It never Fails.......2007-05-27
Nora Roberts never fails to write a wonderfully creative and entertaining story that sweeps the reader into another world full of wit, humor, romance and love. These two emotionally packed novels show that Nora will always be able to catch a readers heart in the first few lines. With her obvious love of anything Irish, Nora takes the reader on a journey with a single mother of two trying to support herself and her family in the midst of question of he supposed wealth from her late husband in "The Last Honest Woman". Following is an account of a stage actress in "Dance to the Piper" who finds love in an unknown man who may ultimately be responsible for the success or failure of her current acting project. These two come highly recommended and if you are a fan of Nora's family stories, be sure not to miss the two other stories in this series Skin Deep and Without a Trace (found in O'Hurley's Return).
Oldie But Goodie.......2006-10-21
This book contains the first 2 out of 4 stories about the dynamic O'Hurley family.
In the first book, Last Honest Woman, we meet Abby the middle triplet. She is a widow of many years raising two sons on a struggling horse farm. She has consented to let writer Dylan Crosby stay on her farm and write her deceased husbands biography in order to make some money. First Dylan has to decipher whats fact and whats fiction. A good start to the series.
In the second story, Dance To The Piper, we meet the youngest triplet, Maddy. She is a broadway star who is falling for her shows money man, Reed Valentine. These two couldn't be more opposite but you will be rooting for them all the way.
You will fall in love with the O'Hurley's and look forward to the next book that contains oldest triplet Chantel and big brother Trace's stories. This is old Nora, but a great read.
Loved it!.......2006-08-15
In the book "The Last Honest Woman" we meet Abby, the middle triplet, who has had a rough marriage, and is now ready to talk about it. She agrees to be intreviewed on a book being written on her ex-husband who was killed in a race car accident. She opens her home, and the story of her life to sexy, hot Dylan Crosby. Abby is surprised when she starts feeling attracted to him because even though she agreed to tell Dylan Crosby about her rough marriage doesn't mean she's willing to tell the whole truth. As Dylan pushes Abby to tell him her darkest secret she starts to fall in love with him, and Dylan realizes he wont be able to type up the whole truth about Abby's life, for the reasons that he loves her, and can't bare to hurt her sons. This book was amazing, I loved how Nora kept you guessing as to what was Abby's secret, and why she didn't want anyone to find it out.
In the book "Dance to the Piper" we meet Maddy the youngest tripplet, whose is at the top of her career, about to star in a big, hit Broadway production thats being backed by Valentine records, Reed Valentine. Throughout the book, Maddy and Reed develop a relationship, that Reed doesn't want to be any part of. As Maddy falls in love with Reed, Reed has a difficult time believing that love is a real thing. As Maddy stuggles to be patient with Reed, and wonders why he doesn't believe in love, Reed tries to distant himself, not wanting to trust her. The problem with Reed is that he can't trust women after the betrayal he faced as a young kid. The story keeps you captivated and wondering what happen to Reed as a child, that he cant trust women. It also keep you guessing if Reed is ever going to realize he is in love and just accept it, or ruin everything between him and Maddy by pushing her away.
I definitely recomend you read these books, I thought they were great stories and I cant wait to read the other two, because throughout these books Nora dropped hints that Chantel had being recieving creepy calls, and I'm wondering what is going to happen in the third book. Hope you enjoy reading them.
Born O'Hurley.......2006-07-01
I actually read the 2nd set of books 1st & then wanted to read the 1st set. These are really good books. Make sure you get all 4 of the O'Hurley's stories there great.
A complete mockery and repitition.......2006-06-09
if you've read old nora robert book's then you know what i'm talking about, it's not just this book, but all her books together, they have the same ultimate plot. it's basically like this; Either the hero or heroine know each other or they are introduced, then they act like they aren't attracted to each other, then the guy does something to make the gal go to bed with him, then they face some trials, like a killer coming closer or people opposed to heir love, then there's talk about marriage, and la-di-da, the nora roberts novel is complete!
i tried at least 16 of her books before i was convinced of this, i actually thought she could change so i kept buying and buying, i'm basically tired of the same plot and i've decided that i'll either burn these books or sell em, nora needs more imagination, wait lemme rephrase that, she needs a "LOT MORE IMAGINATION AND A LIFE".
So please nora, go watch more harry potter or something, even billy and mandy would give you a beautiful lesson in magination, most of your books are about sex.

Phenomenal Book.......2007-09-26
I am blessed with a wonderful husband of 12 yrs., six children and a Master's of Theology degree from University of Dallas. Even so, I remain amazed and personally challenged by the spiritual and intellectual clarity found in West's book. Seriously, it is a must-read for anyone old enough to approach the topic of sex.
To the point.......2007-09-26
Well written and to the point. Author does not shy away from answering pointed questions with the truth no matter how difficult it might be to hear.
