Sorry, Rachel..........2007-09-18
I bought this book with great anticipation; however, after making several recipes, I am very dissapointed. Many dishes I've tried have absolutely NO FLAVOR at all. If you like dinners from the 1950's, you may like this; but for experienced cooks with sophisticated palates, this is not worth buying. The fact that there are 170 of these used books for sale should tell you something.
Yum-o.......2007-08-25
I liked the listing of recipes so it was easy to choose what to make without flipping through the entire cookbook. Lots of easy recipes for chicken. When you have normal ingredients, you can still make something taste spetacular.
Nothing I would eat!.......2007-08-24
I didn't like this book. It wasn't very clear. My family would NEVER eat any of the recipes. I was looking for a well-rounded list of recipes, (like joy of cooking) but found this was too "kid friendly" and unhealthy. I returned the book.
30 Minute Meals.......2007-08-12
I was somewhat disappointed. There is a lot more time to get the meal together than I expected.Otherwise it is well written and organized.
It's just ok........2007-08-07
I did make some kind of turkey burgers with butter and tobasco sauce...I think they were buffalo turkey burgers...don't have the book in front of me...and they were quite good. It had a blue cheese sauce, YUM-O! (To quote Ms. Ray). She finished off the patties in the sauce...
I made a variation...I take the buns and soak them for a few seconds in the butter/tobasco sauce and grill them...it's the only way my picky son wants his burgers now! So, the girl is inventive...it's just not my first pick for a cookbook at supper time. Know what I mean?

It traces the actions (and inactions) of every important figure in the war on terror, both before and after 9/11, bringing them together in a volume that offers a comprehensive and provocative look at this complex subject. Packed with little-known facts and disturbing questions,
The Terror Timeline is the first complete reference guide to the events of 9/11 and the war on terror -- the definitive primer on the most momentous issue of our times.

Not That Great...Save Your Money.......2007-07-28
I originally purchased this book as a reference for my dissertation. It only takes the reading of a few pages to realize that this is anything but an unbiased look at the events leading up to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The author's obvious hatred of the Bush administration is evident after only reading a few pages and what is being touted as "scholarly research" is nothing more than a bunch of newspaper and magazine articles formed into a book. This doesn't make the work scholarly, it makes the author lazy. The author himself, in the acknowledgement section, even admits he had "volunteers" help him write portions of the book. If you really want to know what terrorism is about, without the political spin, I recommend "The Age of Sacred Terror" by Daniel Benjamin and Steven Simon or "Voices of Terror" by Walter Laqueur. "The Age of Sacred Terror" will give any real scholar of terrorism a much greater insight into the history of terrorism and how that leads to what happened on 9/11. "Voices of Terror" is a great collection of writings by the most notorious terror organizations like Al Qaeda and Hamas and this too will give great insight into the thinking of the leaders of such organizations. Both offer a more unbiased look at terrorism and its relationship to 9/11. If you are doing any type of research and you are planning to use this book---save your money.
The terror Timeline.......2007-07-03
Item arrived quickly and in great condition. My husband is enjoying reading it. Thank you.
Detailed, accessible, and exhaustively researched.......2007-03-14
Thompson's masterful research project has birthed a resource of immense value to those desirous of an accurate history of the 9/11 tragedy. Each bit of information is followed immediately by its source, and there are nearly 600 pages of relevant documentation in this volume. Thompson's book is, as advertised, comprehensive and thought-provoking. You will not be carrying it in your shirt pocket, but you will want to page through several sections of the book every week, in order to understand the enormity both of 9/11 and of the curious and catastrophic U.S. responses to it.
A 9/11 Study Must.......2007-01-21
For anyone interested in performing an in-depth study of the heinous 9/11 attacks on our nation and our hearts, this book is an absolutely essential starting forum. One can easily surmise the heart-felt dedication of this author and the learning of the basic structure of evil of those who planned, financed and forced this on our country. I highly recommend this book.
Terror Timeline .......2007-01-04
This a great book to use as reference and is laid out in a manner that even a person that does not keep up with the International news can understand and follow. The writer does not give his own ideas and thoughts, he only uses content from other magazines and news publishers. Probably one of the best books I have ever read in regards to the 911 attack, and one that everyone should read and be able to form their own opinion in regards to 911 and our government.

