advertisements, stunning product package art, and photography that cooks, business students, graphic and industrial design mavens, and fans of popular culture will love, this book examines the inventiveness and ubiquity of Popeil products through a range of special visual and editorial features. These include: an encapsulated history of the company; annotated celbycel recreations of the most popular commercials; amusing anecdotes about the inventions; transcripts of the alluring, rapidfire sales pitches; humorous quotes; and entertaining facts.
Just like the inventions themselves, this volume is "amazing!"

A walk down memory lane viewing the many O'Matics........2006-11-28
The commercials were furious in the speed of their delivery and at least a few decibels louder than the shows they sponsored. Each of them pitched one or more "inexpensive" gadgets that were "guaranteed" to make some task in your life simpler. The products they demonstrated were "Ronco" and "Popeil", and they still resonate through my long-term memory decades after they ceased to be aired. And I also must confess that I did buy a few of their products to use as Christmas gifts.
The late, great Johnny Carson used the commercials as a model for his "Art Fern" character on the "Tonight" show. His beautiful sidekick Carol Wayne made him appear even funnier because she was so soft and sedate compared to his hyperkinetic delivery.
This book is the story of the people who created the products and what the products were. Without question, the highlights of the book are the pictures of the products and the captions explaining them. Starting on page 51 you see
*) The Chop-O-Matic
*) The Dial-O-Matic
*) The Veg-O-Matic
*) The Corn-O-Matic
*) The Mince-O-Matic
*) The Peel-O-Matic
*) The Whip-O-Matic
Ah, the memories this brings back!
However, my favorite gadget of all is the "Popeil Sit-On Trash Compactor." It is exactly what the name implies. You placed a garbage bag in the device and then when it was full, you literally sat on a plunger that compressed the garbage. No electricity was needed, just a hard and ample behind.
If you were old enough to understand television in the late sixties and seventies, then you could not have avoided seeing the "Ronco" and "Popeil" commercials. Reading this book is a way to travel back in time and revisit some of the most amusing pop culture and commercialism of the era.
Read it for what it is........2006-02-15
I see that many reviewers, rather than reviewing the book, are choosing this forum to indict Ron Popeil. Let me preface by saying that I am NOT a blubbering couch potato who buys any gadget that is zestfully presented on an infomercial. In fact, most of them drive me nuts. That being said, I cannot bring myself to say anything disparaging about Ron Popeil. He is who he is, a gifted inventor and a charismatic salesman.
The publisher's review makes reference to gadgets sitting silently in a closet. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. I still use my Pocket Fisherman I bought in the '60s. My Showtime Rotisserie cooks delicious meals for my family. And although better tools have come along since, even my Veg-O-Matic served a long and useful life. I have Ron's knives and while they are not the pretentious (and expensive) "French Chef" knives my daughter has, they stay sharp and are very utilitarian. I could go on, but suffice to say that EVERY one of Ron's products has worked as advertised and are as robust as advertised. That is not to say that every gadget Ron invented or improved was a great idea (e.g. egg scrambler), but he had the will and nerve to make them and put them out there. This is no small feat, as any inventor or developer will tell you.
But then, this IS about the book, isnt it? The author did perhaps used a little literary license when crediting Ron. But, like BASF, even if he didn't originate all these ideas, he MADE THEM BETTER! I found the book to be a welecome walk down memory lane. It was well laid out and informative. Don't pick this book apart when you read it. Look to it rather for the entertainment value, much as many of us look to Ron's infomercials.
A funky look back.......2004-07-09
This bright and colorful book is a great, easy read and guaranteed to make the reader smile. (or your money back?) It doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is....a look at the enormous success of the Popeil family over many decades and the dozens of products associated with them. The star, of course, is Ron Popeil and when I see him on a TV infomercial hawking the Showtime Rotisserie he ALMOST makes be believe I should buy one.
The author, Timothy Samuelson, introduces the Popeil family and neither minces words about the inter-family problems nor the bankruptcy Ronco was forced into in 1984. Yet, this book is really a walk down memory lane for those of us old enough to remember the chop-o-matic and the veg-o-matic. The book's illustrations (mostly photos and drawings of past products) are terrific and my only real criticism is the use of annoyingly small narrative print.
Lastly, "But, Wait! There's More!" is a testament to the staying power of Ron Popeil. An ingenious inventor, he has re-invented himself many times over....and he's still out there trying to convince us (...)