Great reading even for Protestants.......2007-09-09
Let me begin by saying I am Protestant, reformed baptist to be exact. Beginning the book was mainly out of curiosity for what was the Catholic understanding (which I did not think I would be sympathetic to). I was however, very wrong. While there is a fair amount Catholic beliefs that have to be waded through, this book has revolutionized my understanding. It gives the best biblical description and basis for sex and the best practical applications for having redeemed sex that I've read (which as a single young man who is more than a bit obsessive concerning sex, is a fair amount). This book has become the wedding gift I will give to married couples, and the book that any girl I seriously considered marrying would have to read, understand and accept before I would become one flesh with.
Sex, how God intended it to be........2007-08-10
Mr. West does an awesome job of explaining Pope John Paul The Great's Theology of the Body in this Q & A format. Everyone, whether Catholic or Protestant, Muslim or Jew, would benefit from reading it and discovering just what God's plan is for us in the beautiful realm of sexuality. It should be obvious to us...doesn't God always know best? He INVENTED sex after all didn't He?
Great for anyone!.......2007-05-13
This book is a great guide for anyone looking to find happiness in their relationship. For Catholics it's a well laid out interpretation of Catholic teachings that will help guide you on the right path and it's especially helpful on answering questions for significant others who may have difficulty understanding why these teachings are so important to their Catholic spouses. This book will challenge your relationship, but through those challenges lies the key to having a long and happy relationship.

Avoid the booty call blues and get the love -- and sex -- you deserve!
Come on. Admit it. He may not be that into you, but were you ever really that into him? He was never "the one," but you lowered your standards and dated him in the meantime. Why? For any number of reasons: you were lonely, you were horny, you thought dating him was better than being alone, all your friends are getting married -- you name it. And before you knew it, you got hung up on the jerk. Go figure.
The world is full of sensational women, but in today's market there are too few good men to go around (or so it appears). Now DR. IAN KERNER, clinical sexologist and author of the smash hit SHE COMES FIRST, explores the battlefield of sex, hook ups, go-nowhere relationships, and the dismal dating treadmill, simultaneously arming women with a sharper set of insights and the tools for change. With humor and sincerity, Kerner shows women how to break the cycle of dating defeat and use the power of sex to find love, "with a great guy who is into you." So raise your standards -- and reach for the love you deserve!

This is like a another version of He Is Just Not That Into You...but the girls' version...a good book to put past relationships into perspective and even the relationship you are currently in! Must read to stop making the same mistakes and losing years on life with the WRONG person!
Lost me by page 20.......2007-05-09
I read the book by the other author first "He's just not that into you", and wanted more of the same thing so I bought this book. Not even close. I still have my bookmark between pages 20 and 21 and I bought the book 5 months ago. Not a great read by any means.
Of Course I'm Not Into Him.......2006-12-22
in-the-meantime guys serve a purpose, which is why they are named that
why would u want to get rid of them waiting on the right man? you'll be so depressed from sittin in the house bored, nobody will want you when you do get out
Honesty is the best policy, even if it hurts.......2006-12-13
Sure this book set me into tears quite a few times but that is because I swear it was written about me! Finally someone, a man at that, who totally understands and can explain how women and men feel about sex and relationships. It's brutally honest but you will feel better about yourself and the choices you've made by the end of the book. The "other" book shoots down your self confidence and this one boosts it. A wonderful must read for single girls.
Funny, but has an unclear theme.......2006-07-24
Kerner's book has a lot going for it - it's funny, it provides a man's point of view, and has some good information about sex and male/female differences. As you read the book, you grow to like Kerner a little. And the professed theme of the book, which advises women to stop settling and to wait for the real thing, is a REALLY important message that more women's books need to focus on.
On the downside, I had a hard time getting clear on what exactly Kerner's point was. He seemed to tell women to not settle, but then talked quite a bit about sex (he's a sex therapist) and provided a chapter written by his wife about meeting him. The book seemed to give you an overview and make you laugh, rather than really dive into the more meaty topic of raising your standards.
Overall, a decent book and worth a read. But not a classic.

Book Description
The Venetian courtesan has long captured the imagination as a female symbol of sexual license, elegance, beauty, and unruliness. What then to make of the cortigiana onesta—the honest courtesan who recast virtue as intellectual integrity and offered wit and refinement in return for patronage and a place in public life? Veronica Franco (1546-1591) was such a woman, a writer and citizen of Venice, whose published poems and familiar letters offer rich testimony to the complexity of the honest courtesan's position.
Margaret F. Rosenthal draws a compelling portrait of Veronica Franco in her cultural social, and economic world. Rosenthal reveals in Franco's writing a passionate support of defenseless women, strong convictions about inequality, and, in the eroticized language of her epistolary verses, the seductive political nature of all poetic contests. It is Veronica Franco's insight into the power conflicts between men and women—and her awareness of the threat she posed to her male contemporaries—that makes her literary works and her dealings with Venetian intellectuals so pertinent today.