My Time with God.......2007-01-11
This is one of the best devotionals written - it is the pure word of God and a great insight section. I have been reading through the Bible but also supplement my daily reading with this devotional. Excellent!
My Time with God.......2007-01-03
Excellent way to start the day. Easy translation and great commentary!
Excellent devotional.......2006-05-09
This devotional is excellent and just what I was looking for. The rating said the condition of the book was "like new" and it really was.
Excellent Discovery.......2005-08-04
I recently had an illness and turned my life over to God.
I had been wanting to do that for a long time, maybe that was God's way of telling me it was time to be saved so I was.
Anyhow I wanted to learn God's word but didn't know if I would read the bible everyday and this seemed like a good way to do it. Now I can't wait for my daily reading! I have only been reading it for a week and a half but it has taught me many things in this short time. It has been full of inspiration and maybe a few surprises. I actually feel myself becomeing a better person everyday because of this. Maybe that was God's way of bringing me closer to him? Also I looked around the internet at several daily readers and I am glad I chose this one.
I would recommend this to anyone. Happy Reading.
Wonderful little book with daily readings and thoughts.......2004-10-24
This is a fun book to flip through. It is laid out really well - on each set of pages is a full New Testament and Old Testament reading, plus a comment by a Christian leader and then a couple questions for you to ask yourself and think about. I really like that the book is small and padded hardcover so it's very easy to carry around and read. It also has a cute black ribbon for marking your favorite page/last page read. If you are giving it as a gift, it has a page where you can fill in TO, FROM and OCCASION for which it was given - a nice extra touch.
Book Description
It’s a story that has never been told … until now.
Imagine being sealed into a closed environment for two years — cut off from the outside world with only seven other people — enduring never-ending hunger, severely low levels of oxygen, and extremely difficult relationships. Crew members struggled to survive in Biosphere 2, where they swore nothing would go in or out — no food or water, not even air — all in the name of science.
For the first time, biospherian Jane Poynter — who lived and loved in the Biosphere — is ready to share what really happened in there. She takes readers on a riveting, fast-paced trip through shattered lives, scientific discovery, cults, love, fears of insanity, and inspiring human endurance.
The eight biospherians who closed themselves into the Biosphere emerged 730 days later… much wiser, thinner, and having done what many had said was impossible.
Customer Reviews:
Poynter's life before, during and after living in a fishbowl - fascinating.......2007-01-05
I found the Jayne Poynter's book to be very interesting both for her personal "lead up" to how she came to be on the Biosphere crew, as well as the drama of the 2 years inside -- all the problems they had, both technically and psychologically.
It's too bad the media spent so much time trying to find out why something might be a "fake" (for lack of a better term) with Biosphere II rather than trying to appreciate the enormous magnitude of the project and it's intent.
As I understand it, Biosphere II sits largely unused today. I certainly hope that a university or two will get involved to keep the facility operating. There's a lot to be learned, and I suspect the majority of the cost is already spent.
Life in hermetically sealed environment was no picnic.......2006-12-06
Many people in 1991 were fascinated by the idea of Biosphere 2, a closed, hermetically sealed, self-sustaining, man-made ecosystem with a desert, an ocean, a rainforest, a savannah, a marsh, a habitat and an intensive farm, all in three acres. On September 26 eight people entered the structure for a two-year stint living "as if on Mars, farming all our food, recycling our water, our waste and even the oxygen we breathed..."
But bad publicity dogged the project even before the team went in. The public grew skeptical, as the Biospherians were dismissed as frauds, cult figures, publicity hounds and charlatans. None of which, strictly speaking, was completely false. Or completely true.