Popeil the truth stretcher!.......2003-03-16
Popeil surely has a place in gadgetmania history, but to take credit for the work of others is an insult to the reader. Most TV gurus know that even the title " but wait theres more " is the work of the GINSU Guys. If we can't even believe the title, perhaps we shouldn't trust much after we open it. Despite Ron's attempt to take credit for just about everything except the discovery of the polio shot, I found this book amusing. But only if I were to buy it from " Buck a book"
The story of the O-Matic boys........2002-12-21
An interesting, visually exuberant, book about Ronco and the Popeil family. Essentially the book is a twenty-four page essay by author Samuelson with the remainder of the pages taken up with pictures and captions describing the various products they sold on TV.
Samuelson writes a rather sympathetic history of the Popeil's and the bizarre collection of household wares they pitched to gullible consumers, who can forget the 'inside-the-shell egg scrambler' (1978) or the 'GLH formula number 9 hair system' (1992) most likely everyone who bought them. He also writes that the products had 'unusually high quality product design', looking through the photos of the products this judgement seems way over-the-top. Still, folks bought this stuff by the million thanks to Ron Popeil's excellent marketing hype and fast pitched delivery. This came about because the FCC limited TV commercials to two minutes or less and the Popeil's had honed their pitch for the Veg-O-Matic (1956) to four minutes and could not bear to leave anything out so the only answer was to speak faster.
I was surprised by the design of the book, square in shape with three large circular holes in the cover (they reveal three photos on the first page) and pages of product photos, vintage ads, stills from TV commercials, colored panels and text all mixed up but in a nicely controlled way. There is an index in the back. But, wait! There's more, although this book concentrates on Ronco and the Popeil's you can see a whole load more (dubious) TV advertised products in 'As Seen On TV' by Lou Harry and Sam Stall.
Don't forget, never say battery operated, it's cordless electric. Isn't that amazing!

Book Description
Adrienne Barbeau never set out to be a sex symbol and she never intended to become the poster girl for women over 50 having babies, but both those stories and a lot more are detailed in this witty, revealing memoir of the Tony-nominated actress.
This book covers Adrienne's early years in New York (“No one said Mafia out loud in those days. There was always the fear you wouldn’t live to say anything else.”), to starring on Broadway in Grease (“Alexander Cohen swore the only way we’d win a Tony was over his dead body”). She tells tales about her two hit television series (Maude and Carnivale), her many television and feature films (The Fog, Escape from New York, Cannonball Run, Swamp Thing, Back to School, Creepshow), her singing career (“Doc Severinson and the band had been in the audience during my nude foray off-Broadway in Stag Movie”), her romance with Burt Reynolds, her marriage to director John Carpenter, and marrying a much younger man and giving birth to twins at age 51.
Customer Reviews:
A great read.......2007-08-31
I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of Adrienne Barbeau, but this book was a great read. In fact, I had a hard time putting it down! The book was very engaging, genuine, and fun to read. Ms. Barbeau is a definitely a class act; and she seems like a good, down to earth person. That's hard to say about many actresses these days.
A stunner! Adrienne Barbeau is a terrific writer!.......2007-04-20
I have always enjoyed Adrienne Barbeau's acting, but this book has transformed me into a bona-fide fan. Ms. Barbeau shares stories of her Hollywood travels and her journeys toward personal identity and healthy relationships. It's an amazing read -- I hated putting it down!
This book is definitely of a higher caliber than most Hollywood tell-alls, and Ms. Barbeau exudes class, authenticity and humor throughout. After reading it, one will want to sit down and get to know this remarkable lady.
Also, Ms. Barbeau has signed a book deal to write mystery novels! So we will have more books from this amazing writer. Yay!
Better than the standard actor autobiography!!.......2006-10-19
+++++
"I went from being a musical comedy performer to a sitcom actress to a scream queen to a mother and a TV talk-show host and a book reviewer and a voice-over performer, and then back to the stage and back to musical comedy and back to television and concert halls and more films, and even into the recording studio for a CD and into my office to write this book."
This is an excerpt from this page-turning autobiography by Adrienne Barbeau, a candid, funny, and self-deprecating autobiography that covers sixty years of her life. It is based on the journals she kept which she "began in 1955." She "wrote every day for the next forty years."
The above excerpt tells you generally what the book is about. Along the way, Barbeau tells us about "relationships and love affairs, emotional highs and lows, friendships and loss."
Highlights of this book include talking about her two hit TV shows ("Maude" and "Carnivale"), her major movies ("The Fog," "Escape from New York," "Swamp Thing," and "Creepshow"), her relationship with 1970's superstar Burt Reynolds, and her two marriages (the first to horror and science fiction director John Carpenter).
The title of this book is the title of a major song Barbeau sung in the original Broadway production of "Grease" which was "a major turning point in [her] life."
This autobiography is well written. What I especially liked was Barbeau's directness and the fact that you could easily follow the timeline of her life story.
Included in the book's approximate center are over forty black and white photographs. My favorite is the one that has her character in the movie "The Convent" gunning down nuns (or as she says "blowing away nuns").
