Behind the Wheel Spanish.......2007-09-30
This is a detailed product that has made it easier for me to learn Spanish than what I have experienced through either formal classes or other products. I would recommend it to my friends.
Fun and Powerful.......2007-07-15
This course is a powerhouse course for learning spanish. So much useful vocabulary and conversational skills are covered in this course it is mind blowing. Mark's strategy is to use variable repetition to build a solid base on which to learn spanish and that magic is working on me. Mark has a solid sense of which words, phrases, sentence structures etc. are most used by english and spanish speaking folks alike, and he pounds them home till they become second nature.
It's all here, not just sentence building, but how to say the time, the days of the week, count into the millions, talk about the weather and a million other daily kinds of stuff humans around the world talk about or use in thier language on a daily basis.
Mark has made an excellent tool for learning Spanish available, it is now up me, the learner, to decide how far and how fast I want to utilize it.
In such a short while I am speaking in rudimentary ways to my Spanish friends, and they are stunned at my progress knowing that -truly- the extent of my Spanish was "adios" before beginning this course.
I hope that helps some of you decide.
all the best
Extremely Helpful.......2007-07-09
I am engaged to a Spanish man, who's entire family speaks Spanish most of the time. Using this program has really helped me get started on learning the language. Now when I am at family gatherings, I find myself understanding the gist of the conversations going on. I haven't finished the program yet, but I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn Spanish and has a long commute to work or spends a lot of time on the road.
Very Pleased!.......2007-07-04
I'm still on disk 1, but so far can say that I am well pleased. Pronunciation is clear and the lessons are very easy to follow. I'm looking forward to learning more spanish with these lessons.

From the Rebels' defeat at the Battle of Hoth to the battle between Luke and Darth Vader, The Empire Strikes Back continues the story of Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, and the others as they struggle to overthrow the evil Galactic Empire. This abridgment of the classic story is complemented by nearly 150 two-color illustrations--based on images from the film--drawn by Brandon McKinney in a style reminiscent of comic books from the 1950s. Star Wars fans of all ages will be delighted with this beautiful little gift book. --C.B. Delaney
Amazon.com Audiobook Review
Perhaps you think the Star Wars trilogy cannot be fully realized with audio alone. You think you'd miss the stunning visuals, the emotions of the actors, and the special effects. You think it would be a disappointment. As Yoda might say, "So impossible is it? So certain are you?" This production of The Empire Strikes Back was created by the same team that produced National Public Radio's amazingly successful presentation of Star Wars: The Original Radio Drama in 1981. Presented in 10 episodes, the longer format allows for a great expansion of the story and new scenes--though purists may be disappointed by the slight but significant change in the story line while the Rebels are on Hoth. Once again, Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels are on hand to reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker and C-3PO, and this time they are joined by Billy Dee Williams reprising his part as Lando Calrissian. A fine cast performs the rest of the roles, notably John Lithgow as Yoda and the very compelling Perry King as the "slimy, double-crossing, no good swindler" Han Solo. Sound effects and John Williams's score from the movie have been remixed to help create a convincing soundscape--so good, you can really "see" the movie by listening to it. The Empire Strikes Back: The Original Radio Drama will thrill all Star Wars fans, whether or not they enjoy audiobooks. (Running time: 5 hours, 5 cassettes) --C.B. Delaney
Book Description
National Public Radio's 1981 adaptation of Star Wars was one of the most successful presentations in the history of radio—and a very tough act to follow. Nevertheless, two years later, the members of the Star Wars production team eagerly returned to create a radio version of The Empire Strikes Back. Like its predecessor, this electrifying drama boasts an outstanding cast (including Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels as See Threepio, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and John Lithgow as Yoda); a greatly expanded script, with many scenes not found in the movie; and audio engineering of unparalleled excellence. The Empire Strikes Back takes you once more into a galaxy of pure sound and limitless imagination for an adventure you'll never forget.

The Empire Strikes Back (Step-Up Movie Adventures).......2007-08-13
The book is pretty good. I was a lttle disappointed with the scenes pictured in the book. They were dark and I believe there were better scenes to pictorially represent the movie.