Combining the resources of biography, history, literary theory, and cultural criticism, this sophisticated interdisciplinary work presents an eloquent and often moving account of one woman's life as an act of self-creation and as a complex response to social forces and cultural conditions.
"A book . . . pleasurably redolent of Venice in the 16th-century. Rosenthal gives a vivid sense of a world of salons and coteries, of intricate networks of family and patronage, and of literary exchanges both intellectual and erotic."—Helen Hackett, Times Higher Education Supplement
The Honest Courtesan is the basis for the film Dangerous Beauty (1998) directed by Marshall Herskovitz. (The film was re-titled The Honest Courtesan for release in the UK and Europe in 1999.)
Customer Reviews:
disappointed.......2007-05-16
I was hoping to find out about the remarkable life of Veronica Franco but instead was pummeled with quotes, references, repetition, and a string of Italian phrases. There's no doubt that this book is Rosenthal's dissertation. Hopefully one day it will be edited and condensed to 1/5 of its size.
Unequivically biased.......2005-11-27
Unfortunately I bought this book hoping that it would uncover more historical data and the actual works of Veronica Franco translated by a scholar in the field.
That was not the case.
The author used her college dissertation to make a book on a very important aspect of history when her dissertation would have been best served if it stayed at her college.
The author takes liberty to interpret Ms. Franco's works and for the reader it is a logistical nightmare. She first gives her statement as if fact at times which makes the facts (Veronica's actual works) seem secondary. Then she would have the Italian verse, followed by a translation.
Wow! do I feel very side tracked here.
I wouldn't even accept this for a dissertation!
Sorry, it doesn't work out in terms of literary flow, factual data or interesting storyline.
A difficult tome.......2005-07-11
After seeing "Dangerous Beauty" I became curious about the distinctive life style of Renaissance Venice, and hoped to learn a lot more. This book was just a bit too dry and scholarly for casual reading. A great deal of space is used for both the Italian and English translations, which must be interesting to some readers. Although Veronica comes across as intelligent, determined and brave, I would have wished to know more about her and her society in terms of food, clothing, houses, daily activities, etc. Perhaps not enough is known about Veronica herself, but I would hope that a gifted author somewhere could make her story into a novel and breathe some warmth and life into her legend.
5 star history; 2 star read.......2004-07-22
This book is a must read if you're interested in 16th century Venice, Veronica Franco, or the world of the famous Venetian courtesans. It's also an EXTREMELY dry read. The book is quite obviously a doctoral dissertation, and could have used an edit to made it more accessible (something more along the lines of Stephen Ozment's books). I'm glad I read it. I tracked it down because I wanted to see just how accurate the movie Dangerous Beauty--which is LOOSELY based on this book--was. The answer is: Not very. Oh well. For those of a scholarly bent, this is a great resource book, for those looking for a light, romantic read (a la the movie) look elsewhere.
Excellent, but a little slow.......2003-01-16
I greatly enjoyed this book, but I found that wading through 16th century Venetian dialect was difficult. If you are looking for an entertaining story biography, look elsewhere, but if you want a dissertation-style biography, you will enjoy this, as I did.

Part Peter Rabbit, part Velveteen Rabbit, Jeremy is a gentle little tale of a handmade bunny with honesty sewn right in. Lovingly crafted by a young woman in England, Jeremy knows he is destined for America. But rather than be shipped off in a cardboard box, he decides to make the journey himself. With the help of a lonely old man named Mr. Pruneholt, a sea captain and his noisy parrot, and a sweet but slightly barmy old woman called the Village Dear, Jeremy makes his way across the sea and into North Carolina. Along the way he dodges grabby children, a hungry fox, and finds an unlikely friend in an owl. Written as a kind of allegory for a favorite psalm of the author's, the tale is also a mini-Odyssey, complete with a sea crossing, beastly obstacles, and the promise of home at the end of the peregrinations.
Jan Karon is the author of the bestselling Mitford Years series, including At Home in Mitford. Teri Weidner's adorable depictions of plaid-trousered Jeremy and his friends and foes are sure to appeal to children from England to North Carolina and beyond. (Ages 7 to 10) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
When it is time for Jeremy, a handmade English bunny, to be sent to his true home in America, he refuses to be shipped in a box. So he sets out to deliver himself to the little girl who eagerly awaits him. Jeremy's journey begins with a prayer and some handy words of advice from his maker. Along the way he encounters friends in many forms, and all the adventures he has lead him, eventually, to his final destination-home.
Illustrated by Teri Weidner.

Jeremy: Tale of an Honest Bunny.......2007-01-10
A must for school libraries, an excellent lesson on morals.