Jane Poynter, who celebrated her 30th birthday in Biosphere 2, and went on to found an aerospace firm with fellow Biospherian (and later husband) Taber MacCallum, attempts to set the record straight with this emotional and wide ranging account.
Poynter was an upper-class English girl who joined the Institute of Ecotechnics at age 20 for travel and adventure - and, no doubt, to escape her parents' conventional expectations. The IE group, headed by charismatic and authoritarian John Allen, were Synergists who believed in a "strict adherence " to three avocations - theater, philosophy and business - to keep themselves in intellectual, emotional and economic balance. This was the group that went on to conceive and build Biosphere 2.
Poynter was an early candidate for the team. Her training included stints on a Ferro-cement research vessel built by IE staffers and an outback ranch in remote Australia populated primarily by large meat-eating ants, plagues of flies, and termites who ate the tires off cars. Lessons in resourcefulness, difficult physical conditions and close, isolated living may have been useful as Poynter says, but nothing could really prepare any of them for the Biosphere experience.
"After thirteen months in Biosphere 2, we were starving, suffocating and going quite mad."
Inadequate food had plagued them from the start. In part this goes back to the cult-like group dynamic.
The Biospherian candidates worked on design and construction of Biosphere 2 (earth being Biosphere 1), and were shifted to different tasks in order to have well-rounded experience. In practice, shifts were sometimes made to punish a staffer for disloyalty, i.e., criticism. Criticism was also dealt with in less subtle ways.
Poynter, as agriculture manager, was asked to draw up a report showing that Biosphere 2 could produce all of the food they would need. When she could only arrive at a total of 80 percent she, and two others who sided with her, were fired from the team. Poynter and another woman were taken back three days later without explanation - the third was shunted to some other aspect of the program.
This type of behavior was common and served to keep all of them cowed, off balance, and unwilling to point out snags. When a certain root fungus was cited as a potential problem, John Allen's response was to make the scientist "jump up and down, screaming `pythium, pythium.' " The fungus was indeed a persistent rice-crop killer.
Their second big problem was a steady, unexpected drop in oxygen. For months they did intensive experiments, but the debilitating riddle remained unsolved until an outsider provided a clue in a casual phone call. Serendipity and science working together would seem to give the Synergists' creed of balance a lift.
But the "going mad" part never really got better. Much of Poynter's book focuses on the interpersonal acrimony, which eventually divided them into two groups of four. Difficulties were exacerbated by backbreaking work on inadequate diets in low oxygen, but even when these problems were somewhat alleviated relations stayed poor.
Of course, the manipulation by outside management never got better and it was that that separated them into loyalists and non-loyalists. Poynter was a non-loyalist. When she walked out of Biosphere 2 her time as a Synergist was done too.
But her book seems balanced and open - something of a catharsis. She celebrates the science, such as it was, and laments that more was not done later to study closed-ecosystem reactions. There was one more 6-month group sojourn inside, but the project was too expensive to continue.
Though the two years were arduous she counts them a success - "we had proven that a man-made biosphere can successfully sustain life, including human life, for an extended period of time without inexplicably crashing, or devolving rapidly into green slime." True, but they did need two infusions of oxygen, which would not have been possible in space, and for all their psychological problems they always knew they could walk out at any time.
Naturally many questions remain, particularly about the environmental science. Though the environment was carefully engineered and controlled they still had ceaseless problems with insect pests (including ant intruders from outside) and plant diseases.
Poynter is at her best describing daily life; the "dysfunctional family" they became, the feasts and famines, and the daily grind of work, though you get the feeling she's leaving a lot out to avoid pressing on old wounds. An absorbing, varied and often suspenseful read.