Classic Film, Good Book.......2007-08-08
We all know the story that unfolds in The Empire Strikes Back, and many people consider it to be the best of the films. So what does an author do to make the story seem fresh to the reader? Add details? Change the story? Closely follow the film? In the case of this book, Mr. Glut has elected to follow the film. I think he made the right decision, and he describes the action very well. I was not distracted by being familiar with the story, and I think that the unique individual who has not seen the film would obtain a good grasp of the tale by reading this book. Just as in the film, it was great fun to follow our heroes from Hoth to Bespin and Dagobah. One can only wonder what happens next.
One of the best films ever made, but the book doesn't add much..........2007-05-26
Ranking movies, music, and other artistic endeavors is generally something I grew out of in high school, but if pressed to list my "Top Ten" favorite films of all time, The Empire Strikes Back would without question occupy the number one spot. I consider it to be the perfect balance of drama, action, comedy, and romance. The film is the most tightly focused of the Star Wars saga, relying the least on alien extras and glitzy technology and taking time to thoroughly develop its principal characters. Since I hold the movie in such high esteem, my expectations for a novelization of it are correspondingly lofty.
Unfortunately, Donald F. Glut's take on The Empire Strikes Back did not leave me with the same exhilaration as the film. I've mentioned before in my reviews of the prequel novelizations that what I look for in a movie interpretation is an expansion of the material presented in the film. This expansion could take the form of new (or removed!) scenes, deeper insights into character psyches, rewritten dialogue, or many other changes. This novel stays quite faithful to the film and does not make much effort at any exploration of the characters beyond what is presented on the screen. Dialogue is occasionally tweaked, but the alterations do not reveal any new information. Small scene additions such as an Imperial Probe Droid tangling with a Wampa (or "Wampa Ice Creature," as it is always cited in the text) are fun but few and far between.
Glut writes descriptively and with a flowing style that keeps the story moving briskly. The novel clocks in at a very terse 216 pages in my 1995 hardcover edition. More time is spent on fleshing out the opening Hoth sequences than the climactic Bespin scenes, where the story races to its conclusions. I've noticed this trend of allocating significantly more detail to opening scenes in several of the novelizations. Presumably this is due to the authors not wanting to disrupt the flow of events as the plot lines are woven together, but sometimes it feels more like the book just runs out of steam.
When this novelization of Episode V was written, Star Wars was an unparalleled global phenomenon. Glut presumably knew this book would be read by millions and would possibly stand the test of time along with the film. I wish the book had higher goals than simply replaying the events seen on screen verbatim, that it had spent more time delving into the characters or filling in some of the blank spots left in the movie script. As it stands, it is a serviceable adaptation of the film but not much more.

Star Wars ESB..Collecting knowledge through reading..........2006-04-21
Since most reviews are about the item itself I would first like to say that collecting SW merchandise for close to 30 yeras is my top priority. Those of you who also collect will find that for a short but good story book adventure for part V "The Empire Strikes Back", still brings the magic from Sir George Lucas to the small literature side of Sci-Fi adventure for all ages. I am not only saying this because I love the Star Wars Saga, but to be able to see that when kids re-inact the story means that they have read it, processed it and found it fun enough to act it. Those of you growing up in the 70's know what I mean. Now this new generation will never forget the experiance of being able to read a great sci-fi movie and sit back and say !!!WOW!!! this is great and can't wait for the next book to read!! Fabulous!.......2007-07-20
I've bought so many of the others, but this one is BASIC, starts right from the very beginning. Don't be fooled by the others that just gloss over the alphabet, numbers and sounds, and then jump right into advanced text. Here you repeat the French words or phrases just the right amount of times and the English translation is said just at the right time so you learn the meaning of what you are saying at the same time, unlike others that say the French only and you struggle with the exact meaning as you speak...ah, what am I saying again...as you are looking it up.