Not that impressed.......2004-12-10
I love books. I love children's books and love reading to my grandchildren. I must say that I was not all that impressed with this book. The physical look of the book is gorgeous. It is a high quality hardback with adorable, charming pictures. But I just couldn't get into the story line. I certainly don't see it in the same category as classics like Peter Rabbit and the Velveteen Rabbit. I bought it to read to my four and five year old grandchildren. I just can't see them sitting still for that whole story. I couldn't even get through it in one sitting myself. I think it is too long for a reading session for children who can't read yet and I don't think it would hold the interest of children old enough to read for themselves, so I'm not sure what the target age would be. I am obviously in the minority with this opinion, but as one who has read tons of books to my own children, as a substitute teacher and now as a Grandma;I think my opinion should carry some weight.
The cutest book!.......2003-02-15
Even though this book is easy, it is so cute! This is the only book I can find that is good for bunny lovers(like me). Just go to the library or buy this book and read it. It makes great before bed stories!
Jeremy definitely a come-back bunny.......2002-02-19
Jan Karon's tale of bunny adventure has stood the test of time in our household. The story of Jeremy, the English bunny sent with silver buttons to America, protected by Biblical verse and by the likes of Charles Benchley Owl, this was a fun first read for all. Now, left on a handy table, we're finding some of the lines getting a reprise -- "Don't take carrots from strangers" -- while the unusual depth of Teri Weidner's illustrations draws the reader back for second and more close looks. All of the art fits the tone and sense of the book. The full-page work is particularly entrancing. This bunny honestly provides repreated pleasure.

Customer Reviews:
Good book, but tailor to your situation.......2006-12-30
I read the first half of the book (which is to be read by the dad alone), then proceeded to read the latter half with my son. I would highly recommend that the dad read the whole book first, not just the first half. Generally the book is well done, but I found a variety of the descriptions to simply cover situations and scenarios which I largely did not experience as a boy. Since the book asks the dad, at the end of each chapter, to talk about their experiences you want to be prepared to address issues you may not have experienced. I don't fault the author so much for this (everyone has a different experience, and it is ultimately absurd for anyone to think that everyone is cookie cutter), but this is an important set of topics to discuss with your son - read the whole book and tailor appropriately, IMHO.
Help your son stay pure.......2006-06-13
This is a great book for many reasons. First off, it makes the point very clearly that a father's relationship with his sons is vitally important during the "second half of the game," the years starting with pre-adolescence. Not only are too many of us are caught up in difficult work schedules, but it gets more difficult. No longer is he that little boy who worships the ground you walk on. It's too easy to make an effort and, when you are rebuffed, just quit and hope for the best. All too easy to just figure, "well I turned out ok ... besides, maybe this is the way kids relate to their parents nowadays."
Well, Dad, that would be the worst decision you can make. This is the time of his life when he needs you more than ever. Many problems that will plague your dear son for a lifetime (including confused sexual identity, lust, pornography addiction, etc.) grow up during this period. After all, he's a good kid, but he doesn't know the ropes. Who knows how many traps are waiting for him out there - the world, the flesh, and the devil are all working against him.
The second reason the book is excellent is that it gives you a relatively painless way to go about doing what you know you should do. Many times I have struggled with starting conversations on these topics with my son, but was not quite sure where to go. I see three extremely valuable suggestions here. First off, relate stories to him. Your son probably knows little about your background. Knowing that you've faced struggles helps him to relate to you better and will probably help him to be more open sharing his own concerns and problems. This includes the dirty laundry too - such as the first time you viewed pornography. And I can't help but thinking of ol' Dad whenever some temptation comes up will help him to resist the temptation - the secret thrill is gone.
The second valuable suggestion the book makes is to create a safe place where he can "approach the throne of grace." I set up something like this in our spare bedroom years ago and it has yielded some benefits already and I expect more. Finally, the book provides suggestions of method to prompts discussion, such as reading this book and others together. These keep you going and provides a way to discuss difficult topics, and also helps answer the question "how much should I tell him and when." Certainly, you have to apply your own wisdom and knowledge of your son, but having an experienced father like Fred Stoeker making suggestions is extremely valuable, especially for those of us who never had a good role model in doing such things.
I should mention something that this book is NOT. It is not a "birds and the bees" kind of book. Although it does have some information in the early chapters, it pretty much assumes that either your son already knows the basic mechanics of sex - hopefully from your teaching over the years rather than through his friends. If you are interested, there are other good books on this subject from a Christian point of view. Where this book really comes in is helping your young man manage the resources God has given him. That is, not the mechanism of sex, but the policy of how to manage it before it starts managing him. And many of us know that sex will manage him unless he has the tools to take charge of it.
I should also note that Steve Arterburn did not write the book, it just shows up under his name. Fred Stoeker wrote it and virtually all the experiences and suggestions in the book appear to be Fred's. Some who may question Arterburn's own morality may be put at ease knowing that it's just Arterburn's name attached - the book is really Fred's. Don't pass up an extremely valuable book because somebody's name appears on the cover.