Barbeau throughout her book doesn't come off as self-absorbed or an airhead. Instead she comes off as a smart, witty, loving, and giving person who, as this book chronicles, is a survivor.
Finally, I did find a few problems:
(1) I felt that Barbeau was holding back on certain details of her life story. For example, we are not told anything about the book's provocative cover photograph (shown above by Amazon). I learned that this is Barbeau's 1978 pin-up poster that actually rivaled Farrah Fawcett's poster of the same decade. Why are we not told anything about this?
(2) Many of the stories in her book are not followed up and this might be frustrating for some readers.
(3) She tends to sometimes flip-flop back and forth between present and past tense.
In conclusion, this is a good, solid, witty, and revealing autobiography about an actor who has been in the "biz" for more than four decades. It is definitely better than the standard actor autobiography!!
(first published 2006; introduction {entitled "The Journals"}; 40 chapters; main narrative 335 pages; acknowledgements {entitled "Thank You"})

Read This Book.......2006-07-24
Adrienne Barbeau's first book is a wonderful testament to a life lived. Good, bad or indifferent she propels her readers to LIVE.
Memoirs are always tough, and Barbeau nailed it! Even if I did not know her voice, from the many films, plays and TV shows she has been a part of, her written voice comes through so clearly. It is simultaneously kind, comic and sad without ever being maudlin.
Barbeau has a wonderful ability to take the reader in as if writing each reader a note about the day to day, and then she turns things that note around. You are reading a note from a friend and then realize that: Yes she was married to one of the most notable directors of horror in the U.S, yes she had an affair with Burt Reynolds. And yes she has had many loves in her time. Wow! But rather than delivering a tell all revealing the warts of others - although we do read a bit about those warts - Barbeau manages to undauntingly keep the focus on herself. While laughing at herself, and her foibles as a person with loves gained and lost, she takes the comic and imbues it with such heart the reader can visualize how double sided comedy is within each us; as when we laugh at ourselves, there tends to be some sadness lurking - conversely she explores her own tragedies such as the passing of her mother and her best friend, and reveals hope.
When reading this book, I was reminded of being lost on occasion. In THERE ARE WORSE THINGS I COULD DO, the reader, along with Adrienne, takes a journey. Barbeau reminds us that when we are lost we seek acceptance, regardless of what that acceptance might mean. But as we lose ourselves amidst gaining acceptance, we discover how within that losing, we can all find ourselves anew.
What is so fantastic about this read is Barbeau's refusal to be consumed by circumstance.
She keeps on going, keeps living, and keeps growing. For me as a woman, what is so particularly compelling about this book, is that she lets all women know that age truly, does not matter. And she does this simply by revealing her life, not by being pedantic. This is a message to all of us, to keep on keeping on. Ultimately she finds the love she so deserves, and rediscovers her muses: her children. Still, Barbeau reminds us that each day is a blank slate. and although Adrienne has found her muses, she keeps working at her life - understanding that with each day, ones life may need some reconfiguring. And that reconfiguring is a good thing...
I was lucky enough to hear Barbeau read passages from the book, and the reading added a wonderful dimension to my understanding of her experiences. Her timing is impeccable, and I hope her publisher will push extensively for a nationwide tour with the author.
AN UNCOMMON STAR.......2006-07-11
Adrienne Barbeau's "There are Worst Things I Could Do" is not your standard kiss-and-tell Hollywood memoir. Although she writes wittily about her affair with Burt Reynolds, her marriage to cult filmmaker John Carpenter, her liaisons with various Hollywood personalities, and behind the scenes mayhem during the filming of "The Fog", "The Swamp Thing", "The Cannonball Run", and her hit television sitcom "Maude", her memoir is more about her personal journey as a wounded woman who ached for peace and joy in her relationships with men.
Her candor is refreshing. She does not flinch from sharing with the reader intimate details about sex, psychics, gurus, and her quest to heal the trauma of being abandoned by her father when she was still a child. The forty or so chapters around which she has arranged her material reveal a vibrant woman who wanted to experience life fully, to learn from her experiences, to heal her wounds, and to grow as an actress and woman.
Though she deals candidly with "heavy" subjects, her style is never maudlin or judgmental or self-pitying. She is able to find humor and farce even in the most intense situations of life.
So read this book as a Hollywood memoir full of juicy revelations if you wish. But the pleasure I got from it was not reading about her career arc but her personal journey as a woman through the rapidly shifting zeitgeist of the past five decades.
In time, her well-rounded memoir will grow in stature.