Remember to get this REVISED edition from 2006, NOT the earlier editions. And you DON'T have to be Behind the Wheel! You can be at home loungin' on the coach. Don't worry, this contains the alphabet, numbers and sounds, too, but so much more!! Don't worry; all the text from the CDs is available, plus so much more text and lots of useful written assignments.
French is VERY tricky when you really get into it, but it's worth the commitment. Think long-term, you'll get better every week. Looking forward to the 2nd level, Behind the Wheel FRENCH 2. Great author!
Amazon.com Audiobook Review
At first glance, it seems difficult to imagine Star Wars presented as a radio serial. Wouldn't the story be weakened by the loss of visuals? This remarkable production, broadcast on National Public Radio in 1981, proves that sounds convey pictures quite well on their own. John Williams's original score and sound effects from the film add drama and depth to the story, and the characters are brought to life by a talented cast including Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels reprising their roles as Luke Skywalker and C-3PO. Though Brock Peters's Darth Vader is a bit of a disappointment (James Earl Jones left some pretty big boots to fill), Perry King does a fine turn as Han Solo, and Ann Sachs makes a believable Princess Leia. The story itself has been greatly expanded, and listeners are treated to several new scenes, including conversations between Princess Leia and her father on Alderaan and Biggs Darklighter's confession to Luke that he had decided to join the Rebel Alliance after leaving the Imperial Space Academy. Presented in 13 episodes, this excellent radio drama is enjoyable even for those whom audiobooks usually leave cold. As series director John Madden noted during the production, "You may think you've seen the movie; wait till you hear it." (Running time: 6 hours, 6 cassettes) --C.B. Delaney

Splendid Radio Adaptation of Star Wars, Episode IV.......2005-06-10
I have fond memories of myself eagerly awaiting each installment of this fantastic radio drama adaptation of the original "Star Wars" film back when it aired originally in 1981. Brian Daley did an excellent job via his superb scripts giving us more details of the relationships between Luke Skywalker and his Tatooine friend Biggs Darklighter and between Princess Leia and her father on Alderaan. We also learn here how Princess Leia obtained the technical plans for the Death Star. Both Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels give superb performances of their screen characters, Luke Skywalker and C3PO respectively. However, the rest of the cast is just as fine with a fine - if somewhat restrained - Darth Vader voiced by Brock Peters and Ann Sachs as Princess Leia. Both the sound effects by Ben Burtt and of course the original film score by John Williams are absolutely splendid. This is a spellbinding radio drama that should appeal to diehard fans of "Star Wars".
A Brilliant Tour De Force of the Force on Radio.......2003-05-04
At first, the idea seems bizarre, even ridiculous. Star Wars, a movie best known for its vistas of alien worlds and epic battles, as a 13 part radio drama? No way would it work, right?
Well, unless you have the cold heart of a Sith, Star Wars did indeed translate well from the silver screen to radio, thank you very much. Yes, Star Wars' visual effects are a big part of the magic of the saga, but the heart and soul of George Lucas' galaxy far, far away are the characters and the storyline. And while the movie is satisfying on its own, the radio dramatization written by the late Brian Daley takes us beyond the movie....beyond the screenplay...and even beyond the novelization.
By expanding the movie's story beyond its two hour running time, the Radio Drama allows us to catch glimpses of Luke Skywalker's life BEFORE the movie. It tells us how Princess Leia acquired the Death Star plans....and what, exactly, happened to her during her interrogation aboard the Empire's battle station...(it is an interesting scene, but not for the squeamish, by the way). In short, by expanding the story to nearly seven hours, characters we loved on screen acquire depth only equaled by novelizations.
The Radio Drama makes extensive use of material written (and in some cases filmed) for A New Hope's silver screen version but cut for editorial or technical reasons. Also, Ben Burtt's sound effects, John Williams' score, and the acting of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Anthony Daniels (See Threepio) give the whole project its "true" Star Wars cachet.
If only there was more...........2002-01-02
This expands and explains so much of the underlying story. I only wish there was more! This was the only CD in the player of my truck for 4 weeks! I listened to it a bit at a time at least 5 times before even turning on the radio again! Well made and executed drama.