So Dad, get this book, and get on with doing what you know you should do. I think the age range of 11-13 is probably the time to start it. Don't let the "Sexual Code of Silence" continue!
Will Change the Life of You and Your Son.......2004-08-04
I was thouroughly impressed with the writing of this book. While being careful to not overstate the obvious, the authors were forward and truthful. I felt that their honesty and integrity as men were painted in the way they told their own stories.
When I read this book, I had both of my sons in mind, and will read this with them one day. No hesitations.
A big "thank you" to Fred and Mike.
Fabulous Resource for Dad ....and Mom!.......2004-03-08
Fred Stoeker and the team of EveryMan have provided an invaluable tool for equipping young man in the battle for sexual purity. Fred provides dialog and insight to the necessary discussions that will need to take place with young sons. A must have for every father. (The author does acknowledge the single mother and her plight and provides gracious assistance throughout the book.)

Courage, an Important Relational Skill.......2007-09-06
From his autobiographical novel, "China Boy", one might infer that Gus Lee has spent a lifetime learning; learning to overcome fear, and learning the worth of high values and moral principles in life. In this book, Lee applies, what can only be described as a `novelistic' writing style, to re-creative dialogue of situations where these life-long learnings are put to the leadership test. Noting that results are resources passed through relationships, (performance leadership as a relational process), Lee takes the reader through demonstrations of courageous leadership, including the use of his Courageous Communications model - Communicate collegially, Listen actively with Empathy, Ask questions on point, and Relate respectfully (CLEAR); among others.
Although not unique, the several relational models for handling difficult conversations or for addressing relational failures (`The Black Box Solutions Model' to help understand why a relationship has crashed -- 1) Assess what's broken, 2) Accept the failure, 3) Repair the failure, and 4) Team up and work together) are interesting; in addition, Lee introduces his three types of motivating power; authority, reward, and courage - ethically modeling and inspiring others to be their best selves and to act courageously for what is right. But, as I worked through the book, I kept looking for some underlying leadership framework for Lee's Courage process. In the end, I could find no such framework, and was left with a rather randomness feeling about the book and it lessons on courage. For a word such as "courage", that speaks so of the heart, I expected direction and purpose - and in the end found none in this book.
Standing Tall In the Face of Fear.......2007-06-28
Gus and Dianne-Elliot Lee share captivating stories about real people confronting important "points of decision." The kind of decisions that leaders and people from all walks of business and civilian life face in their everyday lives. The behaviors of people with strong character and some people with little character are analyzed through a lens that reveals more about courage, integrity, and character than I have ever known. Leadership is celebrated, weakness is crushed, and the slippery slope of the behavior headed to the status quo is illuminated in a way that I think that anyone can identify with.
This is a great text book for leaders. It is full of illustrations, charts, and metaphors that drive his concepts home - to heart. There are examples of how interactions of the worst sort can be corrected. Not a passive read; I could not avoid mapping my own life to the outlines and examples throughout the book.
I recommend this book to anyone who is serious about becoming their own personal best. Your spouse, staff, board, customers and friends will all appreciate what you learn through Courage!
A Grand Slam on Leadership!.......2007-03-18
COURAGE is, quite simply, the best business book I have ever read, and I simply couldn't stop once I started reading it. Though I am now neither a corporate employee nor in any direct way connected professionally to commercial enterprise, I have been in the past. But more important, I am a human being, and the lessons I learned in this book, though perhaps primarily directed to occupants of corporate board rooms, apply directly to normal day-to-day life and social interactions in the post-industrial America of the early 21st century. It gives very direct aand effective instruction on how to be a truly great leader in the business world, and it is the latest approach to a very old problem. To me, the best book on business leadership before this one was The Gamesman, by Michael Maccoby, which I read, I think, in 1979 when I was an aspiring young lawyer. In it, Maccoby spoke of the gradual evolution of leadership types in American business. From the late 19th century through World War II or so, as I remember, including the days of the "Robbber Barons" who established corporate norms for a long time, he said most successful business leaders were what he called "jungle fighters" - ruthless entrepreneurs whose workdays normally included aggressive acts to promote themselves and/or their businesses. That meant stepping on others, back-stabbing, and amorally clutching and clawing their way to the top. Then, as I recall, he described how aggression fell from favor, and I think the next type succeeding the jungle fighter at the top of business came in the 1950s, and was what he described as the "Company Man", in gray flannel suit, white shirt and tie, reliably obedient to corporate rules and standards, conservative and predictable. Safe, but not very good at change. Then Maccoby outlined his perception of the latest successful (in the late 1970s) leadership type, the "Gamesman", who typically looked at his role in the business world as a game, one that he played hard to win, but still just a game in which he very smoothly adapted to change. Typified by a confident, smiling JFK, whose perceived persona became an important model to many, the Gamesman was King. For