This is more interesting than many other books on the subject. ALso, the author made it easier to understand and less boring to read. Overall a good and interesting book.
Used Online School Books.......2006-03-26
This book was in excellent condition from the hard cover to the pages in between. There was no highlighting in the book. No one had written notes in this book. I was truly delighted when I thumbed through the book. Now that I have had time to work in this book I ever more so delighted. This was my first time buying school books online and amazon will be used again in the near future. I will also recommend my friends to do the same. Thank you Amazon.
Sincerely,
Valerie Smith

Very good for self-contained and early grades.......2007-07-31
I think this is an excellent resource for new teachers, self-contained classrooms and early elementary. It had some great stuff, but a lot of it did not apply well to my subject or upper elementary grade level. There is some good stuff, just a lot that that was not applicable for my classroom.
Every detail thought out!.......2007-07-17
This is my 4th year as a kindergarten teacher and the tips and guides in this book fits all my needs! Every page is loaded with helpful ideas applicable to any grade level regardless of demographics for your area!

my wife absolutely loves it........2007-06-26
I bought this book for my wife, who is into natural health remedies. She absolutely loves this book. She not only learned alot more about growing herbs, but harvesting them and what to do with them after she has them. She's happy I'm happy.
A handy, no-nonsense reference .......2004-10-30
Herbs And Spices For Florida Gardens, by herb gardening expert Monica Moran Brandies, is specifically designed to help the aspiring gardening grow and enjoy Florida plants that have special culinary, medical, floral, and horticultural properties. Black-and-white drawings succinctly illustrate the methodical instructions and advice, as well as the basic wealth of practical and descriptive information concerning a vast variety of plant species. A handy, no-nonsense reference for everything from simple window ledge gardens to involved and complex personal plots.
Extremely Informative.......2004-05-08
I consider this book a must for any Florida gardener's library. The book covers a wide variety of herbs and their ability (or lack of) to withstand Florida's hot and humid climate. Ms. Brandies writes from experience and her knowledge of the the subject matter has been invaluable in assisting me with making a success of my own garden.
Great Zonal Guied For Florida Growing!!!!.......1999-01-18
This book is a great guide to growing herbs, all year long. The fact that it is broken down into the actual different parts of the state is a great help. Being in the herb business for 10 years, it is nice to see somthing so spacific. In Florida, just a few miles means a difference in temps and weather conditions, this book addresses each in its own right.
An essential need for the Florida Herb Grower!.......1998-10-08
This book will be the most used reference in your possession if you are trying to grow herbs in Florida. I have an herb business, and it has been a godsend. Ms. Brandies has not only explained how, where and when you can grow literally ALL the herbs and spices available, but she has even divided Florida into North, Central & South growing climates. For those of you who have been struggling with herb books written for the Northeast or Texas, this one fabulous book will save you time, money and frustration.

Okay, but I wasn't expecting much.......2006-03-07
I wasn't expecting much from this. It seems more like an overview. I read it in one night. It'll go on my bookshelf and probably end up going to the library.
You don't have to be new to Florida to find this book useful.......2005-02-01
You don't have to be new to Florida, or even new to gardening, to find this book useful. My copy is full of highlighted lines of information. The lists and tables through out the book make a great resource to refer to often. What is even better is that most of these lists and tables are divided into north, central, and south Florida. Both general and specific information right at your fingertips in a very user friendly format without all of the "expert" jargon to confuse you.
Wonderful Book.......2003-03-04
This book is so good. I read through it once and then went back with a yellow highlighter to mark things I want to refer back to. I would highly recommend this book. It will be very helpful when we move to Florida in a couple months.
Florida Gardening for Newcomers.......2001-08-13
This is an excellent primmer for anyone moving into the Sunshine State. Monica Moran Brandies writes in a style that makes you feel like she's sitting across the table sharing a cup of coffee on a beautiful morning in Florida. She gives lots of easy to understand details on what soil you're dealing with and what plants can be used for success. She gives lots of information on both vegetable gardening and plants so there is something in this book for everyone. It's the best book on Florida gardening that we have found so far.
Information and encouragement for new Floridians........1998-07-13
Transplanting to Florida is frustrating for gardeners. They have to learn about the upside down year and become acquainted with exotic plants. Too many give up when success is just around the corner. I wrote this book after making the adjustment myself and still refer to it for the charts on growing fruit, vegetables, flowers, etc. It also addresses Florida landscaping for year round outdoor living. Give a copy to any friend or neighbor who is new on the scene.