Superb.......2001-08-04
This Radio Dramatization is excellant. It keeps the original spirit of Star Wars (A New Hope) while telling the story in a different way. The scenes and diologue that were not in the movie give a different perspective to the story that does nothing short of enrich it.
Expanded and Excellent.......2001-05-14
This was an incredible way to pass 6.5 hours of driving. Some eps are better than others, but all are consistently high quality. The voices are very good, with both original cast members and newcomers. My only quibble is Perry King's characterization of Han Solo. He made the character even more unlikeable than he was in the movie. (True depth on Solo comes in ESB, not Star Wars) Some of the conventions of radio drama sound hokey to those raised on video, but for someone raised on radio plays, this was just terrific. And yes, Episode 8, Death Star's Transit is even more disturbing than I remembered.

good content, bad CDs.......2006-08-16
This is an excellent resource. You will need some dictionary to be able to spell the words correctly, but the lessons are very well done.
The only problem is that the CDs are pretty bad. They don't work very well in my CD players so I eventually had to copy them to my computer's hard-drive and burn new CDs from that. Now they work fine.
The pattern build-up works for me.......2006-03-09
I learned Chinese (Mandarin) this way back in college (1960s) and can still speak it pretty well. For me the repetitive pattern build-up and vocabulary drill method really works. Others may prefer canned dialogs from day one, and different "Italian in your Car" type programs (like Pimsleur) can provide that. Sometimes I get the feeling that Ana is losing patience with the narrator, and it is a nice comic relief. Suggerisco questo CD per chiunque che desidera imparare la lingua italiana.
Uses Dynamic Sentence Building Technique.......2005-12-13
It is truly wonderful to happen upon a foreign language course that truly performs above the industry standard.
What most impresses me about Language Dynamics courses is that they are so intelligently organized that even a very small fund of vocabulary easily produces an enormous amount of meaningful communication and serves as a solid base for future learning in the target language.
My expectations for this course were exceeded by the flawless design of the course,
the simple and straightforward method, and the wonderful and professional presentations.
I wish to go into a bit more depth about the method because I think that the novice learners out there may need to read this.
1. Far from being a simple 'listen and repeat' language course, Behind the Wheel courses use a dynamic 'sentence building' technique.
2. The basis of this technique is not simply random words but rather 'high frequency vocabulary' which are words which are used most frequently in any language. In this case, Italian.
3. To these frequent words and 'modal' or mood verbs such as 'I want' 'I like'
and so forth, the course proceeds to build the listeners' ability to form original yet simple sentences which later form a foundation for future communication in the language.
All of the material I reviewed in a number of Behind the Wheel courses can be immediately applied to effectively communicate in the target language.
This happens not by accident but by the intentional and intelligent design of the course by its developers.

Great Course * Your Own Sentences Fast.......2005-11-25
I have tried a number of Language Dynamics courses and Behind the Wheel Italian is just like all the others I have used. 'Sure to satisfy'.
What I love about this and their other courses is how they get you started right away into speaking the language. They start out very simply, kind of like a child learning their first language. First they do the practical basics with you and then they move on to more complicated stuff.
Very good beginning level Italian course. Recommended buy.
Worth Every Penny and More.......2005-11-23
Look no further if you want a one stop fast and easy way to learn Italian. I even sent the company this testimonial to use as they wish because I feel that strongly about how well designed the course is and how well the method has worked for me.
What I like:
1. The pace. Not too fast. Not too slow.
2. The material. Very useful everyday stuff. The basics.
3. The native speaker's voice. Ana's voice is super clear and she talks slowly so I can get the accent right.
4. The American instructor. Sometimes humerous, sometimes serious, always informative and never humble (but he seems like a nice guy).
5. The method. This is the best part. Nobody I have tried (including private instruction at Berlitz) beats this technique for getting you to speak basic Italian from the get-go.
6. The price.. Worth much more because it works.
What I don't like:
1. No wriitten material.. I realize that this is a car course but I would have liked a tapescript or something. No biggie but ......