a while. Maccoby seemed very insightful at the time, but the world has changed much. After Reagan entered the White House in 1981, the American business world went into overdrive. And as technological wonders (personal computers, cell phones, Google, etc.) arrived, authority structures in major businesses began to flatten as more and more people were able to work independently. The command economy was disappearing, and rigid, authoritative power games in the business world began to collapse dramatically. That meant that we all began to recover our basic humanity in the workplace, and respect for others began to dominate as a norm. And that's where Mr. Lee's book comes in. He talks of the continued or even incresed need for leadership in today's marketplace, but he also explains it to us, as well as the underlying principles on which it must be based. His basic theme for success calls for principled behavior under pressure, for boldness and courage to "do the right thing" as the very backbone of leadership, and for complete respect for others always. But he does all this gradually, in language that really captures the reader. Most rewarding of all, he shows in simple and believable terms that anyone who adopts the right mind set and follows his or her own well-established principles of behavior in life can be an effective -- even a great -- leader. Rather than ordering or directing, a good leader listens and interacts, allowing great freedom to subordinates in choosing their path, but requiring strict adherence to agreed-upon behavior, schedule, or production. And as he develops and describes the best behavior for business leaders under pressure, he uses the case method, describing actual events to illustrate his concepts, and he does so very effectively. I am sorry to say that I do not have Mr. Lee's smooth facility with words, and my attempt to give a favorable synopsis of what I believe to be a wonderful series of lessons ends up sounding lumpy and complicated. The book is neither. But perhaps the best way I can describe the effectiveness of Mr. Lee's work would be to tell how it applied immediately in my personal, non-business life. I won't try to describe his recommended approaches here, for though they are simple and straight-forward, he does a wonderful job of teaching them, and they are an eye-opening delight to read. But I hope my personal experince that follows will convey the powerful effect on me of this masterwork. I have a young son who is not as careful with sleep and personal cleanliness, especially washing his hair, as his mother and I would hope. The night I finished reading COURAGE, I went upstairs well after midnight and discovered that son still up and playing video games, long after his bedtime. This has been an issue in the past, and I am sorry to say that it too often resulted in my loud, raging anger, and hurt feelings ranging all the way to tears for my son, unfortunately including his physical fear of me. I always felt bad later and swore it would never happen again. But when next pushed to the edge of my patience, I am sorry to say that it sometimes did. Having just finished this book, however, I knew I no longer had to resort to my old strong-arm tactics. Rather than my nornmal raging, I went into my son's room and followed the pattern proposed in COURAGE, quietly asking hinm what he thought of a boy staying up late on a school night, etc. We had a slow, comfortable exchange of ideas, and he soon agreed that he would be better off the next day if he got right into bed. Smiles on both sides. I then brought up the benefits that might come from his taking a shower before he went to bed, but he quickly dug in his heels, and I as quickly backed off. Shower or not, I thought as I left his room, I had been able to rationally explain to him why he should go to bed, and he had very reasonably explored the idea himself, then agreed to my arguments. No anger or fear on either side -- how refreshing was that? I was quite pleased as I went back downstairs, and I was really quite surprised at how immediately effective the application of Mr. Lee's ideas had been with my son. A few minuteds later, I came back upstairs, and heard, to my surprise, the sound of the shower. I went back downstairs until I heard the shower turned off. Ten minutes later, I crept back upstairs and into my son's room, where I found him asleep, his hair smelling of fresh shampoo. What better change in behavior between father and son could have been desired? And my son and I were both happy at the resolution of the issue, not angry, hurt, frightened, or even sad. Truly, at that moment I felt the sun of human-interaction enlightenment rising inside my own head. And that interaction, I am sure, was far more sensitive than most of those one confronts in the business world. But it was resolved more happily than I ever could have anticipated, simply by my adopting and folowing the humanizing, honest, and honorable approach promoted in this wonderful book. For me, reading it and applying its lessons have brought me monments of true joy. I give it my very highest possible recommendation for all readers, whether you are in the business world or not. Read it: you'll love it!
Solid look at how to make honesty your policy.......2006-12-21
Corporate employees and managers should take a stand against unethical behavior, but that requires the courage to live, work and lead in congruence with your highest values. Author Gus Lee offers a "primer" on courage, including how it shapes decision making, how leaders can demonstrate it in their work, and how you and your employees can learn courage, and use it to support each other and to build moral businesses. To illustrate ethical behavior, Lee discusses case histories of individual courage in corporate life. His discussion is sometimes repetitious, and the vignettes are occasionally confusing, since he may refer back to examples he presented many chapters ago. Despite such flaws, these accounts offer key lessons. We believe that executives and managers can learn about principled action - and can reinforce it among their subordinates - by reading Lee's book and passing it along.