Great Resource!.......2007-06-01
I bought this book last year while working on a unit plan for my student teaching. I really needed some creative new ideas for teaching literature and I found some really awesome activities! Although this book is recommended for grades k-6, most of the activities are easily adaptable up to grade 8 or higher. I taught two of these lessons with eighth graders last year and they loved them! It is by far the best teacher resource book I own-- and I have many.
helpful .......2007-03-12
I found it very helpful and will enjoy it for years to come.
Great Resource!!.......2007-02-03
I am going to school to become a teacher and bought this book from Amazon. I bought it with The Organized Teacher. It is full of useful reproducibles and great ideas to use in the classroom. I can't wait to use this in my classroom!!
A Very Useful Book!!.......2006-09-02
I got this book out of the library, thinking that it would be yet another book of mostly useless forms, overdone tips and assorted badly-done artwork...but, happily, I was wrong!
There are nearly three hundred pages of open-ended worksheets, writing ideas, report guides and forms, science experiments, art projects, all with suggested grade levels and very nice drawings.
This book would be useful for many different people - from classroom teachers to homeschooling families to parents who want to help their kids write more creatively.
I can't wait until my copy arrives!
Book Description
Imagine the lush possibilities. In one volume with over 200 photographs, readers will discover how to grow an entire spectrum of exciting new plants in their home gardens. This book reveals the types of tropical plants that are right for your site, no matter what your climate. In addition, it will tell how to get various plants through the winter and into the next growing season. Just the thing for the gardener who wants to incorporate the exotic into the usual landscape.
Customer Reviews:
For the Home garden, very basic.......2007-06-27
If you are intending to get professional advicing on using Tropical plants avoid this book, however if you are planning your own home garden it is a very didactic and fun to read book.
Great buy for the Tropical Gardener.......2007-05-27
If you're like me, you prefer beautiful tropical landscape images over reading text about gardens. This book does an excellent job of that, particularly for the price. I regularly purchase books on tropical gardening, and what I don't want is another listing of plants, I can get that from the mail order catalogues. I like to see images of tropical environments that I can consider recreating, or views that show good tropical garden designs of actual plants (not drawn images). For the money, this book is well worth it.
Inspirational.......2007-04-07
I found this book to be well organized, inspirational and informative with beautiful pictures of landscapes and common tropical plants. The book also gives tips on planting in general.
A surprise........2007-01-12
I recently bought 3 hort books from Amazon, this one is used daily.
It's the best if you are looking for straight planning ideas and great colour & the price is right. :)
I can't wait for Sunset's new edition of Western Gardens due out in Feb 07, & any new book by Monica Moran Brandies.
Buy it, you won't be disappointed, along with Tropical Plants for Home and Garden by William Warren.
Not if you live in the tropics.......2006-07-11
This book is not for someone living in Zones 8,9,10 of the U.S. It focuses on how to use non-tropical plants or tropical plants as annuals to acheive a tropical "look". Not good if you actually live in the tropics and want a guide to plants for your area and how to care for them.
Book Description
This detailed study takes us to Gascony and shows the hidden factors that go into the production of a great Armagnac. Insights into the blending and permitted additives are provided. Profiles of the most influential negociants, objective tasting notes and even information on matching Armagnacs with cigars. . Armagnacs from a single year have subtle notes of prune, apricot, vanilla, spice and nuts converging into heavenly bouquets. Biographies and reviews of 140 producers and negociants, the precise differences between Cognac and Armagnac and tasting notes of over 750 vintages are provided.
Customer Reviews:
Fills a huge void very well.......2007-01-10
This book fills the void for quality information on Armagnac very well. The book offers detailed information on the grapes, techniques, and region for the production of Armagnac generally as well as specifics about a very large percentage if not all of the producers of Armagnac. The only reason I gave this book four out of five stars is the production quality of some of the graphics and text describing them, is not top rate. Also if you are looking for a coffee table book this is probably not for you. This is a serious read and reference for enthusiasts of Armagnac. Highly recommended.
Outstanding resourse for any lover of brandy.......2000-07-11
Although this volume is dedicated to the appreciation of armagnac, it is the most informative single volume I've found on French brandy in general. Compared to the glossy photo-filled guidebooks on cognac, it might appear a bit crude with its black-and-white photos and idiosyncratic text. But it is packed with the kind of straightforward, unvarnished information about armagnac and cognac -- production techniques, additives, relative sales volume -- that is altogether missing from those prettier books, yet is absolutely essential for understanding the fundamental differences between these two wonderful brandies. Mr. Neal has an insider's knowledge (and strong opinions), but is generally evenhanded in his treatment of the relative merits of armagnac and cognac. His thumbnail reviews of a voluminous number of specific bottlings and vintages are an indispensible purchasing guide, even if many of them are (sadly) not available beyond the estates where they are distilled and bottled. Overall, an essential addition to the brandy-lover's library.
An excellent overview, especially for the novice.......1999-09-21
If you've only heard about, or had a taste of, the excellent alternative to cognac, this book will give you the big picture beautifully. Growers and producers are discussed at some length, there's excellent info on the region and its customs, and there is special attention given to some of the more technical aspects of production and character. The photos are a little dark, but the text is so lively they're almost superfluous. If you're intrigued by the topic or want to know more, this is the resource you need.
Finally someone provides an overview of the Armagnac region.......1999-05-24
This book has (some) values for all Armagnac-interested persons. For the novice will it provide ample information about Armagnac (what is it, where is it, etc) and for the 'half-pro', many tasting notes and details of producers. For a 'professional' Armagnac drinker, however, the details about the individual producers are somewhat lacking; also it suffers from the absolute lack of color pictures (only b/w), but all-in-all recommendable (basically since no other documentation on the subject exists)
Book Description
Having it "made in the shade" can be a challenge, if you're a gardener. Lawns, roses, and some flowering plants may not thrive or bloom as well there as in full sun. But there are many colorful foliage and flowering plants that absolutely love the shade. Learn what you can plant in different kinds of shade--deep, dappled, or somewhere in between--and how to maintain your trees and landscape to keep the level of shade you want, whether your goal is to create a garden that evokes a tropical jungle or a woodland forest. Plant directory with color photos, bibliography, index.