All in all, a great course and an even better method than you'll find anywhere (at least that has been my experience).

Hurray! Bravo! Adesso parlo l'italiano........2001-08-30
I am a basket case when it comes to learning foreign languages. What is more, I am a klutz when it comes to looking up meanings.
When I bought Audio Fluency Italian I was immediately impressed with the fact that everything I needed was already on the tapes.
Please note that this is the only foreign language course I have ever tried that has been this complete. I was speaking simple sentences in Italian within the first hour of using this course
(Miracle). Actually there is no miracle. The English speaking instructor was fabulous and Anna the Italian speaker was very clear and helpful. Language Dynamics just came up with the easiest method, ecco tutto.
Best Beginning Italian Course on the Market.......2001-03-25
I agree with other language aficionados that it is nearly impossible to find a good solid foreign language course these days. What I mean by good is 'useful, fast, and easy to learn'. Audio Fluency Italian is by far the best basic Italian course I have yet to experience. It is enjoyable to learn from, and the basic sentences that you learn to form are useful anywhere you go. I especially enjoyed the review since it is impossible to learn a language without lots of repetition. The manual was good too. Lots of exercises, travel phrases (including restaurant which were also on the tapes) etc ...
Frustrated.......2001-03-24
Although I enjoyed listening to the Italian speaker and her dialogues with Mark, this course resulted in an inefficient use of my limited preparation time before heading for Italy. I agree with other reviewers that the rehashing on tapes 5 & 6 was a disappointment. But more frustrating was the fact that the "text" to which Mark repeatedly referred was a pamphlet that did not correspond,in terms of either page Nos.or tape Nos., to the audio materials. This meant I had to search for the tapes and pages that actually did correspond to material being presented on each tape. Most frustrating of all, when verb conjugation was presented, Mark referred several times to lists of verbs "in the back of the text" that listed tenses of various verbs. No such list was to be found anywhere in the text. I had to purchase another book to supplement Mark's pamphlet, and much time was wasted because the materials in this program were put together carelessly. I learned a lot of basics from the tapes, but the process was so frustrating that I wouldn't buy them again.

Do Buy This Product.......2006-03-13
I say ''rubbish'' to the critcs of this fine course.
Beats all others in terms of speed and simplicity.
Do not buy this product.......2006-02-25
I bought it as I needed a cassette format and the choices were limited. The recording is of poor quality, there is little information on how to structure the sentances. Basically, the instruction is just repeat the phrase. I do not recommend this product.
Great Course.......2004-05-07
Complete Spanish for Dimwits really got fast results for me.
I found the course to be very 'user friendly' and approachable. The structure of the course and the friendly low key learning approach eliminated any foreign language learning paranoia that may have existed from other courses I have tried in the past.
Overall: A good, fresh and modern approach to the teaching and learning Spanish. No guessing. All the answers are on the tapes and in the booklet.

Come for the Doctor, stay for the writing!.......2005-09-29
These are some of the most innovative Who writings in years. You may not like each one, but you will walk away saying atleast someone in Whodom is trying new things.
The first story is a fifth doctor story about the origins of the Cybermen. The Doctor is a minor charecter and the main focus is a normal family on the cybermen home world as it is falling apart. Wonderful writing, and very sad.
The second story features the sixth Doctor in a typical Who story originally written for Tom Baker. It is the first meeting of the Sixth Doctor and the Brigadier. Quick, witty writing makes this a fun page turner that I was sorry to see end.
The third story is the 7th doctor and Ace called "The Rapture" and is the most bizarre Who story I have ever read. The Doctor and religion is something authors tend to avoid, and I find that sad. I would love to see more stories like this one.
The fourth story is with the 8th doctor and charley. It takes place in just three rooms and is another well written masterpiece.
All the stories were fun and fast reading. I really like the author's candid comments before each story. They enhance the enjoyment of the story and make me want to read the rest of the series. If Who is getting a little old for you, read these scripts and be reminded of the endless possibilities Who offers.