The best of the best.......2006-12-21
This is the transformational leadership book. But don't rely on me, just because I run a company. Look above this line, under "Reviews." See who endorsed Courage. This is the only book that's been endorsed by Warren Bennis and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf. General Schwarzkopf says that "when it comes to leadership, Gus Lee has walked the walk." Add to that General Fred Franks, CEOs, Board Chairs, FBI agents, professors, college presidents, corporate senior executives, non-profit leaders, faith organizations, and even Amy Tan. If you're in a company or a family, read this book.

Loved this book.......2007-10-03
I've read it several times and I never get tired of it. It's a great story and well written. The characters are well developed and the entire book goes at a great pace.
wow.......2007-03-04
oh my gosh, this was so good. I think this was one of her best work. Along with (Carolina Moon, Hidden riches, Private scandals, river's end and The reef)
Spectacular!!.......2007-02-09
Could I have given this book more than 5 stars, I would have. When I began to read it and realize it was about magic and thievery, I rolled my eyes and decided to read it anyway. Who could imagine the main male character, the hero, being a thief and a magician? Well, as it turned out, it was one of the most entertaining books I've ever read. I absolutely loved the romance between Luke and Roxy and, in fact, think I fell a little in love with Luke myself. Roxy was also a very likeable character as was Max, Lily and the rest of their entourage. A fun, exciting, hard to put down read.
The Very Best Romance Novel from Nora Roberts for me!.......2006-05-16
I simply adore this book and it's what made me go out to buy every other Nora Roberts novel. It just amazes me the chemistry between Luke and Roxanne. Everytime I read it I can't get over the excitement and the smile it brings to me as they barb back and forth. It's just an amazing story over the course of growing up together and how it all develops. Roxanne is smart and sassy and Luke is just too cool. This romantic duo shines and no one else compares to them yet for me. My very favorite romance.
Honestly Illuminating.......2006-03-16
Magic, mystery, romance and burglary are all part of this extremely captivating adventure. I fell in love with the characters immediately even knowing they were "good" thieves - hence "Honest Illusions." The book begins with Luke Callahan coming back into Roxanne Nouvelle's life after a 5 year absence and then immediately flashes back to the time approximately 10 years previous when Roxy was 8 and Luke 12 when Luke joined the carnival w/Max Nouvelle, his daughter, Roxy, Lily, Mouse and their right hand caretaker back in New Orleans, LeClerc. The flashback continues throughout more than half of the book, setting up the reader for the background information needed to tell the full story. I felt it was necessary and definitely kept the reader interested to go back to the beginning, unlike some of the reviewers who felt the flashback was too long. The book then picks up to the current time, but to me, the continuity of the story completely hinged on the background information. Since I don't want to give any of the plot away, I will end my review right here. This is a story that I would definitely re-read and hated to see end; a sure fire plot for an excellent movie!

Review.......2007-05-18
I'm impressed with the story and the clean lines of each panel in this graphic novel. Looking foward to the next installment of this story.
A GREAT read!!!.......2007-03-02
Beautiful artwork, a seme that reminds me of the best of Naona Boura's work!
The story's feel is a calmer, more adult romance. Of silent misunderstandings and taking the time to work out emotions. Our seme, the lawyer Kitahara is absolutely adorable in his emotional chibi form, while very often it's Kuze, the law secretary and uke that is seriously, and aggressively pursuing this love.
I loved this one and am already waiting in line for vol 2!!!
Another marvellous Yaoi from dramaqueen !.......2006-11-24
This is another great Yaoi from DramaQueen. This mangaka's artwork is clean lined, the facial expressions vividly alive. Such expressive eyes!
2 stories here. The titled story is excellent, the characters likable. Maybe Kitahara's (seme) love for Kuze (uke) could have been better explored. After all Kitahara is the much older and supposedly more worldly-wise guy (the mangaka's reference to geezer here is quite funny), was married once, has never shown any inkling that he goes for guys and never made love to one. On the other hand, Kuze is an acknowledged gay, with past experience with other guys. But this is Yaoi and it is heartening to have Kuze's deeply harboured love for Kitahara finally reciprocated. The scenes leading to Kitahara's declaration of love are heartwarming and sprinkled with comical moments. The development of their relationship from there onwards is humorous yet warm and tender.
The sex is tastefully done too and here the mangaka does an excellent job building up the emotions.
The second story is the usual student and teacher relationship but this mangaka's humorous style lift the story up a few notches, providing us with another entertaining read.
I like this mangaka's style, her dialogue light toned yet effectively emotional. And the small panels of caricatures just add to the enjoyment of her stories.
Well done DramaQueen. Looking forward to the continuation of Kuze's and Kitahara-sensei's story.

Ever separate an egg with a funnel? Ever make a grilled cheese and broccoli sandwich? Ever follow your kids into the kitchen and help them with recipes they have chosen to prepare?