Thank you, Alice Spivak!.......2007-05-13
Really, it's about time a book came out to help me--a stage actor who does film and TV and struggles to deliver good performances without rehearsal. This book offers a great framework and wisdom about the craft of acting.
great for students/aspiring actors.......2007-04-11
This book really taught me a lot. I am a student who is studying acting, hoping to one day be on stage in New York, however have always struggled with how to practice. It's easy for me when I'm with other people and under the stage lights to concentrate on different aspects of my acting, however when those outside things aren't there and I'm at home, I don't rehearse in a way that is most productive. This book has given me many ideas from how to read the script to making the character my own to what to do in front of directors and cameras. I highly suggest everyone to buy this book...there are always things that can be learned, even when you think you have it already!

The Complete Films Of John Wayne (Film Library)
ASIN: 0967053404 |
Book Description
Once in a lifetime there may come to an author the opportunity to produce a book as distinguished as this acclaimed tribute to the Dukea man as large as the American West he so loved. It is the first book ever to have the complete cooperation of the late Michael Wayne and is a classic production that spotlights John Wayne's West from reel to real through 400 exciting images, with text by Jane Pattie. These visual remembrances, many from private collections, are high points from five decades of his film and ranching careers. There are 276 pages of colorful reminisces of the man who was John Wayne, the film icon, and Duke Wayne, the loyal and generous friend, including the story of the 26 Bar Ranch in Arizona co-owned by Wayne and his best friend, Louis Johnson, cattleman extraordinaire.
The centennial celebration of John Wayne's birth will occur on May 26, 2007, 100 years after he was born Marion Michael Morrison in Winterset, Iowa. This imposing western biography salutes him as a timeless American.
Customer Reviews:
Man Of the West........2006-05-27
This book is a book Mr. Wayne would have enjoyed. The pictures and text is excellent. The true cowboys of the west were not of the moral statue of Mr. Waynes Movie roles but they should have been. Yes he made some less than able pictures but they were rare. And of the many western stars - ie- Mcrea, Scott, Ford, Holden. Lancaster, Cooper, Flynn- they were very good but John Wayne star shines greater and will forever. He was the embodiment of the Western American. He was what young boys hoped to become, and grownup they regretted never becoming!!!! Thank you Mr. Wayne for your life in films.
John Wayne, the western legend.......2006-01-09
For the western movie or John Wayne fan this is a must add to your library. A bit about the man and a lot about his western films, and the films are where the legend springs. Well done with lots of pictures and Michael Wayne's pick of his dad's ten best western films, which I as a fan of the genre, would concur. Maybe not the greatest actor ever, but certainly a darn good one who was underrated for most of his career, and one who gave a picture of the west that, while perhaps not terribly accurate, has endured for decades because it celebrated most of the positive attributes of the spirit that made the country what it had become, at least as of mid century.
There have been few actors that have reached the statue of this man, and endured for anything close to his run of popularity. Recommend the book for what it is, the celebration of that portion of a career that made the man an icon.
Enthusiastically recommended for Western film buffs.......2002-05-06
Enhanced with a foreword by actress Maureen O'Hara, and graced with an informative text by Jane Pattie, John Wayne: There Rode A Legend is a gorgeous, superbly illustrated coffee table book showcasing the life, career, movies, deeds, and memories of the world famous actor John Wayne, best known for his many classic American West movies. Filled with both color photographs and black-and-white television and movie stills from before the firm establishment of color TV, John Wayne: There Rode A Legend is a remarkable tour of and tribute to the actor's life and work, from the 30's to the 60's. Of special note are the highlights that reveal John Wayne's humanitarian legacy, from when he had a gravely ill Navajo girl flown to a hospital 100 miles away on his personal plane to the creation of the John Wayne Cancer Institute years after the great actor's death from stomach cancer. John Wayne: There Rode A Legend is beyond compare and enthusiastically recommended for Western film buffs and the legions of fans of a truly unique actor and his enduring work.
John Wayne...There Rode a Legend.......2001-08-21
All I can say about this book is that it is the best book out there about our national treasure, John Wayne. He is as popular today as he has ever been and it was a pleasure to find this book through a friend. It's a huge book, with great, rare photographs about Duke's West. I had read some of the other reviews, and I was also not aware that Duke was a cattle rancher in real life. The book is brimming over with great art and photographs. If your looking for a gift for a friend or just to give yourself a treat, this is the book for you. I was impressed as much as the great 'impressiveness' of the book.
A NEAR HIT.......2001-08-04
BEING AN AVID JOHN WAYNE FAN I AM COMPELLED TO KEEP THIS BOOK IN SPITE OF THE HAPHAZARD PRESENTATION OF HIS CAREER. THE QUALITY OF PAPER,PICTURES,AND PRINTING WERE EXCELLENT. IN MY OPINION THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRESENTED IN THE ORDER THEY OCCURRED.