Holds insights for us all........2006-11-06
It's the 15th anniversary of the Biosphere 2 experiment, when eight individuals sealed themselves into a 2-acre desert building to survive without any help from the outside world - and here one crewmember shares what life was like behind the glass. It was designed to be a mini version of Biosphere 1, and was a self-contained ecosystem which could be viewed either as a prototype for a space habitat or a small version of Planet Earth experiences. The author helped design the experiment, lived it, and walked away from it in the end: her account holds insights for us all.

Amazing Book, captivating, interesting, well told........2006-10-20
Jane Poynter gives a very honest story of her involvement in the group that conceived and built the Biosphere 2, where she came from and where the group was coming from.
Jane obviously knows her Biospherics, the book has Bibliography and Index for easy reference like a scientific paper, the Science almost reads like a hard techno-thriller, Low Oxygen, Failing Power, Constant food shortage.
This combined with the tensions between the people inside and outside of the biosphere makes a very intense story, where the reader gets drawn into the drama and emotional stress.
That the story is real, and told by one of the participants is astounding.
"No-one can make this up"
Written in 2005 Jane Poynter has the distance to the events to make the story balanced, it is not one sided, she objectively describes the events, and tries to make an objective assessment of her own feelings at the time.
The book is not a personal vendetta against other people in the Biosphere 2 project.
Overall a 5 star book
The inside story of the Biosphere 2.......2006-09-27
First, I am not a professional reviewer or writer. I am an like everyone else who likes to read a good book.
I liked this book for a few good reasons. It was easy to read and follow. I didn't get tired from reading it. At times I would get so engrossed in reading it that time would seem to fly by.
This book gives you the inside story of the Biosphere 2 experiment. It tells about the relationships of the people involved and some of the History leading up to the experiment. It even gives you a bit of the science behind the Biosphere told in a way that a non technical person can understand. It tells about the fun times and some of the bad times even some of the funny times. It is certainly not a dry read. I think that Jane Poynter did a good job writing this book. It certainly answers some of the questions raised in the past about the Biosphere 2 experiment. It is a good read, I recommend it. I own it, I am going to keep it and I look forward to reading it again.

Book Description
If you find yourself lost and alone in the skin-care aisle; if you're thinking of going under the knife, but hoping you won't have to; if you need specific, detailed information about how to get rid of the bags under your eyes or those ever-deepening furrows in your brow; if you've gone to your girlfriends, women's magazines, cosmetics counters, facialists, and plastic surgeons and gotten lots of conflicting answers; then Dr. Fredric Brandt's simple, streamlined system is for you. With 10 Minutes/10 Years, one of the world's most famous cosmetic dermatologists offers a breakthrough skin-care program that will take you only ten minutes a day -- and will reverse your skin's aging process by ten years.
There is a skin-care revolution taking place; the days of washing your face with soap and water and slapping on some cream are long gone. But this means that skin care isn't simple anymore. As new products appear, seemingly overnight, it becomes harder to know what's right for your skin. With warmth and humor, Dr. Brandt cuts through the information overload to provide concrete information and advice for women of all ages and of every skin type. He helps you determine who to go to and who not to go to as well as what to ask.
10 Minutes/10 Years is a uniquely formatted, problem/solution-driven guidebook that reveals many unknown threats to the skin which age it before its time, such as sugar and diet (Chapter 3). Need to know about the brown spots on your cheeks? Turn to Chapter 6. Sick of your drooping chin? Read Chapter 14. Driven to despair by your thinning hair? Look at Chapter 19. But before you decide what system you need, consult Chapter 4 for a comprehensive list of the best products, treatments, and procedures available. Dr. Brandt explains what they are and how they work -- from the least invasive, over-the-counter creams to the most cutting-edge injectibles. Once you understand the basics, you can move on to your specific area of concern in the book's final section, which offers precise information for every skin type.
There is no one-shot solution -- we are constantly aging, and we have to keep maintaining ourselves. 10 Minutes/10 Years is Dr. Brandt's targeted approach to this maintenance. His system has already helped thousands of people look younger, and now readers will have their own one-way ticket back to a youthful appearance.
Customer Reviews:
Don't waste your money or your time on this one!.......2007-07-27
Nothing new here - nothing that you haven't heard before. This is basically one long advertisement of Brandt's products. You could go bankrupt trying to hold back the years this way and wouldn't have time for anything but beauty regimens.
Dr. Perricone's books are far more informative and even though he has a product line, too, his books focus on scientific studies and facts, nutrition and health, and he provides information that you can use even if you don't buy his products.
Things you never knew...........2007-05-21
I learned so much from reading this book. Things I never knew about your skin. I use Dr. Brandt's Poreless line already but this informative book just adds to that. I would recommend it to anyone.
Hypocritical Author.......2007-05-19
Here is a doctor who talks about cleansing the body through diet, and then suggests you inject every possible thing into your face. I was not impressed. I was under the impression the book would have good diet tips to keep one looking youthful.

great fast recipe ideas.......2007-03-26
This book was a gift and has turned out to be very useful. It has alot of great recipes for fast family meals. It would be a great gift to give (the title alone is a hoot!) or to buy for oneself. Even though I am not organized enough to shop and plan for a whole two weeks in advance like some of the lists in the book, it has still given me lots of ideas on how to prepare more than one meal at a time and to reduce time planning and making trips to the grocery store. A fun read.