Customer Reviews:
Two thumbs up!.......2002-02-12
I couldn't be happier with this basic introduction to Spanish. A great commuter language course.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SPEED SPANISH!.......2001-04-21
After listening minimally to the four tapes in 123 Speed Spanish for five days it is my strong opinion that all taped language courses should be like this one. It is easy to learn from and all the English definitions are given on the tapes. The native speaker speaks slowly enough for me to get the accent right. The content is exteremely useful, which allowed me to form simple sentences within minutes of receiving my course. Believe me, this course is fast and user friendly. Try it and see for yourself.
TAPES AND GUIDE ARE FASTER THAN A SPEEDING BULLET!.......2000-10-28
I've had Language Dynamics' Speed Spanish for just over two weeks now and here's what I can now do. I am able for the first time to speak and understand so much practical Spanish that I find it necessary to explain my experience to you in detail. Understand that I am not a linguist. I have gone to college and I consider myself reasonably intelligent but until now, learning a language has always been a scary and not too fruitful experience for me. Speed Spanish has changed all of that for me, thank God. I bought Speed Spanish AFTER trying and returning Barron's Mastering Spanish, National Textbook's Teach Yourself Spanish, Living Language Spanish, and Great American Audio/Fast Track Spanish. None of these had the exceptional METHOD that I experienced with Language Dynamics Speed Spanish. The Speed Spanish tapes and Listening Guide & Tapescript were versatile, relevant, had a very appealing and useful content, appropriate course speed, and was very relevant to my learning needs (which was to speak Spanish as quickly as possible). Several of the other courses I listed were either horribly fast paced, used esoteric Castilian instead of the more common Latin American Spanish used in Speed Spanish, and were all just a rehash of the old 'mope and grope' stale language learning techniques your old high school teacher used to use. I found these courss to be sterile and difficult to impossible to learn from. I found Speed Spanish to be excellent and unique in the following ways. It was easy to go away from the tapes after each session speaking and understanding a great deal more Spanish than before the session. The structure and method used in the course were so simple that the learning speed dramatically increased for me. Sentence building, practical vocabulary, and even grammar were taught as natural part of the lessons so I hardly noticed as I learned it. Most importantly, I am really enjoying learning from this course. The interview teaching style found on these tapes is quite pleasant, low key, and very effective! It is therefore my recommendation to you that you try Speed Spanish if you are interested in a one stop, multi-purpose, versatile, relevant, easy, very fast, and extremely 'user friendly Spanish course. If you are a linguist, enjoy guessing, want to learn only Castilian Spanish and aren't interested in IMMEDIATE RESULTS then you might try another course and still be satisfied. It is my humble opinion that there is no Spanish course on the market that can even approach the results Speed Spanish has gotten for me in just 2 weeks.
No speedier than the average bear.......2000-10-14
...
However, my ambivalence towards these tapes goes deeper. I
expected something called "Speed Spanish" to be direct and
fast paced, but the first 30 minutes of this tape wander almost
aimlessly through the alphabet, days of the week, months, and tedious
side explanations. The teacher rambles on in English at times, fills
up too much space with admonitions to "stop the tape and practice
if we need to" ... and repeatedly counts up the number of
sentences we can make by putting different nouns and verbs
together. (Yes, we rather expected that...)
The second tape has an
odd section into which a long repetion of the alphabet is spliced for
no apparent reason (except, perhaps, manufacturing error). It later
launches into a review of the text (though the teacher says he expects
most people to be listening in the car) in which the English speaker
reads a WHOLE conversation, followed by the translated conversation in
Spanish, rather than going back and forth bit by bit.
Other pieces
of strangeness include sections where the English teacher says a word
twice, then the Spanish speaker says a word twice. Why would we need
to hear the English word twice?
Finally, the tapes are manufactured
so that the content runs out on the first side of each casette before
the tape ends, meaning the tapes do not autoreverse properly. You have
to either reverse the tape manually or fumble for the start of the
second side with fast forward buttons.
This is the second Spanish
tape I've tried (the other was from the library), and I'd say it is
about equal to the first....
A TODA MADRE........2000-01-21