fun read.......2006-09-05
I have only recently discovered the "Murder She Wrote" books last year (I don't know where I've been either) and "Brandy and Bullets" is an enjoyable read. Its plot, although slow at times, is interesting. I enjoyed how Donald Bain created a cozy, but treacherous world in Cabot Cove for this outing. The characters seem one-dimensional, but I'm always happy to see Ms. Jessica poking around, hunting for clues. I am somewhat surprised at how readers reacted to this book. But I guess to each their own. Keep up the great work, Mr. Bain. I am looking forward to THREE STRIKES AND YOU'RE DEAD in October. I like baseball, too.
Just as enjoyable as the others!.......2006-01-04
From the other reviews, this was not a favorite book (for some people). However, I liked it just as much as the other books I have read. I have read 8 so far and plan to read the entire series. I'm not sure which one is my favorite.
I thought the book was suspensful and quick moving. I especially liked the part with the hypnosis. The retreat reminded me of a cult. I read it over Christmas break and the two blizzards and ice storm made me feel extra cozy.
I don't think most fans of Bains' books would find this book dissapointing. It just makes me all the more eager to read the next one one on my list--Murder on the QE2.
By the way, my mom and sister LOVE these books as much as me. There is something nice about starting a book you know you will finish and enjoy.
This Was Awful!.......2004-07-31
As a long time fan of Murder She Wrote there is only one word to describe this novel, awful! It would seem that this book was written by someone who had never read the rest of the series. The plot consisted of hypnotism and a bizarre government mind-control conspiracy, I kept waiting for the logical solution but it never came! The recurring characters didn't ring true and some were missing altogether (like the Sheriffs wife Maureen). All in all, not only don't I recommend reading this book, I strongly recommend not reading this book!
On a Happier Note, if you read and were disapointed in this book don't let it disillusion you try: Gin and Daggers or Murder on the QE2!
One you shoul over-look........2003-11-16
This book too slow. At first it seemed like a great read. But then, right after the Thanksgiving scene, it goes downhill.
When a large mansion in Cabot Cove, is being made into a retreat for all kinds of artists, it is met with much resistance. The towns-people act just like stereo-typical hicks. I think it was over-done. Then artists start to drop, and Jessica starts snooping {of course}. The ending had a lot of potential, but occured far too fast. Read some other books in the series, before trying this one.
Not as interesting as I had hoped it would be.......2002-01-11
Based on the television series "Murder, She Wrote" starring great actress Angela Lansbury, "Brandy and Bullets" is the third book published. The stories are centered on the famous mystery writer Jessica Fletcher who always manages somehow to get involved in a murder.
"Brandy and Bullets" takes place in Jessica Fletcher's hometown of Cabot Cove, Maine, where some very interesting events are taking place. The Worrell mansion is being turned into a retreat for a variety of musicians, artists, writers, and other artistic people. Cabot Cove does not know what to make of it, some against it, others, like Jessica, are all for it. But strange things begin to happen, like a mysterious suicide. Then another attempted suicide, then one of Jessica's dear friend disappears. What is going on? Jessica's interest is piqued and she is determined to find out, except she does not entirely realize that she is putting her own life at stake...
Since this is the first and only "Murder, She Wrote" book I've read, I cannot compare it with any of the other books in the series. But I must confess, I was a little disappointed. First of all, it wasn't really a murder mystery, nothing interesting really took place. And plus it wasn't as suspenseful and exciting like the TV series. But in its defense I must say that the conclusion was pretty surprising, but of course I won't say anymore to spoil it.
I still might try another one of the "Murder, She Wrote" books, "Blood of the Vine" probably because that sounds the most interesting. But if you are thinking of reading any of the books, I suggest you pass up "Brandy and Bullets" and read some other ones first.