Mollie Katzen makes all this and more ever so painless. She wrote Pretend Soup for preschool cooks after working with young kids in a preschool setting. Honest Pretzels is the next step. These are more advanced recipes demanding more advanced techniques for children ages 8 and up. It's a kid's cookbook for a more sophisticated palate--those ready for Not-from-a-Box Macaroni and Cheese or Spunky Chili. All the recipes in the book are vegetarian.
Typically, each recipe is introduced with a list of ingredients, the amount of time it's going to take, a list of tools, and a note about where a child might want to ask an adult for help. The actual directions are broken out into separate "cards," many of them illustrated. At no time and in no place is the language patronizing.
Skills your child will develop include making and handling yeasted dough; making filled, shaped, healthy pastries; slicing, mincing, and grating; seasoning with herbs and spices; sautéing, pureeing, measuring, layering, assembling; dividing, estimating, timing, deciding; separating eggs, beating egg whites, folding a puffy batter; making simple, standard sauces; and basic kitchen safety and common sense.
That's quite a list. How did you measure up when you were 8--let alone now? Here's a good chance to give your child a leg up in the kitchen, while staying out of the way. --Schuyler Ingle

The Start of Something Wonderful.......2007-02-11
I recieved this book for Christmas when I was nine years old. The first thing I remember making totally unassisted was the vegan chocolate cake that year. This book is fully of fun, easy recipes for kids with a little help from their parents. It's quite possible that this book had something to do with me becoming vegetarian at age eleven and vegan at thirteen. I know I couldn't have done it without that cake!
It even tastes good!.......2006-09-01
I got this book from the library but after flipping through it, we bought it. My 8 year old has been able to follow the step-by-step directions that are clear and easy to understand. We started with the Torn Tortilla Bake that made a great side dish.
Fabulous way to introduce a child to the kitchen.......2005-08-22
I've long been a fan of Mollie Katzen's cookbooks: she is so very user-friendly and clear in her writing. My most battered (so to speak) cookbook is Still Life with Menu. So Rowan (my ex's little boy, who is my "best friend," as he tells people) turned eight last week or so. He's been my cooking buddy since he was big enough to stand on a chair next to my stove (age two). He thinks I am the best cook in the world (and I'm not going to correct him).
The recipes are in these categories:
* Breakfast Specials: 10 recipes including Giant Baked Pancake Puff, Scrambled Eggs, and Corn Muffins
* Soups, Sandwiches, and Salads for Lunch and Dinner: 15 recipes including Tomato Soup with Crispy Croutons, Egg Salad and Cucumber Sandwich, and Tossed Green Salad with Two Dressings--Ranch and Apple Juice Vinaigrette
* Main and Side Dishes: Helping with Dinner for Real: 12 recipes including Lasagna, Torn Tortilla Casserola (aka Chilaquila Casserole from Still Life with Menu, I bet), and Carnival Baked Potatoes with Mild Red Pepper Sauce
* Desserts and a Few Baked Things: 12 recipes including Dinner Rolls, Cinnamon Swirl Sticky Buns, and Made-in-the-Pan Chocolate Cake
* Snacks and a Few Special Drinks: 18 recipes including Hip Bean Dip, Crunchy Zucchini Circles, Icy Strawberry Slush, and Frozen Fruit Pops
Every recipe has an illustrated diagram of steps, which include things to ask an adult to do (those things appear at the beginning of the recipe, where she explains it, as well as in the step-by-step diagram, in bold). The writing is typical Mollie: Don't be afraid of the dry mustard in the recipe. Even if you don't like the kind of mustard that some people like to put on sandwiches and hot dogs, you'll find that this mustard is not too spicy. It gives this cheese extra flavor boost, and the whole thign will taste really good because of it. (A couple of kids said, "Eeuuu-mustard!" when we tested the recipe, but they loved the result.)
Many recipes also have some kid quotes on the intro page: "I like how the vegetables are strapped down by the melted cheese." -Sam (on the "Grilled Cheese and Broccoli Sandwich").
She tells them everything, from equipment to ingredients to little tricks to food history. Rowan is happy and proud to own such a wonderful book.
Honest Pretzels.......2005-04-17
Honest Pretzels is a good book for children who like to cook. The directions are easy to follow and are fun.
Best in its category by far!.......2004-08-04
This book does everything right: healthy, clear recipes with authentic ingredients. Each recipe has an introduction that explains the concepts (such as "Fried rice is basically stir-fried vegetables with cooked rice added"). I love the thought of a child learning how to make tortilla chips out of tortillas. Also, I love the thought of children mastering important basic recipes -- whether it's macaroni and cheese or scrambled eggs or banana bread. And there are lots of practical, creative-yet-simple lunch ideas -- grilled cheese and broccoli sandwich, for example, or macaroni minnestrone. All the things that other kid-cookbooks do wrong, this one does right.