The Frantic Woman's Guide takes the mystery (and the pain) out of menu planning, shopping for ingredients, and creating kid-friendly recipes. This book has been a big boost to my kitchen-related self esteem. My family is eating better because of it.

Precious moments with my children.......2007-03-29
Being a busy mother of 3 children under the age of 5, it can be easy to lose perspective. This book is a Godsend! It reminded me to use that sock as a puppet which my 4 year old puts in his "workbox". Every day they ask for a "raisin story"! (that's a certain story in the book) And, just today my 2 yr. old was saying "goodnight" to everything in his room. (taken from "Goodnight Moon) It's a good source of entertainment, precious moments, and not to mention-lots of laughs!!!
What a waste of money.......2001-01-15
I bought this book hoping for some innovative games or activities for my kids. Instead, I found the vast majority of the ideas to be either things that any parent of a 3 year old already knows (let child apply stickers to paper, let child draw outside with chalk, read a book to the child, put your hand in a sock and use it as a puppet, rolling and throwing a ball with the child) or 5-6 line poems that the parent is supposed to memorize and sing with the child. Do not waste your money.
This book can help you keep from turning gray so soon........1999-03-25
It is full of handy, quick ideas. Also, while the ideas are being used, our children are improving intellectual, motor, and social skills not to mention the bonding that takes place between parent and child.

Don't Overlook This Book!!!.......2001-04-19
This is by far the best book of low fat recipes I have ever used (and I have used many!!!) I have made at least 90 recipes and they were very quick and easy. Nutritional information makes it easy to fit into any eating routine, so you always know where you stand. I have even tried some of these out on family and friends without telling them they were eating low fat and they still don't know- they loved it. Try this book - you will not be sorry.!!
Misleading title - these recipes are far from low-fat.......2001-03-31

Remember that a 4 oz. piece of meat is the size of a deck of playing cards. Yes, there are a few recipes in the book that I would consider low-fat, but the majority are not. As any calorie counter, like myself, knows, the amount of fat per serving on the above examples are often a whole days allowance!
I highly recommend you not purchase this book, but search for a truly low-fat cookbook. This one is great for an everyday meal, but certainly not for those who wish to lose weight.
Volume 2 of my Healthy Cooking Bibles.......2000-10-24
I bought this book after buying All-American Low-Fat and No-Fat Recipes by the same author. I am happy to say the results are just as delicious!!There are so many great recipes in this book. Some of my favoirtes are Chicken Breasts Stuffed with Veggies and Cheese, Pizza Cups, Cheeseburger Pie, and the Veg-All Seven Vegetable Mushroom Rice. The book is light on desserts, but on the up side there is an extensive salad and bread section. This book is invaluable to anyone with a busy lifestyle where a quck meal is essential and a healthy meal is desired. Well worth the cost!
366 Low-Fat Brand-Name Recipes in Minutes.......2000-06-10
I have accumulated several low fat, "healthy" cookbooks over the years, probably like half the rest of the world. Having owned this one for over five years, it's showing its wear, because it is my favorite! My 14 year old picky eater son begged me to fix the "Shrimp and Rice Salad with Soy Sauce Dressing" tonight--and I obliged! My family of four will fight over the leftovers tomorrow! Don't worry about the use of "Brand Names"--often you can easily substitute other brands with equally good results. The recipes are easy, fast, healthy, and definitely taste good. I highly recommend this cookbook.
Great everyday recipe ideas.......1999-03-05
I took this book out of the library just days after joining Weight Watchers, while feeling as if I would never be able to cook anything but broiled chicken and vegetables ever again! This book has a lot of great ideas for lowfat cooking, including chapters on appetizers, salads, casseroles, vegetarian entrees, bread machine recipes, side dishes, and desserts. Best of all, the recipes are for basic, everyday family food that is easy and quick to prepare and lowfat. All of the ingredients are things you probably have at home--nothing too unusual or complicated. Complete nutritional information is provided, so I've been able to use the Weight Watchers Points Finder to figure out how each meal fits into my daily points allowance. I liked the book so much that I bought a copy for myself. My family really liked the Seafood Enchiladas in the Microwave. Enjoy!
